[OVERVIEW]

Masquerain stands out as the premier Sticky Web user in the tier, as it is able to muscle through Xatu and pressure a myriad of other entry hazard removers. Its combination of a good ability and an impressive movepool allows it to be the best Sticky Web setter in the tier, able to keep up offensive pressure on fast-paced offensive teams. However, it has a 4x weakness to Rock-type moves and, as a result, a 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, making it easy to pressure outside of early-game, which makes it harder for Masquerain to set up Sticky Web if it does not lead immediately. Furthermore, it is fairly weak prior to boosting with Quiver Dance and extremely one dimensional due to its viability deriving from solely Sticky Web.

Moves
========

Sticky Web is Masquerain's main niche in the tier, allowing it to slow down opposing Pokemon when they switch in. Quiver Dance allows it to do more than just set up Sticky Web and faint in a game. STAB Bug Buzz hits the most targets in conjunction with the coverage moves Masquerain can choose from. It is also useful for hitting common NU Pokemon like Slowking and Sneasel along with giving it good neutral coverage alongside its coverage options. Hydro Pump hits many targets that Bug Buzz misses out on, including a large portion of common Stealth Rock setters such as Steelix and Rhydon, as well as hitting Incineroar. Alternatively, Ice Beam gives Masquerain the best odds of OHKOing Xatu after a Quiver Dance, which would otherwise be able to use its ability to bounce Sticky Webs back to Masquerain's side.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack investment allows Masquerain to pressure other Pokemon after it has set up Sticky Web. It also allows Masquerain to scare other Pokemon out in order to set Sticky Web up without taking damage. Maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature gives Masquerain a leg up on Pokemon like Decidueye and lets +1 Masquerain Speed tie with Choice Scarf Passimian or even outspeed it with Sticky Web up. A Modest nature can be used in conjunction with Ice Beam in order to get a guaranteed OHKO on any Xatu, but the roll is already heavily in Masquerain's favor. Focus Sash is the item of choice, as it allows Masquerain to set up Sticky Web without the fear of being OHKOed by anything faster. Intimidate is Masquerain's only useful ability and allows it to lower the Attack of threatening Pokemon like Pangoro and Dhelmise.

Usage Tips
========

Masquerain is best used as a lead to get Sticky Web up as soon as possible. If the opponent has a Defogger or spinner, it may be best to keep Masquerain around just in case it has to set Sticky Web up again. It can also use Quiver Dance on a predicted switch into Xatu, gaining momentum off of what would otherwise be Sticky Web getting bounced back. Once it has set up Sticky Web, Masquerain can use Quiver Dance or just fire off attacks in order to weaken the opposing team. Moreover, it can also be used as a pivot with Intimidate in order to let a teammate come in more safely.

Team Options
========

Masquerain works best with Pokemon such as Medicham, Vikavolt, and Pangoro that can make use of the opponent's team being slowed down as they switch in if they are grounded. Ghost-types like Mismagius, Rotom, and Dhelmise that can stop opposing Pokemon from removing Sticky Web are also useful. Fast Taunt users like Samurott and Mismagius are also helpful, as they can stop slower Defoggers from removing Sticky Web, allowing them to stay up longer in the game. Other Pokemon commonly seen on hyper offense like Incineroar, Sceptile, and Heliolisk can also work well on teams with Masquerain, as they can avoid being revenge killed by common Choice Scarf users once Sticky Web is up.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Stun Spore can potentially be used in order to slow down the opposing team as well as hit Sticky Web-immune Pokemon, but it is generally less effective than Quiver Dance. Haze can allow Masquerain to prevent any setup Pokemon that may try to take advantage of it from setting up, but there are very little that can actually do so thanks to the threat of Quiver Dance.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Entry hazard removal forces Masquerain to be more cautious about serving its role, as it may all be for naught once the opponent clears Sticky Web, making the game 6-5 as if Masquerain had not done anything of note. This also includes Xatu, which, while it cannot actually OHKO it, forces Masquerain to be careful when clicking Sticky Web, as there is always the chance for it to be bounced back by Magic Bounce.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: While they may not stop Masquerain from setting up Sticky Web, Pokemon like Vaporeon and Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary can stop Masquerain from sweeping a team with Quiver Dance. Even if it does manage to set one up, the damage dealt to these Pokemon is usually negligible, allowing them to defeat Masquerain before a large amount of damage is done.

**Fire-types**: While they do not like taking Hydro Pump, Pokemon like Magmortar, Delphox, and Incineroar can bring Masquerain down to its Focus Sash and wall any sets that choose to run Ice Beam.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Masquerian stands out as the premier Sticky Web user in the tier because it can get Sticky Web up versus Xatu teams and pressures commonly entry hazard setters with Hydro Pump
  • It has a combination of a good ability and movepool which allow it to be the best web setter in the tier and for these reasons
  • It has a 4x weakness to Rock-types, and as a result Stealth Rock as well making it easy to pressure outside of the early game I'm not too sure how relevant a weakness to Stealth Rock is given this is a suicide lead, although if you do keep your Sash intact then yeah I could see it having a presence later on. Maybe clarify a bit further
  • It is very weak prior to Quiver Dances, and only really serves one role in setting up Sticky Web any implications this has?

