Resource Battle Spot Singles Sample Teams

Banner graciously provided by kind user blazenix
Approved by cant say, previously hosted by dogknees

Welcome! The purpose of this thread is to archive SM Battle Spot Singles teams that have had significant battling success, which intend to help beginner and intermediate players get assimilated to the metagame. As teambuilding in Battle Spot Singles is no easy feat and often quite daunting to users, having a trustworthy foundation to work from can be very beneficial.

Guidelines
All users are welcome to submit a sample team if they believe it has potential, but must include the following;
  • An importable version of the team
  • A brief explanation of each Pokemon's role in the team and an overview of how the team works
It is also suggested for users to include proof of tournament, showdown ladder, or cartridge ladder success.

Bumping so that my teams from BSS Invitational don't go to waste and to actually provide some USUM teams without having to wait for S1 blogs to go up. Note that these are still fairly early meta teams and not without flaws so I'm not really posting these for them to be added to the OP, but the severe lack of teams being posted in this thread should be addressed. Also just want to share a bit of USUM teambuilding since there's not much of that around at this stage in the meta.

This is just another variant of the common Blaziken setups lately, taking advantage of the combined presence of Blaziken and Naganadel to put heavy pressure on teams. Mimikyu and Landorus-T provide a safe backbone that these teams often run, with an exceptionally bulky AV Landorus-T being mostly my preference for this setup to better handle opposing Naganadel. Celesteela is generally a safer pick for the Steel-type slot to check Tapu Lele better but I like Mega Metagross a lot in the current meta for its far reaching coverage and offensive presence. Porygon2 opens itself nicely in the last slot as a result in order to patch up some of the team's poorer matchups and notably helps in the Gyarados matchup while also making Mimikyu more reasonable to check. Overall a fairly safe team with many offensive options and showcasing some of the more prominent mons in the current meta.

Stakataka is a Pokemon that naturally lends itself well to Trick Room, though this team adopts it without relying greatly on being a Trick Room team. The Stakataka set is your usual standard offensive set, with Groundium Z chosen in order to OHKO Aegislash in Shield forme under Trick Room. The item choice is heavily preference based though, Shuca/Chople Berry, Air Balloon or Life Orb would achieve similar results. Cresselia has excellent synergy with Stakataka while providing another source of Trick Room, giving Stakataka a bit more flexibility. Mimikyu provides a safety net as it usually does, which is particularly helpful for making Blaziken think twice about using High Jump Kick against Stakataka. Tapu Bulu improves the otherwise awful Gyarados matchup and offers strong synergy with Stakataka, though AV is worth consideration over Band if that's preferred. Mega Gyarados and Naganadel provide a fast mode for the team while rounding out the team's offensive pressure and Speed problems. Sash Naganadel is primarily chosen to help against setup sweepers and opposing Naganadel, since this team struggles heavily against setup sweepers if they get an opportunity.

This is the team I used for alot of S10 and S11 and I think it's pretty solid. During S10 I wasn't doing so well so I looked at some Japanese teams to see what teams did well. I noticed alot of teams with Metagross+Fini+Rotom-H so I decided to try it out. It ended up pulling me out of 1600 towards the end of the season and I was able to get 1850 with it in S11 and win fairly consistently. I stole almost everything from the Japanese team I found, so I don't know what alot of the ev spreads do, but they seemed to work fine for me :I. Most of the sets are fairly standard, but some are pretty cool. Specs Fini is hard to switch into and it hits almost everything for neutral damage. Having double Trick on the team is cool to get through annoying fat mons like P2 or Cresselia. The Lando is Flynium+Smack Down which I found to be a really useful set. It can easily lure in things like Venusaur, Tapu Bulu or Celesteela and remove them for the rest of the team. It's speed outspeeds Jolly Mega Tyranitar, but idk the defensive calcs. The Tyranitar is also Taunt which can help with boosting past stuff, but I didn't end up bringing Tyranitar too often. Overall I think it's a pretty solid team and I may end up using it again if my S12 team ends up not working out like all my other squads.

Do this before I forget. Here's the top 10 teams from S11 translated, if I can be arsed I'll do 10-20 which is another 5 teams or so.

