Volcanion @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Water Absorb
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Fire Blast
- Body Press
- Flame Charge
Volcanion serves as a powerful wallbreaker, capable of melting many defensive backbones in the tier! Very few Pokemon find themselves able to switch into Volcanion's powerful attacks, and those that survive often find themselves softened up for its teammates to punish. Volcanion also serves as an excellent answer to other Water-types like Suicune and Slowbro. Body Press is a rarely used coverage move that is used almost solely for Assault Vest Cyclizar, which is otherwise an excellent check to Volcanion and the most common Pokemon in the tier. Flame Charge can boost Volcanion's mediocre Speed, allowing it to threaten potential revenge killers and outspeed Cyclizar. Tera Ground turns Volcanion’s Electric and Rock weaknesses into resistances, with Water Absorb maintaining its good matchup against Water-types. VoltTurn support from allies such as Cyclizar and Galarian Zapdos is greatly appreciated due to Volcanion’s lack of recovery, but its unique typing and solid natural defenses allow it to switch into opposing Pokemon like Barraskewda or Moltres with ease.
The following replay is from Week 1 of RUPL and showcases what Volcanion is capable of!
