OU Uxie

[OVERVIEW]

At first glance, Uxie appears to be entirely outclassed by other Psychic-types such as Mew and Tapu Lele. However, Uxie's combination of Trick Room, Stealth Rock, and Memento gives it a defined niche on Trick Room teams, as it's able to compress roles very efficiently by acting as a Stealth Rock setter and Trick Room setter while being able to provide its team members valuable momentum with Memento. Uxie's fantastic defensive stats also allow it to survive almost any hit and set up Trick Room in most scenarios. Despite this, Uxie is only viable on dedicated Trick Room teams, as it's completely outclassed by other Psychic-types such as Mew and Latios on any standard team. Uxie is also extremely passive, as it's unable to do much damage because of its pathetic offensive stats and because it usually can't afford to run an attacking move. Uxie also faces some competition from Bronzong, which can also set up Stealth Rock and gain momentum with Explosion, but Uxie is usually the better choice because of the setup opportunities it gives with Memento.

Moves
========

Trick Room makes slower Pokemon, such as Crawdaunt and Mega Mawile, go first against faster attackers such as Greninja and Tapu Bulu. Stealth Rock is Uxie's niche over other Trick Room setters, providing key role compression. Memento is used to give Pokemon such as Alolan Marowak a chance to set up with Swords Dance, and it also ensures that a Pokemon can come in without taking damage. Magic Coat is the main option in the last slot, as it allows Uxie to bounce back Spikes from passive Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, as well as preventing double Taunt from Pokemon such as Tapu Fini. Skill Swap is also a viable option, removing abilities such as Skarmory's Sturdy and allowing Uxie to set up Stealth Rock on Mega Sableye.

Set Details
========

The given EV spread makes Uxie extremely hard to OHKO with special and physical moves. For example, Uxie is able to live Choice Specs Gengar's Shadow Ball, Alolan Marowak's Shadow Bone, and Landorus-T's Supersonic Skystrike. 0 Speed IVs are used to allow Uxie to outspeed as many Pokemon as possible under Trick Room. Uxie's only ability is Levitate, which gives it a somewhat useful Ground-type immunity. Mental Herb is used as a one-time buffer against Taunt.

Usage Tips
========

Uxie should usually set up Stealth Rock first, over Trick Room, in order to preserve Trick Room turns, but if you're facing a Pokemon that can 2HKO Uxie, such as Hoopa-U and Greninja, prioritize setting up Trick Room first. Magic Coat shouldn't be used against Stealth Rock setters such as Landorus-T, as they can predict it and just attack Uxie, but it should be used against common Spikes setters, such as Skarmory and Ferrothorn. Preserving Uxie to set up Trick Room later in the match usually isn't worth it, although if it can be done without letting a teammate take too much damage, you can do it.

Team Options
========

Uxie is only viable on dedicated Trick Room teams, so powerful, slow wallbreakers such as Crawdaunt, Reuniclus, Alolan Marowak, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Mawile make for good teammates, as they can take advantage of Trick Room to the fullest potential. Uxie is usually only setting up Trick Room once a match, so other Trick Room setters such as Magearna, Cofagrigus, and Cresselia also make for good teammates.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Uxie has a large movepool with a lot of utility options, but most of them are impossible to fit into a moveslot due to the nature of Trick Room.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Powerful Wallbreakers**: Mega Heracross and Hoopa-U easily OHKO Uxie with Pin Missile and Hyperspace Fury respectively. Other Pokemon that can 2HKO Uxie such as Ash-Greninja, Alolan Marowak, Mega Charizard Y, and Bisharp can easily dispatch of it.

**Mega Sableye**: Mega Sableye is capable of bouncing back Stealth Rock and Memento thanks to Magic Bounce, but it can't stop Uxie from setting up Trick Room and must be wary of Skill Swap.

I'd like to suggest a spread of 252 HP / 116 Def / 140 SpD with a Relaxed nature and 0 Speed ivs:

252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 116+ Def Uxie: 296-350 (83.6 - 98.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak-Alola Shadow Bone vs. 252 HP / 116+ Def Uxie: 290-344 (81.9 - 97.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Crunch vs. 252 HP / 116+ Def Uxie: 290-344 (81.9 - 97.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage (can OHKO after sandstorm damage which is great for maximizing TR turns - one of the reasons it's not max def)

Those are the important 3 instances. Uxie is still able to setup on pre-ash greninja and threats like specs gengar:

252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 140 SpD Uxie: 236-282 (66.6 - 79.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 140 SpD Uxie: 282-332 (79.6 - 93.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

and another cool irrelevant calc that might be worth highlighting - 252+ Atk Landorus-Therian Supersonic Skystrike (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 116+ Def Uxie: 225-265 (63.5 - 74.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO just the fact that uxie can still reliably set up versus a lot of z move users

The trade off is being unable to set up on hoopa-u, which luckily hasn't been all that common recently. Magearna is able to set up trick room on most variants on Hoopa-U save for banded fire punch, ash-greninja can be dealt with by magearna and other archetype staples when they're under trick room and shouldn't be transformed since uxie will most often be a lead, and without a physically defensive Uxie alolan marowak can be a huge pain to deal with, as it forces the team to rely on mmawile's and crawdaunt's priority and gets a free kill everytime it gets a matchup versus uxie, magearna, or cresselia

I would also add in Tapu Bulu as a trick room partner, as I've seen it utilized effectively on the archetype a few times. You could mention Cofagrigus as a trick room setter, as it plays a role similar to magearna in being able to set up trick room while additionally functioning as a sweeper under it.

imo, skill swap is worth a slash on the main set - breaking skarmory's sturdy and dugtrio's sash is so helpful for TR teams and magic coat shouldn't be used to prevent rocks, since ultimately you never prevent rocks, only delay them a turn, and you risk getting in KO range if they attack you without performing your function. Mention how magic coat shouldn't be used to bounce stealth rock, but rather Spikes from passive setters like Ferrothorn and Spore from Smeargle leads. Mentioning bouncing double taunts is good - instance can happen often against Tapu Fini and locking it out of defog is nice

Finally, in the overview I'd mention that uxie faces competition from bronzong but wins out due to Memento being better for TR teams than explosion - TR teams are often searching to reduce damage from priority and create setup opportunities for powerful sweepers that abuse priority like SD crawdaunt rather than chip damage

Remove Skill Swap from OO because it's slashed on the main set.

You mention in the powerful wallbreaker section of C&C that Alolan Marowak is able to OHKO it with Shadow Bone, yet Uxie is EVed to avoid the OHKO, so that doesn't really make sense. Obviously keep the mention of Marowak, but remove that part where it says that it OHKOs.

Mention how Mega Sableye needs to be wary if Uxie carries Skill Swap, for obvious reasons.

Good job QC 1/3

Hey, idk about what QC thinks about this, but I'd also mention Crescelia in the overview as a Pokémon that provides competition for Uxie, since it has superior bulk, Lunar Dance and reliable recovery. Uxie's niche over it is pretty much Stealth Rock, which isn't that big of a deal, since some Trick Room users (like Alolan Marowak and Mega Mawile) can get rocks up if need be.

I would disagree with this, in that Uxie is often used in conjunction with Cresselia, since they're 2 of the most consistent Trick Room setters and pure TR teams need multiple. The competition uxie faces from bronzong is that they both lack recovery so are forced to fill similar roles on tr teams of pure suicide rocks setter in comparison to cress being able to use its recovery and bulk to set up trick room multiple times
