Hello friends! It is with great excitement that I welcome everyone back to SV RU's very own VICTIM OF THE WEEK!!! A lot has happened since the last time we were here. After not one, but TWO DLC apocalypses and all the fun tier shifts and suspect shenanigans that come with that, we are finally entering into a period of relative stability, aka shifts happening every three months instead of every one. With that being said, and with us not having to worry about our favorite mons being stolen by the higher tiers, (welcome back :barraskewda: we missed you, :tinkaton: and :donphan: we miss you too :(( come back home) now is the perfect time to get this project up and running again.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Victim of the Week format, here are some ground rules:
1. Every week a new Pokemon or "victim" will be posted
2. The community will have 5 days to post submissions for Checks/Counters to said Pokemon (Check out the linked article for more info about Checks/Counters)
3. The community will then have 2 days to vote for their favorite Check/Counter. There will be a winning Check AND a winning Counter
4. You cannot vote for your own submission
5. A Pokemon can be submitted multiple times as a Check/Counter as long as it uses a different Set/Spread, be able to argue for your set if needed
6. Reservations are allowed but are only valid for 24 hours

Submission Guidelines:
- Make sure that submissions are for Pokemon that are reasonably viable within the broader context of RU (you can check the very dope newly updated VR for reference)
- Discussion about Sets/Mons is encouraged but please be civil about it
- Calcs/Replays are nice but not required
- Provide an explanation for your Set, it doesn't need to be a 5 paragraph essay, but something with substance

Basculegion-F is one of the more threatening scarfers in the tier sporting powerful STABs, strong coverage in the form of Ice Beam, and access to Flip Turn allowing you to generate momentum. In addition to this, Basculegion-F’s natural Water/Ghost typing gives it the added utility of doubling as a water resist and a spinblocker. How will you answer one of RU’s premier water types?

offensive empo is a v neat tool for bulky offense teams needing the solid bulk & resists of empoleon's steel typing while also taking advantage of its excellent coverage & power. serving as a solid check to basc, empos natural bulk affords it the ability 2 tank adapt shadow balls w relatively little investment, allowin for plenty of room 4 offensive investment; plus, unlike specially defensive sets that can only rly pivot out or sit & wait 4 competitive boosts in order 2 muscle thru bascs natural beefiness, offensive empo can immediately threaten it with grass knot 4 big damage.
given spread is faster than max speed enam-t (and anyt below, mainly conk) and the bulk ensures u always avoid the 2hko from scarf sball after rocks.

Crawdaunt is a check to basculegion-f, as it can take any two hits from basc-f, even if it tera waters, and respond with a brutal knock off which ko's basc-f even if it terrastilises. The moveset is mostly standard crawdaunt stuff, though careful nature means it can always take those two hits as otherwise it can crumple to two tera water surfs. Switcheroo is mainly for funsies, as it can cripple basc-f's ability to outspeed things. Tera water is just so it can ko basc-f from 25% or lower. If basc hits it on the switch and then switches out though, crawdaunt can't really do much though.

Milotic is a counter to basculegion-f. It can tank any hit basc-f throws at it, even a shadow ball does 27.4% max. It can then either recover off the damage, use mirror coat to deal big damage to basc-f or get a scald off for some chip. The last move is mostly customisable. Draining kiss deals some good chip while keeping milotic healthy, light screen means basc-f deals negative damage, and dragon tail does some damage and forces basc-f out. Tera dark is incase shadow ball is looking a bit dangerous due to low health. Competitive was chosen in case shadow ball gets a special drop, which means milotic is now threatening good damage to basc-f.

SpDef Empo is an eternal check to Hersculegion, taking at maximum 33% from a Shadow Ball. This set focuses on punishing any pivoting that Herscu tries to attempt with RH, forcing 16% every time they try to make safer plays with Flip Turn. SR makes it even harder for Herscu to easily stay healthy throughout a match, as every switch in chips it for damage that it cannot heal, barring wish support. If they try to fish for SpDef drops thinking that you can’t punish them, you can hit them with a Knock and remove a very potent scarfed from the mix. This also helps with weakening other mons long term that Herscu might go to on Empo.

I've actually played like 2 games of RU in my life, but I really like these projects so here we are:
I looked at the VR thread and wanted to submit my least favourite legendary beast: Raikou. But this idiot can't even consistently OHKO Basculegion-F. This is probably why Raikou is at a staggering 1.544% usage here.(Even modest might not k.o and I didn't want to submit specs)

So I settled for an electric type that can actually OHKO a water type. AV Magnezone can take a few special hits and pivot in and out with Volt Switch. Flash Cannon is your Steel STAB and Mirror Coat can be useful. Tera Blast would also be an option for the 4th moveslot. Magnezone will take two hits and Thunderbolt is enough to defeat Bas-F.

