HI MODS PLS FEEL FREE TO EDIT THIS THREAD TO MAKE IT BETTER ETC

Hello everyone, at the beginning of SPL I proposed to all UU players that we should make a compendium of every uu team that was used throughout SPL. I wanted to do this because I think it's a pretty good way for the community to see just how much tournament teams and play differ from regular ladder play. I know at least three other players who have showed interest in posting here, but I can't fault anyone who doesn't.

I'll be using this OP as my compendium and I'll reserve 9 posts after this in order to use one for each SPL team. If they get filled cool, if not then a mod can delete them in a couple days.

Description: Week one I was up against bugzinator, a player whom I didn't know much about. I decided to look at his SPL 6 replays in order to get an idea of the kind of player he was, and my finding indicated that he pretty much always ran a Fairy-type and that he liked balance more than anything. For some reason I had pretty bad builder's block during this week so I couldn't come up with anything crazy creative, so I just went with Entei + Nidoqueen as balance-breakers that shit on Fairies, added a Blastoise for hazard control and more breaking power and filled in the holes with more balance-breakers from there. The original team had a Scarf Hydreigon over Specs Zapdos, but that version was ridiculously weak to Suicune, so I went with Specs Zapdos last minute. I went in knowing I had no Psychic or Ghost resists, but I figured at absolute worse, I'd face a CM Cresselia which I could pressure with Entei and Whimsicott--never did the thought of AV Slowking cross my mind, and we all know how that went. I was really happy with the way I played that game, however, since I really did the best possible job at maximizing my chances of winning, so I went into Week 2 with a ton more confidence.

Description: Week 2 I was up vs Hikari, an old friend of mine whom I actually have a ton of respect for as a player, despite all my shitposting against him. This team is probably my favorite I built all SPL and it kinda emerged from a gimmick. The triple Intimidate thing was actually the plan from the beginning, because I wanted some way to merge my offense into my defense to try to counteract any possible gimmicks he came up with (which he likes to do). Sam half-jokingly suggested CB Snorlax, and when we tested it, it did ridiculous amounts of work, so it stuck. Blastoise was once again added for bulky offense hazard control, and then... Scarf Whimsicott, lol. While it didn't perform how it was supposed to in the actual game, this thing's actually really fucking good on this type of team. Higher level players pretty much always expect the Encore, so they switch anyway, making it not as crucial to have (and you still have Memento for tight spots), but the idea was to Swtcheroo something and Memento it, locking it into a -2 attack and proceeding to set up on it with one of the Dragon Dancers. It also acted as a failsafe to DD Salamence, a Pokemon this team had a bit of trouble with and I knew Hikari liked to use.

Description: Week 3 vs dodmen was a weird match to build for. I studied dodmen's teambulding tendencies and noticed that he gets obliterated by SubCM Raikou, a pokemon which obviously isn't in the tier, but the combination of >108 Speed + SubCM wrecked a huge part of his teams (mind you, this was before Alakazam dropped, so that was not an option). I spent a good ~2 hours trying to find something in the lower tiers that could perform a role like this and it wasn't until CrashinBoomBang noticed Espeon in the teambuilder that we hit gold. We ran some calcs and saw how powerful this Pokemon was, then made a team around it and it performed well in tests, so I went with it. I wanted to have a lot of Speed control on this team, given dodmen't tendency to gravitate towards offense, so I went with double priority plus a Scarfer. I also really liked the idea of Mamoswine for breaking + RD Megapert for sweeping, so I went with it and decided against even having Stealth Rock. This is a cool strategy I employed once before in the semi-finals of Grand Slam 2 vs Heist, where I bluffed Stealth Rock Groudon and proceeded to set up Swords Dance and Rock Polish on his Forretress switchin. Point being, bluffing Stealth Rock and setting up instead is a cool strategy that works nicely in high level play.

Description: Week 4 vs Omfuga was probably the single most straightforward counter-style I've ever built. Omfuga's teambuilding tendencies meant his Entei switchins were also his Heracross switchins, so my brain immediately gravitated towards CB Entei + Scarf Heacross, especially given that he doesn't really like Choice Scarfers, so running a slower Scarfer was okay vs him. I ran taunt on everything to prevent recovery and set up for the Scarf Heracross sweep. The team he ended up bringing wasn't his typical fat core + choice offense thing, but it still folded to Scarf Heracross, so that ended up working out pretty nicely.

