Let's Play! Let's Catch 'em All in PMD Explorers of Sky! (Part 38: Zero Isles & Kecleon)

I remember amp plains being kind of difficult for me so here
You have to play as mudkip
You can bring any fire type starter Pokemon with you
No other restrictions

Idk how this kind of mission works but basically eevee wants his joy ribbon back, the meanie jolteon took it
Or eevee is playing a prank on jolteon and wants you to steal his precious joy ribbon
Depending on how it plays out

And you get a link cable

I honestly don't know how difficult this mission is if it's too hard let me know and I'll generate a different thing

My challenge concerns a Magmar, who lost its precious Link Cable in Bottomless Sea. Due to the abundance of water types, he is obviously scared of going in there. Therefore, he asks you to go and retrieve it. However, after retrieving the precious item, he decides that in order to become stronger he should not rely on others to do the hard work. He thus decides to gift you the item in order to help you on your journey.
The only rule is that you have to bring Peanut (or any other Pokemon with Snow Warning with you). Why you ask? Well I remember you saying:
"In the midst of a Monster House Peanut levels up, which now means he’s at evolution level and thus WE CAN SEND HIM HOME AND NEVER DEAL WITH HAIL BULLSHIT EVER AGAIN. HOORAY"
Oh, and the mission is on the 49th floor because I also remember you saying:
"And we never need to come this deep into the dungeon again! Hooray"

So yeah... Have fun :)
(
at least it's not an escort mission)

Code:

Dr. Slowking, the noted scientist, is interested in the ancient technology present in the Concealed Ruins; however, he is too weak to explore there on his own. He has enlisted your help to find the Upgrade, a device that can evolve Porygon into Porygon2, and has promised to give it to you if you can guide him to it.

No extra restrictions; escort missions in Nidoqueen dungeons are hard enough. Mua ha ha ha ha...

(protip: AoE moves of your own might be a good idea)

i have been told that you have all the missions u need. that being SAID, i still intend to put you through your paces.

it's a simple task, really. Your Wigglytuff wants to be like the Guildmaster, and get more Apples. There's a juicy Big Apple waiting in Zero Isle South. Go get it.

RULES: Go to Zero Isle South. Your party member is Wigglytuff. Find the Big Apple. I want it.

As some of you may know, Alti and me have been discussing in PMs about who should do the run for Gates to Infinity. Also, as I've stated before, I've played the game before, have a ROM of it, and am basically willing to run it. She's very open to me taking up the reins for that game, especially as she's experiencing burnout and wants to do other things with her life (she wouldn't want to run the game for a long while after this PMD2 run).

To this end, Alti and me have decided to poll the thread to decide who does the GtI run. I made said poll and it can be found here: http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=5ba4185ae4b05a9fecb011f0 . Note that I can start the run shortly if chosen and she's fine with me running the Gates run during her PMD2 run.

Please do vote and I hope to see a nice turnout.

To clarify a bit, I do want to play GtI, but I'm getting burnout a point that when this run is over I'm actually going to take a long break from computer-tech (video games included) in general (there are other reasons but this is a big one). So even if the poll generally votes for me, I'm not going to guarantee anything - whether I'll do it at all, or if I do, when I'll be back to do it. So it's more like, if you want to see a GtI run at all vote for King Feraligatr, if you'd rather see my style of commentary specifically (everyone else be damned) but are okay with the fact that the run simply may not happen, ever, vote for me lmao

To add to the Gates poll thing, the cutoff for us counting the results will be on 11:59 PM UTC -6 this Sunday. Yes, you can still "vote" after that, but it won't mean anything.

I thought it wouldn't (the outlaw I chose wasn't inspiring with much confidence if it'd work). Here's the the same mission with a different outlaw. Hopefully it'll work:

To everyone who submitted missions: Thanks for doing so! I'll comment more on them individually as I take them on. And be sure to check out King Feraligatr's GtI LP if you haven't already since that's the sequel to this one lol.

Fairly be ye warned: if you're on Discord and have heard me talking about the game nonstop you'll know this by now, but the game was played in a very, very different order than how I present it from here on out - I'm doing it as I am to keep a steady narrative and build up tension and drama for the end. I wouldn't be mentioning it except it's pretty easy to tell if you look at Jirachi's levels lol. (fun bonus game try to piece together the order I actually played the dungeons in :vvv)

Let's get to it!

Sometime during the previous update and now, I reached the last rank...

unlocking Inferno Cave in the process.

And there’s absolutely no way I’m going to waste time waiting for the mission to show up on its own. I’m just too impatient by this point.

I can only take eight items and my leader. Of course I’m taking a Water-type, and here’s my item selection. The dungeon is 30 floors long, so I think this is a decent inventory.

ok but why is it raining here

OK BUT WHY IS IT SNOWING HERE

ok if i expected a weather on the entei fight floor it sure as shit wasnt snow

sounds Wonderful

it dies in 2 Water Guns lol

man this place just has all the weather doesn’t it lmao

We pick up a box in the last room and get on out. Then...

You’ve sure caught my attention! I’d like to join Team Hurricane!
Of course! That was only the entire point of going through all the effort to unlock your dungeon after all.

Entei: Hey, thanks!
So casual. I love it.

From now on, my strength... My strength is yours!
And that’s it for the legendary beasts, as well as unlockable dungeons! Of course, we still have a lot more to do.

In the box from the dungeon we get the IQ Booster, which when held boosts the Pokémon’s IQ every time you go to a new floor. That would be very helpful for Jirachi, if we hadn’t... already... gotten it to the IQ point it needs to be by the time I got here. Oops

We don’t have any more of the Seven Treasures legends to fight since we finished that last time. We do have legendaries to get, but I’m only going to pick up one in this update... and before that, taking on the fan missions.

Starting with the Amp Plains mission given by smogon account, as well as another outlaw mission since wynaut. Amp Plains isn’t hard and it segues well into the next thing I was going to do in this update anyway.

Here we are with Mikey and Chimichang, whom I raised to level 22 for this. Let’s go!!!

And I won’t resist a good recruit!
BF named it Dumbo.

Oh shit we have to chase it...?

I threw an X-Eye Seed at it to prevent it from being able to run properly. It... took several turns to take down because wow being low level and fighting an outlaw above your skill level sure is Actually Difficult. Nice.
Thanks for the mission, smogon account – it was a thrill!!

And we get our Link Cable out of it.

Following up on that, before we take the other missions, let’s clear out Amp Plains.

Positive.

Konami and I’m not really sure why lmao

the majestic bird sleeps

And joins our team!!!

bf named it BeepBeep bc “beep beep I’m a sheep” which is apparently an internet song of some variety??????

Lightning bc I’m unoriginal and tend to name Pikachu that.

Giratina suggested Megaguirus for this.

Bf named it Lightyear.

Rhea.

Kurona named it Holmes.

BF named it Pi.

Simba by Giratina93.

Mufasa :pppp

Let’s take on the other missions, starting with Merritt ’s adventure to Mt. Avalanche.

Looks like the mission works!

So here we are on Mt. Freeze Avalanche (well they do look similar) with Red, Green and Storm. Or, uh, Apophis the Charmeleon, Sunrise the Grovyle, and an unnamed lv. 15 escort Absol, I... guess.

I gave them both better movesets than what they had when I recruited them before, too.

Items are Def. Scarf for Sunrise, X-Ray Specs for Apophis, Iron Thorns, Gravelerocks, Apples, Oran Berries, Heal Seeds, Reviver Seeds, Max Elixirs, Cleanse Orb, Escape Orb, Petrify Orb, Trawl Orb. Nothing that wasn’t in PMD1 – I don’t need the Amber Tear because I already recruited everything here.

Let’s go!

I don’t need a Zangoose but I might as well take a friend just for some extra backup! She comes at level 42 with Fury Cutter, Detect, Quick Attack, and Taunt.

aaaaagghhhhh no

lets go again

Surprise – I decided to take on an outlaw fight in addition to Merritt’s mission. Here we are on floor 18, one floor before the one we need to escort Absol to, with a gang of spiders to fight.

… except apparently I can’t use a Petrify Orb. Um... oh dear.

Oh no

Oh heck

Okay, um, let’s do that again without the outlaw mission, clearly these guys aren’t good for it yet.

We manage to make it, though. Success!

And we get a Dubious Disc from it, of course.

Following that, we go for Hydrachomp ’s mission.

i guess we’re doing this now

we’re here now because SoMeBoDy decided this was a good idea
(nah i’m just kidding, it’s fine, just a lil tedious haha)

I suppose Peanut falling into a Pitfall Trap and dying counts as failing.
Let’s go again...

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

glad thats done. (no it wasnt actually that bad lol i’m just exaggerating for. No real reason i guess)

Next up...

Giratina93 gave me this mission over Discord, with the stipulation I have to play as Salamence with a Flygon partner. Sure, works for me. Let’s see if it goes so smoothly.

