Battle Spot - Simple Questions and Answers

Wouldnt its' only niche be as part of a Discharge strat?
Nah, it actually has a few useful niches.
The main problem is that using Mega Sceptile means that you can't use Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Salamence or Mega Charizard Y. All of those have insane damage potential compared to Mega Sceptile (without multiple Lightning Rod boosts which you can't count on).
It is also too fragile to do its jobs consistently and misses some important OHKOs with neutral SAtk iirc.
Talonflame.

Mega Sceptile is a decent genie check though. It outspeeds Adamant Scarf Lando-T and could potentially HP Ice it before Lando-T attacks. It also keeps its partners safe from Thundurus' Prankster Thunder Wave.
Mega Salamence is another big threat that does not like facing Mega Sceptile if it has no Dragon Dance boost.
Quick Guard is a niche with limited distribution.
Sceptile is also unaffected by Rage Powder which can be huge. Azumarill + Amoonguss cores wouldn't like it for example.

I don't think that using Mega Sceptile is worth it btw, but there are things that it can provide for a team.

I managed to breed a shiny ralts with a modest nature and 5 perfect IVs(everything but defense but it's gonna die to almost anything physical anyways...)

I can never settle on an full team to use though. Here are some of my rambling thoughts on the matter.

Bases I want to cover in terms of checking/countering include but are not limited to

Fire Types(Heatran, Talonflame and Mega Charizard Y mainly)
Steel Types(Mostly Scizor and Mega Mawhile)
Trick room.

Those are the three chief ones as all of those are a problem for Megavior.

I was thinking Heatran or Arcanine for one thing. . Heatran walls Talonflame, Non-superpower Scizor and Mega Mawhile HARD and can usually stop Mega Zard as well though you might run into some with focus blast or earthquake that could be trouble. He hits hard specially and discourages heat wave spams with flash fire. Access to taunt and stone edge is good as well.

Arcanine has intimidate and has more support tools like Snarl and helping hand. He has less resistances but morning sun is a option to keep him healthy, he doesn't need to fear Mach punch and can survive earthquakes much more often. Bisharp gives him fits though and he hits with less oomph than Heatran.

Trick room is one of my favorite tactics but being on the other end is always annoying. I always agonize over what to use to counter it. Slapping Amoongus on my team? Sky drop Aerodactyl? Taunt Tornadus? Having a "slow mode?" The variety of setters(aromatisse, chandelure, Slowbro, cofagrigus etc.) and the existence of mental herb, safety goggles and move redirection make it difficult to reliably prevent it from coming out.

Aerodactly also can provide speed control with tailwind, Sky drop is great for removing a threat for a turn and he can wreck Mega Zard-Y but he dies in the blink of an eye and has mediocre offenses. Talonflame is also interesting as a supporter. Tailwind, quick guard and will-o-wisp are all useful and brave bird is always there to spam. With overheat he can be a sort of secondary steel type check too. But intimidate, low bulk, recoil, rock slide being everywhere and vulnerability to bulky water types make him risky. Common threats like Rotom-W and Heatran also effortlessly wall him.

TL:DR I want some general Megavoir team advice and mom recommendations for a mega Gardevior teams.

Perhaps even running a second mega in one of the two extra slots could be a viable tactic...

I don't mean to sound like an ass or anything, but this is something you'd want to post here instead of a new thread. If you want some ideas for a core built around Gardevoir (which is a very viable, and well-used mon in Doubles) you can look at our array of sample teams; I typically arrange them by their central Mega. Sample teams

Anything beyond that feel free to PM me, I have more than a few resources for Gardevoir.

A example of what the (unfinished) team might look like. Not doing EVS yet. Too soon to decide how to spec the EVs.