  • Sticky Web is the main niche that Masquerian has in the tier, allowing it to slow down opposing Pokemon when they switch in
  • Quiver Dance allows it to do more than just set up webs and die in a game, giving it the ability to do more than just set webs in any given game you've said the same thing twice. I'd elaborate on how it lets Masquerain bop Xatu at +1 particularly if running Ice Beam
  • Bug Buzz is the main stab move of choice, as it hits the most targets in conjunction with the secondary moves Masquerian can choose from. It also is useful for hitting common NU Pokemon like Slowbro and Sneasel. just say it gives Masquerain good neutral coverage alongside its coverage options
  • Hydro Pump hits many targets that Bug Buzz misses out on, including a large portion of common Stealth Rock users. Main targets include Steelix, Rhydon, and Incineroar.
  • Ice Beam gives Masquerian the best odds to kill a Xatu in one hit, which would otherwise be able to use its ability to bounce Sticky Webs back onto Masquerians side. I'm assuming you mean at +1? Clarify.

Set Details
========

  • Max Special Attack allows Masquerian to pressure other pokemon after it has set up Sticky Web. It also allows Masquerian to scare other Pokemon out in order to set Sticky Web without taking damage. feel like it more has to do with the coverage moves Masquerain has
  • Max Speed and a Timid Nature gives Masquerian a leg up on pokemon like Decidueye, and speed tie with other base 80 pokemon like Passimian. allows you to outspeed scarf pass after webs!!
  • A modest nature can be used in conjunction with Ice Beam in order to get a guaranteed OHKO on any Xatu. eh 7/8 chance to bop Xatu as it is at +1
  • Focus Sash is the item of choice as it allows Masquerian to set up Sticky Web without fear of dying in one hit to anything faster.
  • Intimidate is Masquerians only useful ability, and it allows it to lower the attack of threatening Pokemon like Incineroar and Passimian.
Usage Tips
========

  • Masquerian is best used as a lead that can get up Sticky Web as soon as possible.
  • If the opponent has a defogger or rapid spinner, it may be safest to keep Masquerian around just in case it has to set them up again.
  • something about quiver dancing if you predict xatu to switch in (this is particularly effective when running ice beam)
  • Once it has set up Sticky Web, it can Quiver Dance or just fire off attacks in order to weaken the opposing team.
  • It can also be used as a pivot with Intimidate in order to let a teammate come in more safely.
Team Options
========

  • Masquerian works best with Pokemon that can make use of the opponents team losing a stage of speed on switch in if they are grounded.
  • This includes slow attackers like Incineroar, Vikavolt, Vanilluxe among others.
  • Ghost types that can stop opposing Pokemon from spinning are also useful, this includes Mismagius, Rotom, and Dhelmise among others.
  • Fast taunt users are also helpful, as they can stop slower defoggers from removing Sticky Web, and allowing them to stay up for longer in the game. Pokemon like Samurott and Mismagius are useful in this role.
  • considering you'd see this mon on ho builds p often, i'd like to see more emphasis on that throughout here. rn this seems more like your typical balance team

Other Options
=============

  • A more defensive Quiver Dance set could be run with some bulk, and Roost over Sticky Web, but it is generally less appealing that Vivillon due to it being a defensive sweeper that is 4x weak to rocks.
  • Stun Spore could be used in order to slow down the opposing team even more as well as hit Flying Types and Levitate Pokemon that are immune to Sticky Web, but it is generally less effective than Quiver Dance.
  • Haze can allow it to quell any set up Pokemon that may try to take advantage of Masquerian, but there is very little that can actually do so on Quiver Dance. bad
Checks and Counters
===================

**Xatu**: While Xatu cannot actually OHKO Masquerian, it forces Masquerian to be careful when clicking Sticky Web as there is always the chance for it to be be bounced back by Magic Bounce, therefore slowing down the Pokemon on Masquerians side of the field. I find it odd you'd run a Sticky Web setter that beats Xatu and then list Xatu as not only a Check/Counter, but the most prominent one. I don't think this is worth including, although you can change the Hazard Removal section to just "Hazard Control" and throw in a Xatu mention here.

**Hazard Removal**: Hazard removal forces Masquerian to be more cautious about serving its role, as it may all be for naught once the opponent Defogs or Spins the hazards away, essentially making the game 6-5 as Masquerian had not done anything of note in the game.

If Iapapa allowed Masquerain better odds of surviving things like Rhydon Rock Blast, this could have some better utility, but a single hit of -1 Rock Blast does over 50% while Piloswine's Icicle Crash has a 3/8 chance to OHKO through, so I'm not really sure what Iapapa is supposed to serve aside from just 'providing pinch longevity', and even then Sitrus might probably be better for this in the context of Stealth Rock.

