[OVERVIEW]

Hitmonchan is a solid Pokemon in PU thanks to its amazing role compression. It's an offensive spinner that threatens many of the tier's Stealth Rock setters such as Regirock, Alolan Sandslash, and Aggron while being bulky enough to act as a blanket check to some of the best specially offensive Pokemon such as Aurorus, and it can act as a revenge killer thanks to Mach Punch. While it lacks a method of reliable recovery, it can mitigate this with Drain Punch or a pinch Berry. However, Hitmonchan's limited movepool leaves it unable to deal with Pokemon that can threaten it out of the battle such as Clefairy, Tangela, and Quagsire, and it is worn down quickly by entry hazards and status conditions. Unless it runs Toxic or an appropriate coverage move, Hitmonchan is helpless against Ghost-types such as Froslass, Jellicent, and Sableye and other hazard setters such as Roselia and Qwilfish, which can make it an unreliable spinner at times. Hitmonchan is also vulnerable to being revenge killed by physically offensive threats such as Gurdurr, Kangaskhan, and Dodrio because of its low Defense. Gurdurr, in particular, can set up in front of it and take advantage of Toxic by activating Guts.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Drain Punch serves as both Hitmochan's main STAB attack and primary method of recovering HP, allowing it to continue using Rapid Spin. Mach Punch gives Hitmonchan a way to deal with weakened faster Pokemon such as Lycanroc, Kabutops, and Kangaskhan. Toxic gives Hitmonchan a way to cripple defensive switch-ins such as Jellicent, Quagsire, and Sableye.

Set Details
========

The given EV investment lets Hitmonchan always OHKO maximum HP Alolan Sandslash with Drain Punch while still having a good chance of avoiding a 2HKO by Timid Choice Scarf Aurorus's Blizzard after hail and Stealth Rock damage. Iapapa Berry gives Hitmonchan an extra form of recovery without relying on Drain Punch. This is especially helpful after switching into entry hazards and powerful Pokemon often.

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can try to pivot into Pokemon such as Crygonal, Audino, and Eelektross, but you should be cautious, because Hitmonchan should still try to be as healthy as possible so it can continue clearing entry hazards for its team. Be mindful of Hitmonchan's HP, since it can only take certain attacks such as Aggron's Head Smash from full HP. Hitmonchan can also come into battle against Stealth Rock users such as Regirock and Alolan Sandslash as they are setting their hazards or with the help of a pivot. Rapid Spin is most likely going to be the most used move, as Hitmonchan should aim to clear its side of the field of entry hazards as soon as possible. Since Hitmonchan often invites Pokemon like Jellicent, Golurk, and Sableye into battle, it can use Toxic as they come in to cripple them. Afterwards, Hitmonchan should try to pivot out because these Pokemon threaten it with their own Toxic or a potential burn from Scald. Once these Pokemon are properly dealt with, Hitmonchan can use Drain Punch to keep itself healthy. Still, be mindful of common Rocky Helmet users such as Skuntank and Qwilfish, as the extra residual damage is detrimental to Hitmonchan's attempt to restore its health with Drain Punch. Skuntank can also wear Hitmonchan down further with Aftermath.

Team Options
========

Hitmonchan fits on most bulky or balanced teams thanks to its ability to clear entry hazards while threatening Stealth Rock setters like Regirock. Offensive Pokemon that are weak to Stealth Rock such as Simisear, Scyther, and Oricorio-E appreciate Hitmonchan's Rapid Spin support and ability to check Rock-types. These Pokemon can also threaten physically defensive Pokemon like Aggron, Tangela, and Gurdurr for Hitmonchan. Spikes setters like Froslass, Qwilfish, and Roselia also pair well with Hitmonchan, since it can remove hazards without removing the Spikes they set. Qwilfish and Roselia can also absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan. Physically defensive teammates like Aggron, Mudsdale, and Regirock can help Hitmonchan by taking physical attacks aimed at it such as Poison Jab from Skuntank. Aggron and Regirock can also threaten Flying-types for Hitmonchan. Partners like Skuntank, Alolan Persian, and Spiritomb can also be beneficial, since they can help stop the Ghost- and Psychic-types like Golurk and Claydol that wall Hitmonchan. Skuntank can even absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan, which benefits its longevity. Pivots such as Scyther, Lanturn, and Eelektross can help bring Hitmonchan safely into battle against Pokemon like Drampa, Stoutland, and Audino.

[SET]
name: Life Orb Attacker

move 4: Rapid Spin

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Thunder Punch can deal super effective damage to bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Qwilfish, which can otherwise spinblock Hitmonchan and set Spikes, respectively. Stone Edge can punish Pokemon like Oricorio-E, Scyther, and Froslass that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed ensures that Hitmonchan will outpace Timid Omastar before Shell Smash and Timid Aurorus.

Usage Tips
========

This set turns Hitmonchan into a wallbreaker that can also act as a revenge killer and take care of offensive threats such as Omastar, Stoutland, and Simisear thanks to Mach Punch. Hitmonchan shouldn't be brought in against a direct attack, because this set sacrifices bulk for power. Instead, it should be brought in through aggressive double switches, by using a pivot, on passive Pokemon such as Audino, or after a teammate has fainted. Hitmonchan is most likely going to be using its Fighting-type STAB moves throughout the match, so it will be inviting Pokemon such as Froslass, Oricorio-G, and Jellicent to take these moves. If this is anticipated, Hitmonchan can use one of its coverage moves to punish these Pokemon that attempt to switch directly into it. This play can be especially rewarding given the extra power that Life Orb provides. Clearing entry hazards is still an important role that Hitmonchan provides, although it isn't that durable because of its lack of bulk investment and the recoil from Life Orb. If hazards are clear, Hitmonchan should focus on wallbreaking and revenge killing.

Team Options
========

Life Orb Hitmonchan fits on teams that need a check to fast and frail setup sweepers such as Omastar, Lycanroc, and Simisear as well as a spinner. Since Hitmonchan forces many switches, it can take advantage of entry hazards to provide important chip damage. Stealth Rock setters like Aggron, Mudsdale, and Aggron have good synergy with Hitmonchan. Spikes setters like Froslass and Qwilfish also appreciate the fact that Hitmonchan doesn't remove the Spikes they set when it clears hazards. Dark-types like Skuntank, Absol, and Spiritomb are also beneficial, as they can properly check the Psychic- and Ghost-types such as Claydol, Jellicent, and Haunter that can give Hitmonchan trouble. Since Hitmonchan isn't as invested in its defenses, having a pivot that can bring it in safely is important. Teammates such as Eelektross, Alolan Persian, and Oricorio-E are decent options for this role. Eelektross can threaten out Jellicent and Qwilfish for Hitmonchan if it chooses to run Stone Edge instead of Thunder Punch. Special attackers such as Haunter, Rotom-F, and Simisear appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to clear hazards and threaten special walls like Type: Null and Eelektross.

[SET]
name: Assault Vest
move 1: Drain Punch
move 2: Mach Punch
move 3: Thunder Punch / Stone Edge
move 4: Rapid Spin
item: Assault Vest
ability: Iron Fist
nature: Adamant
evs: 156 HP / 224 Atk / 128 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Thunder Punch is the primary coverage move to threaten Pokemon like Jellicent, Oricorio-G, and Qwilfish that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan. Stone Edge is a more powerful yet less accurate option to punish Pokemon like Scyther, Oricorio-E, and Froslass.

Set Details
========

156 HP EVs with an Assault Vest guarantee that Hitmonchan survives Modest +2 Omastar's Hydro Vortex after Stealth Rock damage. The EVs in Speed allow Hitmonchan to outspeed Choice Specs Modest Jellicent, Aurorus, and Aggron. Alternatively, it can run 196 Speed EVs to outpace Timid Aurorus and Mild Abomasnow. The rest of the EVs are placed into Attack so Hitmonchan can have greater offensive presence combined with an Adamant nature and Iron Fist.

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can threaten out Pokemon such as Drampa, Alolan Sandslash, and Aurorus thanks to its STAB attacks, as well as blanket checking powerful special attackers such as Drampa, Omastar, and Rotom-F. Be careful with Hitmonchan's health; it only checks these aforementioned threats for a limited time, since it has a low amount of HP and Drain Punch is not the most reliable recovery move. Make sure Toxic Spikes are also cleared, since Hitmonchan doesn't appreciate being poisoned. After it has come into battle, it should aim to clear away entry hazards if they are present, recover its health lost with Drain Punch, or revenge kill a weakened threat with Mach Punch. However, the opponent could anticipate these moves and go to a Pokemon that resists Hitmonchan's STAB attacks or blocks Rapid Spin such as Oricorio-G, Silvally-Fairy, Froslass, or Jellicent. If this is anticipated, it would be wise to use one of Hitmonchan's coverage moves to catch these switch-ins off guard. However, Hitmonchan should not stay in against these Pokemon because they can threaten it out with their STAB moves, Toxic, or a burn from Will-O-Wisp or Scald.

