Week 18: Defog Gligar

Gligar @ Eviolite
Ability: Immunity
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Earthquake
- Knock Off / U-turn / Taunt / Toxic

Previously one of the few viable defoggers in SUMO, Gligar was granted a gift with the release of the Defog tutor in USUM; It could finally use Immunity with Defog! As such, Gligar remains one of the most popular Defoggers, finally able to beat Registeel and Bronzong in the hazard game. Roost is for recovery, Defog is why you're using Gligar, Earthquake is for STAB, and the last utility slot is incredibly customizable.

reserving rhyperior

Rhyperior @ Icium Z
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 244 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Ice Punch

In most cases, Gligar can wall Rhyperior for days and stall it with Roost, being 2x weak to Ice, but with this set you can nuke Gligar with Subzero Slammer, doing at least 84%, meaning you can kill it(69% of the time)as long as rocks are in the opponent's field. This set also allows Rhyperior to OHKO Virizion and Shaymin, so it's not just for Gligar.
16+ Atk Rhyperior Subzero Slammer (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 280-332 (83.8 - 99.4%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
16+ Atk Rhyperior Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 152-180 (45.5 - 53.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
16+ Atk Rhyperior Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 76-90 (22.7 - 26.9%) -- 97.8% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock (before roosting)

0 Atk Gligar Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 100-121 (23 - 27.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

Reserving Registeel

Registeel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Ice Punch
- Curse
- Rest
- Iron Head

Curse lets Registeel turn in to a really threatening late game win con and after 1 boost it can set up on Gligar, Rest lets Registeel stay healthy while boosting because its very suspectible to chip damage, finally Ice Punch can 2HKO Gligar after just one boost.

0 Atk Gligar Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 120-144 (32.9 - 39.5%) -- 15.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 Atk Gligar Earthquake vs. +1 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 80-96 (21.9 - 26.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

+1 252+ Atk Registeel Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 180-216 (53.8 - 64.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

steelix-mega.png

Steelix-Mega @ Steelixite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Curse
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock

Gligar usually hard walls Mega Steelix and prevents it from keeping rocks up. However, with this set, you can use Curse as Gligar comes in and you have a chance to 2HKO with Heavy Slam at +1. If Gligar doesn't have Taunt then it's easy, just get off a second Curse and you break Gligar easily. If it has Taunt, you can either keep using Heavy Slam and Earthquake when it Roosts until it eventually runs out of Roost pp or try to get a second Curse up when Gligar is inclined to use Roost. Meanwhile, Gligar's Earthquake is doing very pitiful damage to +1 Metal Snake, only achieving a possible 6HKO. Awesome set and nice lure.
+1 252+ Atk Steelix-Mega Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 153-180 (45.8 - 53.8%) -- 43.4% chance to 2HKO
+1 252+ Atk Steelix-Mega Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Eviolite Gligar (grounded): 127-151 (38 - 45.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252+ Atk Steelix-Mega Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 204-240 (61 - 71.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 Atk Gligar Earthquake vs. +1 252 HP / 0 Def Steelix-Mega: 56-68 (15.8 - 19.2%) -- possible 6HKO
0 Atk Gligar Earthquake vs. +2 252 HP / 0 Def Steelix-Mega: 42-50 (11.8 - 14.1%) -- possible 8HKO

Week 19: Defensive Milotic

Milotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Bold Nature
- Recover
- Scald
- Haze
- Refresh
Milotic is RU's premiere bulky water! With the rising popularity of Refresh on this Pokemon, its become incredibly troublesome for some builds to break, typically ones that relied on luring it with Toxic. Recover provides Milotic with reliable recovery, Scald provides it with STAB and allows it to threaten a burn. Haze allows it to reliably beat Dragon Dance Feraligatr, paired with the heavy physical defense investment.

nidoqueen.png

Nidoqueen (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Stealth Rock

Modest Nidoqueen isn't seen too much and nobody uses Thunderbolt on it anymore, so this does a decent job at luring Milotic. Nidoqueen outspeeds Milotic and has about a 70% chance of 2HKOing with Thunderbolt from full. You should be trying to hit Milotic on the switch-in, but if Milotic manages to live two Thunderbolts and doesn't use Recover, it does about 73% max with Scald.
252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoqueen Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Milotic: 195-231 (49.4 - 58.6%) -- 69.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Milotic Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoqueen: 198-234 (61.6 - 72.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

I really wanted to post one of SD Gatr, Normalium Cloyster or Trapper Araq, but in all honesty, neither of the aforementioned sets are lures, given that they are all standard sets. Instead, Moltres was chosen.

Moltres @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Fire Blast
- Roost
- Toxic / U-Turn

U-Turn helps with bluffing scarf, while Toxic is a nice utility move in general, most importantly luring P2 and Cress.

Hurricane+Skystrike KOs Milotic after rocks:
252 SpA Moltres Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Milotic: 135-160 (34.2 - 40.6%) -- 53.5% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Moltres Supersonic Skystrike (185 BP) vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Milotic: 228-268 (57.8 - 68%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Unless you get the minimal roll on both attacks (which is a 1/256 chance), you kill milo with rocks up:
34.2 + 57.8 = 92 + 12 (SR) - 6 (Lefties) = 98
The bigger fear is obviously missing Hurricane, but sooner or later you will hit one, at which point you will then be able to blow the Z and pick up the kill.

Wandering Wobbuffet

formerly Based Honker

Aerodactyl @ Rockium Z
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hone Claws
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Tail
- Ice Fang/Crunch/Roost?

Just you're typical throw a STAB z move on something and suddenly it kills an otherwise good answer. (Fuck I hate SM for this shit) Also hits Rhyperior and Gligar for good damage although I guess Crunch can be used for Bronzong if you really want to. Also the accuracy boost will help every move on the set which is nice.

+1 252 Atk Aerodactyl Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 172 Def Milotic: 378-445 (95.9 - 112.9%) -- 75% chance to OHKO (Guaranteed with rocks/a spike obviously)

+1 252 Atk Aerodactyl Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 136 Def Milotic: 393-463 (99.7 - 117.5%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
still an ok lure if you wanna keep, but you used the wrong Milotic spread for your calc

+1 252 Atk Aerodactyl Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 176+ Def Milotic: 343-405 (87 - 102.7%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

moltres @ grassium z | pressure
timid nature | 252 spa / 4 spdef / 252 spe
flamethrower | solar beam | roost | hurricane

here's a somewhat unorthodox set for moltres, that being grassium z solar beam, which is able to lure in bulky waters and rock-types, such as milotic.
252 SpA Moltres Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Milotic: 312-368 (79.1 - 93.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
