What do you spend the most spare time doing outside of gaming/forums?

I'm kinda interested to know what kinds of things people do with their spare time when not on here/in the world of videogames, so I thought I'd post this.

I spend a lot of time watching both foriegn and British dramas as well as anime, and I have developed a habit of running most of the time when I'm outdoors due to walking being kinda uncomfortable for some reason. I also do a lot of reading and listening to a vast array of music that isn't English club or screamo--with my favorite genres being jazz, classical, classic pop, jpop, jrock, big band, french traditional, western rock, alternative and oriental traditional--and I have also recently taken an interest in drawing and have started learning Japanese.

I don't spend much time socialising as I don't really have the initiative to, although I am generally chatty once the ice has been broken and enjoy talking to people who are in their mid/late twenties and early/mid thirties in addition to people of about my age and younger. In particular I like talking to people from other countries as I can learn about other cultures that way while also generally getting along with said people.

maybe sometimes i watch stuff on netflix, am interested in psychology and either watch documentaries on different psychological things or i watch shows based around a person with different mental disorders (i.e. sherlock's asperger's, dexter's antisocial disorder, etc) to get a better understanding of how people interpret what they read online about those types of people

  • Drawing and painting. There's a painting atelier offering art courses not far from where I live.
  • Reading. I wouldn't say that I have a favorite genre, it mostly depends on my current mood.
  • Listening to music. Again, I don't really have a favorite genre, it always depends on my current mood.
  • Learning languages. I'm currently able to both speak and write 5 languages: Luxembourgish, German, French, English and I'm currently also learning Spanish.

Excuse me Sherlock is a 'high functioning sociopath'. He's said so, many times.

Nitpicking aside, I tend to spend a LOT of time on the computer and/or playing games, but when I'm not I tend to be out playing tennis. Other hobbies include sleeping and eating... and I suppose I play the flute as well. Should probably do that more. I do some form of karate/MMA on Monday nights, but that's now clashing with a uni course I'm doing after school, so I'll probably have to drop it and pick it up again at the end of the year. I'm also the main participant in a text-based RP one of my friends is running over skype, with the plan to drag it out for at least a full year (provided we don't die), and one of my other friends is trying to get me involved in the Roleplaying Society at the uni I'm going to.

As for school related things, I'm basically holding up our year level's debating team on my own. Our school's program leaves a lot of the 'learning how to debate' up to the kids themselves and experience, so I'm trying to promote and attitude shift with the teachers and other students that pushes everyone to actually learn how to put together a well rounded argument as a team. I'm also in the chess club, but that's more of a passing interest; I don't play that much outside of school, and I tend to lose a lot from winning positions by making silly mistakes. I'm also in the school concert band (with my manly flute - the only one, compare to about 6 trombones), but a lot of the dedicated musicians graduated last year, so we only have enough people to make one band and a lot of the pieces are below my skill level.

Now that I look at it, it appears I'm doing a lot more than just computer things. I'm going to have to manage my time better to survive my last year at school :/

Edit: Oh and reading. I read a butt-load, and it's a massive time sink.

Edit 2: I also try to write occasionally in my spare time. Usually it's a poem or occasionally a short story, as it's much easier to get the motivation for them and then finish them off in one go, but I also have a novel in the works that probably won't be done for several years. And then I get to start on the rest of the series :D

Might see if I can post some of my poems somewhere; they're a bit free-form/obscure/depressing though.

At my school we have debating forced onto us, and we all absolutely loathe it xD. They have the attitude to it that you're looking for but they go about it in completely the wrong way, so it just feels like a complete and utter chore. The debate team I've been put on literally consists of one dumb guy leading the entire argument with me interjecting every now and again and everyone else just feeding us to the dogs lmao.

I can completely sympathise with you here. Our school lacks a concert band, but it has an orchestra which is split into so-called "secionals" (but instead of actual sectionals they just split the strings into one room and the concert band instruments into the other) for half of the rehearsal and then sounds completely awful when it plays together. The skill gap between the competent players with actual orchestral/band experience (such as myself and around half of the people on first parts) and the other players (literally 3/4 of the band) was just so huge that it is a chore to play in the orchestra due to the low skill level of the pieces and the poor quality output, and as a result I lost all of my motivation to play in it and dropped out. I probably shouldn't have 'cause there is no replacement horn, but idc as it felt like I was wasting two hours of my Friday anyway when I could be doing coursework or something actually interesting instead.