Team Options
========

Keeping Hitmonchan healthy is a priority so it can continue being a blanket check to strong special attackers. Teammates such as Alolan Persian and Lanturn can help keep Hitmonchan healthy with Z-Parting Shot and Heal Bell, respectively. Having a Poison-type teammate like Skuntank, Qwilfish, or Roselia can also be a good idea, since they absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan. Qwilfish and Roselia also appreciate Hitmonchan not clearing the Spikes they set when it uses Rapid Spin. Qwilfish can also provide Intimidate support so Hitmonchan has an easier time taking physical attacks. Pursuit trappers like Skuntank and Stoutland can trap Ghost- and Psychic-types that can give Hitmonchan trouble. Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Regirock appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to soft check special attackers. These Pokemon also enjoy Hitmonchan's ability to check Water-type Pokemon such as Omastar, Carracosta, and Ludicolo. Other offensive Pokemon such as Scyther, Dodrio, and Articuno appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to remove Stealth Rock.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A Choice Band set with Close Combat or Drain Punch / Thunder Punch / Ice Punch / Mach Punch is a usable option to 2HKO Qwilfish and Victreebel, and it has an 85% chance to 2HKO Clefairy. However, this isn't the best set, since it sacrifices Hitmonchan's ability to switch moves when it needs to. Bulk Up can also be considered to break through defensive Pokemon that usually stop Hitmonchan such as Mudsdale. However, this set is performed much better by Gurdurr, since it is bulkier than Hitmonchan thanks to Eviolite, can take advantage of status conditions with Guts, and has Knock Off to further increase its offensive presence. Throat Chop is an offensive option so Hitmonchan can deal super effective damage to Ghost-types like Froslass, Jellicent, and Haunter. However, Thunder Punch and Stone Edge accomplish the same thing against Qwilfish and Jellicent with the added bonus of dealing with Flying-types. Foresight is an interesting tech that allows Hitmonchan to use Rapid Spin against Ghost-types like Golurk and Jellicent and hit them with its Fighting-type moves. However, this move is difficult to fit on a set and only works one turn after use, meaning repeated use is required. Ice Punch is another alternative to beat Pokemon like Claydol, Victreebel, and Golurk but leaves Hitmonchan unable to beat Jellicent and Qwilfish.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Residual Damage**: Hitmonchan may resist Stealth Rock, but it is still worn down by continually switching into entry hazards to clear them. It also has to be cautious about spinning in front of Rocky Helmet users like Skuntank, since the contact damage also hurts Hitmonchan. Toxic Spikes are especially detrimental, as they can inflict poison damage, which can chip away at Hitmonchan's longevity. Burns from Will-O-Wisp and Scald similarly wear Hitmonchan down further and force offensive sets to lose offensive pressure.

**Ghost-types**: Hitmonchan has limited options for dealing with Ghost-types. While bulky ones such as Jellicent, Sableye, and Spiritomb are crippled by Toxic and offensive ones such as Froslass and Oricorio-G do not want to risk switching into a potential Stone Edge, Hitmonchan does not want to risk staying in against these Pokemon because they all spinblock it and threaten it out with either status moves or their own powerful STAB moves. Golurk can even set Stealth Rock and block Hitmonchan's efforts to clear them, while Haunter is immune to Toxic and forces Hitmonchan out if it doesn't carry coverage moves.

**Psychic-types**: Because Hitmonchan lacks super effective coverage to hit them, Pokemon such as Claydol and Alolan Raichu can easily pivot into its Fighting-type moves and force it out with their super effective coverage. They do need to be cautious about potentially switching into Toxic or its coverage moves, however.

**Fighting-resistant Pokemon**: Fairy- and Flying-types such as Clefairy, Scyther, and Oricorio-E can threaten Hitmonchan out of battle with their powerful STAB moves. Qwilfish can force Hitmonchan out of the battle with Intimidate or the threat of a Scald burn and proceed to set up its own hazards. Victreebel can also come in against Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and weaken it with Strength Sap. Outside of Clefairy and Victreebel, none of these Pokemon want to risk switching into Toxic, Stone Edge, or Thunder Punch, though.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Defensive Pokemon like Gurdurr and Quagsire can easily take any hit Hitmonchan goes for while also Toxic stalling it and proceeding to recover their health. Mudsdale can also wear Hitmonchan down with Toxic and even gain a Defense boost from Hitmonchan's moves. From there, it can threaten out Hitmonchan with its own powerful moves. Quagsire and Mudsdale want to avoid Toxic themselves, however.

**Physically Offensive Pokemon**: Thanks to Hitmonchan's poor physical bulk, offensive Pokemon like Primeape, Kangaskhan, and Dodrio can threaten Hitmonchan but don't want to risk switching into any of its moves.

  • Iapapa Berry gives Hitonchan an extra form of recovery without relying on Drain Punch. This is especially helpful after switching into entry hazards and powerful Pokemon often.
Usage Tips
========
  • Hitmonchan is an entry hazard clearer that can function all throughout the match. this isnt really a tip about the set though, it says nothing about how you play
  • Hitmontop can easily pivot onto Pokemon such as Guzzlord, Crygonal, and Absol. Even though it can switch into these Pokemon, Hitmonchan should still try to be as healthy as possible so that it can keep performing its role for the team. this almost talks about how it should play but doesnt quite get to the main point that u have to be careful about preserving its health and pick and choose your moments
  • Hitmonchan can also come into battle against Stealth Rock users such as Regirock and Aurorus as they are setting thier hazards or with the help of a pivot.

  • 156 HP EVs with an Assault Vest prevents a Modest Omastar's +2 Hydro Vortex from OKHOing Hitmonchan after taking Stealth Rock damage and it is 2HKO'd by Guzzlord's Devastating Drake. do u mean devastating drake into draco meteor or what, u cant get 2hkod by the z move

Usage Tips

  • This Hitmonchan provides both power and bulk this set is not powerful, it threatens those mons out because it has SE STAB moves, as it can threaten out Pokemon such as Guzzlord, Alolan Sandslash, and Aurorus, as well as blanket check powerful special attackers such as Drampa, Omastar, and Rotom-F.
  • While it can switch directly into these Pokemon, it cannot do this repeatedly since it doesn't have the most reliable recovery in the world.
  • After it has come into battle it should aim to either clear away entry hazards if they are present, recover its health lost with Drain Punch, or revenge kill a weakened threat with Mach Punch.
  • Make sure Toxic Spikes are cleared first, since this Hitmonchan doesn't appreciate being poisoned from Toxic.
  • However, the foe could anticipate these moves and go into a Pokemon that resists its STAB attacks or Rapid Spin such as Oricorio-G, Silvally-Fairy, Froslass, or Jellicent. However, Hitmonchan should not stay in against these Pokemon because they can threaten it out with thier STABs, Toxic, or a burn from Will-O-Wisp or Scald.
this also definitely needs a line about being careful with chan's health since it checks some very important things but only for a limited time

  • Keeping Hitmonchan healthy is a priority so that it can continue being a blanket check to strong special attackers. • Having a Poison-type teammate like Skuntank, Qwilfish, and Roselia can also be a good idea, since they absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan. Qwilfish also appreciates Hitmonchan not clearing the Spikes it sets when it uses Rapid Spin and it can provide Intimidate support so that Hitmonchan has an easier time taking physical attacks. Skuntank, meanwhile, can also Pursuit trap Ghost- and Psychic-types that can give Hitmonchan trouble.
  • Other Pursuit trappers in PU include Absol, Liepard, and Spiritomb.
  • Physically defensive Pokemon such as Aggron, Mudsdale, and Regirock appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to soft check special attackers. These Pokemon also appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to check Water-type Pokemon such as Omastar, Carracosta, and Ludicolo.

Other Options
=============
  • Choice Band with Earthquake instead of Rapid Spin is a usable option to 2HKO Clefairy, Qwilfish, and Victreebel. This isn't the best set since it scarifices Hitmonchan's ability to switch moves when it needs to.
  • Bulk Up can also be considered to break through defensive Pokemon that usually stop Hitmonchan such as Mudsdale and Quagsire. However, this set is performed much better by Gurdurr since it is bulkier than Hitmonchan thanks to Eviolite, can abuse status conditions with Guts, and has Knock Off to further increase its offensive presence.
i suppose throat chop could get something

Checks and Counters
===================

**Residual Damage**: Hitmonchan may resist Stealth Rock, but it is still worn down by constantly switching into hazards to clear them. Toxic Spikes are especially detrimental, as they can inflict poison damage that can chip away at Hitmonchan's longevity. Burns from Will-O-Wisp and Scald are also a problem since not only do they wear Hitmonchan down further, but burns also force offensive sets to lose offensive pressure. also repeated chip from even resisted things. chan will often die just to switching into dark pulse several times and maybe spinning into a helmet once (also mention helmet)

**Ghost-types**: Hitmonchan has limited options on dealing with Ghost-types. While bulky ones such as Jellicent, Sableye, and Spiritomb are crippled by Toxic and offensive ones such as Froslass and Oricorio-G do not want to risk switching into a potential Stone Edge, Hitmonchan does not want to risk staying in against these Pokemon because they all spinblock it and threaten it out with either status moves or thier own powerful STABS. Golurk can even set Stealth Rock and block Hitmonchan's efforts to clear them, while Haunter is immune to Toxic and forces Hitmonchan out.