Floor 35. Let’s go.

Made it, this was the second try. (First time I died on like floor 9 because I had turned off Toothless’ Item Master IQ skill some time back and forgot I did, which means she couldn’t use Reviver Seeds when she died here. I remembered to turn it on this time.)

Awesome. That’s that mission – thanks Giratina93!

Despite the generally low level of my dudes in comparison to what I would normally be using for the dungeon, it really wasn’t that difficult, mostly because my dudes’ attacks were strong enough that they mostly 2HKO’d opponents, so they didn’t have a chance to do a whole lot of damage to me. Certainly an interesting requirement though, and I legitimately did have fun with it. Thanks again!

The two Concealed Ruins missions by lucariomaster2 and King Feraligatr . Not looking forward to it lmaooooo screw Concealed Ruins.

So that’s why I’m leading with Salamence and bringing (Powder Snow) Articuno for MAXIMUM EARTH POWER AVOIDANCE. We’ll... see what happens.

the nidoqueen was SLEEPING and then Articuno here thought it’d be a GOOD IDEA to hit it with Ice Shard which it survived and murdered my poor client, wasting one reviver seed

DIE
DIE
i ended up wasting a valuable Petrify Orb to hold it in place til we could actually take care of it >:(

all right, made it through 10 floors with only 2 Reviver Seeds gone (the second was wasted on Slowking, who got hit by a Delcatty)... can we make it

ARTICUNO THIS IS WHAT POWDER SNOW WAS MADE FOR, SHOW US YOUR POWER

why wouldnt you use it...

FFFFFUCKS SAKE ARTICUNO

All right... but now I only have one Reviver Seed left

15 down...

wtf I look away for one second... now we have no protections

rrrrgggg this is so damn tense

Eghghh... That sucks but I’m not going to consider it a lose condition because I was allowed to bring whoever I wanted...

Here we are, there’s the Link Cable, and there also is the stairs. So if I can get to my destination on the next floor, we’re good... but I used up all my Petrify Orbs when I spawned into rooms with Pokémon I couldn’t see, as a protective measure. So...

Oh thank God no enemies in the opening room. Now can we actually live long enough to get the outlaw’s item back...?

Oh... good lord. I have nothing, nothing that can help prevent the impending hell of that Weezing up there from murdering Slowking and I can’t force Slowking to run away. Um...

One Weezing exploded which resulted in the barrier being gone, so now I can actually hit both Weezing. So... now I’m banking on that they won’t kill me and won’t go for Slowking.

Or they could blow themselves up with Explosion I guess...
I survived.
I really shouldn’t have.

But we aren’t done yet...

Now I just need to beat the Mightyena blocking it off from me...

FIRST TRY AUHGHHHDHSHSHFHHFF ALL RIGHT

Wow. That was rough. I really did work for the rewards.

There are two Zero Isle South missions – one from Ullar and one from Gurpreet Patel (whose initial Brine Cave mission didn’t actually work), but I’ll be saving those for when I actually get to Zero Isle South in the narrative for Dramatic Effect or something.

Instead, next up, let’s finish up the recruits for Mt. Bristle.

WELL I DO NEED TO GO TO MT. BRISTLE ANYWAY SO

… I don’t think a challenge there is going to be hard. I’m just super amused that it... exists at all.

Let’s go lmao
we have exactly two (2) things to get here: Geodude and Doduo

Bf named it Dell.

Per a very old suggestion, this one is Kiwi.

… can’t say I understand that choice of team but ok Steelix u do u

This is what the completed adventure screen looks like, by the way – including most of our legendary accomplishments but also the fact that we got all the Seven Treasures too.

Next up we’ll finish up Craggy Coast, the last of the water dungeons (save Marine Resort if you count that, I don’t really for some reason).

Here we need Spheal, Krabby, Dratini, Wingull, Gastrodon-E (yes we still don’t have one), and Sealeo.

bf named it Gyaranope

kurona named it seel

FryStealer lol

Slurpie.

Snappem.

Blubber. (Such interesting names lol)

Onto Mt. Horn, the next dungeon in the game... lol. I wasn’t really trying to go in order here but okay...?

Here we’re looking for Shroomish, Parasect, Natu, Ariados, Pineco, and Bonsly.

That was quick lmao. Giratina93 named it Starebot.

Nofists lol

Mrs.Venom.

This took way too damn long lol. Named Dyceps.

Grenade ofc

Crybaby lmao

Now for the last of the main-game dungeons for this update: Treeshroud Forest, which we haven’t seen in a rather long time, now that I think about it. Here we’re looking for Kadabra, Ralts, Houndoom, Ninetales, Alakazam, and a Kirlia for Gardevoir.

Teller lmao, the bf suggested Penn and Teller for Abra and Kadabra so this one is Teller.

April again

Kurona named it Fortissimo.

Onion because it’s... non offensive :p

Adriane after a friend.

Well, we already used Penn and Teller and there isn’t a good third name, so I went with Gob from Arrested Development who is a magician. (shhh I know he’s a man be quiet you)

We’re done with those dungeons, but now it’s time for a few you maybe haven’t seen before. The first one is Mt. Mistral, a dungeon that specializes in Flying-types. We only need four here, though: Drifblim, Aerodactyl, Staraptor, and... a fourth Flying-type I’ll show off...

Apart from the very questionable purple water I think it’s a neat tileset.

ChildThief which is a sad name :( its from Merritt tho

Sand Dan bc... idk... blame the bf

DHR named it Screee. (I forgot I had one already suggested :( sorry!!!)

There’s the Flying-type I mentioned!!! Guess I lied about only getting Entei and Zapdos this update, ooooooops. So yeah, this is where you’ll find Ho-oh. It’s quite majestic and I kind of love it here. But the important question – will it join my team?!

:( I guess we need to come back.

Second time’s the charm.
That’s it for Mt. Mistral! Easy enough, lol

Now I’m going to go back and clear out Mt. Travail. We were here before, when we went to go find Drowzee when Azurill was having a nightmare. Let’s clear out its recruits. Here we’re going for Ledyba, Usaring, Onix, Hitmonchan, Bibarel, Mr. Mime, Mankey, Meditite, and two Tyrogue, one for Hitmonlee. Meditite and Tyrogue are both available in another dungeon – Lost Wilderness – though, so we might try to get them there later on. (In reality, I was playing Mt. Travail recruit missions alongside Lost Wilderness ones, so I just took them wherever I got them first in real time. In Mt. Travail, I only ended up getting one Tyrogue, that was used for Hitmonlee.)

First recruit here. This is McGregor.

Bullseye.

Karate Bug.

Giratina93 named it Fauxboss.

Otrok.

bf named it Eric Andre

… that was all we got from this attempt, so we’re still missing Mankey and Tyrogue. Hopefully we can get them in one more go...

Also we evolve Tom Brady in the process.

The next time we go, we manage to pick up this Mankey. Named Angerboi.

… well, it WAS going to be bc that was Giratina’s suggestion, but uh, Primeape is AngeryBoy lmao. So I named it Mr.Chimp.

I got these both on the same floor what the Actual Hell. (Not shown: me also running into a second Mankey [recruity stuff])

I tried this mission once before and had to trawl the floors looking for them only to find … nothing
so
:v

This is to be a Hitmonlee and is named Kick’em.

Huh looks like they changed its base stats in this game so that its Defense isn’t literally half its Attack lmao. That’s good. Or it would be if I was aiming for Hitmonchan or Hitmontop anyway lmao

what is WITH this rate this is the second mankey i have found on THIS FLOOR alone like
where was this LAST time

W H A T I S T H I S

i haet dis. Im not even fucking trying

done yall
done

After this all happened, I ran across the following text in an MD2 guide:
If you are trying to recruit a pokemon found on a floor with more than 14 pokemon in its list, there is a way to take advantage of the changing Appearance %'s. While in a dungeon, you can view a list of the pokemon found on that floor. To do this, access the menu and select OTHERS and then select RECRUITMENT SEARCH.

Some of the Pokemon found on the Rec. Search list have boosted Appearance %'s. You can identify these boosted pokemon by identifying which pokemon are missing from the Rec. Search list and by adding their Appearance %'s to subsequent pokemon on the Rec. Search list.

For example, if you were looking for a Munchlax in Mystery Jungle on Floors 25-29, then this Rec. Search list would provide the highest chance of finding him.

Bulbasaur
Ivysaur
Venusaur
Metapod
Rattata
Raticate
Spearow
Nidoran-F
Nindoran-M
Vileplume
Venonat
Bellsprout
Weepinbell
Munchlax

Since this Rec. Search list is missing all the pokemon between Weepinbell and Munchlax, Munchlax will have a boosted Appearance % of 74.08%! You could then just hang around the floor and enjoy all the Munchlax that will be spawning.