Description: Week 5 vs Hogg was pretty much the exact opposite. I had no idea what Hogg liked to use or what his tendencies were, so I just went with a bog standard FlogCune balance with a bit more offense splashed in. Funny story, I ended up using FlorgCune twice more after this and lost every single time I used it. Twice to hax, but still, fuck Florges. The idea was simply to go in with something that had at least a neutral matchup vs anything he could possibly bring, which worked out, but unfortunately Draco Meteor is only 90% accurate :(

Description: Week 6 vs Christo. the gr8 was kinda weird. It was a really busy week for me so I didn't have any time to prep, but I figured he'd bring his standard Florges semi-stall crap as always... just didn't have time to build anything, so I just recycled a team that I figured would have a good matchup vs him and edited a couple things. I think I did a pretty good job of this, with his team's answers to Entei typically being limited to Swampert and Tentacruel and his answers to DD Gyarados being... him realizing Gyarados should always be Jolly? However, I played the actual game really badly and threw away my matchup advantage on turn 1. I got bailed by hax and a really funny meme come out of it though so it was totally worth it.

Description: Week 7 vs xMarth brought me this beauty of a team. This is my second favorite team I built this SPL because it uses the actually amazing Milotic and a forgotten threat in Reuniclus--both of which performed amazingly during the actual game, as expected. Looking at xMarth's team history, his lack of ability to punish Reuniclus was obvious, so I went with it. Flamethrower LO Hydreigon was another cool piece of tech designed to OHKO 0/0 Cobalion and 252/0 Reuniclus. SD Heracross was a nice wallbreaker I had been wanting to use since before SPL started and I decided to finally bust it out, since Marth's answers to it were typically... none. This was probably the most masterful display of c-styling in the entirety of SPL and it paid off big time.

Description: Week 8 vs teal6, who was 7-0 at the time was interesting. His team style was pretty varied, so I decided to go with FlorgCune balance again and just outplay instead of trying to c-style. Passho Berry Krook was a nice surprise I had prepared to try to catch SD + Aqua Jetters and Mega Sharpedo off guard, since this team was pretty weak to those. I also figured he'd be the one to try Slurpuff vs me since it pretty much shit on me the past couple of weeks, and I wanted to run Spikes + Alakazam, so Forretress was a good choice. This was easily the best UU game of SPL, followed closely by me vs Hikari, and I legitimately gained so much respect for teal throughout SPL, but especially after he beat me. Funnily enough, had I actually changed the team to the week 9 version you'll see below like I /almost/ did, I don't think teal would have had a chance lol.

Description: Week 9 vs Calloflochie was a "ok I really don't know what to bring, but he's been using teams filled with all types of different holes, so I'll just run balance and outplay him" kind of week. I did, but CallofLucky kicked in and both my CMers, which swet him clean, got crit. Unfortunate week, and unfortunate SPL run for FlorgCune on my part.

So that's that. Mind you these aren't teams you should be just picking up and laddering with, as most of them weren't designed for consistency, but for a literal single use vs a specific opponent with specific building patterns.

What better way to start my SPL debut than with a former D-rank 'mon that people used to claim was as bad as Scrafty and Flygon? From looking at the teams kokoloko liked, while he built fairly different teams each week, he did have a few tendencies - he liked leaning on wallbreakers like M-Blaster, Nidoqueen, Hydreigon and Mixmence to break down balance teams, and his hazard support tended to be fairly minimal. I went with Milotic, as it was a great answer to most of those threats while also giving me a soft answer to Gyarados and Alakazam, a full stop to bulky CMers like Suicune/Florges and more. I built a fairly standard balance team around that, with some Speed brought on by M-Sceptile and Infernape. Protect got tossed onto Mega-Sceptile over the more standard Giga Drain because the team sometimes struggled getting a reliable evo off (especially with stuff like Alakazam, where I'd have to rely on a Speed tie at best), and because Calm Milotic alone was a little too soft of an answer to Gyarados for my liking.

Anyhow, Milotic is actually kinda cool in this meta, and way better than some other bulky Waters that end up getting use like Vaporeon. Later kokoloko used it to beat xMarth, and xMarth used it to beat bugzy, so I'd like to think I started a trend.