I've been meaning to do this before the holidays took over, but the 2018 circuit is over and I don't really feel like showcasing any of my current teams in an RMT. That being said I've got a few I've liked enough that I want to at least share here if only to provide more options to people. I have more than just these but I don't think much is gained by sharing hard counter-teams so I'm just posting some of the more reliable ones I've enjoyed. First I want to offer a slightly more updated version of my rain team in the OP, that team is still good but it was made in late SM before a much better alternative to Mega Latias was introduced.

If you've seen the initial version in the RMT this team is essentially the exact same thing, a Scizor + Koko team with a rain mode on the side. The only changes made here are Swords Dance Landorus-T instead of Knock Off and Naganadel in place of Mega Latias. Swords Dance gives Groundium Z a lot of extra breaking power, which I've found to be more useful than removing items in general. This is mostly preference based though. Naganadel on the other hand fits the team far better than Mega Latias ever did, and in recent use I've found it helps the team hold up even better than it did in SM. This is a very aggressive team which makes Naganadel a much better fit, and unlike Latias it does a good job of pressuring Tapu Fini which is otherwise a big pain for the rain mode. The EV spread given is not massively important anymore but it's meant to live Torrent boosted Hydro Vortex from Greninja, and I generally like having the slight boost to bulk anyway. Overall not much has changed but Naganadel is a natural improvement, so I figure it's time to reflect that in the sample teams.

Now for an actually new team. This thread has an alarming lack of Tapu Lele and the Specs set with BP Blaziken is only one of its deadly builds. This is a very bulky Tapu Lele so it actually needs 2 speed boosts before it can outspeed some of the real speed demons like Mega Gengar, but this is not an unreasonable demand either with Blaziken. The bulk is meant to live Double-Edge from Jolly Mega Salamence and Flare Blitz from Adamant Mega Blaziken, which are ultimately more important benchmarks for a nuke like this. SubToxic Zapdos is another Pokemon that does very well with BP support but it works just fine without it, Pressure + Toxic stall is very deadly against slower teams and with Ferrothorn on the side the classic Ferro/Zap/Blaze core can muscle its way through a lot. Scarf Landorus-T provides some much needed speed so that the team isn't leaning too hard on Blaziken, while also checking some nasty threats like Naganadel and neutral base 100 Fire-types at +1 like Charizard and Volcarona. Mimikyu is your standard Curse Trick Room set which seems out of place for this team, but this provides some very effective and unexpected Speed control to allow Specs Lele to punch holes against more aggressive teams where passing Speed isn't reliable. More of a backup tool than something I use often, but this team isn't exactly lacking in power so Swords Dance isn't super necessary.

Turns out this thread is also lacking in Charizard teams so this works out! This is a classic Hippowdon + Charizard Y team that I used in the invitational. For the uninitiated, this is deliberate use of clashing weather effects designed to avoid the awkward scenario of sun turns running out the same turn you bring Charizard back in. This Tapu Koko is a bit more support oriented but it's still fast enough to outspeed Greninja while also shutting down defensive foes with Taunt + Toxic. SpDef Hippo makes the Gengar matchup a lot less annoying, while otherwise checking the physical threats this team needs to. Metagross and Kartana seem redundant but the former functions as an offensive tank for the likes of Mega Salamence while the latter is a revenge killer that also checks Tapu Fini and Suicune. Psycho Cut is primarily for Blaziken, just hope it isn't at +2 or Protecting at +1 because it's aware you're a Scarf Psycho Cut Kartana. It's this or Guillotine, take your pick. Waterium Z Suicune is here to provide a more direct answer to Fire-type foes. Tapu Fini is often a more common pick for this role that would otherwise seem better for handling Blaziken, but not being Gengar-weak makes Suicune a stronger fit.