Gardevior
Trace/Pixilate
Modest.
Hyper Voice
Psyshock
Hyper Beam/Will-O-Wisp/Focus blast/etc.
Protect

Hyper voice, Psyshock and Protect are the standard moves. The last option is personal preference and will be based also on what the rest of my team is. Hyper beam is just a panic button/battle finisher when absurd overwhelming power is needed. Will-O-Wisp could be used to catch sucker punchers like Mawhile and bisharp off guard wasting their turn and crippling them to boot. Even if I guess wrong I still outsped and burn...though I might still die anyways...Focus blast wrecks Heatran and his steel type brethren not named Mawhile or Scizor.

Arcanine
Nature: Bold?
Ability: Intimidate
@S
Overheat/Flamethrower
Will-O-Wisp
Helping Hand/Snarl
Morning Sun/Protect

Mainly a supporter and steel check. Still vulnerable to Heatran however. A more offensive variant with close combat has a decent chance at the OHKO but must sacrifice most it's bulk to do so. Regardless intimidate, balanced but above average stats and a wide movepool make Arcanine worth considering.

Mamoswine? @ Life orb
Nature: Adamant
Ability:Thick Fat

Earthquake
Ice Shard
Icicle Crash/Stone Edge
Protect

I realized that scarfed Landorous-T takes a dump all over my team thus far and one of the top 5 most used mon's online I really should have a strong check/counter for this beast. I think I am gonna cry everytime I see a bulky water though as Arcanine also hates those.

TL:DR I want some general Megavoir team advice and mon recommendations for a mega Gardevior teams. I want to avoid making a ultra cliched team if possible. I don't need to be mr original and run a team mostly of my garbage favorites but I also don't want to look like a CHALK team. Avoiding legendaries mostly would be nice too because it's a huge pain to get one with the right ability, IVS and nature. Either spend a ton of hours grinding or pray someone online decides to offer a fair trade/hack one for you. Regardless recommend what you feel is right. I am even open to the idea of a second mega.

Thanks for reading my garbage guys and thanks in advance for the advice.
Gardevoir is a great doubles mon, and she's actually not as frail as you suggest. Even without using a Bold nature she can be evd to always/usually take the standerd 44 Atk Mence's DE(at least I think it's standard, it's in the strat dex.) So a perfect Def IV would be good...were you breeding for the 31 in atk? Cuz that's no benefit and even a small detriment with SwagPlay antics. I like yer idea on WoW, had a similar thot on Char Y for Sucker Punchers. Just to be clear tho I don't think Hyper Beam werks good with Garde. Sure it's strong, but Sylveon can have a boosting item so it's even strongr. If you're onn have to take a recharge turn the move oughta be nuclear, and you also can't have bettr options. Otherwise Zard Y would run Blast Burn.

Arcanine I really like the set in the strat dex-the bulky one that is. Moves you got right, tho the fire STAB cood also be Fire Blast. Still don't need SpA to ohko Bisharp, and you also don't lower SpA. 85 acc isn't very fun but hardly werse than Overheat's 90.

252 HP/ rest in Def/ 36 SpA(with Flamethrower)/ 12 SpD/ 60 Spe. Helmet, Lefties, and Sitrus are all good, idk what's best.

Mamo u hardly see in dubz, but it's usually scarf. idk why you have Stone Edge slashed with yer main Ice STAB, Mamo really needs Icicle Spear or Crash. I think I agree Crash fer Scarf since it can frequently utilize the flinch chance. Rock Slide is generally better than Stone Edge in dubz to hit both with a good chance to flinch them. You can run Jolly on Scarf Mamo to outspeed Adamant Scarf Landog and a bunch of others.

Other mons i'm not so good at suggesting, prefer to dissect what's there. Right now you have nothing that really beats Cresselia, mostly she can set CM on you or just do w/e. You don't look very strong agenst rain eithr.

I just wasn't willing to spend another 50 hours breeding another shiny because I had one imperfect stat and one useless/slightly detrimental stat. I really should raise my ralts level and put the def stat through an IV calculator...I will cry if it's low. EDIT: It's somewhere from 15-19...