This is honestly the only team I made for SPL that I just straight up wasn't happy with. I wanted to build a team that relied on aggressive hazard control while putting on a lot of offensive pressure. I ended up building a kind of cool sashspam team that relied on Sash Cloyster and Sash Venomoth to give me two potent sweepers. The team had some interesting points but it was a hell of a risk - it did really well against some stuff that teal6 liked, but it also had some really poor matchups, too - and I ended up revising the team on the morning of the game to turn it into a more or less standard offense team with a couple of cute surprises (like Chople X-Scissor Cobalion and mixed Protect Absol). But... eh, I wasn't happy with the team, and I wish I'd either stuck with the more aggressive original draft or else spent more time building this style of offense.

Nothing too much else to say about the team except that I think Chople Cobalion is pretty cool, as things like Alakazam (who just misses an OHKO with LO Psychic) and Mega-Sceptile are forced to rely on Focus Blast to take Cobalion out. X-Scissor was IronBullet's suggestion, since my modified version of the team struggled with bulky Psychics, and it works out really well here.

This is probably one of my favorite teams this SPL. I love the combination of T-Spikes + Dugtrio, especially because Christo tended to prefer to either forego hazard control altogether or use spinners like Tentacruel. Basically I tried to build a bulky team that could play as a sort of rough semistall in the early game until T-Spikes down, then overwhelm the opponent later in the game with its three sweepers. HP Psychic went on over Haze because Christo has been really into bulky Toxicroak lately, and relying on Dugtrio was a pretty poor way to deal with it. SD Mega-Sceptile was a cool cleaner against a lot of stuff that Christo tended to like, since with a little bit of chip it could take out Florges at +2. Lum Cobalion went in as a sweeper that could beat some bulky CMers and also lure Sableye, while CM Roar Suicune is always a monster even if people have been mostly using other sets lately.

Christo surprised me by bringing Defog Mence, which I hadn't expected (it has been a long time since I've seen him use a Defogger other than Empoleon), but speedy CM Roar Suicune just did a tremendous amount of work, so it was all good.

WEEK 8 (v dodmen): Rock 'n' Roll Redux

I really like this team too. It ended up superficially looking similar to my Rock 'n' Roll Suicide team, although it actually ends up playing totally differently. The basic idea here was that most offensive teams were relying on Mega-Aero or sdef Escavalier as their primary way of dealing with Alakazam, so I decided to build an offense team around Charti Gyarados and CM Alakazam to punish that. I figured that dodmen was going to go with one of the bulky offense teams he felt most comfortable playing, since his team really needed that win, and that tended to be how he played the strongest. Lunar Dance Cress was a nice glue for the team, pivoting into a ton of attacks without losing momentum. (Psyshock went in over Psychic because it is guaranteed to break Gyarados' Sub, while Psychic required an absurdly high roll - fuck Gyarados, man.)

I actually think I nailed the matchup really well... but unfortunately my complete inability to land moves put me in a really poor position. I still managed to pull in a surprisingly close game (a moderately low roll on that +2 Close Combat meant I still would have pulled out the win at the end), but it just wasn't in the cards.

Hikari was a pretty difficult person to build for, since he switches between playstyles and often builds little surprises into his teams. I decided to go with a strong semistall team built around offensive pressure from CM Reuniclus and CM Florges. A lot of teams tend to slap something like Sableye on their team and assume they don't have to worry about Reuniclus anymore, and with stuff like T-Spikes and Florges, I felt pretty confident I could wear down any Sableyes. With Colbur I could set up comfortably without worrying too much about strong Dark types like Absol/CB Krook/LO Hydreigon.

Anyhow, not too much to say about the team, except that Reuniclus is a beast and a half and people who claim that it's bad in this meta are crazy. I ended up not even using it in the match, which is funny considering that it actually won from turn one (although I didn't actually know that until he revealed that Whimsi lacked Encore and Suicune lacked Roar). This is a pretty standard semistall team for me though so there isn't really much else I can add.

Looking at everything Lochie and Ice Tea built this year, their hazard control tended to be minimal and they relied on really soft answers to CM Cresselia like Doublade (who absolutely hates Spikes) and Hydreigon. I decided to build around Spikes and CM + TWave Cress, which manages to punish offense with T-Wave early game while still giving me a solid win condition for late-game. Rocky Helmet Krook and Florges covered most of its weaknesses and the team kind of built itself from there, with SDef Forry for Spikes and a tertiary Zam check, RoarTalk Suicune as a blanket answer to setup sweepers, and Mega-Sceptile doing what Mega-Sceptile does, mainly shitting on offense and being a dick to switch into.