**Psychic-types**: Because Hitmochan lacks super effective coverage to hit them, Pokemon such as Mesprit, Alolan Raichu, and Mr. Mime can easily pivot into Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and force it out with their super-effective coverage. They do need to be cautious about potentially switching into Toxic, however.

**Fighting-resistant Pokemon**: Fairy- and Flying-types such as Clefairy, Granbull delete mention, u have plenty and granbull isnt remotely relevant, Scyther, and Oricorio-E can threaten Hitmonchan out of battle with their powerful STAB moves. Qwilfish can force Hitmonchan out of the battle with Intimidate or the threat of a Scald burn and proceeds to set up its own hazards. Victreebel can also come in against Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and weaken it with Strength Sap. However, none of these Pokemon want to risk switching into Toxic, Stone Edge, or Thunder Punch.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Defensive Pokemon like Gurdurr and Quagsire can easily take any hit Hitmonchan goes for while they Toxic stall Hitmonchan or proceed to recover their health. Mudsdale can also wear Hitmonchan down with Rocky Helmet or Toxic and can even gain a defense boost from Hitmonchan's moves.

Pinsir, however, is not afraid of Hitmonchan's moves except for Stone Edge, can set up against it, and OHKO with Earthquake or a Z-Me First. i dont really know why pinsir needs a specific mention at all, it checks slightly differently but that's not a big enough deal

  • Hitmonchan is a solid Pokemon in PU thanks to its amazing role compression: it's an offensive Rapid Spinner that threatens many of the tier's Stealth Rock setters such as Regirock, Alolan Sandslash, and Carracosta (remove carracosta, this set isnt good or common at all) while being bulky enough to act as a blanket check to some of the best specially offensive Pokemon such as Guzzlord, and it can act as a revenge killer thanks to Mach Punch.
  • While it lacks a method of reliable recovery, it can mitigate this with Drain Punch or by holding a pinch berry.
  • However, Hitmonchan's limited movepool leaves it unable to deal with Pokemon that can threaten it out of the battle such as Mesprit, Clefairy, and Quagsire. Unless it tuns Toxic or an appropriate coverage move, Hitmonchan is especially helpless against Ghost-types such as Froslass, Jellicent, and Spiritomb. (I mean this is only true for clefairy since hitmonchan can just toxic mesprit and quagsire like it would froslass jellicent or tomb) (mention sabelye > tomb btw) (you should also make a point about hitmonchan being a unreliable spinner, especially if it faces any of these ghost-type pokemon)
  • Hitmonchan is also vulnerable to being revenge killed by physically offensive threats such as Gurdurr, Kangaskhan, and Skuntank. (it might be worth mentioning that in gurdurr's case, it can also set up against it. also mention somewhere that its revenge killed easily by these mons b/c its phy def sucks)
  • It is also worn down quickly by entry hazards and status conditions. (this should be an extension to the third bullet about matchups where it can struggle to spin)
  • Despite these shortcomings, Hitmonchan is a unique utilty Pokemon with unique role compression that is valued by many teams in PU. (conclusions are unnecessary, remove)

Moves
========
  • Drain Punch serves as both Hitomchan's main STAB attack and its primary method of recovering HP, allowing it to continue using Rapid Spin.
  • Mach Punch gives Hitmonchan a way to deal with weakened faster Pokemon such as Lycanroc, Kabutops, and Kangaskhan.
  • Toxic gives Hitmonchan a way to cripple defensive switch ins such as Jellicent, Quagsire, and Sableye.
Set Details
========
  • The given EV spread allows Hitmonchan to withstand Choice Band Aggron's Head Smash from full HP after Stealth Rock, avoids the OHKO from Guzzlord's Choice Specs boosted Draco Meteor and Devestating Drake after 1 layer of Spikes, while being able to outspeed Aggron and Modest Aurorus.
  • Iapapa Berry gives Hitonchan an extra form of recovery without relying on Drain Punch. This is especially helpful after switching into entry hazards and powerful Pokemon often.
Usage Tips
========
  • Hitmontop can easily pivot onto Pokemon such as Guzzlord, Crygonal, and Absol. (hitmontop :blobwizard: Hitmonchan defintely can not 'easily' pivot into guzzlord or absol lol, so just remove that word since its misleading) Even though it can switch into these Pokemon, Hitmonchan should still try to be as healthy as possible so that it can continue clearing hazards for its team. Be mindful of how healthy Hitmonchan is when making this play, since it can only take certain attacks such as Devestating Drake from Guzzlord from full HP. Others like Absol can carry a coverage move to catch Hitmonchan off guard such as Play Rough and deal serious damage against Hitmonchan or even KO it.
  • Hitmonchan can also come into battle against Stealth Rock users such as Regirock and Aurorus as they are setting their hazards or with the help of a pivot. (rocks aurorus isn't common at all, pick different/more relevant examples here please)
  • Rapid Spin is most likely going to be the most used move, as Hitmonchan should aim to clear its side of the battle of entry hazards as soon as possible.
  • Since Hitmonchan often invites Pokemon like Jellicent, Golurk, and Clefairy into battle, it can use Toxic as they come in into battle to cripple them. (hitmonchan can not cripple clefairy at all with toxic b/c of magic guard :blobastonished:)Afterwards, Hitmonchan should try to pivot out because these Pokemon threaten it with their own Toxic or a potential burn from Scald.
  • Once these Pokemon are properly dealth with, Hitmonchan can use Drain Punch to keep itself healthy. Still, be mindful of common Rocky Helmet users such as Mudsdale and Skuntank, as the extra residual damage is detrimental to Hitmonchan's attempt to restore its health. (mudsdale isnt a common rocky helmet user :psywoke:, the most common items mudsdale runs are iapapa berry/lefties)
Team Options
========
  • Hitmonchan fits on most bulky or balanced teams thanks to its ability to clear hazards while threatening Stealth Rock setters like Regirock.
  • Offensive Pokemon that are weak to Stealth Rock such as Simisear, Scyther, and Oricorio-E appreciate Hitmonchan's Rapid Spin support and its ability to check Rock-types. These Pokemon can also threaten physically defensive Pokemon like Aggron, Mesprit, and Gurdurr for Hitmonchan.
  • Spikes setters like Froslass, Qwilfish, and Roselia also pair well with Hitmonchan, since it can remove hazards without removing the Spikes they set. Qwilfish and Roselia can also absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan.
  • Physically defensive teammates like Aggron, Mudsdale, and Regirock can help Hitmonchan by taking physical attacks aimed at it. (what physical attackks and from what pokemon? be specific.) Aggron can also take Toxic for Hitmonchan while it and Regirock can threaten Flying-types for Hitmonchan.
  • Partners like Skuntank, Guzzlord, and Spiritomb can also be beneficial since they can help stop the Ghost- and Psychic-types (like?) that wall Hitmonchan. Skuntank can even absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan, which benefits its longevity.
  • Pivots such as Primeape, Lanturn, and Oricorio-G can help bring Hitmonchan safely into battle. (oricorio-g isnt a pivot, it never runs u-turn. mention eel here ig)