Of course, these kinds of Rec. Search lists are rare, but if you do get a list that boosts a pokemon's Appearance % quite high, then do take advantage of it.
… so I’m going to take a guess and say we might have gotten something like this to happen with Mankey and/or Tyrogue here. Awww but I like being angry at the game for taunting me. That’s more fun

Anyway, Kick’em grew to level 20 in the same dungeon we got him in, so we can go ahead and evolve him once we get out of the dungeon.

oh I guess at level 20 Tyrogue actually has equal Attack and Defense stats. Interesting! So I need to give him a Protein before I can evolve him into Hitmonlee.

Fortunately I did have one in storage.

Last thing for this update – finishing up Marine Resort. Not very interesting, I know, but that’s for the next two updates. :p

We got pretty unlucky in this Marine Resort run with things appearing and/or joiningFinally... Corsola is 2% spawn (although to be fair, so is a lot of stuff in this dungeon, it’s got the three tiers of common-uncommon-rare going on) and the first two I found in previous attempts didn’t join.
Merritt named it Madness like Reefer Madness bc its. a coral

Excellent! I also had a problem finding and recruiting Buizel before so I’m very glad I picked it up on the same run as Corsola.
Lifebob lol

FINALLY HOLY CRAP. Clefable is not uncommon by any means but it might as well have a recruit rate of -22% like Darkrai for all the JOINING MY TEAM it WASN’T DOING. I must have encountered like at least a dozen and none of them joined me until this one right here
I think I even got the “Clefable gets boosted spawn rate” thing to kick in like I mentioned above with Tyrogue and Mankey, but it STILL WOULD NOT JOIN MY TEAM

merritt named it kidnapper. gr8

anyway, that’s it for this update!!! If you’ve been on Discord recently you’ll know that the rest of the game is … done. But even so I’m gonna wait a few days to post the other two updates just for like. Dramatic effect or something?? I don’t even really know but that’s what we’re doing.

Since we’re done, there isn’t any point in suggesting names or anything. I guess you can just comment on what’s going on and what you think will happen to me in the next two updates??? or something??? lol

Nice job on the first part of the final updates! I notice that you haven't shown all the fan missions --- will you be doing so later (I know you had trouble with the Zero Isle South ones)? Also, as I said to you on Discord, I expected you to get your ass handed to you in Concealed Ruins. I should have made my restrictions even harsher....... Nice job on clearing it in run one regardless.

King Feraligatr: Yeah those will be grouped with my "legit" Zero Isle South attempt, which is next time.
King Feraligatr and lucariomaster2: ok but why do u want me to suffer so much :( it's already bad enough i have to do destiny tower et al to begin with, why do i have to suffer additionally for my art!!!!!
Merritt: I think we all are haha.

On to catch a legend – one at Temporal Tower specifically.
Fun thing about Temporal Tower/Hidden Land: You can’t actually go with any Pokémon except for Alti and Ray, which makes sense lore-wise (a rare case of gameplay and story coinciding in a way that makes sense!). And partially that’s because you actually have to go talk to Lapras to go back – that’s right; you can’t just go like you would any other dungeon, you have to get back there the same way you went the first time.
Also you can’t recruit anything in Hidden Land or Temporal Tower except, well, Dialga. Which is why we have to evolve all these mons instead of recruiting them!!! Great...

Yes we would!!

After Hidden Land we end up at Temporal Tower... again.

Porygon, Bronzor... what I wouldn’t give to be able to pick you both up here and not in Spacial Rift Hell... (but we’ll get to that next.)

The uppermost floors of Temporal Tower have an interesting Easter egg in the form of Deoxys. It appears from floors 5-10 as a transparent figure. It’s in random forms, but never normal form, and cannot be recruited. There’s no real explanation for why it’s here, or why they are transparent and can’t be recruited – the best I’ve heard is that it’s just a simple reference to Meteor Cave in PMD1, where you had to fight one transparent Deoxys every floor in order to get to the next floor, and you could only fight (and recruit) the “real” Deoxys (which was uniquely in Normal Form) at floor 20 at the end of the dungeon.

AH, YOU TWO! IT’S BEEN A WHILE!
BUT... THERE CAN BE BUT ONE REASON YOU ARE COMPELLED TO RETURN HERE.
AND THAT IS TO... CHALLENGE ME TO A BATTLE!
awwwww yeaaaah

i can roar too
rooaaaaaaaaar

SO BE IT!
YOUR CHALLENGE... I ACCEPT!
HOWEVER!
IF YOU FAIL TO MUSTER ALL YOUR POWER AND SKILL...
THERE WILL BE NO VICTORY FOR YOU!
we beat you at level like 40 or somethin man bring it

GRRR-OOOOOOO!

yeah roar of time did two (2) damage to Alti and 26 to Ray lmaooooo

I... I HAVE BEEN DEFEATED... GRRR...
… and then he offers to join the team. Nice segue!

We let him join ofc...
Dialga: TO THE VICTOR... GO THE SPOILS! I ACCEPT THAT!
I WOULD BE HONORED... TO TALK BY YOUR SIDE!
Awesome.
So hilariously enough, you know how I said Alti and Ray are the only mons that can go back to Hidden Land/Temporal Tower? I mean it. So the list of Pokémon not allowed to go back includes Dialga.
Dialga can’t go back to Temporal Tower once you recruit it.
A maz ing.

Anyway, on to Spacial Rift! We take this in several stages because it’s just got so many Pokémon to get and also I took several missions here, and missions prevent you from going on to the deep part of the dungeon – thus preventing us from going to fight/recruit Palkia. Because I was trying to take as many missions as possible to unlock Inferno Cave, that pretty much necessarily meant most of my first attempts at recruitment in the dungeon were from the first part only.

The dungeon shares a lot of Pokémon between the first and second halves. These are Kadabra, Charizard, Jolteon, Sableye, Honchkrow, Magnezone, Electivire, Chimecho, Gligar, and Toxicroak. These mons are available all the way through both parts of the dungeon, and we want all of them except Kadabra.

Tropius, Dusknoir, Drowzee, and Spiritomb are all available for a small number of floors at the bottom of Spacial Rift and a small amount at the beginning of Deep Spacial Rift. These mons are somewhat hard to come by. Drowzee and Spiritomb are the most common, sharing the same ~6.5% spawn rate as (most of) the other inhabitants of the dungeon, but its low floor availability makes it harder to actually get. (I didn’t realize Spiritomb was so common when I decided to fight for one in Sky Stairway, where it’s a little less common (though still has the same distribution as most of the others). If I had known, I might have saved it for here. Oh well.) Tropius maxes out at a 3.58% spawn rate, giving it about half the commonality as the other inhabitants. Dusknoir is the hellish one, as its spawn rate maxes at the incredibly low 1.63%. Also it can walk through walls to run away from you. So... have fun with that!!
(I remember when I finally got one in my cart copy of Sky way back when, I know it was a Dusknoir because the X-Ray Specs revealed something moving around where it really shouldn’t be, so I went to check it out and boom, Dusknoir that joined my team.)

Chatot, Xatu, and Gallade are exclusive to the first half of the dungeon, but they’re common encounters.

Hypno is exclusive to the second half, but it’s a common encounter. (I thought it was a lot rarer than it actually was, hence the introductory post implying it was as hard to get as, say, PMD1 Pidgey. I should really revise that to something like “Dusknoir, Lapras, and Lucario” to reflect the actual difficulty of things, lol.)

Drapion, Solrock, and Bronzor are also exclusive to the first half, but they’re... decidedly not so common. Drapion appears on floors 1-6 and its spawn rate maxes at 2.70% which is... granted still not absolutely terrible... but by no means fantastic either. Solrock and Bronzor mostly share the same spawn rates which hover at <2%, though Solrock is present on one extra floor where its rate jumps to 2.25%. Bronzor maxes at 1.67%, and you need two to evolve one into Bronzong. HAVE FUN.

Porygon and Lunatone are exclusive to the second half. Lunatone is available on 4 floors and its rate maxes out at 1.80%. Porygon is available on 6 and its rate maxes at 2.27%, and you need three to evolve two into Porygon2 and Porygon-Z. Again. HAVE FUN.

Oh, there’s also some legendaries here too! Latios (which we already got) is on floor 5 of Deep Spacial Rift, Latias is on floor 10 of the regular dungeon, and Darkrai is on floor 14 of the regular dungeon. With how many times we (probably) have to traverse the dungeon, it’s not unlikely we might collect one or both.

Now do you see why I complained about not being able to pick up Bronzor or Porygon (or Solrock or Lunatone for that matter!!!) in Temporal Tower? They are much more common there!!!! :BBBBBBBB

Let’s do it!

On the first run:

Eileen for... some reason idk

ALPHA THE MAGNET WARRIOR
… or just Alpha I guess

“Name for a Xatu.”
“A WHAT?????”
“It’s the totem bird you liked!”
… he named it Redcorn after John Redcorn from King of the Hill

“Just name it Gardevoir just to piss people off.”
lol k

Oddball, by Merritt.