The team worked out well, and actually serves as a nice bookend to the teams I built, since it bears more than a passing resemblance to the team I used against koko in my first week in SPL. It can struggle a bit with stall, but I figured it would be incredibly unlikely that lochie would bring stall to semis (especially because most of my other teams were not particularly stall weak, and some of them had a downright great matchup versus stall).

most interesting set on the team is probably haxorus, marth really likes maggron / whimsicott / grounded poison (usually tentacruel) core so haxorus was a better choice than mence as a DDer in this case. mental herb allows me to either avoid the encore on dd or after an EQ or something, unfortunately the game didn't turn out that way. mamo gave me a volt switchin + breaker and a rocker, zap was a maero lure, sceptile for speed and bulky waters, rotom as a pivot and mamo check, cobalion served as setup sweeper that could come at different angles depending on what he brought.

balls out offensive, emp used so i didn't have to put SR on pert and could defog and hazards in one slot. mence is incredibly dangerous and given one turn can change the tide of a game completely, sab was a very general slot that i intended to use as a pivot, cloyster the coolest thing on the team, was used b/c in general omfuga will run something like snorlax or porygon2 which avoids the OHKO at +2 but can't take 2 +2 hits so i figured cloyster in general is going to only ever get one shot at setup and it's never really an ideal situation so i could gamble on the 50 / 50 if needed or w/e. it just died anyway

CM spam with beedrill as a pivot. pre-zam most of the UU players had a bit of a nape weakness which didn't seem to be super exploited and i love using nape so i thought a NP set would be pretty cool. it put in moderate amount of work throughout the game so i was happy with it. suicune and cress give a really good defensive backbone, again emp consolidates a few things i need it to do and i dont need pert as a choiced volt deterrant cuz i have krook

had a feeling he would bring full stall vs me so i used sub cm chandy which ended up having pretty good matchup, slurpuff was a hedge btwn that given that w/ one nice turn it could flip a game around vs balance or offense so i would just have to focus on creating that turn + paired with chandy it "makes sense" that chandy is scarf and memento. scep again bc i liked the number of things it could do in one spot, same with emp again repeating that pattern, gyara a pretty standard set

more patterns repeated but zams in the tier now, cress serves as my zam check and scarf pursuit hera an interesting way to get rid of it if need be. hogg was using a lot of sableye so i just hedged my bets and made it guts, its hard for hera to get a meaningful moxie sweep anyway so i didn't think that was incredibly necessary for this game and it'd be fun to have guts boosted scarf CCs if i managed to snag a burn at some point. hadn't used entei yet and its a fun breaker when unprepared for especially, didn't get a ton of usage but served as a decent deterrant. i use mega sceptile for the fortieth time

really fun game, most notable thing here was the venomoth set which didn't get the usage it needed, kind of a theme when i bring something cool tho unfortunately. back to pert this time which is a mon i rely heavily on just bc of all the cool things it does and matches up well again. double dance coba returns, just something that i felt had been really underused and could make a splash if given a shot. absol was a mon i hadn't used yet and ended up being nice to have, follows my trend of using mons that can flip a game w/ only 1 turn of use as opposed to having more general influence throughout

my most fun game in SPL without a doubt, back to mega scep but use swampert this time for a better aero buffer than emp would provide. the team has some flaws built in in order to more strongly emphasize its strengths, weakness to fairies being a notable one b/c i just thought that if he brought a fairy it wouldn't be one that would tend to get a ton of hits off like florges. band champ is a really hard mon to play against, slurpuff can utilize the 50 50 confusion turn if necessary and conditions are met to really impact the game, hydrei interestingly lures in florges which gives champ the free turn w/ the heavy slam predict, and even if you get it wrong its a coinflip either way

pretty standard balance, a team like this would perform perhaps better in the hands of a player that is not me. you can see the cores as they would work together here, good type coverage unfortunately they are all pretty able to be muscled past, first time using maero in SPL cementing my idea that it's not the greatest of mons but ymmv. more CM spam but without the surrounding players to give the CMers room to shine. no hazard control and i ended up facing spikes so that sucked too, not worth the tradeoff and a team like this should almost always have control

Built this team around Nidoking; after watching marth's replays and noticing a glaring weakness to it on a majority of his teams. Put a Volt-turn core of banded ape + scarf mowtom on there to give as many safe switch ins to Nido as possible. Then added a Toxic + Tpunch shuca Metagross rocker to help with Gyarados and cripple Slowking, 2 mons that Marth has brought a couple times before. Noticed a pretty big weakness to fire types and needed hazard removal so Defog Mence was used. Haban berry was added after some testing to help alleviate pressure from dragons. Suit aero is suit aero.