Moves
========
  • Stone Edge can punish Flying-types like Oricorio-G, Scyther, and Dodrio that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan. (stone edge also punishes froslass who can set up on it and cripple it with willo otherwise)
  • Thunder Punch is a safer, albeit, weaker option that can accomplish the same thing while also being able to deal super effective damage to bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Qwilfish.
Set Details
========
  • With the given EV spread, an Adamant Nature, Iron Fist, and Life Orb, Hitmonchan is as powerful as possible. (idt this info needs to be stated here at all with the new writing standards)
Usage Tips
========
  • This set turns Hitmonchan into a threatening wallbreaker that can also act as a revenge killer thanks to Mach Punch. It can perform this role throughout the game. (nitpick, but i wouldnt say 'threatening')
  • Because this set sacrifices bulk for power, Hitmonchan shouldn't be brought in against a direct attack. Instead, it should be brought in through aggressive double switches, a pivot, or after a teammate has fainted. (it can still be brought in against passive mons tho, mention that)
  • Hitmonchan is most likely going to be using its Fighting-type STAB throughout the match, so it will be inviting Pokemon such as Scyther, Oricorio-G, and Jellicent to take these moves. (remove the scyther mention, its not switching in if rocks are up) If this move is anticipated, then Hitmonchan can use one of its coverage moves to punish these Pokemon that attempt to switch directly into it. This play can be especially rewarding given the extra power that Life Orb provides.
  • Clearing entry hazards is still an important role that Hitmonchan provides, albeit it isn't that durable because of its lack of invested bulk and the recoil from Life Orb. If hazards are clear, then Hitmonchan should focus on wallbreaking and revenge killing.
Team Options
========
  • Life Orb Hitmonchan fits on teams that need a check to fast and frail setup sweepers such as Omastar, Lycanroc, and Simisear.
  • Since Hitmonchan forces many switches, it can take advantage of entry hazards to provide important chip damage. Entry hazard setters like Aggron, Mudsdale, and Aurorus have good synergy with Hitmonchan. Spikes setters like Froslass and Qwilfish also appreciate the fact that Hitmonchan doesn't remove the Spikes they set when it clears hazards.
  • Dark-types like Skuntank, Absol, and Guzzlord are also beneficial as they can properly check the Psychic- and Ghost-types that can give Hitmonchan trouble. (again, mention a few)
  • Since Hitmonchan isn't as invested in its defenses, having a pivot that can bring it in safely is pivotal. Teammates such as Eeelktross, Alolan Persian, and Mesprit are decent options for this role. Hitmonchan can also help check Dark-types for Mesprit, while Eelektross can threaten out Jellicent and Qwilfish for Hitmonchan. (alolan persian naturally invites in mons like guzzlord for hitmonchan to abuse too) (mention mesp also provides healing wish support and sr support for chan)
  • Special attackers such as Haunter, Rotom-F, and Simisear appreciate Hitmochan's ability to clear hazards and threaten special walls like Type: Null, Eelektross, and Assault Vest Guzzlord.

Moves
========
  • Thunder Punch is the primary coverage move to threaten Pokemon like Jellicent, Oricorio-G, and Dordrio that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan. (dodrio doesnt attempt to switch in to hitmonchan ever ?_?)
  • Stone Edge is a more powerful, yet less accurate, option to punish Pokemon like Scyther, Oricorio-E, and Froslass.
Set Details
========
  • 156 HP EVs with an Assault Vest prevents a Modest Omastar's +2 Hydro Vortex from OKHOing Hitmonchan after taking Stealth Rock damage and it is 3HKO'd by Guzzlord's Draco Meteor.
  • The EVs in Speed allows Hitmonchan to outspeed offensive Jellicent, Aurorus, and Jolly Aggron. Alternatively, it can run 196 Speed EVs to outpace Timid Aurorus and Mild Abomasnow.
  • The rest of the EVs are placed into Attack so that Hitmonchan can have a more offensive presence combined with an Adamant Nature and Iron Fist.
Usage Tips
========
  • Hitmonchan can threaten out Pokemon such as Guzzlord, Alolan Sandslash, and Aurorus thanks to its STAB attacks, as well as blanket check powerful special attackers such as Drampa, Omastar, and Rotom-F.
  • Be careful with Hitmonchan's health since it checks these aforementioned threats, but only for a limited time since it has a low amount of HP and Drain Punch is not the most reliable recovery move.
If this is anticipated, it would be wise to use one of Hitmonchan's coverage moves to catch these attempted switch ins off guard. However, Hitmonchan should not stay in against these Pokemon because they can threaten it out with thier STABs, Toxic, or a burn from Will-O-Wisp or Scald.
Team Options
========
  • Keeping Hitmonchan healthy is a priority so that it can continue being a blanket check to strong special attackers. Teammates such as Mesprit, Alolan Persian, and Altaria can help keep Hitmonchan healthy with Healing Wish, Z-Parting Shot, and Heal Bell, respectively. Mesprit can also check physically defensive Pokemon like Gurdurr for Hitmonchan while Hitmonchan can check Dark-types like Guzzlord for Mesprit.
(liepard is awful, remove)
  • Other offensive Pokemon such as Scyther, Dodrio, and Articuno appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to remove Stealth Rock.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Throat Chop is an offensive option so that Hitmonchan can deal super effective damage to Ghost-types like Froslass and Jellicent. However, Thunder Punch and Stone Edge accomplish the same thing with the added bonus of dealing with Flying-types.
  • Foresight
Checks and Counters
===================

**Residual Damage**: Hitmonchan may resist Stealth Rock, but it is still worn down by constantly switching into hazards to clear them. It also has to be cautious about spinning in front of Rocky Helmet users like Mudsdale since the contact damage also hurts Hitmonchan. (again, Mudsdale isn't a rocky helmet user..) Toxic Spikes are especially detrimental, as they can inflict poison damage that can chip away at Hitmonchan's longevity. Burns from Will-O-Wisp and Scald are also a problem since not only do they wear Hitmonchan down further, but burns also force offensive sets to lose offensive pressure. Hitmonchan can also be worn down by repeatedly switching into weak attacks such as Guzzlord's Dark Pulse.

(mention that haunter only forces it out if its not carrying any coverage moves)

**Psychic-types**: Because Hitmochan lacks super effective coverage to hit them, Pokemon such as Mesprit, Alolan Raichu, and Mr. Mime (remove mr.mime, its so bad) can easily pivot into Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and force it out with their super-effective coverage. They do need to be cautious about potentially switching into Toxic, however. (and its coverage moves as well)

**Fighting-resistant Pokemon**: Fairy- and Flying-types such as Clefairy, Scyther, and Oricorio-E can threaten Hitmonchan out of battle with their powerful STAB moves. (Clefairy can literally switch into all of these moves with ease.. :blobglare:)

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Defensive Pokemon like Gurdurr and Quagsire can easily take any hit Hitmonchan goes for while they Toxic stall Hitmonchan or proceed to recover their health. Mudsdale can also wear Hitmonchan down with Rocky Helmet:blobtriumph: or Toxic and can even gain a defense boost from Hitmonchan's moves.

(im glad u made it clear that these pokemon dont want to switch in. I have no idea why you said dodrio attempts to switch into hitmonchan earlier tho..)

While it lacks a method of reliable recovery, it can mitigate this with Drain Punch or by holding a pinch berry. Hitmonchan is also vulnerable to being revenge killed by physically offensive threats such as Gurdurr, Kangaskhan, and Skuntank thanks (i wouldn't say "thanks" here lol)(i also don't rlly know abt mentionning skunk as it trades with chan, i'd replace this mention with Dodrio) to its low physical defense. Gurdurr, in particular, can set up in front of it and abuse Toxic by activating Guts.

Drain Punch serves as both Hitomchan's main STAB attack and its primary method of recovering HP, allowing it to continue using Rapid Spin. Mach Punch gives Hitmonchan a way to deal with weakened faster Pokemon such as Lycanroc, Kabutops, and Kangaskhan. Toxic gives Hitmonchan a way to cripple defensive switch ins such as Jellicent, Quagsire, and Sableye.

Set Details

The given EV spread allows Hitmonchan to withstand Choice Band Aggron's Head Smash from full HP after Stealth Rock, avoids the OHKO from Guzzlord's Choice Specs boosted Draco Meteor and Devestating Drake after 1 layer of Spikes, while being able to outspeed Aggron and Modest Aurorus. (the info should be ordered this way: investment allows it to tank guzz's specs / z-draco after one layer of spikes and also other hits like aggron's head smash, and if you calc'd you would've realized that head smash does like 80% to chan w/ this spread) Iapapa Berry gives Hitonchan an extra form of recovery without relying on Drain Punch. This is especially helpful after switching into entry hazards and powerful Pokemon often. (and this allows it to do its job consistently)

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can pivot onto Pokemon such as Guzzlord, Crygonal, and Absol. (it really can't, replace it with eelektross) Even though it can switch into these Pokemon, Hitmonchan should still try to be as healthy as possible so that it can continue clearing hazards for its team. (i mean, u say that it can pivot into them but then say that it shouldn't rlly do that bc it needs to be healthy?? pick one) Be mindful of how healthy Hitmonchan is when making this play, since it can only take certain attacks such as Devestating Drake from Guzzlord from full HP. Others like Absol can carry a coverage move to catch Hitmonchan off guard such as Play Rough and deal serious damage against Hitmonchan or even KO it. (nuke this sentence, and it doesn't even need play rough to bop it; if it sds on the switch it just has to superpower u as mach doesn't kill from full) Hitmonchan can also come into battle against Stealth Rock users such as Regirock and Alolan Sandslash as they are setting their hazards or with the help of a pivot. Rapid Spin is most likely going to be the most used move, as Hitmonchan should aim to clear its side of the battle of entry hazards as soon as possible. Since Hitmonchan often invites Pokemon like Jellicent, Golurk, and Mesprit into battle, it can use Toxic as they come in into battle to cripple them. Afterwards, Hitmonchan should try to pivot out because these Pokemon threaten it with their own Toxic or a potential burn from Scald. Once these Pokemon are properly dealth with, Hitmonchan can use Drain Punch to keep itself healthy. Still, be mindful of common Rocky Helmet users such as Skuntank (skunk also has aftermath) and Qwilfish, as the extra residual damage is detrimental to Hitmonchan's attempt to restore its health.

