Draft Weezing

Status
Not open for further replies.
**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 5-6 Points

**Overview**: Weezing is a defensive Pokemon with many things going for it. Levitate combined with its Poison typing gives it just one weakness and numerous resistances combined with a powerful Ground immunity. It can also use its other amazing ability, Neutralizing Gas, to disrupt foes in specific matchups by cancelling out their abilities. In addition, it has high Defense and some great support moves to disrupt foes and support its team. These combined traits give it great matchups against high-tier picks such as Garchomp, Meowscarada, and Sneasler, giving Weezing a lot of value as a low-tier pick. On the flip side, its low special bulk and Speed make it vulnerable to most special attackers. Weezing also tends to be passive due to its poor offensive stats and thus can potentially be taken advantage of by fast Taunt and Encore users, as well as bulky foes that can take its rather weak attacks.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Defensive Wall**: Weezing makes for a great defensive wall, using its great bulk and typing to switch into an array of attacks aimed at its teammates. This set aims to stick around for as long as possible, making use of its limited healing options such as Black Sludge and Pain Split to amplify its longevity.

**Bulky Support**: This set aims to take advantage of Weezing's support movepool, sacrificing longevity to run more moves to support its team. For instance, Weezing can inflict status in the form of burn from Will-O-Wisp or poison from Toxic or Toxic Spikes. It can also deny opposing setup by using moves such as Haze, Clear Smog, and even Taunt. Weezing is quite flexible in the support it can offer, but its passivity can be taken advantage of, especially since it doesn't aim to stick around as long as possible.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Gunk Shot

**Setup Moves**: 404: Could not be found

**Utility Moves**: Acid Spray, Clear Smog, Destiny Bond, Haze, Memento, Pain Split, Protect, Taunt, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Will-O-Wisp

**Coverage**: Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt

Niche Moves
========
**Explosion**: Explosion is a powerful attack that not only has the potential to inflict huge damage but also allows Weezing to enable a teammate to safely hit the field afterwards. It works similarly to Memento in this regard, but since it is not a status move, it bypasses status move-blocking methods such as Taunt and does damage instead of lowering stats.

**Venoshock**: Weezing makes for a great Toxic Spikes setter. Once a foe is poisoned, Venoshock will double in power, allowing for a spammable STAB attack that's even stronger than Sludge Bomb.

**Endure**: Weezing makes for a great Custap Berry user, having many great moves to disrupt foes with. Endure ensures Weezing will survive any incoming attack and activate its Berry.

Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Finding itself often switching into physical attacks, most of which are contact moves, Weezing can punish foes with Rocky Helmet, forcing chip damage over the course of a game.

**Black Sludge**: Having very limited forms of recovery, Black Sludge is used to allow Weezing to stick around for longer. This can be combined with Protect to allow for even more turns of recovery.

**Sitrus Berry**: While Weezing has a good defensive profile, it is not invincible, and it can find itself struggling against high Base Power attacks and foes with massive attacking stats. Sitrus Berry works better than Black Sludge in these scenarios by providing Weezing a burst of recovery, potentially giving it an extra turn to survive and disrupt its foe.

Niche Items
========
**Custap Berry**: Boasting sacrificial moves such as Memento, Explosion, and Destiny Bond, Weezing can run a Custap Berry to successfully use these moves while bypassing its low Speed stat.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Weezing may find itself using Neutralizing Gas in some matchups, making it more vulnerable to entry hazards. As such, Heavy-Duty Boots can be used to remedy this issue, allowing Weezing to switch in and out of battle more safely.

**Payapa Berry**: As mentioned above, Weezing effectively only has one weakness in Psychic, limiting the coverage options foes have to break it. This makes Payapa Berry effective to let Weezing lure and either KO or status foes that fail to KO it with Psychic-type coverage, such as Iron Valiant.

Tera
========
Weezing generally doesn't need to be a Tera Captain. It does not have amazing offensive power on its own, and it already has a fantastic defensive typing. However, should Weezing be made a Tera Captain anyway, it can use its fantastic ability in Levitate to retain a Ground immunity when changing types. Tera types such as Tera Steel and Fire work very well in this regard, with a particular mention to Tera Electric giving it no weaknesses. However, it can also exploit a number of other great Tera types such as Tera Fairy and Water to wall more specific threats. Finally, Tera Dark can be used to make Weezing immune to its sole effective weakness, Psychic.