Perhaps assault vest ludicolo for a rain counter? Has the nice bonus of adding a fake out user to my team. Or maybe Goodra? Ice beam is a threat(though good luck getting better than a 3HKO)but his offensive movepool is wider and sap sipper provides an oh so useful immunity to venasaur, breeloom and amoongus sleep spam(which ludicolo has as well but still)If only there was a physical version of assault vest...

As for cresselia...I have a rather out there idea of using Scolipede. He outspeeds a large chunk of the metagame. He 2HKO's cresselia(if banded it can be a semi reliable 1HKO) and 1HKO's Zard with rock slide(with life orb at least). Protect for scouting/speed boost. The last slot has several options. Earthquake which really needs no explaining. Poison jab for dual stab and destroying fairy types. Venom drench for crippling what he can't hurt. Perhaps this is a dumb idea though. The suprise factor, speed and actually pretty solid movepool make him at least a decent idea on paper.

And lastly if I am using scarf you think it's safe to replace ice shard with rock slide?

If you like Shiny go fer it. i've hatched a random shiny Rats, was Lonely so ofc not viable. Just wanted it fer Synchonize not abttl lol. Point is I think shiny Ralts is kinda a neat color but not a fan of Shiny Garde myself.

There is no way Scoli Ohkos Cress, not even gonna calc. Sure it'll do a good bit, but not OHKOing any good Cress without a boost besides CB or prior damage. Venom Drench is just if they'r poisond as i recall, so definitely not. Still Scoli might be ok, I've used it in Singles fer BP and that wasnn't too bad. Also kinda funny, that Scoli is Shiny. Mostly perfect IVs, but not 0 Atk even tho it isn't attacking. Shiny Scoli is pretty

edit: shoodn't double post but i gess this is ok. I was thinking to use Memento Whimsicott, also with Encore, Stun Spore, and Moonblast. Offensive Evs and a Pixie Plate, hits serprisingly hard and Memento means survivability is less important.

After that was thinking Casino Gar, but decided Perish Trap since Gothitelle werks awesome with Memento. So far this team has more than a little Talon weakness i think, and electrics are bad too.

Fer that one idea i had was Lanturn, weird mon and cant say told me before it isn't viabl, but i'm wondring. 36 HP/ max Def always lives unboosted Jolly Chomp's EQ, and really any one thing from Kang. I think 172 Spe to creep those that go fer a stat of 108 to creep Rotoms and 85s, but not sure on set. Volt Switch, Scald, and Ice Beam are all extremely valuable to it, but i think it ought to have t-wave. But was also thinking RestoChest, para Kang then Rest in its face. It eats tons of recoil and gets parad, and then i can switch and hopefully wait out Rest terns anothr time. I just dk what move to not use tho. Was thinking Scald actually, since ice is too important covrage and VS is like the best move evr. Any input on Lanturn's viability and what sets are reasonabl on it would b appreciated.

It doesn't solve your grass type problems, but lapras is also a solid counter to most rain teams. Water Absorb means it doesn't give a shit about rain-boosted hydro pumps or scalds, and freeze dry is x4 effective on ludicolo and kingdra.

Talonflame will pretty much single-handedly solve any problems with grass types you're having.

Hey Team,

I'm new to the whole competitive world of pokemon always meant to get into it but didn't till worlds re-inspired me.

I have a few questions after testing my new team on pokeshowdown(battle spot singles) before I finish it on cart to play rated there.

1. Is there a Pokeshowdown to Battlespot rating equivalent? is 1500 on one same as 1500 on the other(although you start at 1500 on battlespot?)

2. Is the meta much different? I run into teams of all sorts on showdown I'm not sure if people would bother breeding some of the more obscure things like nosepass on cart but there are always some I suppose.

3. The battlespot damage calculator on this subforum from, I am not sure how to add modifiers, say my weakness policy boost + dragon dance dragonite I don't see where to simulate this/same with multiscale does it take that into account?(I'm thinking yes)?

