OU Weavile

[OVERVIEW]

Weavile is an impressive attacker, graced with high speed, excellent power, and an incredible STAB combination that makes it a generally hard Pokemon to consistently switch into. While Weavile has a rather bare movepool, powerful STAB attacks as well as priority in Ice Shard give it all it needs to be a functional threat. However, Weavile has very underwhelming bulk and a poor defensive typing, which is only exacerbated by its Stealth Rock weakness. Finally, it faces slight competition with Mamoswine, which boasts slightly higher base Attack and a similarly fantastic STAB combination. It also has much more defensive utility than Weavile does thanks to its decent bulk and better typing.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Icicle Crash is Weavile's hardest-hitting Ice-type STAB attack with slightly imperfect accuracy and can be used to prey on common threats such as Zygarde and Tangrowth. Knock Off is Weavile's hardest-hitting overall STAB attack and has the added benefit of removing items. Ice Shard revenge kills threats such as Landorus-T and Zygarde as well as weakened, faster threats such as Tapu Koko and Choice Scarf Latios. Pursuit is used to trap common threats that Weavile forces out such as Gengar, Alolan Marowak, Hoopa-U, and Tapu Lele.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack and Speed along with a Jolly nature capitalize on Weavile's offensive capabilities. A Choice Band drastically increases Weavile's immediate power at the small expense on not being able to switch moves. Life Orb, however, still bolsters Weavile's damage output with the added benefit of allowing it to switch moves, but the recoil is very unappealing. Pressure ensures Weavile doesn't pick up unwanted items such as Black Sludge or a Choice item if it were to lose its own.

Usage Tips
========

Due to its lackluster bulk, Weavile should not be directly switched into battle; instead it should be brought in via U-turn or Volt Switch or after a Pokemon has been KOed. Weavile can be used early-game as a potent wallbreaker to apply immediate pressure on the opposing team. It could also be utilized as a late-game cleaner, thanks to its impressive speed and power. If used late-game it's best to use Knock Off liberally to weaken its checks and counters early on. It's also a generally safe move to use.

Team Options
========

Jirachi, Rotom-W, Mega Manectric, and Tapu Koko are all great partners, as Jirachi offers U-turn as well as Stealth Rock and Healing Wish support, while the latter three provide Volt Switch and threaten bulky Water-types such as Tapu Fini and Toxapex. Other Dark-types such as Bisharp and Ash-Greninja form formidable Dark-type cores with Weavile to overpower Dark-resistant Pokemon. Teammates that can handle Keldeo are greatly appreciated, as it resists both of Weavile's STAB types. Some examples include Latios, Tapu Fini, Amoonguss, and Latias, the last of which also offers Healing Wish support. Mew, Latios, Mega Scizor, and Tapu Fini are all viable entry hazard removers that can remove entry hazards for Weavile. Teammates that can handle Steel-types such as Magearna, Mega Mawile, Mega Scizor, and Ferrothorn are all good teammates. These teammates include Heatran, Magnezone, and Mega Charizard Y.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Low Kick targets opposing Dark-types such as Bisharp, Greninja, and Mega Gyarados as well as hitting Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Heatran harder. Swords Dance along with Icium Z is plausible, as it gives Weavile a one-time nuke to break past its checks such as Clefable, Celesteela, and Ferrothorn.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Priority**: Due to Weavile's fraility, common priority attacks such as Zygarde's Extreme Speed and Mega Scizor's Bullet Punch can pick it off.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Terrakion and Keldeo can tank a hit from Weavile and KO it with their Fighting-type STAB attacks. Terrakion can potentially gain an Attack boost thanks to Justified if it comes in on Knock Off, and Keldeo resists both of Weavile's STAB types.

**Pokemon That Resist Weavile's STAB Types**: Pokemon that resist Weavile's STAB types such as Keldeo, Mega Mawile, Klefki, Magearna, and Mega Gyarados all serve as decent switch-ins and can retaliate with their own powerful STAB attacks, many of which bear a good chance to KO Weavile.

**Faster Pokemon**: Faster Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Mega Alakazam, Mega Manectric, and Choice Scarf users such as Keldeo, Terrakion, and Nihilego all outpace Weavile and threaten it with their powerful coverage.

