The Little Cup Community Create-a-Team (Version II)
Since the release of Sun and Moon and the original CCAT almost a year ago, the Little Cup metagame has shifted and finally settled into what we have now. We know our metagame's biggest threats, and we know what archetypes work and don't work. So now it's time for the community to put all our cumulative metagame knowledge and work together to build a team! As always, this project aims to have the community work together to build a competitively viable LC team, one Pokemon at a time. In the first round, people will submit a Pokemon or core which they would like to see a team built around. In subsequent rounds, people will submit Pokemon that complement what is already on the team. At the end of each round, people can vote on what they like the most, and the submission with the most votes will be added to the team. Ideally, this project will allow newcomers to LC to see how more experienced players go about building an team.

Rules
  • Please refrain from posting bad or "gimmick" sets. Innovation is fine, but I reserve the right to exclude sets that suck from voting. In general, don't post Pokemon below B- viability without extremely solid reasoning.
  • When posting a Pokemon, post it with a moveset, and a few sentences of description on why you think it fits the team and why you chose the moveset you chose.
  • When voting, you can only select one submission. Explanations of votes are nice but not required.
  • Feel free to discuss other submissions, but please only refute others' sets with solid reasoning (as opposed to "I hate Snivy so I don't want to include it").

Round 1 has begun as of today! Please submit a single set or a core for the community to build around. Sets or cores should be viable, and ideally give the team direction (standard Eviolite Mienfoo, for instance, can pair with anything and doesn't really immediately suggest where the team will go). I'll try and keep rounds to about a week long, so expect the nomination phase to be open about four days.

Bunnelby has been receiving very little usage despite its great wallbreaking and cleaning potential. While it does struggle in the current meta with the strong presence of Fighting-types and Onix, these flaws will present an interesting challenge when teambuilding. With sufficient support Bunnelby can overcome these problems and prove to be a very powerful Choice Scarf user, as its immense Attack stat of 28 allows it to 2HKO almost anything. Plus it's cute.

I got this set from inf so I'm not sure if it's standard or a secret heat innovation. If it's the latter, sorry for stealing your ideas inf :( anyway scraggy has the power to sweep any unprepared team, and even some relatively prepared ones. It's just viable enough that it can win games, but not such a top-tier threat that everyone considers it while teambuilding. Teams with scrag also don't need to fall into any particular archetype: you can go for a defensive team with scraggy as its sweeper, or an offensive one that utilizes it as a wallbreaker. With Moxie, a kill from Scraggy combined with a DD boost can quickly snowball into a win. Substitute is really helpful for getting a setup, especially considering that people will usually switch to a check or try clicking a status move. If this set is actually garb then we can just use the standard one too :shrug:

Mudbray @ Berry Juice

Mudbray has fallen out of favor recently, especially offensive variants, although it still remains a solid threat in the tier. It has a very high attack stat which allows it to perform an offensive set well. Stamina is particularly helpful against many of the tier's omnipresent physical attackers: Vullaby, Mienfoo, Pawniard, and the like. Mudbray also has favorable matchups against Fire-types such as Torchic that are growing in popularity currently. The moveset is pretty standard and I don't see how you could deviate much from it unless using something like Rock Tomb to hamper switch-ins. All in all, it's an interesting offensive mon that is criminally underused which I think would create a very fun and creative team.

Snover has a pretty neat niche in the current meta. Hail breaks sashes and Sturdy and its got two very spammable STABs. With a Life Orb nothing really switches in against Snover. Many of the relevant Pokemon that resist Ice — Staryu, Shellder, Chinchou — are weak to Grass and can't do much damage back. Ice Shard is very nice priority that hits birds super effectively. Hidden Power Fighting hits Pawniard and Magnemite for good damage. Protect is an option if you are not worried about Steels and it is nice because it lets you scout against Scarfers and whatnot.