It's your favorite colorful blob made out of mysterious substances (reuniclus fans dni). With the recent departure of 2 premier dark types, I think there is a strong case to be made here for Alolan Muk, with exceptional 105/100 special bulk, A-Muk serves as a lovely counter for Basculegion-F and other special psychic types that are running in the tier after the ban of the aforementioned dark types.

Its natural typing makes it resist Bascu's shadow ball, and the special bulk makes surf a 4HKO with leftovers!

Adding onto this DaRotomMachine , I'd say change the evs to 252 hp instead of 252 speed, change it to tera dark and then call it a check.

It has to get extremely lucky if you don't tera, and you have to tera in order to deal meaningful damage to it.
That allows the submission to stay active, while being a bit more correct. It isn't the best mon to check basc-f, so it is a bit iffy. Maybe assault vest volcanion would be better though.

People tend to forget Brute Bonnet is fat as hell, particularly with defensive investment. Bonnet can switch in, eat any move from Legion and OHKO it back with its move of choice with minimal attack EVs. Since Basc isn't likely to stay in with Bonnet on the field, you can at least make progress on switch-ins using Stun Spore and open up opportunities for other team members. Tera Water is insurance in case you're running low on HP and want to neuter Ice Beam while retaining your water resistance.

Although it's not for Legion, the speed EVs are so you can outspeed any paralyzed mon up to max speed Cyclizar.

You know her, you love her, and you may even start to hate her if she’s in on your cyclizar, it’s RU Queen Choice Scarf Gardevoir. This battle for RU’s next top models is HEAVILY in Gardevoir’s favor. She can’t switch in on Basculegion, but a great way to stop Basculegion from coming in and spamming stabs against your team is to make it scared shitless to come onto the field at all.

Any team with Basculegion NEEDS a sturdy Moonblast and Psychic switch in, because if they don’t, Gard will come in on your fish, trace ADAPTABILITY and start sinking Moonblasts from the 3 point line like prime Steph. God forbid it clicks Tera fairy, too.

Big Wo will always have a place in svru as a great mixed wall that forces progress with Knock Off and Leech seed, and it’s dual typing just happens to make it one of the sturdiest Basculegion checks in the meta game. Not only does it switch in on bascu’s stabs, but it also eats even a specs ice beam fairly well without hardly any investment

that avoids a 2HKO after protect and lefties, and a specs bascu locked into ice beam isn’t threatening many well built teams. It will get worn down by flip turn+u-turn from Bascu’s teammates, but it can even stay in on weaker uturns from cyclizar and leech protect health back. Scarf bascu ice beam is an absolute joke and is doing about 1/3rd for a coverage move bascu really doesn’t want to lock into most times.

The beast from the east, the Sumo King of the RU Ring, It's Hariyama!

:hariyama: is fat enough to eat a hit from Basculegion even under adaptability and threaten to remove it's choiced item with Knock Off. This essentially forces Basculegion out and allows a free hit off on any mon from your max atk Hariyama (Base 120 atk). Although :hariyama: cannot OHKO Bascu with any given move, it essentially shuts it down and removes it as a threat for the rest of your team if the opponent decides to stay in. Hariyama lives a hit after switch in against Tera Water (Several if you choose to tera grass) and can deal a massive chunk with CC.

Tera Grass allows :hariyama: to sit in against an opposing Basculegion longer term, with Thick Fat negating the weakness to ice. Scarf Basculegion is not a serious mon, and :hariyama: laughs in it's face with it's 7HKO.

Although :hariyama: has no recovery of it's own, it can be paired with wish-passers in order to enable it to stay in long term, constantly letting you set off nukes against opposing mons. Common PhysDef walls in RU such as Moltres and Forretress don't want switch in and risk losing an item or a big chunk of HP to a knock off/CC, and facade can also be used to counteract any possible twave/burn. Alternately, Ice Punch can be used to threaten Thunderus-T, another common mon paired with Basculegion. :hariyama: should not be used as a dedicated SpDef wall without support from teammates as attacks from flying types such as Noivern will destroy it if you predict incorrectly with a CC instead of ice-punch, however would work very well with a mon such as Jirachi as part of a larger core.

A bit different from the answers so far, eject button Amoonguss is a fun, low commitment option on offensive teams. This EV spread makes it take <50% from every move on scarf hersculegion, and then after you've scouted it out, you get a free switch into whatever you want while knowing what move it's locked into. And due to fun game mechanics, if they flip turn on your switch, then the eject button pops, they aren't switched out and they are still locked into a flaccid flip turn as you bring in banded gapdos or gardevoir. Amoonguss just also happens to be kind of decent on teams with breakers that like a free pivot, so you're not giving up nearly as much as running Wo-chien or Lapras.