4. How many games would you play-test with a team to flesh it out, is it easy as "I don't bring this poke much, it's under performing or a wasted slot, or "I never use this move, i should change it"

There are probably a thousand more questions I have but this should do for now, thanks for anyone who takes a look, I did try find answers first but didn't see anything obvious.

I plan to make a post in the team building and discussion help thread once I've played it a bit more to either work stuff out myself or know what I'm struggling with.

Also love all the work people have put into a lot of resources, really helped me who has never played competitive pokemon, go from nothing to having a semi-competitive team and even winning some games in a lot less time than I thought. Very fun.

1. Showdown, I guess just add 500 and you have a BS ranking? Not sure, two totally different things imo. 1600 on BS isn't that high, iirc it's really good on PS. I don't play sims very much lol.

2. Things like HP Fire Latios are much harder to come by on Cart, and stall/shitmons like Moody Smeargle/Glalie are more rare on cart thanks to timer stalling.

3. If you look next to the stats, there's a dropdown set to "--" as a default; you'd change the stat modifiers. Weakness Policy + Dragon Dance is +3 Atk, +2 Sp. Atk, +1 Speed.
Multiscale is set as your ability, and will be automatically applied in damage calcs assuming you're at 100% HP.

4. No set standard, I usually aim for about 10-15 battles as a "is this worth a slot / need tweaks?". Except Regirock, I only needed about 4 matches and 2 hours of math to know that it was fucking absurdly good.

1. Adding 500 is too simple, 1500 is easier on showdown than 2000 is for cart. Maybe useful info is that 1720 (around) is top on showdown and 2100 (around) is best for cart.

2. I would say the meta is pretty different because a lot of different people play on cart: a lot more japanese people and a lot more "hardcore" players because showdown isnt official and people try it more for testing just like you and are not totally used to battling and their team as teams on cart.

4. I don't think there is a special amount that is best. I would recommend to go as soon as possible to cart because its the 'real' meta and people play a bit different on it. You can also tweak movesets and even mons on cart.

I also welcome you on the battlespot forum and hope you will have fun and learn a lot! :)

hmm, touche.
No one hits 2100 though; even the #1 global players (aka, the Japanese monopoly that holds 90% of the top 100) hit 1980-2010 range at absolute peak.
By comparision, I am a damn good doubles player; one of the best on site and North America, and I'm at 1728 right now. I believe Demantoid is floating around 1800 right now and he's solidly in the Top 10 for the US. PGL rankings that is, I don't touch Showdown lol.
Ah, but the glorious shit I used to hit that ranking. One of my mons is a physical attacker with only 3 31's, and no it isn't a TR mon. See kids, Karen was right all along, you CAN win with trashy SRs that would be rejected in a heartbeat by most people's standards. \o/

Also, I'm curious: This season ends in about 10 days, but according to PGL we can continue playing until the site/servers are shut down to make way for S&M. Will this final season (the unofficial S18) have a Special ladder or update scores at all? I would LOVE to run a season with basically no record just to battle with random shit and see what sticks in the final, dying breath, while still being "ranked" for the purpse of having BS Singles, BSD, etc. instead of the shitfest called Free Battle.

They're both clearly talking about Singles, which the top players consistently get 2200+ (the highest was in season 8 at 2309). This is because the playerbase for BSS is much bigger than BSD. I think freekhoorn is pretty on the money with his comparison to the cart and sim ladder

For Singles, does Coba Berry Conkeldurr sound like a good lure? It could forego Knock Off for a rock move to kill Talon. Ofc...it could do that anyways and surprise a switch in. Coba Conk takes DE from Mence if it hasn't been weakened by more than just SR, and hits back hard with Ice Punch.

My logic is that special attackers will expect the standard AV and switch out unless they have a good match up anyways. So Thund won't stay in and T-bolt and get a 2hko if it's invested. That might not be very good though. How would Sitrus be? Could then live Adamant Fake Out followed by DE from Kang...tho Secret Power is more common.