I'm really interested to read them. Free-form poetry is really enjoyable to read, and c'mon since when was good poetry not depressing xD

I spend that time mostly on speedcubing, which basically is solving the Rubik's cube as fast as possible. I also play basketball. Don't really do anything else than that and Pokemon.

Working and spending time with my family. I occasionally lust after extra sleep but never really get it, so sleep is not at the top of my list unfortunately.

When I'm not working or taking care of my son any free time is for hobbies such as reading and games.

It might sound bad, but I love my life. The joys of being a responsible adult are under rated.

Our debating is voluntary only and the teachers have still managed to fuck up administration to the point where everyone feels like they're being pressured into it and doesn't want to do it, which is, again, something I'm trying to help fix.

I was going to drop out of concert band at the end of last year, but then they made me music captain, so I pretty much didn't have a choice. That probably sounds 'prestigious', but given our year level's lack of musical talent I was one of only 2 options and the other guy was already captain of something else.

And I guess I'll make a poetry thread in Smeargle's Studio at some point; unless you can think of somewhere better to put it? Either way I'll send you a link.

Apart from schoolwork, most of my time spent not with Pokemon is between listening to and learning about music, huge EDM fan, and running / exercising. I've been a runner for the past 5 years or so, it's always really fun to say that my sport is someone else's punishment. My last season of high school running is coming up next month so I'm looking forward to that. I don't have too much to do these days but I enjoy what I do.

I mostly spend my time talking to friends or playing sports. I played basketball this past season and I'll be playing baseball this season. Believe it or not, I actually don't game that much compared to middle school. I'm also not obsessed with the forums.

Lots of school. Eating good food with friends. Social Media stuff like Reddit / Twitter / Instagram / Snapchat / Youtube. Sometimes anime but not so much recently. Oh yeah and music! Veela and Laura Brehm <3

Basically put a good majority of my free time into Smash / Metroid / cartridge Pokemon, but I guess that's gaming isn't it.

When I'm not playing Zelda / Pokemon / Ace Attorney / Layton or hanging around here, I really like listening to music, just like a couple other people itt. I especially dig progressive rock (Pink Floyd, Rush, early Genesis, stuff like that, early Queen counts too), but a lot of classic / alternative rock is fine honestly. I also spend a lot of time reading up on and learning more about the bands and genres I listen to--mostly because it's a pretty effective way to broaden your horizons and find new stuff lol, but I also just really like... knowing stuff for the sake of knowing stuff, I guess. I've always spent a lot of time reading about various subjects that held my interest att, like dinosaurs, the universe, animals/nature/planet Earth, sports, music, and (most recently) language. Other stuff that I like to read is mainly fantasy, like Eragon / Lord of the Rings / Harry Potter, I guess stuff like the Odyssey sort of qualifies too, and atm I'm being forced to read One Piece (really enjoying it so far.)

I also like biking / walking, though I haven't been doing that as much lately because other stuff has been more interesting u_u maybe I'll get back to it at some later point.

Aside from mons and school work I'm a basketball and running fanatic, and have played almost every Mario game out there. Not too much else about me but if you ever wanna talk about basketball Mario or mons hmu on showdown or PM me :)

Outside of the internet / gaming I like to hang out with friends, run, and ski, but unfortunately I don't get skiing a ton and my fingers and toes get really cold really fast which sucks. I also enjoy learning fun facts about various elements much to the dismay of just about everyone.

Outside of playing games and being on the internet not much. I go to college, though.

Pretty much all my free time is spent on the internet or playing a game lol.

Mostly trying to learn new instruments. Just started learning Guitar. As a percussionist of 9 years, that sh*t is hard. My fingers hurt.

Also reading. Since I'm not going back for more schooling until August, I gotta try to keep my mind kind of sharp.

Downloading music for my DJ sets, lifting weights, clubbing, hanging with friends, playing sports, checking sports scores or my fantasy teams, reading fitness articles, working, teaching myself to produce music, looking for jobs, working on my business, glancing at the stock market and porn. Lots of porn.
