This is Chras' first piece on Smogon, so grats to him, and thanks! Looks great 3:

Hey guys! Welcome to the newest edition of PU matchmaking, with yours truly, pancake!

All Pokemon are unable to function effectively without their checks and counters gone, which is where their teammates come in. These partners are capable of dismantling multiple Pokemon proving a threat to their teammates, providing invaluable support and thus are often seen as the heart of the team. This project aims to brainstorm various ideal and effective partners to various Pokemon that may range from metagame defining Pokemon to more underrated threats.

Every week, I will nominate a Pokemon for discussion of potential partners and submissions. During the first few days of that week, you will submit a partner for that Pokemon. During the next few days of that week, you and the community will vote on your favorite partner for said Pokemon. The person with the most votes for that week will get their submission archived. People that manage to get into the archive multiple times with good submissions will be let into the Hall of Fame!

Rules
1. If it isn't on the viability rankings, don't nominate it. Also don't nominate it if it is E-rank on the viability rankings. You can find the viability rankings here. Pokemon such as Gigalith and Meganium are not viable in the PU metagame and therefore should not be nominated.
2. Reservations are allowed, but please complete your submission within 24 hours. If you do not finish your reservation within 24 hours, then it is allowed to be taken by another user.
3. Nominate Pokemon that you have used or have knowledge of using. Do not nominate Pokemon that you think may work, but don't know if they will.
4. Explain how and why the Pokemon that you chose is a good partner for that week's Pokemon. For example, an offensive threat may want partners that weaken its checks.
5. Be nice.
6. One partner per user per week!

Have Fun!

It's time for this project to begin! For Week 1 I am nominating an offensive staple in the current PU metagame:

Stoutland @ Choice Band
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Facade
- Superpower
- Crunch / Pursuit

Stoutland is a great option for Offense, Bulky Offense, and Balance in teams where it acts as a breaker. Due to its ability, Scrappy, it is very hard to switch into its Choice Band STAB Return. It has reasonable bulk even without investment. Who will you choose to pair Stoutland with?

Yes, you have to use the Choice Band Scrappy Set. That means no Hippopotas.

Submissions for Partners end on Wednesday.

Submitting AoA Simisear

Simisear @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Fire Blast
- Grass Knot
- Knock Off
- Superpower

Fairly straightforward pairing, Simisear and Stoutland form a nice attacking core that can be very difficult for teams to switch into. Sear beats steel- and grass-types such as Metang, Probo, Tangela and Gourg-XL while Stout breaks everything else (namely waters, Altaria and Grumpig).

Swen (Swanna) @ Life Orb
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 24 Def / 252 SpA / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 29 HP / 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Scald
- Defog
- Roost

Swanna helps out stoutland a lot, for one it keeps hazards of the field, which can definitely wear Stoutland down, but what's more relevant is the checks to stoutland that Swanna pressures, which is due to it's strong special pressure and typing. As it can Ohko and 2hko most defensive checks like the physdef bulky grasses, offensive probo (def probo is a coinflip after sr) and def mawile and it's best offensive check in Monferno.

Offensive Stunfisk

Wilson Fisk (Stunfisk) @ Rindo Berry
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Discharge
- Stealth Rock
- Sludge Wave

There are three things that tend to give Stoutland the most issues: Monferno's Mach Punch, defensive grass types, and normal resists like Probopass and Mawile.
Offensive Stunfisk can cover all of these threats via its natural bulk, ground STAB, and the lure of Rindo Berry + Sludge Wave/Bomb.
Also a decent Cacturne and Leafeon lure which is nice for any team. This set will beat defensive Quilladin and Tangela 1v1 assuming you don't get slept. I would provide calcs but I'm on mobile and lazy :0

Reserving Roselia.

Jade Petals (Roselia) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis
- Spikes

Roselia provides fivethree things that Stoutland appreciate a lot:
1- Solid Focus Blast switch.
2- Hazard support, giving Stoutland a better time damaging or sweeping the opponent's team.
3- Decent Special Attack capability, damaging Physical Walls, reducing the number of checkers to Stoutland.
4- Swag Support, with black petals she can distract your foe and give a free switch to Stoutland.
5- Weed Support, so Stoutland can get high and powerup before Sweeping.

Kekturne

Kekturne (Cacturne) @ Life Orb
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 40 Atk / 252 Spa / 216 Spe
IVs: 29 HP
Rash Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Focus Blast
- Sucker Punch
- Giga Drain / Energy Ball

Stoutland is annoyed by one main thing, and that's anything that can stomach CB Return. This includes normal resists like Golem and Mawile and super bulky mons like Tangela and Gourgeist-Super. Cacturne blows all of those mons out of the water with extremely powerful special attacks, with coverage that demolishes almost everything that can stomach Returns from Stoutland. The core needs a Monferno switchin, but its a highly offensive-based core.

MixKrow

Murkrow @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 84 Atk / 172 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Brave Bird
- Heat Wave
- Sucker Punch
- Thunder Wave

Stoutland is a terror, but Mawile and Tangela laugh in its face. Murk's Heat Wave cleanly OHKOs Mawile and has a chance to to the same to Tangela after rocks.
Worried about Monferno revenging you? Murkrow outspeeds and OHKOs with Brave Bird.
Stoutland's pretty slow, but Murkrow has priority Thunder Wave to mitigate that issue, slowing down stuff like Superpower Simi(x) that can stop its rampage

The given EV spread is used to guarantee the OHKO on physically defensive Mawile, but you can run 252 Atk/4 SpA to get more damage from your STABs and still 2HKO Maw and Tangela

Shouts to Anty for bringing up Heat Wave Murkrow in Lure That Threat a few weeks ago

reserving floatzel.

Floatzel @ Life Orb
Ability: Water Veil
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 1 Atk / 30 SpA
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Baton Pass

As we all know, Stoutland tends to struggle against bulky grass types such as Tangela, Gourgeist, and gets outsped by Pokemon such as Monferno. Floatzel is a nice offensive check to all of these Pokemon while being able to keep up momentum with Stoutland with Baton Pass giving it free switch ins to hit something else hard.
