NU Quagsire

[OVERVIEW]

Quagsire's niche in NU comes from its ability, Unaware. Quagsire's solid defensive typing, reliable recovery, and good physical bulk allow it to completely wall big threats to defensive teams such as Toxicroak, Drapion, and Rhydon, as well as certain threats that don't boost, such as Emboar and Sneasel. While Quagsire faces competition from Pyukumuku as an Unaware user, Quagsire is much less passive than Pyukumuku, as it's able to do reasonable amounts of damage with Earthquake and Scald, therefore making it nowhere near as susceptible to Taunt as Pyukumuku. Quagsire's Rock resistance and Electric immunity also come in handy at times. The combination of Toxic and Recover allows Quagsire to stall out a good number of physical attackers in the tier, such as Sneasel and Tauros. However, Quagsire's massive Grass weakness is horrible in a metagame dominated by Grass-types such as Rotom-C, Whimsicott, Sceptile, and Virizion, which are all extremely common and easily force it out. Said Grass weakness means Quagsire is unable to wall threats such as Barbaracle, Grass Knot Emboar, and Delphox, as they commonly carry Grass-type coverage to break past Quagsire, which is part of what makes it unreliable as a Fire-type check. Its mediocre Special Defense stat also leaves it very vulnerable to powerful special attackers such as Sigilyph and Lilligant.

Moves

Scald is mainly used to burn physical attackers, but it does hit Pokemon such as Rhydon for very high amounts of damage. Earthquake is used to combat the Poison-types that Quagsire walls such as Toxicroak and Drapion, which do very little damage with Drain Punch and Knock Off. Toxic allows Quagsire to stall out physical attackers and also threatens Pokemon such as Slowbro. Recover allows Quagsire to consistently wall threats throughout a match.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense investment along with a Relaxed nature allows Quagsire to best check the physical attackers it walls. A Relaxed nature is used because Quagsire cares much more about its damage output than its paltry Speed stat. Leftovers is the item of choice for passive recovery and makes Quagsire not too reliant on Recover. Unaware is what gives Quagsire its niche, allowing it to completely wall threats such as Drapion and Toxicroak.

Usage Tips
========

Quagsire should be switched directly in on Pokemon such as Rhydon, Drapion, and Toxicroak and start spreading Toxic poison or just attacking with Scald and Earthquake. Besides this, Quagsire absolutely has to be kept as healthy as possible at all times. It needs to be at the highest health possible throughout the match so it can deal with setup sweepers without issues because if even 10 or 20% of its health is gone, it can't avoid the 2HKO from an attack such as Rhydon's Earthquake, which would be detrimental to the kinds of teams Quagsire is found on. In the case that Quagsire is healthy or doesn't need to wall any setup sweepers, spreading Toxic poison is often the best thing to do to weaken the opposing team over time as opposed to fishing for Scald burns. It also punishes Pokemon such as Rotom-C and Whimsicott on the switch that may try and gain a free turn off of Quagsire. Finally, try not to let Quagsire get poisoned by Toxic, as this puts Quagsire on a timer and makes it impossible to wall the physical attackers it does.

Team Options
========

Vileplume is a good teammate for Quagsire, as it's able to check Grass-types such as Whimsicott, while Quagsire checks Fire- and Poison-types in return, such as Toxicroak and Emboar. Vileplume can also absorb Toxic Spikes, which otherwise makes Quagsire unable to wall setup sweepers. Aromatisse and Vaporeon are able to cure any status conditions Quagsire might acquire, such as Toxic, which makes Quagsire unable to wall Rhydon and Toxicroak, with Heal Bell, while being able to pass Wishes to it to limit the amount of times Quagsire has to use Recover. Entry hazard removal is necessary; if Quagsire is badly poisoned, it has a really hard time dealing with Rhydon in particular. Golbat and Hitmonlee fit this role well, with Hitmonlee being the more offensive hazard removal solution. Specially defensive Dragon-types such as Druddigon and Drampa are also good partners because they provide secondary Fire resistances and check Grass-types like Sceptile and Rotom-C.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A specially defensive spread is usable to combat Houndoom, but it's vulnerable to being flinched and cannot reliably counter Rhydon and Toxicroak, so it is generally outclassed by a physically defensive spread.. Curse is an option over Toxic to become a very physically bulky wincon, but it's rather easily stopped by Grass-types and special attackers and therefore not always reliable. It also faces competition from Gastrodon, which sports better overall bulk and a Water immunity. Rocky Helmet can be a good option on teams that offer Wish support to ease the amount of times that Quagsire has to use Recover, but it should only be used if you have Wish support from the likes of Aromatisse or Vaporeon. Water Absorb is an option, but it's entirely outclassed by Seismitoad and Gastrodon, as Seismitoad can set up Stealth Rock, and Gastrodon has much better overall bulk and offensive presence.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Virizion, Whimsicott, Sceptile, and Rotom-C are capable of easily OHKOing Quagsire with their STAB moves and take very little from Scald and Earthquake, only really fearing Toxic. Swords Dance Sceptile can actually freely set up Substitute on Quagsire and start setting up Swords Dances, while Quagsire can't do anything back. Rotom-C in particular can use Volt Switch on Quagsire, since it threatens Quagsire out with Leaf Storm.

**Status**: Status effects such as Toxic poison slowly wear Quagsire down to the point where it can't heal off the damage that it takes, which prevents Quagsire from Toxic stalling physical attackers such as Sneasel and Emboar.

**Special Attackers**: Special attackers such as Houndoom, Delphox, and Sigilyph are big threats to Quagsire. Houndoom is OHKOed by Earthquake, but Dark Pulse does a large amount of damage and has a decent chance to cause flinch. Sigilyph OHKOes Quagsire with Energy Ball and is only threatened by very little, as Magic Guard prevents Toxic damage, and Scald does little damage back. Quagsire can't wall Calm Mind Delphox as well, since Grass Knot is an easy OHKO even without Life Orb.

I think you need to emphasise in the Overview the reasons for using this over Pyukumuku. This is mostly the fact that Quagsire can actually attack, being able to fish for Scald burns or hit things somewhat hard with Earthquake. The Rock-resist and Electric-immunity are also situationally useful. Also emphasise that Bloom Doom from Fire-types makes Quagsire a very sketchy solo-check for Fire-types.

In usage tips emphasise that Quagsire needs to be kept healthy so that it can come in on setup sweepers without issues. Dealing with setup sweepers is way more important than spreading Toxic; you need to shift the focus of this paragraph a little bit.

Rocky Helmet should be mentioned in OO somewhere, it's very good on certain types of teams (such as those with Wish passers that can take some of the strain off of Quagsire's Recover). You could also mention Water Absorb and how this makes Quagsire mostly outclassed by Seismitoad and Gastrodon just to dissuade people friom running it.

Otherwise this is mostly good but I would add more specific examples of threats Quagsire checks (what specifically can you lure in and punish with Toxic?).

Tag me when you're done and I'll give this 2/3.

if you wanted to, you could make a mention of using specially defensive dragons like drampa and guzzlord to handle the fire-types that quagsire can't check while also providing useful grass resistances
