Tiering Lead
[OVERVIEW]
Masquerain stands out as the premier Sticky Web user in the tier, as it is able to muscle through Xatu and pressure a myriad of other entry hazard removers. Its combination of a good ability and an impressive movepool allows it to be the best Sticky Web setter in the tier, able to keep up offensive pressure on fast-paced offensive teams. However, it has a 4x weakness to Rock-type moves and, as a result, a 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, making it easy to pressure outside of early-game, which makes it harder for Masquerain to set up Sticky Web if it does not lead immediately. Furthermore, it is fairly weak prior to boosting with Quiver Dance and extremely one dimensional due to its viability deriving from solely Sticky Web.

Moves
========
Sticky Web is Masquerain's main niche in the tier, allowing it to slow down opposing Pokemon when they switch in. Quiver Dance allows it to do more than just set up Sticky Web and faint in a game. STAB Bug Buzz hits the most targets in conjunction with the coverage moves Masquerain can choose from. It is also useful for hitting common NU Pokemon like Slowking and Sneasel along with giving it good neutral coverage alongside its coverage options. Hydro Pump hits many targets that Bug Buzz misses out on, including a large portion of common Stealth Rock setters such as Steelix and Rhydon, as well as hitting Incineroar. Alternatively, Ice Beam gives Masquerain the best odds of OHKOing Xatu after a Quiver Dance, which would otherwise be able to use its ability to bounce Sticky Webs back to Masquerain's side.
Set Details
========
Maximum Special Attack investment allows Masquerain to pressure other Pokemon after it has set up Sticky Web. It also allows Masquerain to scare other Pokemon out in order to set Sticky Web up without taking damage. Maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature gives Masquerain a leg up on Pokemon like Decidueye and lets +1 Masquerain Speed tie with Choice Scarf Passimian or even outspeed it with Sticky Web up. A Modest nature can be used in conjunction with Ice Beam in order to get a guaranteed OHKO on any Xatu, but the roll is already heavily in Masquerain's favor. Focus Sash is the item of choice, as it allows Masquerain to set up Sticky Web without the fear of being OHKOed by anything faster. Intimidate is Masquerain's only useful ability and allows it to lower the Attack of threatening Pokemon like Pangoro and Dhelmise.
Usage Tips
========
Masquerain is best used as a lead to get Sticky Web up as soon as possible. If the opponent has a Defogger or spinner, it may be best to keep Masquerain around just in case it has to set Sticky Web up again. It can also use Quiver Dance on a predicted switch into Xatu, gaining momentum off of what would otherwise be Sticky Web getting bounced back. Once it has set up Sticky Web, Masquerain can use Quiver Dance or just fire off attacks in order to weaken the opposing team. Moreover, it can also be used as a pivot with Intimidate in order to let a teammate come in more safely.
Team Options
========
Masquerain works best with Pokemon such as Medicham, Vikavolt, and Pangoro that can make use of the opponent's team being slowed down as they switch in if they are grounded. Ghost-types like Mismagius, Rotom, and Dhelmise that can stop opposing Pokemon from removing Sticky Web are also useful. Fast Taunt users like Samurott and Mismagius are also helpful, as they can stop slower Defoggers from removing Sticky Web, allowing them to stay up longer in the game. Other Pokemon commonly seen on hyper offense like Incineroar, Sceptile, and Heliolisk can also work well on teams with Masquerain, as they can avoid being revenge killed by common Choice Scarf users once Sticky Web is up.

Other Options
=============
Stun Spore can potentially be used in order to slow down the opposing team as well as hit Sticky Web-immune Pokemon, but it is generally less effective than Quiver Dance. Haze can allow Masquerain to prevent any setup Pokemon that may try to take advantage of it from setting up, but there are very little that can actually do so thanks to the threat of Quiver Dance.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Entry Hazard Removal**: Entry hazard removal forces Masquerain to be more cautious about serving its role, as it may all be for naught once the opponent clears Sticky Web, making the game 6-5 as if Masquerain had not done anything of note. This also includes Xatu, which, while it cannot actually OHKO it, forces Masquerain to be careful when clicking Sticky Web, as there is always the chance for it to be bounced back by Magic Bounce.
**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: While they may not stop Masquerain from setting up Sticky Web, Pokemon like Vaporeon and Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary can stop Masquerain from sweeping a team with Quiver Dance. Even if it does manage to set one up, the damage dealt to these Pokemon is usually negligible, allowing them to defeat Masquerain before a large amount of damage is done.
**Fire-types**: While they do not like taking Hydro Pump, Pokemon like Magmortar, Delphox, and Incineroar can bring Masquerain down to its Focus Sash and wall any sets that choose to run Ice Beam.