An old suggestion, Chime. Super original but that’s what we’re using!!!

Jane per the name scheme. look one where the Eeveelution’s name actually fits its gender

Scorpio. Was also thinking about Facehugger but man... Alien was so visceral :(

Shit! I’m very pleasantly surprised that worked! (I already ran into a Drapion that didn’t join me so :()
Merritt named it Magicmiror.

2 things for me to attempt to recruit on the screen right now. lmao

one is successful
named Rash after a battletoad

And the other too. Nice!

the name suggested a while back on Discord was Pervert which is sad but eh :c

argh doduo ran to the stairs. We failed that mission :((((

AAAAAGGHHHHH FIRST TRY MY BITCHES HOLY COW
Dusknoir has a 1.52% chance to spawn on this floor specifically.
Here it spawned in a Monster House. The Monster House was really tough to get through, I used up all my Oran Berries and a Heal Seed as well as a Reviver Seed fighting it, because I was dumb and didn’t use the Petrify Orb right away and then something used Safeguard, which protects everything in the room from status (including Petrify).
Also something used Knock Off and removed Ray’s Amber Tear which meant I had to do weird Pokémon shuffling to get it back and then I couldn’t actually afford to spend a turn equipping it so I had to just kill everything but Dusknoir and then equip it and attempt to recruit Dusknoir.
And it woooooooooorked hooray! I mean with an 8% recruit rate it goes up to like 58% with the level boost & Amber Tear but even so. Very pleasantly surprised on that.
BF named it Origami for the Origami Killer in Heavy Rain lmao
(I forgot Bill was suggested I’m sorry :()

… That was all we ended up getting on this try. We still have Solrock, Drapion, Drowzee, Bronzor (for Bronzong), Darkrai, and Tropius to get from the lower dungeon. So... the rare stuff (Drowzee excepted) and then Darkrai. Great...

Second attempt:

I’m getting lucky with these rare recruits on missions... means I won’t have to waste time with them when it comes time to actually go for Palkia, and I can focus more on the lower half of the dungeon.
BF named it Kermit. (and Lunatone is going to be “Kormet” apparently)

Three Tropius and two Bronzor in this Monster House. Guess today’s my lucky day. (Maybe.)
I learned from my earlier mistake with Dusknoir though... Petrify Orb go!

The three Tropius didn’t join... but what about the Bronzor...?

I hate everything

Well, Tropius and Bronzor may not have joined, but Darkrai did!!!

… drowzee and tropius... can i get lucky here...

no on Drowzee and Darkrai killed Tropius with Ominous Wind so I won’t ever know :(

DROWZEE............

>:(

i mean hooray we got Darkrai (finally) but even so. Cmon guys

Third try!

Bananasaur.

Sleepy :b

No Bronzor or Drapion though...

Tempest evolves into Dragonite after that run.

Fourth try!

this only took FOUR DAMN BRONZOR
WHICH HAVE LIKE A <2% SPAWN RATE
ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME U LITTLE SHIT

Named BellTolls.

Anyway this mon is lv 8. It needs to evolve into Bronzong. At level 33.
Fun.

I am... having some bizarre luck with actually running into Bronzor in this go, though. It wasn’t too long after I found the first Bronzor (of this run) that I got the successful second recruit, and now this without even trying for it.

No Drapion, guess we need to come back later... But not this run. This is the Palkia run!

A pleasant surprise! This happened on our journey to Palkia, so only two in the future.
Named Ubuntu.

Here we go!
AND THIS IS MY SPACE! MY TERRITORY!
ALL THOSE WHO VIOLATE SPACIAL RIFT...
I WILL DESTROY! NO MATTER WHO IT IS!
BUT... YOUR REGRET COMES TOO LATE!
THERE IS NO ESCAPING! YOU MUST FACE ME IN BATTLE!

Extremespeed and two Force Palms.

Palkia: I... I HAVE BEEN DEFEATED... GRR-OOOOOO!

lmao good

IT IS NOT THE STRONG THAT WIN. THOSE THAT WIN ARE STRONG.
AND YOUR STRENGTH... I SUBMIT TO IT.
FROM NOW ON, I TOO WILL WALK... TOGETHER WITH YOU!
So we get Palkia! Both of the dimension gods are ours. Hooray!
(palkia can in fact return to Spacial Rift unlike poor Dialga lmao)

We’re still not done yet, though – still have to pick up Drapion, Lunatone, two Porygon, and Hypno!

Fifth try!

That’s officially everything out of the main part of Spacial Rift!! I don’t think I went directly on to the deep part from this (I think this might have been in a mission?) but it doesn’t really make much of a difference as far as the attempt numbers or narrative is concerned...
Worldie named this Drapion Grimsley.

Second attempt at the deep part:

i
a dusknoir
without trying???????
what... is this madness

Oh thank god it actually joined me. Named Duck.pkm.

But this one didn’t... even though I found it VERY quickly after the first one (comparatively) so recruiting it would have been great. Guess it’s never that easy.

Xen suggested Freud. It’s a girl but... I guess... somehow that makes it more Freudian...?

… that was all we got that time, though. One Porygon and one Lunatone left!

Third try:

again
what in the heck

will you join me, friedn

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Then I lost another one, a second one... and soon after I went to the next floor and immediately...

raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeg my dudes

All right! Named Kormet.

… but we still need another Porygon. So on to the fourth try:

please please please please plea

aaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!! nice
(in reality this was actually the last Pokémon I recruited except for Entei, Shaymin, and Kecleon – two 100% encounters and then, well, Kecleon – so this was kind of a big deal!)
Named Arch.

Well Spacial Rift took... entirely long! Let’s move on to something a little easier and more guaranteed, shall we? Such as, say, a 100% recruit chance legendary?

In order to get Shaymin, we have to climb all of Sky Peak again. That’s all, but also, why do we have to do that, why can’t we just get it from Shaymin Village??? Eh, oh well, gotta do what we gotta do. It could be worse, it could be a lot worse after all lmaoooo

There probably won’t be much worth showing off this time, so we’ll probably just cut ahead some...

though as u can see we have the same rest stop areas as befo- waaaait

LOL RIGHT WE CAN JUST SKIP HALF THE DUNGEON
SURE I’M DOING IT, WE ALREADY DID THE WHOLE MOUNTAIN ONCE

lololol Nice

Oh. I guess there is dialogue. From our mountain hermit on the snowy slopes of the peak. Love it, love his lifestyle.

I heard from Shaymin you were finally able to reach the summit. Congratulations!
Huh? How is that Sneasel you helped at the 7th Station Clearing doing?
… oh, right, the bizarre sort-of-plot of Sky Peak. I forgot.

Oh, him. The next day, while I was out on my rounds patrolling the mountain, he snuck off...
uh
well then
i thought he’d changed

Well, it seems like he recovered his strength. You don’t really need to worry.
I don’t particularly... care

Oh, that reminds me. He left this behind...
I think it’s a token of his appreciation...
You should take it.
Alti takes it, it is...

… oh I thought it would be more interesting

You gently open the lid...
Inside was the Calcium!
still not very interesting lmaooo

A warm and fuzzy feeling falls over you...
ok game

that’s it for that, let’s continue up the mountain

we are here!

I’m so glad that you’ve decided to climb this mountain again.
A mountain is really something special, isn’t it?
I absolutely agree.

You can forget all your worries and troubles here...
I’m not sure why, but everyone here is honest and openhearted.
:) that’s so nice.

It’s really strange...
That reminds me, Team Hurricane.
I’ve been thinking about this for some time now, and...
Looking at this mountain’s scenery, I’ve finally made up my mind.
Um... I...
I was deeply moved while climbing the mountain with you, Team Hurricane. I won’t forget it...
:3 i’m so touched by this

Absolutely!

So we let Shaymin in, then...
Shaymin: Really?
Th-thank you so very much!
I’m so incredibly happy!
I’m so glad I finally brought myself to ask!
And that’s Shaymin!

Also we can look at the scenery again. So lovely.

One more legend to get after that. It’s not 100% but it’s not Darkrai either, and we need to get some Pokémon from the dungeon anyway. So let’s move on to a new dungeon, Shimmer Hill.

I think this is the first time I’ve been here, anyway????? Well hello Mt. Steel tileset (maybe).
Here we’re looking for Tauros, Espeon, Houndour, Stantler, Miltank, and the aforementioned legend...

well that was fast
bf named it Stan because. stan tler

Named Casey.

it’s named Impending bc it’s... impending doom...... blame the bf

“How many did Ash have?”
“Thirty.”
“Name it Thirty.”
“That’s what I named the last one!”
“Name it ThirtyOne.”

Hello mystery mon!
So yeah, this is where you can recruit Deoxys outside of running into the transparent form in Temporal Tower. Here, though, it’s both not transparent and also always Normal Form. And can we get it on the first try????

… no. :( Well, we still need to come back for Espeon anyway, so...

Next try...