Taunt Wisp Chandy is an interesting set that we chose to cripple and break holes into Hikari's predicted Florges Aero balance. Ironically enough, this team turned out to be Florges balance as well with Cune + Mandi for defensive support and hazard removal. Changed Cune to Extrasensory 16 SpA last minute to do 99% min to Croak which would have done major damage to the team without Extrasens. Then there's Rocks Mamo for more breaking power and Croak to eat up fat waters.

Thinking about what dodmen has brought before and what kind of player he is, I predicted him to bring some sort of offensively oriented team. So to counteract his own offense, I brought a Tailwind offense team which generally matches up well against traditional offenses. 4 attacks offensive WATER SPOUT Blastoise over spin to just hit as hard as possible. The rest is pretty self explanatory, 2 TW setters and 4 heavy hitters to keep up the pressure.

Description: Week 1 I brought a comfortable offense with NP Ape supported by Pursuiters, Aero gets rid of Ape's offensive checks and Krook gets rid of its counters (Slowking, Jellicent, Cress) and those 3 were supported by Lunar Dance Cress. Overall I wasn't extremely happy with this team, but I was even more disappointed by how I played the game. Last minute change from Ice Beam to Flash Cannon on Empoleon (I had Abomasnow in mind particularly) turned out to be a huge mistake since he brought 3 dragons lol, if I'd been able to knock out his Druddigon earlier with Ice Beam, Aerodactyl could've put in a lot more work esp. with Lunar Dance support.

Description: An offense that I was a lot happier with than my previous team. I focused on supporting Mega Swampert by pressuring its check with Entei and Crobat. Cobalion was the Stealth Rock and Aerodactyl check, TWave cause DD Lum Mence and DD Feraligatr were both problems. The HP investment on Swampert clutched the game, I believe the spread outspeeds Scarf Hydreigon.

Description: I built this team around offensive Suicune which I thought would give me a really good matchup against koko. Again, I supported it with Healing Wish from Choice Specs Shaymin, which I brought to do a lot of work against a potential Florges balance team. Also of note is this shit-ass Infernape set, don't use it, it's literally pointless and any other Infernape would be better. From there it turned into an HO team with 3 attack Azelf and 4 attack Aero (I had Crunch on this cause Reuniclus was a bit of a pain to deal with) and 4 attack Mamoswine to revenge kill Dragons that setup on Shaymin or Infernape. I think I got the part about offensive Suicune right but unfortunately the team around it just wasn't as good as it should've been, particularly with the lack of Dragon resists.

Description: A revamp of an RMT I made last year, I didn't have any idea what to expect from Tesung so I brought something familiar. This time it's SD 3 attack Cobalion being used over Sub SD Gatr cause that set's pretty bad now, whereas Stone Edge Cobalion is an extremely effective and dangerous sweeper with only a few things that can reliably live a hit or outspeed and OHKO (no Zam at this time). Cobalion is a Hydreigon check and Aero check that the team needed pretty badly. Otherwise, it was the usual TSpikes + Taunt Krook and Crobat with Mega Sharpedo cleaning. Passho Krookodile came in handy, that was a last minute change over Helmet, I actually had offensive cune in mind when I changed it. It was nice to see that this team can still hold up although again, no Zam during week 4 and that would be a massive problem here.

Description: At the beginning of the season I told teal something like "I already know exactly what I'm gonna bring vs you." I had semi-Trick Room in mind at that time but then dice brought full TR against him, I still honestly could've just brought the offensive P2 + Diancie + Pangoro/Machamp team I'd prepared way earlier, but I brought stall instead because looking at teal's last 4 games showed me that this team could've done well in all of them, and also last time we played I brought Shuckle 3 times in a row against him. Unfortunately for me, teal not only anticipated this and brought Sub CM Chandelure, but also played it extremely well.

Description: My favorite team that I used all tournament, I was prepping for bugzinator and decided to bring Sticky Web. The team is simply 3 setup sweepers that work extremely well together, Cobalion and Houndoom work well to keep hazards up, Houndoom is Taunt to stop P2 and Defog. Hoopa is very good under Webs especially with the free turns it can get with Substitute against weak-ish special attackers, especially bulky Psychics, and Mamoswine is the single greatest threat in the tier with Webs up. I really enjoy this team, one of the only two or three that I would recommend other people to use. The game was really fun to play, my opponent made a good play in taking the only opportunity he could to Defog so that he had a chance with his Cobalion.