Hitmonchan fits on most bulky or balanced teams thanks to its ability to clear hazards while threatening Stealth Rock setters like Regirock. Offensive Pokemon that are weak to Stealth Rock such as Simisear, Scyther, and Oricorio-E appreciate Hitmonchan's Rapid Spin support and its ability to check Rock-types. These Pokemon can also threaten physically defensive Pokemon like Aggron, Mesprit, and Gurdurr for Hitmonchan. Aggron can also take Toxic for Hitmonchan while it and Regirock can threaten Flying-types for Hitmonchan. (i mean, most toxic users either beat aggron or get forced out by chan so idk abt mentioning that, just remove it) Partners like Skuntank, Guzzlord, and Spiritomb can also be beneficial since they can help stop the Ghost- and Psychic-types like Golurk and Mesprit that wall Hitmonchan. Skuntank can even absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan, which benefits its longevity. Pivots such as Primeape, Lanturn, and Eelektross can help bring Hitmonchan safely into battle. Because this set sacrifices bulk for power, Hitmonchan shouldn't be brought in against a direct attack. 156 HP EVs with an Assault Vest prevents a Modest Omastar's +2 Hydro Vortex from OKHOing (lol) Hitmonchan after taking Stealth Rock damage and it is 3HKO'd by Guzzlord's Draco Meteor. The EVs in Speed allows Hitmonchan to outspeed offensive Jellicent, (specs modest) Aurorus, and Jolly Aggron. (just say aggron, as u still outspeed ada aggron) Alternatively, it can run 196 Speed EVs to outpace Timid Aurorus and Mild Abomasnow. The rest of the EVs are placed into Attack so that Hitmonchan can have a more offensive presence combined with an Adamant Nature and Iron Fist.

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can threaten out Pokemon such as Guzzlord, Alolan Sandslash, and Aurorus thanks to its STAB attacks, as well as blanket check powerful special attackers such as Drampa, Omastar, and Rotom-F. Be careful with Hitmonchan's health since it checks these aforementioned threats, but only for a limited time since it has a low amount of HP and Drain Punch is not the most reliable recovery move. After it has come into battle it should aim to either clear away entry hazards if they are present, recover its health lost with Drain Punch, or revenge kill a weakened threat with Mach Punch. Make sure Toxic Spikes are cleared first, since this Hitmonchan doesn't appreciate being poisoned from Toxic. However, the foe could anticipate these moves (you go from when to use x moves and then to removing tspikes before it enters the field and back to when to use x moves??) and go into a Pokemon that resists its STAB attacks or Rapid Spin such as Oricorio-G, Silvally-Fairy, Froslass, or Jellicent. If this is anticipated, it would be wise to use one of Hitmonchan's coverage moves to catch these attempted switch ins off guard. Choice Band with Earthquake instead of Rapid Spin is a usable option to 2HKO Clefairy, Qwilfish, and Victreebel. (i like cc / dpunch + tpunch + ice punch + mach a lot more ngl) This isn't the best set since it scarifices Hitmonchan's ability to switch moves when it needs to. Bulk Up can also be considered to break through defensive Pokemon that usually stop Hitmonchan such as Mudsdale and Quagsire. (quagsire has unaware) However, this set is performed much better by Gurdurr since it is bulkier than Hitmonchan thanks to Eviolite, can abuse status conditions with Guts, and has Knock Off to further increase its offensive presence. Throat Chop is an offensive option so that Hitmonchan can deal super effective damage to Ghost-types like Froslass and Jellicent. (it also hits mesprit) However, Thunder Punch and Stone Edge accomplish the same thing with the added bonus of dealing with Flying-types. Foresight is an interesting tech that allows Hitmonchan to Rapid Spin against Ghost-types like Golurk and Jellicent and it allows Hitmonchan to hit them with its Fighting-type moves. However, this move is difficult to fit on a set and it only works one turn after use. meaning repeated use is required. (this is a bit late but mention ice punch here, it hits oricorios, vic, and golurk)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Residual Damage**: Hitmonchan may resist Stealth Rock, but it is still worn down by constantly switching into hazards to clear them. It also has to be cautious about spinning in front of Rocky Helmet users like Skuntank since the contact damage also hurts Hitmonchan. Hitmonchan can also be worn down by repeatedly switching into weak attacks such as Guzzlord's Dark Pulse. (i mean, that's kinda its job)

Golurk can even set Stealth Rock and block Hitmonchan's efforts to clear them, while Haunter is immune to Toxic and forces Hitmonchan out if it doesn't carry coverage moves.

**Psychic-types**: Because Hitmochan lacks super effective coverage to hit them, Pokemon such as Mesprit and Alolan Raichu can easily pivot into Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and force it out with their super-effective coverage.

Qwilfish can force Hitmonchan out of the battle with Intimidate or the threat of a Scald burn and proceeds to set up its own hazards. Victreebel can also come in against Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and weaken it with Strength Sap. Outside of Clefairy, none of these Pokemon want to risk switching into Toxic, Stone Edge, or Thunder Punch. (i mean, vic doesn't rlly care tbh)

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Defensive Pokemon like Gurdurr and Quagsire can easily take any hit Hitmonchan goes for while they Toxic stall Hitmonchan or proceed to recover their health. Mudsdale can also wear Hitmonchan down with Toxic and can even gain a defense boost from Hitmonchan's moves. From there, it can threaten out Hitmonchan with its own powerful moves. Quagsire and Mudsdale want to avoid Toxic themselves, however.

**Physically Offensive Pokemon**: Thanks to Hitmonchan's poor physical bulk, offensive Pokemon like Primeape, Kangaskhan, and Dodrio can threaten Hitmonchan but don't want to risk switching into any of its moves.

yo im skimming through this for the first time and theres a few errors ive spotted so i'd like to give you some feedback before gp tackles this
[OVERVIEW]

Hitmonchan is a solid Pokemon in PU thanks to its amazing role compression: it's an offensive Rapid Spinner that threatens many of the tier's Stealth Rock setters such as Regirock, Alolan Sandslash, and Aggron while being bulky enough to act as a blanket check to some of the best specially offensive Pokemon such as Guzzlord, and it can act as a revenge killer thanks to Mach Punch. While it lacks a method of reliable recovery, it can mitigate this with Drain Punch or by holding a pinch berry. However, Hitmonchan's limited movepool leaves it unable to deal with Pokemon that can threaten it out of the battle such as Clefairy (surely you have better examples than this.. quagsire and tangela are also good examples which can beat av/lo quite easily, mesprit and gurdurr as well for all of its sets), it is also worn down quickly by entry hazards and status conditions, and unless it runs Toxic or an appropriate coverage move, Hitmonchan is helpless against Ghost-types such as Froslass, Jellicent, and Sableye, which can make it an unreliable spinner at times (mention other setters too - mesprit and qwilfish have an advantageous matchup through super effective stab/tspikes and helmet which can make chan's job a pain. this is also a huge run-on sentence, try making a new sentence after "status conditions"). Hitmonchan is also vulnerable to being revenge killed by physically offensive threats such as Gurdurr, Kangaskhan, and Dodrio because of its low physical defense. Gurdurr, in particular, can set up in front of it and abuse Toxic by activating Guts.

Moves
========

Set Details
========

The given EV spread allows Hitmonchan to tank Guzzlord's Choice Specs Draco Meteor and (say "or" here for clarity) a Devastating Drake after one layer of Spikes and also other hits like Aggron's Head Smash from full HP while being able to outspeed Aggron and Modest Aurorus. Iapapa Berry gives Hitonchan an extra form of recovery without relying on Drain Punch. This is especially helpful after switching into entry hazards and powerful Pokemon often.

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can try to pivot onto Pokemon such as Guzzlord, Crygonal, and Eelektross, but be cautious because Hitmonchan should still try to be as healthy as possible so that it can continue clearing hazards for its team. Be mindful of Hitmonchan's HP, since it can only take certain attacks such as Devestating Drake from Guzzlord from full HP. Hitmonchan can also come into battle against Stealth Rock users such as Regirock and Alolan Sandslash as they are setting their hazards or with the help of a pivot. Still, be mindful of common Rocky Helmet users such as Skuntank and Qwilfish, as the extra residual damage is detrimental to Hitmonchan's attempt to restore its health. Skuntank can also wear Hitmonchan down further with Aftermath.