Named Ishaan.
… and then we can’t actually get Deoxys on this try because we have a mission on his floor, which prevents Secret Slab legends from showing up. Fabulous planning!

So we have to come back again.

Finally! This took like... seven tries or something which sucks because. Floor 17 of the dungeon lmao
Yeah, it was just... not wanting to join my team. At one point I even wondered if it was literally impossible to recruit (I was being paranoid) and decided to test it by savestating and manipulating the battle to see if I could get it to join me – it did eventually, proving it could, but obviously I didn’t keep that because I got it through save state abuse. So I had to keep coming back. But eventually we got it.

Next up: A very very small and almost useless dungeon called Serenity River. It... has a couple Water-types we can’t get elsewhere. That’s about it. No, wait, that is it, lol. Actually it’s only one water type and that’s Masquerain. … which isn’t even a water type. GREAT. DUNGEON.
But I’m also going to pick up Poliwag here too just for... the sake of it...? lol

one down and it’s Alex Jones because chemicals in the water to turn the frogs gay
anyway this is serenity river great right

This gets the old suggestion Sunbitt.

THAT’S IT WE’RE DONE WITH SERENITY RIVER WASN’T IT A GREAT DUNGEON. Lol

Now time for the last two “regular” dungeons that we haven’t been to: Happy Outlook and Lost Wilderness! Starting with the former, where we’re seeking out Togepi and Togetic, Meowth and Persian, the Happiny line, Mime Jr., and Skitty.

Forgot to take a screenshot of the dungeon until we got our first recruit, though. Kinda Western Cave-y.
bf named it TryingTime bc

CRoll named it Iranian.

He also named this one Harlequin.

“Chansey’s a nurse, right?”
“Sorta, yeah.”
“So what comes before nurse?”
“Med student?”
“How do you fit that into a name?”
“Med Stud.”
“MED STUD. M-e-d space s-t-u-d. That’s just stupid enough to be great.”
Med Stud it is

I’m getting nightmarish flashbacks to Joyous Tower in MD1. Funny how the same sprite, in a completely different context, will do that to you.

:(

OfferEgg
to go with
trying
time

Ratched. As in Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Still missing Skitty, Meowth, and Blissey. Happy Outlook has this thing going on where every mon is either common (~13% spawn), uncommon (~9% spawn), or rare (~2% spawn). While that means you’re likely to find a lot of the rare mons as a collective (because 2x10 mons is 20% which is not bad), finding individual ones can be tricky. All three of these happen to be on the rare side of things.

Second attempt...

… only nets us Skitty.
more starkits prophecy/warrior cats references this is Ashfur

Third attempt...

Worldie demanded I named Meowth after him lol

Nice! I found one before and it wouldn’t join, and I wasn’t sure if I’d find another one on this run, so this is great. Named Jubilee.

Now on to Lost Wilderness, which is the last “main” dungeon of the game.

I don’t think we’ve been here either??? Well here it is. Here we’re looking for Abra, Lickitung, Hitmontop, Shiftry, Hariyama, Croagunk, Spinda, Makuhita, and Lucario. We also still have one Meditite and one Tyrogue to get after Mt. Travail, and since I already wrote about Mt. Travail I think it’s obvious I got them here and not there. :v

This dungeon also has the common-uncommon-rare dichotomy going on. The rare ones are Abra, Tyrogue, Makuhita, and Lucario.

Well that was quick. Merritt named it Fat Sensei.

this is Tony Jaa but not like I know why ask Merritt lol

Joanna. (My nickname lol)

“Name for a Spinda? Little spinny-rabbit-with-spots that might be drunk.”
“Scotchka.”

Pacific for … no real reason I just had weird thought association

Quercus

BF named it “1 2 Th” like the... tootsie pop commercials... he says

Long-overdue Penn. Still on the first dungeon attempt...

Marth bc of the Marth’s Fursona joke.

And hooray, I got this on the first attempt as well! lol
So you may notice I’m picking up Lucario and Feraligatr despite the fact that I have Alti in Ray. In PMD1, Red and Green did in fact count as recruits and I didn’t need to get an additional Charizard/Sceptile. Well... okay, to be honest I’m not 100% sure how it works in PMD2, because back when I was doing Sky the first time, when I was out recruiting, I noticed that the recruitment list had not filled in my starter and partner with a color, indicating I still needed to get them. It sort of made sense, since your starter and partner are very variable but the enemy mons/recruits are not, that you’d still have to go through the effort of picking up your starter/partner mons anyway.

Well... when I was recruiting in Lake Afar, Feraligatr showed up as “already recruited” in the recruit list. I got one anyway because I wasn’t thinking about it too hard, I just noticed it. But here, Lucario didn’t show up as already recruited?? So I got one. Don’t... really know why Feraligatr registered as recruited and Lucario didn’t, unless I was using Alti at the time and that’s why it registered that I had one??? I dunno. Either way I picked them up for “completion’s sake” (or something like that lol).

No Tyrogue or Makuhita on this run, though, so we must return.

We also pick up Rampardos out of the deal, though!

Going back...

Finally! This took way too long. I also did get a Tyrogue, named LilMac, but didn’t screenshot it because I thought I might be resetting if I didn’t get lucky with a Makuhita (the ones I was finding – with their 2% spawn – would not join my team). This was my second run through the dungeon and I would have been fine with just one of the two, but I did get both. So that’s Lost Wilderness cleared out!

Makuhita here was named Ben 10 lol

so that’s all the recruits except Kecleon! Except, wait, I guess I do need to show off the evolutions of all the stuff that’s been trained throughout all of the missions in the past two updates.

… Manectric...

… Bastoidon and Gardevoir...

...Bronzong (which was SO MUCH FUN because of being level 8 when I got it)...

… and Duskull.

We still have the Porygons to evolve but I haven’t gotten all their items from the missions yet. That’s for next time.

For now, let’s check out... the mazes.

Remember those? They sure were a thing that existed in PMD1 and I sure did ignore them here. They’re basically the same as they were there, type-specific training mazes, except a) they don’t have “bosses” at the end, b) some types are combined for a total of 10 mazes rather than 17, and c) I think the levels of the inhabitants actually sort of scale with the protags up until like 30...? I don’t really know because I never cared a whole lot about them.

But I do want to complete the Final Maze, which is unlocked after postgame, and is important for Reasons. Let’s go check out the doj-

You can’t tell in the screenshot but there’s an earthquake, guess the world is ending now

HmmmMMmmm
lets find out

It sounded as if... it came from inside the dojo.
Let’s go in, Alti!
Sure.

that wasnt there before??

thats what I get for not going in here at all before lmao

Ray: What just happened here?
Marowak: The wall just gave way!
And that big hole appeared where it was.
Come to think of it... My grandpa mentioned this a long time ago...
… eh?

Ray: Your grandpa?
Marowak: Yeah. You see, my grandpa built this dojo originally.
And that same grandpa told me that there was a very dangerous cave here.
It was so dangerous... he had the hole sealed up so no one could get in. I remember that now.
I. see

Back then, my grandpa used to tell me about that hole. And he’d never once fail to scare me silly...
ok then

...! Y-you two... You’re not...
??????? not??????

You’re not seriously considering going into that hole, are you?
Why not? We’re level 100.

Don’t do it. Don’t even think about it.
Too late

I... I can’t guarantee that you’ll ever come out of there...
Eh. No big deal.

… then the conversation ends. Good

So these are the mazes! I am going to do them, but I’m not really gonna show them off beyond one shot of each’s tileset/mons because they’re not the interesting part of this – Final Maze is! That cave over there.

WELL I SHOULD CERTAINLY MAKE SURE THIS DOESNT HAPPEN FIRST THO

Normal/Flying maze has Doduo and Staravia.

… hooray...?

That’s good work, you two!
But don’t get too comfortable! Train more! Become more powerful!
level 100 though

I’ll try harder! I expect you to do the same. We’ll all try harder!
YEP

Next one!

Mt. Blaze The Dark/Fire maze has Houndour, Poochyena, and Magby.

Marowak gives the same dialogue after each maze, not gonna repeat it.

Lapis Cave The Rock/Water maze has Omanyte and Kabuto.

Grass Maze has Shroomish and Carnivine.

Electric/Steel maze has Mawile, Mareep, and Magnemite.

Ice/Ground maze has Swinub and Phanpy.

“Fight/Psych” (lol) maze has Machop and Meditite.

I have no idea why the Poison/Bug maze looks like a desert but it has Spinarak and Skorupi.

Mt. Steel The Dragon Maze has only Bagon lol.

The final type maze is the Ghost Maze, which has only Misdreavus.

New dialogue for completing all the type mazes.

Not just that...
You’ve cleared all the training mazes! I’m blazed and amazed!
Good rhyme.

Wow... You’ve stomped all over my dojo!
For such a thorough stomping, you deserve a trophy of sorts... Take the dojo’s sign... No, that wouldn’t do.
… I don’t want a sign anyway thanks...