**Bulky Pokemon**: Bulky Pokemon such as Toxapex, Mega Scizor, Clefable, Skarmory, Tapu Fini, and Ferrothorn all have enough bulk to consistently stomach Weavile's attacks and threaten it with their own super effective STAB attacks. In Toxapex's case, it can burn Weavile with Scald.

I think you should mention that Low Kick hits more than just Dark types. It hits Heatran, Ferrothorn and Magnezone super effectively, all of which can stomach a Knock Off. It also chunks Magearna better and does more to a bunch of random things like Ice-types. I would also mention Tyranitar as a target, too. Ferrothorn is the most important thing to mention imo.

I also wouldn't mention Greninja as an option for Dark spam as Protean Greninja doesn't use Dark Pulse that often.

Also Scarf Garchomp is hardly an answer to Weavile, as it takes 95.8% minimum from Ice Shard and is OHKOd 75% of the time.

Regarding low kick, heatran and magnezone isn't going to particularly enjoy coming in on weavile repeatedly over the course of a match, especially without any recovery. i'd also say that they shouldn't even be switching in on weavile at all since they aren't very physically bulky unless invested. ferrothorn is good considering it has usually leech seed to keep healthy. tyranitar is also a decent mention, but icicle crash hits it pretty hard unless you're really bent on getting the KO.

Dark Pulse Greninja is actually viable for hitting Gross, Rachi, and some other things harder but alright.

Kinda minor thing, but when you mention PJab it's worth mentioning that it also means Weavile doesn't need to risk Crash's 10% miss rate vs. Bulu.

When you say "hits Clefable much harder" re: Iron Tail, make sure to specify how it KOs PhysDef Clef variants if they come in on Icicle Crash (which PJab needs two max rolls to do), which is useful 'cause it means they can't then nail Weavile with Moonblast. Man, this move is so much more useful when Mega Diancie is everywhere...

I'd still mention Heatran as a Low Kick target 'cause Z crystals mean it can't really put it under quite as heavy pressure with KOff as it could last gen (deals >50% to it assuming no HP investment, meaning it can pretty consistently force Weavile out if given opportunities) and 'cause OHKOing offensive variants after Rocks is really huge. OHKOing is just nice 'cause at the end of the day it is still something which is going to come out after Weavile has KO'd something, and given that Tran is really dangerous if you don't account for it carefully this is definitely something that you take into consideration when running Low Kick. Same w/ Tar really; the ability to one-shot it is just generally useful to prevent it using free switches from KOs to turn Weavile into nuke fodder--especially given that there isn't really much that enjoys taking a CB Stone Edge or Crunch from it. I wouldn't mention Magearna here 'cause it is still really pitiful versus even uninvested variants.

Maybe this is just me, but I think Pursuit could warrant a bump up to moves just 'cause it's just a really useful move in general in a meta where Gengar and Alolan Wak are common and the only real competition for the role comes from Tar (nailed by Focus Blast from Gar+can't trap Gross), Alolan Muk (only really worth it on fatter builds) and random non-STABers like Mega Meta/Zor. Mention Hoopa-U as another target for it too 'cause if its taken SR damage it has a solid chance of being one-shotted if you successfully catch it.

Mention CB in OO 'cause the lack of LO recoil is nice for longevity. Also add Foul Play in there for its ability to one-shot Mega Metagross (101.9 - 121.9%) as opposed to 2HKOing it like KOff does, especially now that more are forgoing BP 'cause no more Phero.

Trapping Tapu Lele, Gengar, Tornadus-T, Latios, Mew, Alolan Marowak,....is way too good to pass up, considering a lot of the 'mons I mentioned were not relevant 2-3 months ago but are now rapidly picking up in usage. Poison Jab is very niche: Tapu Fini having its item removed in general makes it very easy for teammates to deal with, Azumarill is not common, Clefable doesn't like taking Knock Off and Icicle Crashes later in the game especially if it's Choice Band Weavile,....speaking of Choice Band, Dark- and Ice-moves are broken this generation and there are very little drawbacks in locking yourself into a strong ass Knock Off or Icicle Crash.

Please remove Iron Tail from OO.

Not QC; implement what you feel like, or wait for QC to comment.