Team Options
========

Partners like Skuntank, Guzzlord, and Spiritomb can also be beneficial since they can help stop the Ghost- and Psychic-types like Golurk and Mesprit that wall Hitmonchan. Skuntank can even absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan, which benefits its longevity. Pivots such as Scyther, Lanturn, and Eelektross can help bring Hitmonchan safely into battle against Pokemon like Guzzlord, Drampa, or Audino.

Moves
========

Thunder Punch is a good move for Hitmonchan since it can deal super effective damage to bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Qwilfish which can otherwise spinblock it and set Spikes as it otherwise can't touch them, respectively. Stone Edge can punish Flying-types like Oricorio-E, Scyther, and Froslass (nice flying type froslass) that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan.

Set Details
========

Maxiumum Speed ensures that Hitmonchan will be outpacing Timid Omastar before Shell Smash and Timid Aurorus, as well as speed tying with offensive Alolan Sandslash (you just mach punch this lol).

Usage Tips
========

This set turns Hitmonchan into a wallbreaker that can also act as a revenge killer that can take care of offensive threats such as Omastar, Stoutland, and Simisear thanks to Mach Punch. It can perform this role throughout the game. Because this set sacrifices bulk for power, Hitmonchan shouldn't be brought in against a direct attack. Instead, it should be brought in through aggressive double switches, a pivot, passive Pokemon such as Audino, or after a teammate has fainted. Hitmonchan is most likely going to be using its Fighting-type STAB throughout the match, so it will be inviting Pokemon such as Froslass, Oricorio-G, and Jellicent to take these moves. If this move is anticipated, then Hitmonchan can use one of its coverage moves to punish these Pokemon that attempt to switch directly into it. This play can be especially rewarding given the extra power that Life Orb provides. Clearing entry hazards is still an important role that Hitmonchan provides, albeit it isn't that durable because of its lack of invested bulk and the recoil from Life Orb. If hazards are clear, then Hitmonchan should focus on wallbreaking and revenge killing.

Team Options
========

Life Orb Hitmonchan fits on teams that need a check to fast and frail setup sweepers such as Omastar, Lycanroc, and Simisear (ig teams that are desperate for entry hazard removal too). Since Hitmonchan forces many switches, it can take advantage of entry hazards to provide important chip damage. Stealth Rock setters like Aggron, Mudsdale, and Mesprit have good synergy with Hitmonchan. Spikes setters like Froslass and Qwilfish also appreciate the fact that Hitmonchan doesn't remove the Spikes they set when it clears hazards. Dark-types like Skuntank, Absol, and Guzzlord are also beneficial as they can properly check the Psychic- and Ghost-types such as Claydol, Jellicent, and Haunter that can give Hitmonchan trouble. Since Hitmonchan isn't as invested in its defenses, having a pivot that can bring it in safely is pivotal (would pick a different word here, "having a pivot is pivotal" sounds silly). Teammates such as Eeelektross, Alolan Persian, and Mesprit are decent options for this role. Hitmonchan can also help check Dark-types for Mesprit, while Mesprit can provide Healing Wish support and Stealth Rock for Hitmonchan. Eelektross can threaten out Jellicent and Qwilfish for Hitmonchan if it chooses to run Stone Edge. Alolan Persian also invites in Pokemon like Guzzlord for Hitmonchan to take out. Special attackers such as Haunter, Rotom-F, and Simisear appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to clear hazards and threaten special walls like Type: Null, Eelektross, and Assault Vest Guzzlord.

Moves
========

Thunder Punch is the primary coverage move to threaten Pokemon like Jellicent, Oricorio-G, and Qwilfish that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan. Stone Edge is a more powerful, yet less accurate, option to punish Pokemon like Scyther, Oricorio-E, and Froslass.

Set Details
========

156 HP EVs with an Assault Vest makes sure that Hitmonchan is only 3HKO'd by Guzzlord's Draco Meteor (you should be noting +2 modest omastar's hydro pump with rocks up). The EVs in Speed allows Hitmonchan to outspeed Choice Specs Modest Jellicent, Aurorus, and Aggron. Alternatively, it can run 196 Speed EVs to outpace Timid Aurorus and Mild Abomasnow. The rest of the EVs are placed into Attack so that Hitmonchan can have a more offensive presence combined with an Adamant Nature and Iron Fist.

Usage Tips
========

Make sure Toxic Spikes are also cleared, since this Hitmonchan doesn't appreciate being poisoned from Toxic. (spacing) After it has come into battle it should aim to either clear away entry hazards if they are present, recover its health lost with Drain Punch, or revenge kill a weakened threat with Mach Punch. However, the foe could anticipate these moves and go into a Pokemon that resists its STAB attacks or Rapid Spin such as Oricorio-G, Silvally-Fairy, Froslass, or Jellicent.

========

Keeping Hitmonchan healthy is a priority so that it can continue being a blanket check to strong special attackers. Teammates such as Mesprit, Alolan Persian, and Lanturn can help keep Hitmonchan healthy with Healing Wish, Z-Parting Shot, and Heal Bell, respectively. Mesprit can also check physically defensive Pokemon like Gurdurr for Hitmonchan while Hitmonchan can check Dark-types like Guzzlord for Mesprit. Having a Poison-type teammate like Skuntank, Qwilfish, and Roselia can also be a good idea, since they absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan. Qwilfish and Roselia also appreciate Hitmonchan not clearing the Spikes it sets when it uses Rapid Spin and it can provide Intimidate support so that Hitmonchan has an easier time taking physical attacks. Skuntank, meanwhile, can also Pursuit trap Ghost- and Psychic-types that can give Hitmonchan trouble. Other Pursuit trappers in PU include Stoutland. Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Regirock appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to soft check special attackers. These Pokemon also appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to check Water-type Pokemon such as Omastar, Carracosta, and Ludicolo. Other offensive Pokemon such as Scyther, Dodrio, and Articuno appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to remove Stealth Rock.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Choice Band with Close Combat or Drain Punch / Thunder Punch / Ice Punch / Mach Punch is a usable option to 2HKO Qwilfish and Victreebel, and it has an 85% chance to 2HKO Clefairy. This isn't the best set since it sacrifices Hitmonchan's ability to switch moves when it needs to. Bulk Up can also be considered to break through defensive Pokemon that usually stop Hitmonchan such as Mudsdale. However, this set is performed much better by Gurdurr since it is bulkier than Hitmonchan thanks to Eviolite, can abuse status conditions with Guts, and has Knock Off to further increase its offensive presence. Ice Punch is another alternative to beat Pokemon like Oricorio-E, Victreebel, and Golurk (Ori-G isnt really a special target to list since its other coverage moves hit it super effectively... i'd note claydol here instead as its able to completely wall chan otherwise outside of toxic. note how it cant touch qwilfish/jellicent however).

Other Options
=============

Choice Band with Close Combat or Drain Punch / Thunder Punch / Ice Punch / Mach Punch is a usable option to 2HKO Qwilfish and Victreebel, and it has an 85% chance to 2HKO Clefairy. This isn't the best set since it scarifices sacrifices Hitmonchan's ability to switch into moves when it needs to. Throat Chop is an offensive option so that Hitmonchan can deal super effective damage to Ghost-types Pokemon like Froslass, Jellicent, and Haunter. However, Thunder Punch and Stone Edge accomplish the same thing against Qwilfish and Jellicent with the added bonus of dealing with Flying-types. Ice Punch is another alternative to beat Pokemon like Claydol, Victreebel, and Golurk, but leaves Hitmonchan unable to beat Jellicent and Qwilfish.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Residual Damage**: Hitmonchan may resist Stealth Rock, but it is still worn down by constantly switching into hazards to clear them. It also has to be cautious about spinning in front of Rocky Helmet users like Skuntank since the contact damage also hurts Hitmonchan.

**Ghost-types**: Hitmonchan has limited options on dealing with Ghost-types. While bulky ones such as Jellicent, Sableye, and Spiritomb are crippled by Toxic and offensive ones such as Froslass and Oricorio-G do not want to risk switching into a potential Stone Edge, Hitmonchan does not want to risk staying in against these Pokemon because they all spinblock it and threaten it out with either status moves or thier their own powerful STABS STAB moves. Golurk can even set Stealth Rock and block Hitmonchan's efforts to clear them, while Haunter is immune to Toxic and forces Hitmonchan out if it doesn't carry coverage moves.

**Psychic-types**: Because Hitmochan lacks super effective coverage to hit them, Pokemon such as Claydol and Alolan Raichu can easily pivot into Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and force it out with their super-effective coverage.

Qwilfish can force Hitmonchan out of the battle with Intimidate or the threat of a Scald burn and can proceeds proceed to set up its own hazards. Victreebel can also come in against Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and weaken it with Strength Sap. Outside of Clefairy and Victreebel, none of these Pokemon want to risk switching into Toxic, Stone Edge, or Thunder Punch.