To begin with, the dojo doesn’t have a sign. Instead, I’ll give you this!
… o-oh

We get a Joy Seed.

That’s my personal treasure! You’re move than welcome to it!
But don’t let this be the end! You’ll keep training here, won’t you?
Yep... in the 48-floor Final Maze!

This dungeon is unique because, like the other mazes, items are forbidden! Unlike those, the Pokémon here are all recruitable, but it’s just most of the stuff we saw in the previous mazes, and none of it really benefits from being recruited here instead of elsewhere.

But in Time and Darkness, though, this is where you would have to go for Jirachi, Suicune, and Moltres: Jirachi on floor 23, Suicune on 29, Moltres on 40. You can’t boost their recruit rates with the held items, though, since items are forbidden, so you’re relying on level bonuses and (if you have it) Fast Friend exclusively. In Sky, though, they’re all moved – as we know, because we already got all three of them! So it doesn’t hold much interest to us – only some historical interest, I suppose.

Let’s get this going.

what the actual hell is this glowy portal it’s kind of amazing (and kinda pretty tbh)

apparently we’re in Ice Path got it
Music: Marowak Dojo

At level 100, nothing in the dungeon is really threatening. What is a problem is the inability to bring in items, resulting in the possibility of dying of hunger. Fortunately, with two Apples and an Orange Gummi, we are covered, at least for now.

Well... shit

oh okay thank goodness, that would have lost me this run otherwise

W O W this is bright as hell

and now we’re back.
Right. Floor 23 has Jirachi and looks different as a result. For... some reason, hell if I know.

GOOD
GOOD THING FOR MISSING

more Snow Hell. Why is this an ice dungeon though?????

WHY DOES IT KEEP CHANGING

Moltres’ floor, if we were playing Time/Darkness.

And now we’re back in ice dungeon because that makes sense

Two apples and one gummi is enough for us to get through the dungeon. Other than a crippling fear of Perish Song, not too bad!

Yep, we are alive!

Finally... Finally... You finally conquered that awful place!
I did it on the first try so I don’t know if “finally” is right but ok

It’s incredible! It’s incredibly incredible!
lol

Sniffle... I’m getting all emotional over this...
c:

You’ve managed to inspire someone like me... Thank you so very much...
And this is my thanks... It’s my show of gratitude!
It’s my grandpa’s treasure! Treat it with care!
Oh that isn’t necessary...

Oh all right, I guess.

If he were around to hear that an exploration team conquered that awful place...
Grandpa would have been overjoyed, that’s for certain!
Nice to hear.

That’s it for this update! We have now gotten all of the mons except for Kecleon, and the other dungeons are Zero Isle Hell so I wanted to save them.

See you around for the final update!

King Feraligatr: Thanks lol. For the luck wish not the suffering part :v

if images in the update are broken let me know, they are in preview but there doesnt seem to be any reason since the images exist?

It is time.

We already took on Zero Isle West earlier for the Amber Tear, but now let’s check out the other four Isles... and Destiny Tower, which might be worse than all of them... concluding with our final recruit, Kecleon.

Before that, though -

Our missions have brought Jirachi up to level 100 and given it the Fast Friend IQ skill, which it needs to recruit Kecleon. Fast Friend gives a 1% bonus to recruit. That’s it. All those gummis went into that. Great. Such a great use of my time and energy lmao

But that’s not what we’re doing first. So...

Here we go! The first of the Zero Isles, Zero Isle North.
The gimmick here is that Pokémon go up to level 90 in level, have pretty high IQ (making your life difficult), and you can’t gain experience (not that it matters for us anyway). PMD1 lacked any sort of challenge dungeons for Pokémon at high levels – the only challenges normalized every mon by putting them at level 1 – so this is a bit different, and I actually really like it. At 75 floors, this is the longest dungeon we’ve been through so far. Let’s see if we can pull it off on the first try, eh?

No Jirachi because I think Ray is generally stronger and I don’t want Jirachi tailing. (Also something something I’m really anal about only using starter/partner like a Wimp that’s totally not the reason nope.)

I said Pokémon go up to level 90, but they start somewhat lower: at the beginning they are around level 50, reach 60 at about 10, 70 at about 16, 80 at 26, and plateau at 90 at 50. There’s a gradual progression within each of these, though, it’s not a 10-level jump immediately. So it gets pretty hard pretty quickly – a full 40 level difference between the beginning and end of the dungeon!

In the early floors, Pokémon are still only doing 1-2 damage to Alti, who has very high defenses in general. She doesn’t OHKO everything anymore (Ray usually does), but doesn’t take much damage in return, which is nice.

Oh, right, there’s also a ton of locked rooms holding type-boosting Silks and some exclusive items for Pokémon. I don’t actually care about any of it, so sorry to say you won’t be seeing it. :V

crit thunderpunch did 2 damage.

wtf is this tileset i love it
it looks like windswept snow except its green???? and wtf is the walls

suffice it to say I’m nowhere near scared of the dungeon yet

1/3 of the way there...

the first attack to do more than 2 damage

it did 5 .

why is it snowing here this looks like a cave

WHY IS IT HAILING HERE
also we’re just over halfway through!

this was a crit Overgrow Leaf Storm.
6 damage.

This was Earthquake. This really puts into perspective the defensive difference between Alti and Ray, wow.

We’re in a Monster House. Ray died but Alti has only taken 8 damage. (Part of it was because she was frozen for several turns, which protects from damage, but still.) Kinda impressed I’m taking this on like this.

hooray!!!!!

2/3 of the way!

DRACO METEOR HITS BOTH MONS IN THE ROOM
(but doesn’t really do much lmaoooo)

15 floors...

avoiding monster houses hell yeah lmao

HOW!!!!!!!!!!! IS IT SNOWING HERE

carnivine can cross water??????? i mean i guess

5 floors...

Hooray!!!!!

Now we have the Golden Mask, which may or may not actually be superior to the Amber Tear for recruiting Kecleon. (Still not sure on that.) That’s part of the reason I took this on prior to the Kecleon recruit attempts, so that I would have it available to me.

Now on to Zero Isle East. The gimmick here is the same as West, South, and Destiny Tower: we’re level 1, but unlike West (which we did before) we can bring items. Only 16, but still!
(Looking back I’m really impressed I did West so easily lmao wow)
It’s 40 floors, same as West.

I didn’t mean to bring Jirachi but oh well, it’s here now, might as well let it try to do something lol.
Alti has Rage/Leer/Scratch/Water Gun, Ray has Quick Attack/Detect/Foresight/Metal Claw, Slifer has Smokescreen/Dragon Claw/Growl/Scratch, and Jirachi has Wish/Confusion.

alti and ray rose from level 2 to 5 after beating one (1) dewgong

Forgot to take a pic on floor 10 but we’re past that – ¼ of the way through...

why is there a feraligatr here in this lv 1 dungeon

halfway there...!!!!!

rest in pieces

SCUSE ME WAT??
ONE HIT

what IS this tileset??????

im glad i have many reviver seeds as these medicham are Hurting

we found a secret room whose stairs to get to it were. In the same room as the normal stairs.
i hate it

3/4 of the way!

OH GOD PRESENT
PRESENT
SUCKS

almost... there........

five
floooooors

HOORAY that was. More difficult than I expected but we still survived it!!!

lol great. We got two friend bows out of the boxes. So useful. Many recruit. Wow

Now for the new dungeon added for Sky: Zero Isle Center. Like North, this is a challenge for high-leveled Pokémon, and doesn’t allow experience to be gained. A few differences though:
-It has 50 floors rather than North’s 75.
-Pokémon start at level 90, plateauing at 99 around floor 20. Much, much more difficult than North by levels alone.
-Only 16 items can be brought to the dungeon – no limit in North.
-Enemy Pokémon have all of their IQ skills, including Intimidator (gives us a chance of not attacking them) for some. Most of the skills aren’t really relevant to us, but... they do exist and can be annoying in some niche situations.
-The player cannot call for a rescue if defeated.
-Traps cannot be revealed by just attacking the tile, which they can in other dungeons and in PMD1.

I don’t know if I’ve ever beaten this one. Let’s give it a shot.

here we go!!! leading with Jirachi because of its IQ skill Trap Seer, which lets it reveal traps it steps on without setting them off. A godsend for this kind of hell. Still bringing Alti because of her high defenses, though, and Ray for extra power and Extremespeed.

earth power did like 13 to Jirachi, 1 to Alti, and 34 to Ray. Cool

floor 11... 1/5 of the way there

now we’re in a forest
also, a togepi threw a doom seed at jirachi,, lowering its level to 99, and it cant get back to level 100 because this dungeon doesnt give experience.
It only needs 1 experience to level up.
GOOD

Halfway there. No Reviver Seeds used yet...

Fire hell... Still doing all right.