* While it's movepool is rather bare, it has a few tools such as Poison Jab and Swords Dance, giving it all it needs to threaten a variety of builds.
* Has access to powerful priority in Ice Shard to revenge kill prominent threats such as Landorus-T and Zygarde.
Since Poison Jab and Swords Dance are being removed, they don't need to be mentioned. I'd also mention at least a couple more prominent threats that are weak to Ice, such as Garchomp, Dragonite, and Salamence.

Moves
========

* Icicle Crash is Weavile's hardest hitting Ice STAB with slightly imperfect accuracy and preys on common threats such as Zygarde and Tangrowth.
* Knock Off is Weavile's hardest hitting overall STAB and should be what you're clicking most often.
* Ice Shard revenge kills threats such as Landorus-T and Zygarde, as well as weakened, faster threats.
* Poison Jab rounds off Weavile's coverage by hitting Clefable, Azumarill, and Tapu Fini harder than it's STABs do, all of which can otherwise wall it. It's also a safer way to hit Tapu Bulu rather than relying on the inaccurate Icicle Crash.
* Swords Dance can be used to transform Weavile into a deadly sweeper, but its frailty usually holds it back from using it proficiently.

* Pursuit is another option to trap common threats that Weavile forces out such as Gengar, Alolan Marowak, Hoopa-U, and Mega Alakazam.
Again, more Ice-weak targets could use a mention here. PJab and SD should be moved to OO, if not omitted entirely; Vertex pretty much said everything about PJab. SD is atrocious, Weavile can't afford to set up and attempt a sweep due its nonexistent bulk.

Set Details
========
* Maximum Attack and Speed capitalize on Weavile's offensive capabilities.
* A Jolly Nature makes good use of Weavile's great Speed
These two points could be merged.

Usage Tips
========
* When using Swords Dance, only attempt to sweep after it's checks and counters have been thoroughly weakened.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
* Iron Tail bears a good chance to KO Clefable after switching into an Icicle Crash unlike Poison Jab and hits Mega Mawile much harder than its STABs.
* Low Kick targets opposing Dark-types such as Bisharp, Greninja, and Mega Gyarados as well as hitting Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Heatran harder.
* Choice Band is an option for much more immediate power, but Weavile generally appreciates being able to switch moves.
Focus Sash and maybe Dread/Icicle Plate could be added.

Checks and Counters

**Pokemon that Resist Weavile's STABs**: Pokemon that resist Weavile's STABs such as Keldeo, Mega Mawile, Klefki, Magearna, and Mega Gyarados all serve as decent switch-ins and can retaliate with their own powerful STABs, many of which bear a good chance to KO Weavile.
This third section could be Fairy-types since Keldeo is already mentioned under Fighting-types, and Mega Gyarados isn't particularly common.

Most importantly, I'd consider giving Mega Scizor its own section; it's the only viable priority user that takes jack from any of Weavile's attacks, can Roost off the damage, and OHKO with Bullet Punch.

item order should be cb / lo

cb is overall better in this meta because weav is really good with pursuit atm and with all the hazard stacking, it just kills itself on hazards + lo damage so often and with things like magearna + mega sciz being all over the place, you've just got common mons that take any hit and force more lo recoil.

Remove "its reliance on Life Orb" from the Overview considering that it primarily runs CB now.

Pursuit is another option to trap common threats that Weavile forces out such as Gengar, Alolan Marowak, Hoopa-U, and Mega Alakazam Tapu Lele.
I'd replace Zam with Lele just because Zam technically still has the upper hand on Weavile and can always opt to go for Focus Blast to pick you off, or an HP Fire if Weavile is weakened. Lele gets shredded by both of its STAB moves because of its low defense so more often than not it will try to switch out on it.

Mention Mew as a Defogger teammate as well. It also has decent defensive synergy being able to soft check Scarf Keldeo and Mega Medi which can be annoying w/ priority.

Good otherwise. Make sure to update the title next time someone gives you a check. QC 2/3

Everything looks solid here. I would swap X with Y since Zard Y is more relevant and it often will run Roost.

In Checks and Counters add Mega Manectric under faster threats - I get it doesn't OHKO without Stealth Rock, so if you want to mention "after rocks" I'm cool with that.