Draft Strategy
========
Weezing should be drafted on teams that appreciate its physical bulk, wide support movepool, and valuable resistances. Due to its passivity and vulnerability to special attackers, Weezing should not be used as as the centerpiece of a bulky core. Rather, it is used to patch up weaknesses and enable its team, with many different teammates appreciating the help it can provide.

**Special Walls**: As a physically bulky Pokemon, Weezing pairs well with specially bulky teammates, forming a potent defensive core. With effectively only one type weakness to compensate for, many Pokemon can form such a core with Weezing. Pokemon with high Special Defense such as Primarina, Corviknight, and Clefable can reliably tank special attacks aimed at Weezing, allowing it to survive for longer.

**Status-weak Pokemon**: Being a slow Poison-type that primarily uses special moves, Weezing usually ignores poison, paralysis, and burn. As such, it can find itself a great status absorber, taking status attacks for its teammates and ensuring they stay healthy throughout the match. Pokemon such as Palafin, Garchomp, and Iron Valiant detest all forms of status and can rely on Weezing to take these moves for them.

**Setup Sweepers**: Weezing has numerous ways it can enable setup sweepers, whether it be providing a switch opportunity with Memento or weakening a physical threat with a burn, providing safe entry for its teammates. Setup sweepers such as Dragonite, Volcarona, and Quaquaval can set up more safely and potentially end the game thanks to the support Weezing offers.

**Offensive Teammates**: Due to its low offensive stats, Weezing struggles to do much damage, even with its coverage moves. As such, Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon, to name a couple examples, often switch in freely against it. Offensive teammates that can take advantage of these types of Pokemon pair well with Weezing. Ground-types such as Great Tusk and Fire-types such as Cinderace are reliable Pokemon that can switch into and remove them.

**Entry Hazard Control**: Regardless of which ability Weezing runs, it appreciates teammates that can remove entry hazards. If it runs Levitate, it cannot absorb Toxic Spikes and thus cannot protect its team from being poisoned. On the other hand, Neutralizing Gas sets become vulnerable to Spikes, and Weezing prefers to run items other than Heavy-Duty Boots. Spinners such as Terapagos, Iron Treads, and Blastoise can reliably remove hazards and solidify Weezing's walling capabilities.

Checks and Counters
========
**Psychic-types**: Psychic is Weezing's sole weakness when using Levitate, and thus it finds itself frequently targeted by both Psychic-type coverage and powerful Psychic-type Pokemon. Pokemon such as Latias, Latios, and both Slowking formes have both the typing and the bulk to switch into Weezing directly and threaten it with super effective STAB attacks.

**Poison-types**: Weezing is helpless against most opposing Poison-type Pokemon. It lacks powerful moves to hit them, and they are immune to being poisoned. Weezing can still threaten them with Will-O-Wisp and its other support moves, but Pokemon that do not mind these tactics such as Iron Moth, Gengar, and Glimmora make for excellent switch-ins to Weezing, often completely blanking it.

**Special Attacks**: Even when investing in its Special Defense, Weezing is still threatened by powerful special attackers, which it cannot weaken in the same way it can weaken physical attackers with burn. Special attackers such as Kyurem, Greninja, and Darkrai can repeatedly fire off special STAB attacks, which Weezing struggles to handle.

**Status Blockers**: Since Weezing's damage output is low, it relies on status and status moves to threaten foes. As such, Pokemon that can ignore these moves give it a lot of trouble. Fast Taunt users like Tornadus-T and Darkrai can prevent Weezing from using status moves altogether. Substitute is a move learned by many Pokemon that can block most forms of status and allow them to take advantage of Weezing's low damage output, with some Pokemon like Garchomp also resisting Weezing's limited coverage. Finally, Lum Berry can be used by wallbreakers such as both Urshifu formes to prevent Weezing from immediately checking them and potentially use it to set up.