Now it’s not fire hell anymore???? Okay. Anyway, 60% through...

forest hell

15 floors left

also we beat an outlaw in the process lmao #nice

what IS this poison swamp bullshit

ah shit

10 floors, no Reviver Seeds yet.

and we’re in Thunderwave Cave I guess

OH GOD PERISH SONG at least it missed us all

It used it again though. First Reviver Seed, floor 42.

… oh right except I turned off Ray’s ability to use Items. Welp

what is this tileset

5 floors.........

One floor left, CAN WE DO IT?!?!?!?!

… yes.

So that’s the new Zero Isle added for Sky, done with very little issue. Not even a single Reviver Seed! (Ray just died remember lmao)

All four of the boxes on the last floor gave me the same item: Wish Mantle, which does... this. Shame that won’t help me for Kecleon, but cool that I got it!

Now on to the big one: Zero Isle South.
In Time/Darkness this was basically the Purity Forest analogue; in Sky Destiny Tower kind of takes over that role. All of the following are true:
-It is a level 1 dungeon.
-Items cannot be taken in.
-Only the leader may go.
-Recruiting is impossible.
-It is 99 floors.

So have fun!!!

Before we actually attempt the dungeon proper, though, I have missions from Ullar and Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request) to complete here. Ullar’s requires me to go to floor 12 using Wigglytuff.

This might kinda suck just saying

its lv 1 moveset is Sing/Disable/Defense Curl/Doubleslap, which I guess isn’t bad with two status moves, a Defense booster, and a multi-hit. But Wigglytuff doesn’t get anything else by level, so this might fall behind rather quickly.
Well, let’s go.
Floor 12 isn’t too hard though … hopefully.
We’ll see
here’s the stairs so :v

one (1) fight with a starmie led to two level ups
also the starmie died in 1 doubleslap hit so uhhh that was pretty cool I guess

uh what the actual hell ok lets go again????????

well that helps!

I didn’t
take
the
mission

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

okay lets do this again TAKING THE MISSION THIS TIME

why, do I have to go to floor 12 to find a big apple if one is right here lmao

Oh, a Pass Scarf! This might help protect me from attacks and FURTHER DEATH

oh i was dumb to be optimistic
of course

hooray

Well, nothing to lose...

i aint saying a damn thing

AGH SHIT

I don’t have words. I just don’t have words. Just anger and depression and defeat.

ON FLOOR 12 AGAIN GUYS AND EVEN IF I GET OUT OF THIS I AM VERY DEAD

Oh thank God

12 FLOORS
12 DAMN FLOORS
SHOULD NOT BE SO DAMN HARD
BUT HERE WE ARE.

RAEEEEG

Gurpreet’s mission asked me to go to floor 35 with a Groudon. I was not feeling that after this Wigglytuff failure (I just wanted to be done lol) but I gave it a shot anyway. Groudon’s a legendary!... right??

lets go...

that’s helpful

the fact there are monster houses is very ass but hey, pass scarf kills things for me

cool

… so then I gave up and asked if I could have a different mission or the requirements relaxed or something. Gurpreet agreed and said I could just do it as part of my normal run of the dungeon.

… so let’s go with that.

floor 1. 98 floors to go

lets go

Smoochum is generally considered one of the better Pokémon to use for the level 1 dungeons in this game, for what I know. It comes with a high PP attack in Pound, learns another one in a decent time in Confusion, gets a very early Sweet Kiss (Confusion is very very handy in this game, since it lasts for many turns and basically gives the Pokémon a 1/8 chance of actually hitting you), gets the room-clearing move Powder Snow (!!!!!!), has a great ability in Forewarn which basically boosts its evasion, and has decent stats on top of all that. Having no other experience with the level 1 dungeons in this game, I decide to pin my hopes on Smoochum for this and Destiny Tower.

… and then this happens.
GREAT START

FOR REAL this time...

prolly not a bad choice

sweet kiss means its time to get rekt (maybe)

OH GOODY

taking over Water Pulse actually lmao

ehehehehhehehehehehhehe

powder snow time

three uses of powder snow and this is what’s left i Love It

20 floors in............

PLEASE YES

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

god Powder Snow is such a lifesaver in this, wow

¼ of the way there...

oh my God can we not

absolutely picking up Confusion though, look at dat PP!

1/3 of the way through, and we complete Gurpreet’s mission.

lmao one (1) powder snow murdered all three mons in this room
smoochum op plz nerf

oh wow I really like this tileset a lot

ah shit! Gotta be careful

halfway there!

Gonna pass here I think, Sweet Kiss is better imo

SO
MANY
MONSTER HOUSE

AAAARGH THIS IS NOT GOING TO WORK

ffffffffffffffffuck

MerrittToday at 7:42 PM
6 tries is my limit
AltissimoToday at 7:42 PM
([i am not complainint]
ok
thats fair
MerrittToday at 7:42 PM
especially when one got more than 30 floors deep

… if you didn’t read that, basically I asked chat’s opinion on generating a rescue mail to save myself or if any of them would be rescued. Merritt agreed to, but ran into some trouble and was done after 6 attempts, at which point he generated me a code. I figured that was more or less a free pass to use it, and no one else objected, so I went ahead and rescued myself with it.

I feel like this is “fair” because the game does let you get rescued, unlike Destiny Tower, so it’s fair to do so, and “fair” to generate because it’s just speeding up a time-consuming (and, for Merritt, problematic) attempt to get someone else to help me. I just wanted to be done with the Hell Missions so I was willing to put my own desire to do the dungeon “fair” aside to expedite things.

I already finished Gurpreet’s mission by this point, anyway, which is all I really “needed” to do here.

Besides, there’s still Destiny Tower, where I can’t get rescued, so I have to beat that in one go anyway.

Let’s continue.

only a 6 star mission thats absolutely bull lmao but w/e

anyway the monster house is gone. But can we survive everything to come???

Pretty much useless for us.

ffffine ok gen time

(I asked about this one in chat too! And Merritt said I should just do it so I did it without really waiting on anyone else’s input.)

WHY AM I SUDDENLY HAVING SUCH A HARD TIME???? GOD
it’s like JUST this part of the dungeon too lmao

Well I made it here I guess. 2/3 of the way through...

Oh, that’s handy. Good. Very glad to have come across this.

Would probably be more useful if Pokémon had more HP and did less damage.

¾ of the way there...

ffffff I mean at least I had it but

LMAO GOOD. Immediately after.

20 floors...

well this sucks but Powder Snow won’t help much. Petrify Orb it is!

GOOD START POINT

Ten floors, two Reviver Seeds, three Pure Seeds. Let’s go.

ARGH CHRIST WHY IS THERE METAGROSS HERE

SWARM FURY CUTTER OH MY GOD OH MAN OH NO

and again

WELL THERE GOES BOTH THE REVIVER SEEDS
MY WORD

OKAY
TIME TO CHEESE IT

this is what i mean by cheesing it :p

And just before finishing the dungeon we get to level 27.

INCOMPREHENSIBLE SHRIEKING

Oh right and we completed a mission in the process :B

and all we got from that dungeon box was this lousy life seed
i
why.

Guess I deserved it for generating :B but oh well I only did it 3 times in like 6 floors!!!! and did the rest legit. Let me Live

MOVING ON: Time for the last hell dungeon, and the hardest one (so it’s said) – Destiny Tower!
This is the same as Zero Isle South, except...
-You can’t get rescued
-You can’t reveal traps by attacking their tiles
-Traps now include the Sky-exclusive traps, Grudge Trap (spawns in a bunch of Pokémon with Grudge active and gives everything else on the floor Grudge, effectively preventing you from attacking), and Random Trap (has the effect of another, random, trap, and may call on the Grudge Trap as one).

Oof... Let’s try it.

I’ve never actually beaten it myself...
Or even attempted it.

here we go!

might it be time for Warp Scarf shenanigans?

it might be time for Warp Scarf shenanigans

maybe. I’m not sure. Smoochum doesn’t have Teleport so she can’t play the Alakazam game, but she does have Sweet Kiss and Powder Snow and Forewarn. Uh... we’ll think about it. At the very least we’ll keep on trucking at least until she picks up Powder Snow.

Powder Snow get...

oh jeez and a Pass Scarf??? that might even be more useful than the Warp Scarf even lmao
Pass Scarf, if you forgot, reflects a lot of, but not all, attacks onto an adjacent Pokémon. If you have an adjacent party member, it usually reflects it onto the party member, making it a very bad choice. If you’re alone, though, it basically rebounds many, many attacks onto the attacker – a complete lifesaver. It reflects things like Fury Swipes and Doubleslap and that’s just amazing in my book. Only downside is you don’t get experience if an enemy is killed with a reflected attack, otherwise it’d be the best thing ever lmao.

PASS SCARF & POWDER SNOW LETS GO
… the combo was broken and I beat the monster house lmao

Pass Scarf & Powder Snow & Sweet Kiss is proving to be very effective. Hopefully it will remain this way. ¼ of the way there...