Here are some calcs. These calcs assume the opponent is switching into Snover because it is a frightening tree and they are frightened.
vs. MIENFOO - need minimal chip. Mienfoo has 21 HP and Blizzard into Ice Shard plus hail damage is 19. Blizzard OHKOes non Eviolite variants.

vs. CROAGUNK - Nasty Plot can't OHKO with Vacuum Wave and taking a Vacuum Wave can usually be avoided assuming a 16 damage roll with Blizzard — 16 + 1 hail damage + 5 Ice Shard = 22 HP. Bulky Gunk isn't KOed by Blizzard into Ice Shard most of the time but it only needs to take 1 HP in prior chip before it is.

I could post more calcs but I am lazy so I wont.

Snover appreciates partners that can provide Knock Off support like Mienfoo or Timburr or Croagunk or Pawniard or Vullaby or Alolan Grimer or fuck what else gets Knock Off because when Pokemon don't have Eviolite they are more easily KOed. Stealth Rock support is also helpful for chip damage. Snover is 2x weak to Stealth Rock so hazard control is important. Slow Volt Switch and U-turn users can get Snover inside safely. Sticky Web lets Snover outspeed all unboosted Pokemon in the tier with the given EV spread.

I think we should use Snover because global warming is making shit melt and pretty soon it will be too hot for Snover to be used without melting. So we should use it while we can. Also we should try to stop global warming from killing all the cute Pokemon but I don't know how to do that.

Also I have no recollection of what my reasoning was when I made Gummys Scraggy set. Actually I have no recollection of anything before a week ago except a vague sense of growing dread and the metallic taste of blood.

NP Croagunk + Munchlax is a core that I like, since the typing of Croagunk covers Munchlax from its nightmare, which are the Fighting types, such as Mienfoo, Timburr and his partner. In exchanges, Munchlax's great Special Defense and ability helps Croagunk to wreak havoc by tanking almost every special attacker in the metagame, removing Gastly and Abra, which Gunk can't beat, and messes with all Ponyta sets. It may be slow, but it's pretty good if it's well built around.

The idea is that with Parting Shot from Pancham, setting up a Smash with Deep Sea Tooth Clamperl with the same bulk as if it had an Eviolite. With the power of Deep Sea Tooth, Clamperl can also OHKO threats to Pancham that are otherwise not hit too hard by Gunk/Drain/Knock, such as Foongus and Pumpkaboo after rocks (Meaning Ice Punch is not needed, allowing Pancham to run the set above. The reason Clamperl is chosen > say Shellder/Oma/Dwebble is mainly for it's immense power already before smashing, meaning it doesn't even have to smash to be a threat in the game. Ofcourse, if say Shellder is preferred then by all means, but would suggest adding Ice Punch on Pancham then > Gunk Shot. There are certainly other mons that Clamperl can threaten out that would otherwise switch in on Pancham, such as Snubbull/Bulky Vullaby/Spritzee/BU Rufflet/Frillish/Spinarak.

I figured this core would be fun as it's something a little bit different from the usual teams, but may be hard to get anything solid around this I guess. We'll see

I think Cranidos is a fun mon to build around, its underrated af, it has a massive attack stat with a great movepool. It can tear-apart standard builds if you predict correctly or get rid of mons faster than it, its speed holds it back from being a top-tier threat. Fire Punch hits all steels like Ferroseed, Pawniard. You can bait fighting types into thinking your scarf and OHKO them if they're chipped with Zen Headbutt. Iron tail OHKOs Snubbull at -1 if you manage to hit. Rock slide is main stab, you can use either thunder punch to hit bulky waters like slowpoke and staryu or Eq to hit A-grimer, Chinchou. Cranidos + Surskit could work well as surskit gets sticky web to lower opponent's speed.

I'm not really a fan of any of these choices. We've already built around Scraggy and Clamperl so I'd rather avoid those right now. I've used Gunklax as a core before and I didn't like it. Using Cranidos and Snover means we'll probably have to use webs or some other special support. Mudbray and Bunnelby are annoying to build around but are probably the best options. I suppose I'll go with Bunnelby because I'm interested in seeing see how it gets used.