Description: Another HO team with the better Azelf set as the lead. I still had yet to make a team around Gyara so I went with that. I expected Pearl to bring straight offense so I used AV Machamp which can 1v1 something on offense most of the time (and Bullet Punch to break Alakazam's and put Aerodactyl in range of Infernape) and Choice Scarf Infernape which is a surprisingly excellent cleaner that is extremely annoying to most offense - it definitely came in handy by forcing out Toenail's offensive Whimsicott which was very good against my team and getting the damage I needed on Mega Blastoise under Tailwind. I basically built as anti-offense as I could without resorting to speed control or anything like that. Ironically I usually use HP Poison on this Sceptile (very good to support Gyarados) but changed it to the more standard option after debating a long time :(. Regardless, it was a very good game against Toenail.

Description: Brought Scarf Darmanitan because I thought, like Scarf Infernape, it would be unexpected, but I was proven completely wrong as Hogg brought a Mega Swampert and a Gyarados. The main premise of the team was Toxic Spikes + Gyara and Darm since TSpikes wears down Darm's offensive checks and Gyara's defensive ones a ton. Custap Snorlax got some kills, but only because I was a lucky sack of shit. Not much else to say about the team or game.

Description: Brought Reuniclus against xMarth along with TSpikes and Escavalier (I really like TSpikes Dragalge), I went into the game knowing I was pretty horribly Spike weak but I think xMarth had brought Spikes like 1/8 times or something, but this time he brought Chesnaught which sets up on half the team. I wasn't a huge fan of this team, I really wish I brought the other version I had which had Mega Absol and was generally 10x better (you can look at Kingler12345 vs Bouff in Grand Slam if you want to see the team) but it is what it is.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall I'm a little disappointed in myself for some of the teams that I brought as well as how I played some of the games. It was definitely a whole new experience though, and I got to play some very good games against the most talented players of the tier which I'm always happy that I had the opportunity to do. Looking forward to UUPL now :).

Week 1 vs Kokoloko: I had no idea what to expect vs Koko as I had no real info on him barring a few stray replays, and some useless advice like "he uses balance this gen", so I just decided to play it safe and use something that I'd be fairly comfortable with regardless. Started off with taunt defog mandibuzz + sub cm chandelure as my win con vs slower, more stally teams. After that I decided to add mamo + twave aggron to help break through bulky waters/balance, as well as set up rocks. Lastly I needed to match up a little better vs offensive builds, so went with scarf rotom for revenge killing/momentum, and avest slowking which just seemed to fit best at the time. Not much else for me to say really; I don't know if this team would work too well in the current meta, but it was pretty cool at the time, and managed to get the job done.

Week 2 vs Omfuga: Kind of a weird team now that I look back on it; decided that I wanted to use some kind of volt switch spam that would hopefully match up well vs omfuga's usual kind of builds so I opted for specs cobalion + scarf rotom, with sableye to mess with offense and fat passive mons like P2. After that I patched it up a bit with some bulk from sr mega pert + lo defog mence, and a random venomoth which I really can't explain atm (guess I needed something for fairies which could set up on a leaf storm drop? haha). The team didn't perform too badly looking back on the match, I kinda got outplayed a bit mid game, and sableye was unfortunately burned by flamethrower so I ended up losing that one in a pretty decent battle.

Week 3 vs Hikari: I knew Hikari was a versatile player all round, and someone who's quite into counterstyling so I decided to mix it up a bit and use ho this week. Went for some volt turn spam with sr gligar + beedrill + scarf heliolisk to keep momentum up and do a lot of work vs other offensive builds. After this I added shuca defog empoleon as I needed to keep rocks off and this was the best fit for the job. Lastly I added life orb taunt hydrei + nasty plot azelf for breaking through more defensive builds that I knew hikari was capable of using. I don't think the meta has been kind to this team at all with alakazam dropping and pursuit mons everywhere so I definitely wouldn't recommend trying this out on the ladder.

Week 4 vs pttp: This was kind of a strange week for me as I was facing someone that I had no knowledge on whatsoever which gave me a bit of trouble coming up with ideas. In the end I decided to just play it safe and bring a fairly standard balance squad; the team was made around hc maero + hazards from lo nidoqueen and forre; after this I just patched it up a bit with taunt hydrei + roar cune to break through walls, and make use of my hazards. Lastly I added florges which is pretty self explanatory for this team. P.S please use wish + synthesis (not protect) if you use this squad; I slapped this together in like 5 minutes and protect sucks haha.