**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 5-6 Points

**Overview**: Weezing is a defensive Pokemon with many things going for it. Levitate combined with mono-Poison typing gives it just one weakness; however it can also use its other ability Neutralizing Gas to mess up opponents in specific matchups by cancelling out their abilities. In addition, it has a high defense stat with some great support moves to disrupt the opponent and support its team. On the flip side, it has low HP, Special Defense and Speed alongside average offensive stats, limiting the number of roles it can fulfill. Weezing also tends to be passive due to strictly being a wall, and thus can potentially be taken advantage of.
Either here or in roles/draft strategy I feel Weezing should be highlighted as a good pick because it has a very strong matchup against many of Draft's higher tiers and is able to check common r1/r2 Pokemon like Great Tusk, Garchomp, Meowscarada, Sneasler, etc.

Common Roles
========
**Defensive Wall**: Weezing makes for a great defensive wall, using it's great bulk and typing to switch into an array of attacks aimed at its teammates. This set aims to stick around for as long as possible, making use of its limited healing options such as Black Sludge and Pain Split to amplify its longevity. Weezing works best as a physical wall, but can also invest in Special Defense in specific matchups due to how high its Defense stat is even without investment. Weezing should also generally either run appropriate offensive coverage or status to prevent it from being too passive when entering the field.

**Bulky Support**: This set aims to take advantage of Weezing's support movepool, sacrificing longevity in order to run more moves to support its team. For instance, Weezing can inflict status in the form of burns from Will-O-Wisp or poison from Toxic or Toxic Spikes. It can also deny opposing setup by using moves such as Haze, Clear Smog or even Taunt. Weezing is quite flexible in the support it can offer, but its passivity can be taken advantage of, especially since it doesn't aim to stick around as long as possible.
I feel a better split is simply a 1. Levitate 2. Neutralizing Gas set - Weezing fills both roles of defensive wall and bulky support with its levitate set by having Sludge/Coverage/Painsplit/Status move in most matchups. Whereas, Neut gas needs to be more specifically creative in disrupting abilities like regenerator or statusing Gholdengo/Garganacl or grounding opposing Levitate users to take spikes/tspikes.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Gunk Shot

**Setup Moves**: 404: Could not be found

**Utility Moves**: Clear Smog, Destiny Bond, Haze, Memento, Pain Split, Protect, Taunt, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Will-O-Wisp

**Coverage**: Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt Maybe Psybeam to hit opposing Poison-types?

Niche Moves
========
**Explosion**: A powerful attack that not only has the potential to inflict huge damage, but will also allow Weezing to enable a teammate to safely hit the field afterwards.
You could combine this with Memento IMO

**Acid Spray**: A weak STAB attack that harshly lowers Special Defense, which can allow Weezing to eventually knock out the opponent through repeated uses or force a switch.

**Venoshock**: Weezing makes for a great Toxic Spikes setter. Once an opponent is poisoned, Venoshock will double in power, allowing for a spammable STAB attack that's even stronger than Sludge Bomb.

**Endure**: Weezing makes for a great Custap Berry user, having many great moves to disrupt the opponent with. Endure ensures Weezing will survive any incoming attack and activate its berry.

**Stockpile**: Strictly for use on defensive sets aiming to stall the opponent, Stockpile will raise Weezing's defensive stats by one stage, but can only be used up to three times. This increases Weezing's longevity even further and allows it to take even special attacks more reliably.

Common Items
========
**Black Sludge**: Having very limited forms of recovery, Black Sludge is used to allow Weezing to stick around for longer. This can be combined with Protect to allow for even more turns of recovery.

**Rocky Helmet**: Finding itself often switching into physical attacks, most of them being contact moves, Weezing can punish opponents with Rocky Helmet, forcing chip damage over the course of a game.
IMO helmet is its most common item, would move above sludge

**Sitrus Berry**: While Weezing has a good defensive profile, it is not world breaking, and it can find itself struggling against high base power attacks and opponents with massive attacking stats. A Sitrus Berry works better in these scenarios by providing Weezing a burst of recovery all at once, giving it potentially an extra turn to survive and mess with its opponent.
I would move this to niche and possibly add Payapa for its ability to lure and KO threats like Psychic Valiant

Niche Items
========
**Custap Berry**: Boasting sacrifical moves such as Memento, Explosion and Destiny Bond, Weezing can run a Custap Berry to successfully use these moves while bypassing its low speed stat.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Weezing may find itself using Neutralizing Gas in some matchups, making it more vulnerable to hazards. As such, Heavy-Duty Boots can be used to remedy this issue, allowing Weezing to switch in and out of battle more safely.