If I'm posting all the other teams I used in invitational I may as well post this one. There's two versions of this team, one with Hydreigon + Volcarona and one with Kommo-o + Charizard Y. I won't really talk about the latter one here because I wasn't a big fan of Charizard on that team, but Kommo-o and Hydreigon are about as relevant as each other so if you want to try this same team with Kommo-o instead then there's a paste of that one here. Metagross + Scarf Hydreigon is an old ORAS core that doesn't see as much use these days due to Hydreigon facing a lot more trouble, but it's still an effective core due to their fantastic defensive synergy. This team ends up struggling with Steel-types so Volcarona fits nicely here, with an added bonus of providing an effective Mimikyu check. Assault Vest Landorus-T handles Naganadel which is otherwise a big threat to this team, and it makes for a good specially bulky pivot here. Specs Tapu Koko provides more offensive pressure and is notably useful for dealing with Toxapex and Tapu Fini. Meanwhile Ferrothorn rounds things out as a hazard setter with good defensive synergy for this team.

Also want to give a quick shout-out to chemcoop for help on some of these teams, as well as greilmercenary9 and marilli for the great sets that helped showcase what these teams could do.

The team plays as an aggressive, setup-oriented team that is fairly straightforward to lead with sash Landorus-T, set rocks, and set forth on your opponents multiple setup sweepers capable of taking over the game. This LO Blaziken is really good in the meta ATM and replaces Scizor, at the cost of a more precarious Tapu Lele matchup. While the team pretends to be autopilot and (and one of its best draws for me, who clearly isn't using it optimally enough) fairly good when autopiloted, there are definitely many nuances. Many matchups do not see your best play be leading off with the obvious Landorus-T - against suropoke TR, it is usually best to lead Tapu Koko, while against standard Hippomence it is highly worth considering leading with the P2 instead. In addition, It is very important, especially against certain Pokemon that this team can be so prone to, like Mimikyu without a clear path for Gyarados sweep, Mega Blaziken, etc. to always keep your Sash Landorus-T in the back, which can catch your opponent off-guard as a non-lead.

Another quite a standard offensive setup inspired by Snowparty's lele-zard teams from several seasons back. This team sees Focus Sash Tapu Lele as a dedicated lead that denies setup and SR with taunt. Best part about Tapu Lele and Charizard is that when faced against a Tapu Lele, it either means taking an obscene amount of damage or switching directly to a Steel-type for Charizard to get its free setup. HP Ground obviously targets the only Steel-type that can withstand Charizard's attacks without forfeiting a free turn: Heatran. SD Z-Lando-T also thrives off of the setup opportunities afforded by Tapu Lele, or play the support role by chipping in with its Intimidate for a setup opportunity elsewhere, or picking off a threat with its Z-move, or busting through a physical wall wide open with its +2 Z-move. This team does have a very heavy physical lean because of the current Greninja set, which I'm 99% sure is not optimal, but the main core of Zard - Lele - Lando - Greninja is a very solid one that I encourage others to play with.

This is the only bss team I've played with that I haven't straight ripped from someone else, but it's been working for me. The straightforward gameplan is that you KO things with Kangaskhan, switch out to Cresselia before you get KO'ed, refresh up your Kangaskhan, and clean up. I was already fairly familiar with the damage calcs when it came to most of these Pokemon so I was very happy to use this familiar core in BSS. The Cresselia can be a momentum sap for reasons and it's harder to get away with such linear play in higher level of play where instead of KO'ing the Cresselia, they'll just fully take advantage of it until the cows come home. Heatran serves as a decent check to threats such as Tapu Lele, Naganadel, Volcarona, etc. that the rest of the team struggles, and Landorus-T allows me to have a decent check to threats like Blaziken and Mimikyu that beat the rest of the team. Tapu Koko and Greninja, while not necessary to the core function of the team allows me to take the offensive, picking off threats given correct prediction and letting Kangaskhan bully the opponent with the numbers advantage.

To give some of my own very brief thoughts on the team, it combines three established dual threats together to create a very scary multidimensional team. The main two axises to the team are the Porygon2-Mawile Trick Room mode as well as the Naganadel-Gyarados Fast mode which are chosen based on the matchup. Mimikyu and Breloom, an established duo in their own right are then slotted in generally as a third, breloom is there as an alternative lead to Porygon2 and Mimikyu as a stop for certain rampaging threats and sweeper in its own right if needed.

Sorry it is a bit overdue, I was stockpiling the Season 14 teams to use in BSSLT playoffs so I didn't post them straight away publicly as I usually would. Here's the top 10 teams translated, I'll get around to sorting out links and stuff for 11-20 range and translating any team I haven't translated yet in the next few days.