Anyways, what's a good ev spread for Conk? Higher base HP than defenses makes it really hard to find a good spread. I think I've seen 156 HP/ 100 Def before, is that the standard? I liked that for the odd benefit of almost always avoiding a 2hko from 0 SpA Thund without AV or Sitrus. I mean it's 7.4% to 2hko, but 8 less j8ust takes that up to 11, and 8 more just brings it down to 6.3, so I figure that's not really worth it.

Rocky Helmet Conk is a pretty cool set. I think they normally run max HP/Def. It can't live anything from Salamence but it can live any non-CB Talon, and has favorable odds of living CB BB at full if you really wanted to. Also really good vs Kang and various other physical attackers like Chomp & Mamo.

But I take it no Coba or Sitrus :( Oh well. Yea, I did consider helmet, seems cool. Definitely max Def tho, nnot an Adamant nature?

My idea for a team is Memento Whimsicot and regular Cloyster, King's Rock tho I was considering Lum. I have Naive ones on cart, but I guess it should be Jolly, not very good to give up Ice Shard for Hydro...though sometimes that can be really good. Like Mawile is really bad otherwise. Conk I figured is nice, stops Klefki very well, and can be useful against Kang.

Ha. Before S/M takes over the Rating Battles, I wanted to ask one more time about what to stick on the semi-famous Jap Hippo-Luca-Drag core.

I can't seem to find something that works, but I do believe a special wall (to compliment my physical wall Hippo) and another Mega added to balance out if Luc won't work. Prolly wanna also throw in a WoW Smogbird because fuck Blaziken among other things.

It's a immense core that I used extensively. I even did an RMT around it. I found it very tough to find a second Mega that complimented it but Luc is that awesome. Something to spread status is good. Azumarill and Mamoswine are big threats thanks to their STAB plus the omnipresent Greninja. Finding something to tackle those would be imperative.

just wondering if anyone has a spare
Azumarill
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 228 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Def / 12 SpD / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Waterfall

While I dont have an extra, just a piece of advice for BD Azumarill, waterfall isnt necessary on the set since +6 Aqua Jet KOs almost everything as is, best replace it with Knock off. I can provide one of those, as long as you dont mind it being cloned from my original "copy"

No the place to ask, but I can assure you many people will have one of these. Azu is great an this is the most common set, bar WF which isn't really use with BD. Depending on the team it can be a good choice, but AJ is at worst 2hkoing anything WF would ohko, and most of those things would die to +6 PR or coverage. Azu is also too slow to commonly utilize the already low flinch chance.

If somehow no one gets to you and I remembr, can trade you Fri. Uncharacteristically busy till then.

Thundurus=Mostly max def but with enough speed to creep jolly breloom. More EVs are taken out of HP because you want more def when taking on physical stuff.

Gengar=Enough speed to creep greninja. Bulk is enough to live mega blaziken flare blitz most of the time, CB talon BB, and garchomp outrage pre-mega.

Suicune=Enough Def to live Adamant Fake Out+Double Edge from Mega Kang. Enough Speed to outspeed 0 Spe Gliscor(if thats a thing), and also creeps tyranitar+other things creeping tyranitar by a few points. Rest was _probably_ just dumped in Spa to make the most out of your CMs.

Kangaskhan=Enough speed for Adamant(Not jolly) Breloom. Lives Low Kick from Greninja and Specs Draco from Latios, lots of other stuff too but i don't wanna calc forever, there may be other more specific things he was looking for too. But on the special side those are exactly enough for Lati draco. (he may have even dumped the rest into def while just putting 236 in atk too, idk. cause putting 236 in atk is pretty popular cause its more effective to use the 16 EVs in other stats i think & you dont lose out on anything notable with the atk loss)

Bold + 30 Def IV + 240 Def EVs is actually a stat point bump from 130 to 132. You get an extra Defense point at that benchmark.
236 HP EVs preserve the even HP stat so the uncommon Super Fang would activate the Sitrus Berry from full.