Hitmonchan is a solid Pokemon in PU thanks to its amazing role compression: (Remove colon, AP). it's It's an offensive Rapid Spinner that threatens many of the tier's Stealth Rock setters such as Regirock, Alolan Sandslash, and Aggron while being bulky enough to act as a blanket check to some of the best specially offensive Pokemon such as Aurorus, and it can act as a revenge killer thanks to Mach Punch. While it lacks a method of reliable recovery, it can mitigate this with Drain Punch or by holding a pinch berry Berry. However, Hitmonchan's limited movepool leaves it unable to deal with Pokemon that can threaten it out of the battle such as Clefairy, (AC) Tangela, and Quagsire, (AC) and it is worn down quickly by entry hazards and status conditions. Unless it runs Toxic or an appropriate coverage move, Hitmonchan is helpless against Ghost-types such as Froslass, Jellicent, and Sableye, and other hazard setters such as Roselia and Qwilfish, which can make it an unreliable spinner at times. Hitmonchan is also vulnerable to being revenge killed by physically offensive threats such as Gurdurr, Kangaskhan, and Dodrio because of its low physical defense Defense. Gurdurr, in particular, can set up in front of it and abuse Toxic by activating Guts.

Moves

Drain Punch serves as both Hitmochan's main STAB attack and its primary method of recovering HP, allowing it to continue using Rapid Spin. Mach Punch gives Hitmonchan a way to deal with weakened faster Pokemon such as Lycanroc, Kabutops, and Kangaskhan. Toxic gives Hitmonchan a way to cripple defensive switch-ins (AH) such as Jellicent, Quagsire, and Sableye.

The given EV investment lets HItmonchan Hitmonchan always OHKO maximum HP Alolam Alolan Sandslash with Drain Punch while still having a good chance of being 2HKO'd 2HKOed by Timid Choice Scarf Aurorus's Blizzard after hail and Stealth Rock damage. Iapapa Berry gives Hitmonchan an extra form of recovery without relying on Drain Punch. This is especially helpful after switching into entry hazards and powerful Pokemon often.

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can try to pivot onto into Pokemon such as Crygonal, Audino, and Eelektross, but be cautious because Hitmonchan should still try to be as healthy as possible so that it can continue clearing hazards for its team. Rapid Spin is most likely going to be the most used move, as Hitmonchan should aim to clear its side of the battle field of entry hazards as soon as possible. Since Hitmonchan often invites Pokemon like Jellicent, Golurk, and Sableye into battle, it can use Toxic as they come in into battle to cripple them. ("Into battle" was repetitive there) Afterwards, Hitmonchan should try to pivot out because these Pokemon threaten it with their own Toxic or a potential burn from Scald. Once these Pokemon are properly dealth with, Hitmonchan can use Drain Punch to keep itself healthy. Still, be mindful of common Rocky Helmet users such as Skuntank and Qwilfish, as the extra residual damage is detrimental to Hitmonchan's attempt to restore its health. Skuntank can also wear Hitmonchan down further with Aftermath.

Team Options
========

Partners like Skuntank, Alolan Persian, and Spiritomb can also be beneficial since they can help stop the Ghost- and Psychic-types like Golurk and Claydol that wall Hitmonchan. Skuntank can even absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan, which benefits its longevity. Pivots such as Scyther, Lanturn, and Eelektross can help bring Hitmonchan safely into battle against Pokemon like Drampa, Stoutland, or Audino.

Moves

Thunder Punch is a good move for Hitmonchan since it can deal super effective damage to bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Qwilfish which can otherwise spinblock it and set Spikes as it otherwise can't touch them, respectively. Stone Edge can punish Pokemon like Oricorio-E, Scyther, and Froslass that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan.

Maxiumum Maximum Speed ensures that Hitmonchan will be outpacing Timid Omastar before Shell Smash and Timid Aurorus.

Usage Tips
========

This set turns Hitmonchan into a wallbreaker that can also act as a revenge killer that can and take care of offensive threats such as Omastar, Stoutland, and Simisear thanks to Mach Punch. ("That can" was repetitive there) It can perform this role throughout the game. Because this set sacrifices bulk for power, Hitmonchan shouldn't be brought in against a direct attack, because this set sacrifices bulk for power.

========

Life Orb Hitmonchan fits on teams that need a check to fast and frail setup sweepers such as Omastar, Lycanroc, and Simisear, as well. (RP) (AS) as a spinner. Dark-types like Skuntank, Absol, and Spiritomb are also beneficial as they can properly check the Psychic- and Ghost-types such as Claydol, Jellicent, and Haunter that can give Hitmonchan trouble. Since Hitmonchan isn't as invested in its defenses, having a pivot that can bring it in safely is important. Teammates such as Eeelektross Eelektross, Alolan Persian, and Oricorio-E are decent options for this role. Eelektross can threaten out Jellicent and Qwilfish for Hitmonchan if it chooses to run Stone Edge. Special attackers such as Haunter, Rotom-F, and Simisear appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to clear hazards and threaten special walls like Type: Null and Eelektross.

Moves

Thunder Punch is the primary coverage move to threaten Pokemon like Jellicent, Oricorio-G, and Qwilfish that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan. Stone Edge is a more powerful, yet less accurate, option to punish Pokemon like Scyther, Oricorio-E, and Froslass.

156 HP EVs with an Assault Vest makes sure that Hitmonchan survives Modest +2 Omastar's Hydro Vortex after Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can threaten out Pokemon such as Drampa, Alolan Sandslash, and Aurorus thanks to its STAB attacks, as well as blanket check powerful special attackers such as Drampa, Omastar, and Rotom-F. Be careful with Hitmonchan's health since it checks because it only checks these aforementioned threats, but only for a limited time since it has a low amount of HP and Drain Punch is not the most reliable recovery move. Make sure Toxic Spikes are also cleared, since this Hitmonchan doesn't appreciate being poisoned from Toxic. After it has come into battle, (AC) it should aim to either clear away entry hazards if they are present, recover its health lost with Drain Punch, or revenge kill a weakened threat with Mach Punch. However, the foe opponent could anticipate these moves and go into a Pokemon that resists its STAB attacks or Rapid Spin such as Oricorio-G, Silvally-Fairy, Froslass, or Jellicent. If this is anticipated, it would be wise to use one of Hitmonchan's coverage moves to catch these attempted switch-ins (AH) off guard. However, Hitmonchan should not stay in against these Pokemon because they can threaten it out with thier STABs their STAB moves, Toxic, or a burn from Will-O-Wisp or Scald.

Team Options
========

Keeping Hitmonchan healthy is a priority so that it can continue being a blanket check to strong special attackers. Teammates such as Alolan Persian and Lanturn can help keep Hitmonchan healthy with Z-Parting Shot, (RC) and Heal Bell, respectively. Having a Poison-type teammate like Skuntank, Qwilfish, and or Roselia can also be a good idea, since they absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan. Qwilfish and Roselia also appreciate Hitmonchan not clearing the Spikes it sets when it uses Rapid Spin. (AP) and it Qwilfish can also provide Intimidate support so that Hitmonchan has an easier time taking physical attacks. Other offensive Pokemon such as Scyther, Dodrio, and Articuno appreciate Hitmonchan's ability to remove Stealth Rock.

156 HP EVs with an Assault Vest makes sure that Hitmonchan survives Modest +2 Omastar's Hydro Vortex after Stealth Rock damage. The EVs in Speed allow Hitmonchan to outspeed Choice Specs Modest Jellicent, Aurorus, and Aggron. Alternatively, it can run 196 Speed EVs to outpace Timid Aurorus and Mild Abomasnow. The rest of the EVs are placed into Attack so that Hitmonchan can have a more offensive presence combined with an Adamant Nature and Iron Fist.

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can threaten out Pokemon such as Drampa, Alolan Sandslash, and Aurorus thanks to its STAB attacks, as well as blanket check powerful special attackers such as Drampa, Omastar, and Rotom-F. Be careful with Hitmonchan's health because it only checks these aforementioned threats for a limited time since it has a low amount of HP and Drain Punch is not the most reliable recovery move. Make sure Toxic Spikes are also cleared, since Hitmonchan doesn't appreciate being poisoned from Toxic. After it has come into battle, it should aim to either clear away entry hazards if they are present, recover its health lost with Drain Punch, or revenge kill a weakened threat with Mach Punch. However, the opponent could anticipate these moves and go into a Pokemon that resists its STAB attacks or Rapid Spin such as Oricorio-G, Silvally-Fairy, Froslass, or Jellicent. If this is anticipated, it would be wise to use one of Hitmonchan's coverage moves to catch these attempted switch-ins off guard. However, Hitmonchan should not stay in against these Pokemon because they can threaten it out withtheir STAB moves, Toxic, or a burn from Will-O-Wisp or Scald.