Tera
========
Weezing generally should not be used as a Tera Captain. It does not have amazing offensive power on its own and it already has a fantastic defensive typing. However, should Weezing be made a Tera Captain anyway, it can use its fantastic ability in Levitate to retain a Ground-type immunity when changing types. Tera types such as Steel- and Fire-type work very well in this regard, however it can also abuse a number of other great mono-types such as Fairy- and Water-type to wall more specific threats.
Electric deserves a mention IMO due to levitate, and Dark as an option to remove its psychic weakness

Draft Strategy
========
Weezing should be drafted for teams needing a reliable defensive wall, a plethora of support, as well as a grounded Poison-type, allowing it to absorb Toxic Spikes when not running Levitate. It's generally picked up late during the drafting process due to both its low point value and the strictness of the roles it provides, meaning it should not be considered a centerpiece of a team. Rather, it is used to patch up weaknesses and enable its team, with many different teammates appreciating the help it can provide.

**Physically frail teams**: Weezing's main trait is its high Defense stat, allowing it to switch into numerous physical attacks which would otherwise be aimed at its teammates. Thanks to only having one weakness, several resistances to types such as Fighting-, Poison- and Grass-type, and the ability Levitate, Weezing can hit the field easily and protect its team, potentially blanking opponents outright if they don't run appropriate coverage or status to bypass it.

**Poison beneficiaries**: Boasting numerous ways of spreading poison, Weezing appreicates teammates that can take advantage of opposing teams that have been inflicted with poison. These take the form of bulky Pokemon with reliable recovery, such as Alomomola, Gholdengo and Zapdos. They can keep themselves healthy whilst the opposing team succumbs to the effects of poison, allowing for easier KOs. This is not really an effective strategy in SV unless playing dedicated stall and Weezing is generally vastly inferior to many other choices for stall

**Status absorber**: Being a slow Poison-type that primarily uses special moves, Weezing does not usually care for the three main forms of status used in poison, paralysis and burn. As such, Weezing can find itself as a great status absorber, taking status attacks for its teammates, ensuring they stay healthy throughout the match. Pokemon such as Palafin, Garchomp and Iron Valiant detest all forms of status and can rely on Weezing to take these moves for them.

**Setup sweepers**: Weezing has numerous ways in which it can enable setup sweepers, whether it be providing a switch opportunity with Memento or weakening a physical threat with a burn, providing safe entry for its teammables. Setup sweepers such as Dragonite, Volcarona and Quaquaval can more safely setup and potentially end the game thanks to the support Weezing offers.

Would add hazard control partners - Weezing often needs levitate and is unable to absorb tspikes for its team in several matchups, and neut gas sets like having spikes gone too since it generally prefers helmet or sludge over boots

Checks and Counters
========
**Psychic-types**: Psychic is Weezing's sole weakness when using Levitate, and thus it finds itself frequently targeted by both Psychic-type coverage and powerful Psychic-type Pokemon. Pokemon such as Latias, Latios and both Slowking forms have both the typing and the bulk to switch into Weezing directly and threaten it with super effective STAB attacks.

**Poison-types**: Weezing is helpless against most opposing Poison-type Pokemon. It lacks powerful moves to hit them and are immune to the poison status. Weezing can still threaten them with burns and its other support moves, but Pokemon that do not mind these tactics such as Iron Moth, Gengar and Glimmora make for excellent switch ins to Weezing, often completely blanking it.

**Special Attacks**: Even when investing into its Special Defense stat, Weezing is still threatened by powerful special attacks which it cannot weaken in the same way it can threaten physical attackers with burns. Special attackers such as Kyurem, Greninja and Darkrai can repeatedly fire off special STAB attacks which Weezing will struggle to handle.

