Questions with getting started with making custom Pokémon for Pokémon Showdown

So recently me and some friends got some surprise art for Christmas, with that we each got custom trainer and a signature Pokémon that can battle bond. With some talk in the group, we thought it would be really fun to battle each other with these custom Pokémon with battle bond. So I looked at the GitHub for Pokémon Showdown and there's some information but not a 100% ideal documentation guide for what I want to do. I know that I need to make my own server but beyond that I feel puzzled what to do from there. Looking online didn't help much at all. I found an old subreddit for Pokémon Showdown modding but it's been inactive for over 2 years and can't make a post there without approval. So I want to ask if there's a good place/discord for making custom Pokémon and or good documentation for what I want to do and for getting started with making full on custom Pokemon.