Waterium Z could use a mention in Other Options, though note that it is not easily affordable. +0 Hydro Vortex can OHKO Rhydon as well as offensive variants of Incineroar, Magmortar, and Diancie, whereas +1 Hydro Vortex OHKOes things like Xatu, max HP Rotom, offensive Garbodor, and defensive Diancie. Hydro Vortex is also Masquerain's best way of pressuring Silvally-Steel.

Pinch longevity is really it, yeah. I don't think using it as merely a lead webs setter just to sack it turn 3 is a good idea, I think it has merit a sweeper in the late game. Although, Sitrus does sound more viable thanks to Stealth Rock.

**Fire-types**: While they do not like taking Hydro Pump, Pokemon like Magmortar, Delphox, and Incineroar can bring Masquerain down to its Focus Sash and wall any sets that choose to run Ice Beam.

However, it has a 4x weakness to Rock-type moves and, (AC) as a result, (AC) a 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, making it easy to pressure outside of early-game, which makes it harder for Masquerain to set up Sticky Web if it does not lead immediately. Furthermore, It it is fairly weak prior to boosting with Quiver Dance and is extremely one-(RH)dimensional due to its sole viability deriving from solely Sticky Web.

Moves
========

Sticky Web is the main niche that Masquerain has Masquerain's main niche in the tier, allowing it to slow down opposing Pokemon when they switch in. Quiver Dance allows it to do more than just set up webs Sticky Web and faint in a game. STAB Bug Buzz is the STAB move of choice, as it hits the most targets in conjunction with the coverage moves Masquerain can choose from. It is also useful for hitting common NU Pokemon like Slowking and Sneasel along with giving it good neutral coverage alongside its coverage options. Hydro Pump hits many targets that Bug Buzz misses out on, including a large portion of common Stealth Rock users setters such as Steelix and Rhydon, as well as hitting Incineroar. Alternatively, Ice Beam gives Masquerain the best odds to of OHKOing Xatu after a Quiver Dance, which would otherwise be able to use its ability to bounce Sticky Webs back onto Masquerain's side.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack investment allows Masquerain to pressure other Pokemon after it has set up Sticky Web. It also allows Masquerain to scare other Pokemon out in order to set Sticky Web up without taking damage. Maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature gives Masquerain a leg up on Pokemon like Decidueye and lets +1 Masquerain Speed tie with Choice Scarf Passimian, even outspeeding it with Sticky Web up. Intimidate is Masquerain's only useful ability, and it allows Masquerain to lower the Attack of threatening Pokemon like Pangoro and Dhelmise.

Usage Tips
========

Masquerain is best used as a lead to get up Sticky Web up as soon as possible. If the opponent has a Defogger or spinner, it may be best to keep Masquerain around just in case it has to set Sticky Web up again. It can also use Quiver Dance on a predicted switch into Xatu, gaining momentum off of what would otherwise be Sticky Web getting bounced back. Once it has set up Sticky Web, it Masquerain can use Quiver Dance or just fire off attacks in order to weaken the opposing team. Moreover, it can also be used as a pivot with Intimidate in order to let a teammate come in more safely.

Team Options
========

Masquerain works best with Pokemon such as Incineroar, Vikavolt, and Pangoro that can make use of the opponent's team being slowed down as they switch in if they are grounded. Ghost-types like Mismagius, Rotom, and Dhelmise that can stop opposing Pokemon from removing Sticky Web are also useful. Fast Taunt users like Samurott and Mismagius are also helpful, as they can stop slower Defoggers from removing Sticky Web, allowing them to stay up for longer in the game. Other Pokemon commonly seen on hyper offense like Incineroar, (you already used Incineroar before so maybe use a different example, since you said "other Pokemon") Sceptile, and Heliolisk can also work well on teams with Masquerain, as they can avoid being revenge killed by common Choice Scarf users once Sticky Web is up.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Stun Spore can potentially be used in order to slow down the opposing team as well as hit Sticky Web-immune Pokemon, but it is generally less effective than Quiver Dance. Haze can allow Masquerain to prevent any setup Pokemon that may try to take advantage of it from setting up, but there is are very little that can actually do so thanks to the threat of Quiver Dance.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Entry hazard removal forces Masquerain to be more cautious about serving its role, as it may all be for naught once the opponent clears Sticky Web, making the game 6-5 as if Masquerain had not done anything of note. This also includes Xatu, which,(AC) while it cannot actually OHKO Masquerain, it forces Masquerain to be careful when clicking Sticky Web, as there is always the chance for it to be be bounced back by Magic Bounce.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: While they may not stop it Masquerain from setting up Sticky Web, Pokemon like Vaporeon and Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary can stop Masquerain from sweeping a team with Quiver Dance.
