Hello everyone, back again to host this week! Thanks to everyone for voting and for your patience. Congratulations to this week's winners, which are:

Again, congratulations! Your sets will be added to the Hall of Fame shortly. For this week, we've got yet another new threat from DLC2. Fire/Dragon isn't a very common type combination, only being seen on 4 Pokemon throughout the game's lifespan and only having one legal type representative in OU. You know who I'm talking about: Entei's older brother himself, Gouging Fire!

:sv/gouging fire:
Gouging Fire @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake
- Morning Sun

DD Gouging Fire is a beast fitting of its design, with it being able to run away with games after a single Dragon Dance boost. Anything lucky enough to outrun it struggles to revenge kill it, with its very good bulk for a sweeper letting it take a hit from a Choice Scarf user and remove it cleanly with Morning Sun. Flare Blitz is an incredibly strong and consistent STAB option letting Gouging Fire blow away attempts to take on its attacks from opposing walls like defensive Great Tusk, while Morning Sun offsets its recoil. EQ pairs naturally well with Flare Blitz, hitting anything that can take on Flare Blitz for at least neutral damage. Morning Sun keeps Gouging Fire healthy and allows it to launch off even more powerful attacks. Tera Fairy lets it avoid revenge killing attempts from Dragon-types like Dragapult and Kyurem, while being a solid defensive type as a whole.

How will you deal with this monster?

Submissions are open until Tuesday, January 30th.
You may submit up to one check and one counter.

Since you aren't mentioning sun at all, I'm submitting assuming we're not facing this guy in the sun.

Dragonite @ Choice Band
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch

Thanks to Multi-scale, Dragonite is really good at getting in and taking out Gouging Fire in response to a team mate lost, or just bring it in on a Dragon Dance. If Tera isn't on the table for Gouging Fire you just clean OHKO with outrage, and their boosts don't matter, you always live Flare Blitz as a Dragon-type. If Tera is on the table they are likely going to use it, but it doesn't really matter anyway as you're going to just 2HKO them with Extreme Speed. Although, you will be taking a hit for it, and you only survive up to +3 before the odds aren't in your favor. You aren't letting Gouging Fire get 4 Dragon Dances, are you? This is of course, only a check because switching in on an attack can be risky business if they're boosted beyond +1 along with standard Tera shenanigans.

+6 252+ Atk Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Multiscale Dragonite: 204-241 (63.1 - 74.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+3 252+ Atk Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Multiscale Tera Normal Dragonite: 255-301 (78.9 - 93.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Dragonite Outrage vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Gouging Fire: 560-660 (159.5 - 188%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Normal Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Gouging Fire: 186-220 (52.9 - 62.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Stealth Rock
- Taunt

Oh oops, Gouging Fire has absolutely 0 ways to deal with this, short of hoping their team mate hits it beforehand to pop the balloon, but we're not talking about team mates here, are we? Heatran also has plenty of power and Taunt to stop Gouging Fire from getting any funny ideas and trying to stall Heatran out.

Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. Flash Fire Heatran: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever
Gouging Fire Earthquake vs. Air Balloon Heatran: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever

252 SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Gouging Fire: 210-248 (59.8 - 70.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Ability: Drizzle
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Surf
- U-turn
- Hurricane
- Chilling Water

As well as being the premier weather setter for rain this generation, Pelipper also brings to the table some unique defensive applications against certain pokemon, one of them being one of the tier's most prominent offensive sweepers, Gouging Fire. Pelipper can not only comfortably take flare blitz on the switch in, but it can also limit Gouging Fire's setup potential through the use of chilling water, and also limits its capability to recover said damage because the rain that it summons cripples the healing potential of morning sun. Because Pelipper hits for neutral anyways, tera does not matter in this matchup.

Defensive
252+ Atk Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Pelipper in Rain: 49-58 (15.1 - 17.9%) -- possible 6HKO

Offensive
252+ SpA Pelipper Surf vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Gouging Fire in Rain: 207-244 (58.9 - 69.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Pelipper Chilling Water vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Gouging Fire in Rain: 115-136 (32.7 - 38.7%) -- 99.5% chance to 3HKO

At +0, a Gouging Fire Earthquake fails to 2hko, while a Choice Band Azumarill can comfortably clap back with a Liquidation or Play Rough, even if they tera.

252+ Atk Gouging Fire Earthquake vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 132-156 (35.6 - 42.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe

Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Matcha Gotcha
- Shadow Ball
- Strength Sap

Okay hear me out. BH players will be well aware of how crazy strong Strength Sap is. In conjunction with Heatproof, this lets Sinistsheist hard switch in and beat Gouging Fire 1v1. At +0, Flare Blitz barely fails to 2hko, and a subsequent Strength Sap will drop Gouging's atk and fully heal Sinistcha. Flare Blitz recoil and Shadow Ball will comfortably chip it down, but if they get smart and start spamming Dragon Dances to stall out your Strength Saps, you always have tera water in your back pocket

252+ Atk Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Heatproof Sinistcha: 150-176 (43.3 - 50.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Ability: Guts
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Headlong Rush

Ursaluna switches in after a teammate got KO'ed, activating Guts so it's ready to revenge kill.

You can Protect right after to scout for Tera Fairy. And then you can use either Headlong Rush or Gunk Shot, depending if you baited it into using its Tera.
252+ Atk Guts Ursaluna Headlong Rush vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Gouging Fire: 576-680 (164.1 - 193.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Guts Ursaluna Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Fairy Gouging Fire: 384-454 (109.4 - 129.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Or you can use tera Normal facade ro guarantee a KO:
252+ Atk Guts Tera Normal Ursaluna Facade (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Fairy Gouging Fire: 450-530 (128.2 - 150.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Without Tera:
252+ Atk Guts Ursaluna Facade (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Fairy Gouging Fire: 337-397 (96 - 113.1%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

1 boosted Flare Blitz fails to KO:
+1 252+ Atk Tera Fairy Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Ursaluna: 283-334 (61.1 - 72.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after burn damage

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Recover
- Encore

It's quite simple. Quagsire switches in, uses Toxic, and pressures Gouging Fire into using all of its Morning Sun PP. If Gouging Fire decides to PP stall with DD, you can just Encore it and try to use Earthquake.
4 Atk Quagsire Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Fairy Gouging Fire: 81-96 (23 - 27.3%) -- 54.7% chance to 4HKO

Thanks to Unaware, Gouging Fire's stat changes are useless against Quagsire. Let's see how much EQ does...
252+ Atk Tera Fairy Gouging Fire Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 88-104 (22.3 - 26.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

This is another W for Quagsire.

As AvaluggVGC pointed out, this set is too similar to theirs for me to allow it, unfortunately. I am highly doubtful of no Roost on Avalugg's set, but this set is not distinct enough to be allowed, sadly.