Week 5 vs Christo: This was probably one of the more fun teams that I built in spl. Decided to use sd doublade + sacred fire entei to wear down doublade checks. After this I needed u-turn defog mandibuzz to keep hazards off (as well as check special attackers). Next I added sr mega pert to patch up a few weaknesses and get rocks up. Last two pokemon were cm virizion to check bulky waters (and hopefully catch some things off guard expecting a sd set) + sash zam for revenge killing (shoulda been twave on this tbh). The team played out pretty well for most of the game; probably should have won the match, but I missplayed quite a lot end game and christo managed to take advantage and grab the win.

Week 9 vs teal6: Wanted to use band crobat + sab as I figured it'd do a lot of work vs the typical kind of offense that teal used. After this I felt hazards could work quite well so I went with mega pert + forre. Week 7 vs Ice Tea: I had to face Ice Tea which was very unfortunate as he's probably the person I've had the most UU battles with. He knew my usual testing alts, most of my teams and just generally what mons I'm comfortable using. I decided to bring something more offensive and out of my comfort zone but that ended up backfiring. Ice Tea brought Mega Beedrill which is probably the worst possible matchup for this team. Despite that, it's still a pretty cool team, albeit it's not as nifty as some of the teams I would've liked to bring. It's centered around Toxicroak who's dangerous as all hell to most teams, especially to those balanced teams Ice Tea and Calloflochie like. Entei's the perfect partner as it very effectively weakens or takes advantage of many of Croak's counters, whereas Croak switches into Water attacks. Bronzong + Blastoise + Whimsicott form a pretty sturdy defensive core that doesn't give away momentum. Hydreigon is my go-to scarfer, mainly because U-Turn allows Entei to blow shit up very easily.[/hide]

Week 5 vs Bugzinator

For MY SPL debut I thought it would be a good idea to just play it safe with teambuilding. I looked through bugzinator's replays and did not see too many consistencies that I should take advantage of. I wanted to use the strongest team I currently built that was not really predictable. I knew I wanted a team that had a lot of ways to break through balance and bulky offense builds. I aimed towards creative ways to beat a lot of bugzinator's common defensive cores. Lum Knock Off Toxicroak was great for luring pokemon like Slowking, Gligar, Sableye, and Doublade. Since the team has no hazard removal I thought HP fire would be good on whims so Forry could not have free turns to spike vs my team. Other than that, I tried to just play it safe and use pokemon that I know work and am comfortable with.

Week 6 vs kokoloko

For this game, I unfortunately had no time to prepare because I was on vacation. The only team I was comfortable with that I thought would have decent matchup was a classic Christo-esk semi stall. kokoloko seemed to be using a lot of the typical blastoise + whims BO that usually gets shit on by bulkier builds. This team was made pre-gyara drop so I just added HP Elec on swampert to have something to check it just incase it was brought. Although, entei put too much pressure on Entei to the point i needed to rely on Wil-O Wisp hitting.

Week 7 vs hogg

It was really hard to know for sure what hogg would bring because I know he is comfortable with essentially any playstyle and he knows that I am too. I decided to try another stall to hopefully catch him off guard. I had a feeling hogg would either bring offense or stall of his own. My build in particular is really good at handling hard offense as well as vs other bulkier builds due to Sab + 2 CM users. When I saw the matchup, I thought I had a pretty good one. The only potential trouble was a Roar CM Cune with a lot of Speed investment. Unfortunately he was slightly faster than my own Roar Cune and could pretty much sweep my team. That was a shame because other than that Suicune, he had no way to break my team.

Week 9 vs Omfuga

No counter-styling preparation was made for this match really. Omfuga and I played immediately when the week was posted. I noticed that the semi-stall builds were not having good luck from my recent matches so I decided to use my most solid offense that I recently made. I had an Abomasnow + Milotic team made just incase I battled Hikari, but I did not want to use that vs Omfuga because I quickly looked at fuga's replays beforehand and did not like the matchup. I expected classic Fuga offense and thought Mega Absol could do a large portion of work. Nothing much else to say, the team is pretty solid in most cases. I guess I am not much of a Counter-teaming type of guy, I usually like building what is comfortable to me.