1/3....

POWDER SNOW GO

… halfway there...

floor 55... we beat the record of zero isle south...

DIEEEEEEE

we made it... goodness

2/3 done...

… 25 floors left...

… 20 floors...

… 15...

… 10... and I’m out of Powder Snow PP and Max Elixirs... so I ended up using some Warp Scarfing to get out of bad situations from time to time. I’m glad I picked it up, even if I didn’t get to abuse it like in Purity Forest.

i
i made i-

OH SHIT THERES ANOTHER FLOOR

but it wasnt hard

Oh, hello!

”Across time and space... one heart...”
Mini Gaga: (Is this the Legendary Pokémon Arceus who created everything...?)

WHAT IS IT GONNA ATTACK ME OH GOD OH MAN

Or we could just get... this?
Space Globe doubles the power of the holder’s moves, a great item if we weren’t basically done with the game lol. I couldn’t even use it for Kecleon since it has to be a hold item, and I need the Golden Mask.

… and that’s it.

On to Kecleon, in a minute. A few loose ends to tie up first. First, Merritt wanted me to show Origin Forme Giratina and Sky Forme Shaymin, which are in this game.

So with a Gracidea...

well first off, hello Origin Forme Giratina, you sure exist, but also...

… by using the Gracidea on Shaymin we can get Sky Forme Shaymin which is. Well I actually really like Skymin but I don’t really care about it in this game in particular lol. Just was asked by Merritt to show these guys off, so that’s about it.
Apparently Skymin constantly has double speed though...? I... did not know that was a thing.

And time for the last evolutions of the update:

Now that we have our items from all the missions we can finally do this.

Now for the last recruit. Jirachi’s all set and raring to go for this. Kecleon is actually easier to get in this game than in PMD1 because it maxes at a 0.5% recruit rate (1/500) instead of 0.1% (1/1000), even if it requires a lot more work to prep for due to needing Fast Friend & one of the recruitment items (still not sure about Amber Tear vs Golden Mask, but I used Golden Mask because that’s how I got Kecleon before.) Kecleon Shops are also just more common in this game than in PMD1 for whatever reason.

So let me show off the Alti-Patented 10-Step Plan to Successfully Get a Kecleon...

Step 1: Locate a shop.

Step 2: Find and camp out by the stairs.

Step 3: Boost evasion to max. I have never once seen a Double Team TM in this game (I don’t think), and I’m not sure if it even exists, so we’re using the Evasion Orb instead, but do what you want. Stats have 10 stages in this game rather than 6, so I brought 10 Evasion Orbs and used them all.

Step 4: Boost defenses to max. For Jirachi, this uses Cosmic Power. (I usually don’t have a method of boosting defense for other Pokémon, and just happened to get lucky with Jirachi.) Again, this will take 10 uses instead of 6.

Step 5: The Violent Seed boosts the consumer’s attack stats to max and is not a hard item to find, being available in some early-game dungeons. Go nuts!

Step 6: Remove the darkness from the floor so you can actually see the whole screen.

Step 7: Make the enemies visible even without X-Ray Specs.

Step 8: Equip the Golden Mask.

Step 9: Use a Trawl Orb to draw all items, including shop items, to you.

Step 10: Get set to mow down Kecleon as they approach.

I won’t be showing much here – except I will be counting the number of thievery attempts I make as well as the number of Kecleon I mow down each time before being forced to leave the floor for whatever reason (running out of steps, Kecleon get through my defenses and kill me, etc...).
Remember: Kecleon is 1 in 500 here.

63 on the first attempt before I get the message that basically says “leave now or you’re dead”.

30 on the 2nd, for a total of 93...

68 on the 3rd, total 161...

this happened in the middle of that attempt above, amazing

they actually did it the absolute madmen
… okay, as it turns out i cant fight after getting revived due to losing my boosts lol. So we reset! That was 39 for the 4th, bringing us up to 200...

104 on the 5th, up to 304...

125 on the 6th, up to 409...

I don’t even need to go over there to know it’s a Kecleon Shop lol

58 on the 7th, up to 467...

… I accidentally stepped on a Wonder Tile and got rid of all the boosts. Lol let’s go again.
Got 18 here, up to 485 on this 8th attempt...

… oof. There we go. That’s game. 9th attempt.
This was the 29th one killed in this run, for a total of 514.
Giratina93 suggested the name Meltan because apparently the Meltan issue stemmed from Kecleon somehow?? idk I don’t play Go. But it seems fitting enough.

… and now let’s get the hell out of dodge.

So with that... the game is complete.

Let’s check out the adventure log, shall we?

The missing bit is about the number of Friend Rescues we took, which we haven’t done any of it and I don’t really care about.

The missing bits are about sending Sky Gifts (which we didn’t do) and hatching Eggs (which I also didn’t do).
No idea what the “record number of one-floor victories” is about. Anyone have any ideas?

… plot stuff and Special Episodes...

… Special Episodes and the Seven Treasures...

… recognition of the mazes and Zero Isle...

… and a variety of legendary recruits.

… wait a minute, what does that first bit of the Adventure Log say? “Pokémon joined you: 490”? Shouldn’t it be 492?
It turns out I forgot to evolve Duskull [whose evolution i put in the last update bc lol everything is out of order], so that’s one, but...

wait what wheres 426
okay, apparently that’s grumpig, and I need to get it by... evolving a spoink... which I don’t have... and comes at level 13

FFFFFFFFFFFFU-

okay, let’s do that
it’s the actual final thing of the run
(I can’t believe this lmao)

SPOINK IS RARE IN MARINE RESORT THIS TOOK LONGER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE FOR THE LAST THING IN THE GAME
But that’s it, then. The last recruit of the game, for real this time...
Named Porky.
Still gotta level it up, so I go to Spacial Rift.

it wanted to join my team without me even using recruitment items and theres something uniquely angering about that

WOW
W O W
THIS WAS LITERALLY THE NEXT THING I FOUGHT LMAO

THE GAME IS MOCKING ME IN OUR FINAL MOMENTS

All right, so...

… we’ve got our Grumpig. That’s the last evolution of the run.

So the run’s over! … Well, almost. One more thing.

So... hands up. Did anyone remember this?
From November 1, 2017, in update 9: Amp Plains...

We got something sent to us by “the guest over there”. It's an Egg but as per my rules I'm going to like... not bother with it :B
… yep this 11 MONTH OLD PLOT POINT is finally referenced again! I left it there because keeping it there prevents other Eggs from getting put there and I didn’t want to have to deal with more of them. Well, we’ve already got all the Pokémon, so let’s finally hatch this thing!!! Why not?

Chansey: Huh...? The Egg...
Is it...? Could it be...? Is it close to hatching?
Could it...?!
Will it...?!
Huh...? What?
The Egg... hatched!
I’d be mad as hell if it didn’t.

Sounds good to me! :p

Oh? The Snubbull wants to join your team! ♪ What will you do?
Oh, what the hell, let’s take it lol. We’re at the end. It doesn’t matter, I already got everything else.
I didn’t nickname it, though. Maybe I should have. Oh well.

Here we stand at the end of the game. 230 adventures, 165:34:14. So after one year, one month and three days of real time, six days, twenty-one hours, and thirty-four minutes of game time (I used the pause key a lot while transcribing dialogue), and a ridiculous 4557 screenshots, we are now looking at a complete copy of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.

So... what’s next?

Well, first off, even though the run’s over, feel free to comment on it and everything – I’m down to have discussions about the game! Lol.

Second, there are now archive links in the OP to every page of this thread, in case the vgy images ever disappear.

Third, as you probably know because King Feraligatr has already started playing it, I’m not doing Gates to Infinity, and more likely than not I won’t being doing Super either. I’d like to, really – don’t get me wrong – it’s just that I need to take a big long break from the Internet and games for a while and focus on myself. While the MD LPs are fun, they don’t really let me do that. I need some time to myself. Maybe I’ll be back for Super and maybe not, I can’t make any promises yet. I’ll be around on Discord and the forum occasionally but this is probably it for the LP side of things – one year and 9 months after I started this project we must now bring it to a close, for me. I’ve enjoyed going through this again overall, though.

And last but not least... thank you all again for your dedication to this run, for the nickname suggestions (even if I didn’t always take them), for the fan missions, for the discussions about the game. Thanks for keeping up with it and talking to me in Discord and generally enjoying it, that is always nice to see. I’ll see you around in the Gates to Infinity thread and in Discord from time to time.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I might have a bright sunrise over a dark night to catch...

Excellent job on finishing this LP up, Alti. It's kind of sad to see it end and this definitely feels like an end of an era (and it is). However, you deserve the break after all the hell you've gone through (although I wish I could've given you more! >:D). I know I came in late, but it's been nice seeing the stuff you've posted after I came into the scene. I wish you luck with the rest of your life.

As for all of you here, I'll see in you in Gates to Infinity.