Team Options
========

Keeping Hitmonchan healthy is a priority so that it can continue being a blanket check to strong special attackers. Qwilfish and Roselia also appreciate Hitmonchan not clearing the Spikes it sets when it uses Rapid Spin. Qwilfish can also provide Intimidate support so that Hitmonchan has an easier time taking physical attacks. Pursuit trappers like Skuntank and Stoutland can Pursuit trap Ghost- and Psychic-types that can give Hitmonchan trouble.

Other Options
=============

Choice Band with Close Combat or Drain Punch / Thunder Punch / Ice Punch / Mach Punch is a usable option to 2HKO Qwilfish and Victreebel, and it has an 85% chance to 2HKO Clefairy. However, this isn't the best set since it sacrifices Hitmonchan's ability to switch moves when it needs to. Foresight is an interesting tech that allows Hitmonchan to Rapid Spin against Ghost-types like Golurk and Jellicent and hit them with its Fighting-type moves. However, this move is difficult to fit on a set and it only works one turn after use, meaning repeated use is required. Ice Punch is another alternative to beat Pokemon like Claydol, Victreebel, and Golurk, but leaves Hitmonchan unable to beat Jellicent and Qwilfish.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Residual Damage**: Hitmonchan may resist Stealth Rock, but it is still worn down by constantly switching into hazards to clear them. It also has to be cautious about spinning in front of Rocky Helmet users like Skuntank since the contact damage also hurts Hitmonchan.

**Ghost-types**: Hitmonchan has limited options on in dealing with Ghost-types.

**Psychic-types**: Because Hitmochan lacks super effective coverage to hit them, Pokemon such as Claydol and Alolan Raichu can easily pivot into Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and force it out with their super effective coverage.

Qwilfish can force Hitmonchan out of the battle with Intimidate or the threat of a Scald burn and proceeds to set up its own hazards. Victreebel can also come in against Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and weaken it with Strength Sap. Outside of Clefairy and Victreebel, none of these Pokemon want to risk switching into Toxic, Stone Edge, or Thunder Punch.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Defensive Pokemon like Gurdurr and Quagsire can easily take any hit Hitmonchan goes for while also Toxic stalling it and proceeding to recover their health.

Hitmonchan is a solid Pokemon in PU thanks to its amazing role compression. It's an offensive Rapid Spinner that threatens many of the tier's Stealth Rock setters such as Regirock, Alolan Sandslash, and Aggron while being bulky enough to act as a blanket check to some of the best specially offensive Pokemon such as Aurorus, and it can act as a revenge killer thanks to Mach Punch. While it lacks a method of reliable recovery, it can mitigate this with Drain Punch or by holding a pinch Berry. However, Hitmonchan's limited movepool leaves it unable to deal with Pokemon that can threaten it out of the battle such as Clefairy, Tangela, and Quagsire, and it is worn down quickly by entry hazards and status conditions. Unless it runs Toxic or an appropriate coverage move, Hitmonchan is helpless against Ghost-types such as Froslass, Jellicent, and Sableye,(RC) and other hazard setters such as Roselia and Qwilfish, which can make it an unreliable spinner at times. Hitmonchan is also vulnerable to being revenge killed by physically offensive threats such as Gurdurr, Kangaskhan, and Dodrio because of its low Defense. Gurdurr, in particular, can set up in front of it and abuse take advantage of Toxic by activating Guts.

Toxic gives Hitmonchan a way to cripple defensive switch-ins such as Jellicent, Quagsire, and Sableye.

Set Details
========

The given EV investment lets Hitmonchan always OHKO maximum HP Alolan Sandslash with Drain Punch while still having a good chance of being 2HKOed by Timid Choice Scarf Aurorus's Blizzard after hail and Stealth Rock damage. Iapapa Berry gives Hitmonchan an extra form of recovery without relying on Drain Punch. This is especially helpful after switching into entry hazards and powerful Pokemon often.

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can try to pivot into Pokemon such as Crygonal, Audino, and Eelektross, but be cautious because Hitmonchan should still try to be as healthy as possible so that it can continue clearing entry hazards for its team. Once these Pokemon are properly dealth dealt with, Hitmonchan can use Drain Punch to keep itself healthy.

========

Hitmonchan fits on most bulky or balanced teams thanks to its ability to clear entry hazards while threatening Stealth Rock setters like Regirock. Offensive Pokemon that are weak to Stealth Rock such as Simisear, Scyther, and Oricorio-E appreciate Hitmonchan's Rapid Spin support and its ability to check Rock-types. Partners like Skuntank, Alolan Persian, and Spiritomb can also be beneficial,(AC) since they can help stop the Ghost- and Psychic-types like Golurk and Claydol that wall Hitmonchan. Skuntank can even absorb Toxic Spikes for Hitmonchan, which benefits its longevity. Pivots such as Scyther, Lanturn, and Eelektross can help bring Hitmonchan safely into battle against Pokemon like Drampa, Stoutland, or and Audino.

Thunder Punch is a good move for Hitmonchan since because it can deal super effective damage to bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Qwilfish,(AC) which can otherwise spinblock it and set Spikes, respectively. Stone Edge can punish Pokemon like Oricorio-E, Scyther, and Froslass that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan.

Usage Tips
========

This set turns Hitmonchan into a wallbreaker that can also act as a revenge killer and take care of offensive threats such as Omastar, Stoutland, and Simisear thanks to Mach Punch. It can perform this role throughout the game. Hitmonchan shouldn't be brought in against a direct attack, because this set sacrifices bulk for power. Instead, it should be brought in through aggressive double switches, using a pivot, on passive Pokemon such as Audino, or after a teammate has fainted (parallelism). Hitmonchan is most likely going to be using its Fighting-type STAB moves throughout the match, so it will be inviting Pokemon such as Froslass, Oricorio-G, and Jellicent to take these moves. If this move is anticipated, Hitmonchan can use one of its coverage moves to punish these Pokemon that attempt to switch directly into it. This play can be especially rewarding given the extra power that Life Orb provides. Clearing entry hazards is still an important role that Hitmonchan provides, albeit it isn't that durable because of its lack of invested bulk investment and the recoil from Life Orb. If hazards are clear, then Hitmonchan should focus on wallbreaking and revenge killing.

Team Options

Life Orb Hitmonchan fits on teams that need a check to fast and frail setup sweepers such as Omastar, Lycanroc, and Simisear,(RC) as well,(RC) as a spinner. Dark-types like Skuntank, Absol, and Spiritomb are also beneficial,(AC) as they can properly check the Psychic- and Ghost-types such as Claydol, Jellicent, and Haunter that can give Hitmonchan trouble.

However, the opponent could anticipate these moves and go into a Pokemon that resists Hitmonchan's STAB attacks or blocks Rapid Spin such as Oricorio-G, Silvally-Fairy, Froslass, or Jellicent.

========

Other Options
=============

===================

Burns from Will-O-Wisp and Scald are also a problem, since they wear Hitmonchan down further, and force offensive sets to lose offensive pressure.

**Psychic-types**: Because Hitmochan lacks super effective coverage to hit them, Pokemon such as Claydol and Alolan Raichu can easily pivot into Hitmonchan's Fighting-type moves and force it out with their super effective coverage.

[OVERVIEW]

Hitmonchan is a solid Pokemon in PU thanks to its amazing role compression. It's an offensive Rapid Spinner spinner that threatens many of the tier's Stealth Rock setters such as Regirock, Alolan Sandslash, and Aggron while being bulky enough to act as a blanket check to some of the best specially offensive Pokemon such as Aurorus, and it can act as a revenge killer thanks to Mach Punch.

Moves
========

Set Details
========

The given EV investment lets Hitmonchan always OHKO maximum HP Alolan Sandslash with Drain Punch while still having a good chance of being 2HKOed by (avoiding the 2HKO from? wording is pretty odd otherwise) Timid Choice Scarf Aurorus's Blizzard after hail and Stealth Rock damage. Iapapa Berry gives Hitmonchan an extra form of recovery without relying on Drain Punch. This is especially helpful after switching into entry hazards and powerful Pokemon often.

Usage Tips
========

Hitmonchan can try to pivot into Pokemon such as Crygonal, Audino, and Eelektross, but you should be cautious, (AC) because Hitmonchan should still try to be as healthy as possible so it can continue clearing entry hazards for its team.

========

Moves

Thunder Punch is a good move for Hitmonchan because it can deal super effective damage to bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Qwilfish, which can otherwise spinblock it Hitmonchan and set Spikes, respectively. Stone Edge can punish Pokemon like Oricorio-E, Scyther, and Froslass that attempt to switch into Hitmonchan.

Set Details

Maximum Speed ensures that Hitmonchan will outpace Timid Omastar before Shell Smash and Timid Aurorus.

Usage Tips
========

Clearing entry hazards is still an important role that Hitmonchan provides, albeit although it isn't that durable because of its lack of bulk investment and the recoil from Life Orb. If hazards are clear, then Hitmonchan should focus on wallbreaking and revenge killing.

Team Options
========

========

Other Options
=============

===================