Importable of all of the teams:

Note that I'm not planning to reveal most of the speed creeping I did (Sableye mostly), but just so you know I even run speed on shit like Reuniclus. Most of my teams were made hours before my games, but that's because I have hundred of cores and "bases" to work with on the teambuilder, so i don't need to spend days coming up with team ideas

I was expecting SPL debut jitters from dodmen, so I decided to use a weird looking team to throw him off. Fully expected him to bring Krookodile, because it's one of his most used Pokemon and when you are playing your first game in SPL you use the things you are comfortable with, so I decided to use Tentacruel to bait him. Druddigon was there to confuse him and set up Rocks, but the main reason why I picked it was so he focused on the weird Druddigon and not on the possibility of offensive Tentacruel.

Surprise kills are way too important in a BO1 series and I wanted to take advatange of dod's lack of experience.

I was counting on him bringing his usual fat balance bullshit that gets wrecked by CB Heracross, which is extremely uncommon in the current meta, and I was semi right, except he brought balance with triple intimidate with two super threatening sweepers that could use Heracross as setup fodder if necessary. Infernape was for the surprise factor, but he decided to use Blastoise twice in a row and I wasn't counting on that, and his two main sweepers made it a liability unless I managed to keep it at 100% till late game. Double Synthesis was accidental. CB Snorlax pushed my shit in

Koko definitely got me in this match

Bugzinator uses tons of different shit, but he's consistently weak to Haxorus, so I brought a Haxorus with unorthodox Tailwind support. It's a fairly simple team idea that works against certain players. Zapdos (with Discharge and enough bulk to survive anything before getting taunted), Shaymin and Sableye were there to lure Hydreigon in and cripple / kill it, but two of them got haxed and the other one was ass because of Mega Beedrill, and I ended up losing to 1% Hydreigon late game which was quite unfortunate.

One of the many variations of my eternal stall team. Been using it since XY and it's definitely my most consistent team against top players in serious game (pretty sure I haven't lost a single game with it). I have many variations of the same team because stall is "predictable" and everyone smart enough to research my replays knows how much I like that playstyle, but they cannot possibly counterteam all versions of this team and I can gain the upper hand with some surprise stuff mid game.

I decided to use stall vs marth because he was consistently weak to that playstyle. tbh pretty much everyone was consistently weak to hard stall during this SPL

Flochie likes offense, so I brought fast offense. That's how I like dealing with offensive players. I ended up playing with Ice Tea, who is basically the same thing as Flochie. Mienshao is fucking impossible to counter with offense if you aren't running a ghost type, Alakazam and Aerodactyl dick 99% of the offensive Pokemon, and Heliolisk has Water absorb + outspeeds Cobalion, which is extremely important.

We agreed to play without Alakazam. I watched every replay of teal6 of the past 6 months or so, he only used Mega Absol once (so yeah I did my research here). Mega Absol was the only mega I wasn't expecting to see and Teal brought it anyway. I used some weird shit that should have given problems to some of the stuff he regularly uses, and the team was lowkey focused on setting up a Empokeon sweep (Weird SR Aero to lure him into thinking my setter was bulky Empoleon if necessary, Machamp to kill Florges, Azelf boomed on other special walls, Rotom-C tricked them).

Definitely tried to win this week and it wasn't enough, so props to teal6

Lots of respect for Hogg as a player, but this match was completely irrelevant for my team and I honestly didn't give a shit here. I used a slightly edited version of a 8~ months old POCL team, which was made for a completely different meta without Reuniclus or Sableye.

As I said before, both Flochie and Ice Tea always build the same kind of teams, and I know how to beat those teams. I ended up facing Zamrock somehow, but his team was pretty much the shit I was expecting. I conditioned my opponents to prepare for Aerodactyl, Florges and Sableye, so I knew I was safe to use Beedrill and that the chances of seeing dragons were slim (I could handle them if necessary, tho). I abstained from using Entei during the season and I knew this was the perfect chance to use it. Curse Snorlax is fucking amazing and they weren't going to use Doublade again. Milotic and Gligar cover 99% of the setup sweepers they like to use. Coba is Coba, amazing in some matchups but complete ass in others.

Chat shit, get banged.

I joined SPL in the hopes of playing UU since it's been my favorite tier ever since Ubers turned to shit. Due to circumstances I ended up only playing one game which went pretty horribly, but I guess I'll share the team anyway.

I had to face Ice Tea which was very unfortunate as he's probably the person I've had the most UU battles with. Hydreigon is my go-to scarfer, mainly because U-Turn allows Entei to blow shit up very easily.