**Status blockers**: Since Weezing's offense output is low, it relies on status and status moves to threaten opponents. As such, Pokemon that can ignore these moves give Weezing a lot of trouble. Magic Guard Pokemon such as Reuniclus can make themselves immune to passive status such as poison. Magic Bounce Pokemon such as Espeon as well as fast Taunt users like Tornadus-Therian can prevent Weezing from using status moves altogether. Finally, Gholdengo is fully immune to any sort of status move Weezing attempts to use bar field moves such as Toxic Spikes and Haze.
I would change this to Substitutes - Weezing struggles to break substitutes of Pokemon it is meant to check such as chomp/lando/tusk. Gas sets can technically wisp Gholdengo too so this is also slightly misleading even if Ghold is still good into it regardless. Possibly add a Lum Berry section, since many SD users can muscle thru Weezing if it tries to check the threat by Will-O-Wisp.

Draft Strategy
========
make sure that for every point here, you are describing the role teammates provide to help out weezing, NOT the other way around
Weezing should be drafted for teams needing a that would appreciate reliable defensive wall its physical bulk, a plethora of its wide support movepool, as well as a grounded Poison-type, allowing it to absorb Toxic Spikes when not running Levitate and a Toxic Spikes absorber. It's generally picked up late during the drafting process due to both its low point value and the strictness of the roles it provides, meaning it should not be considered a centerpiece of a team. Due to its passivity and vulnerability to special attackers, Weezing should not be used as as the centerpiece of a bulky core. Rather, it is used to patch up weaknesses and enable its team, with many different teammates appreciating the help it can provide.

**Physically frail teams**: Weezing's main trait is its high Defense stat, allowing it to switch into numerous physical attacks which would otherwise be aimed at its teammates. Thanks to only having one weakness, several resistances to types such as Fighting-, Poison- and Grass-type, and the ability Levitate, Weezing can hit the field easily and protect its team, potentially blanking opponents outright if they don't run appropriate coverage or status to bypass it. you are describing what weezing does here. instead, write about how specially bulky pokemon can form an effective defensive core with it.

They can keep themselves healthy whilst the opposing team succumbs to the effects of poison, allowing for easier KOs. agreed with diviniya, this is not effective enough to warrant a mention

**Status absorber Pokemon vulnerable to status**: Being a slow Poison-type that primarily uses special moves, Weezing does not usually care for the three main forms of status used in poison, paralysis and burn. As such, Weezing can find itself as a great status absorber, taking status attacks for its teammates, ensuring they stay healthy throughout the match. **Setup sweepers**: Weezing has numerous ways in which it can enable setup sweepers, whether it be providing a switch opportunity with Memento or weakening a physical threat with a burn, providing safe entry for its teammables. Setup sweepers such as Dragonite, Volcarona and Quaquaval can more safely setup and potentially end the game thanks to the support Weezing offers.

don't know the best way to incorporate this but saying something to the effect of needing offensive teammates in general to actually win games is critical

Checks and Counters
========

Magic Guard Pokemon such as Reuniclus can make themselves immune to passive status such as poison. Magic Bounce Pokemon such as Espeon as well as think only taunt is relevant enough to mention, also mention substitute fast Taunt users like Tornadus-Therian can prevent Weezing from using status moves altogether. Finally, Gholdengo is fully immune to any sort of status move Weezing attempts to use bar field moves such as Toxic Spikes and Haze.

**Rocky Helmet**: Finding itself often switching into physical attacks, most of them being contact moves, Weezing can punish opponents with Rocky Helmet, forcing chip damage over the course of a game. agree this goes first

Niche Items
========

Tera
========

Draft Strategy
========
make sure that for every point here, you are describing the role teammates provide to help out weezing, NOT the other way around

They can keep themselves healthy whilst the opposing team succumbs to the effects of poison, allowing for easier KOs. agreed with diviniya, this is not effective enough to warrant a mention

Setup sweepers such as Dragonite, Volcarona and Quaquaval can more safely setup and potentially end the game thanks to the support Weezing offers.

don't know the best way to incorporate this but saying something to the effect of needing offensive teammates in general to actually win games is critical

Checks and Counters
========

**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 5-6 Points

**Overview**: Weezing is a defensive Pokemon with many things going for it. Levitate combined with its Poison typing give it just one weakness and numerous resistances combined with a powerful Ground-type immunity. It can also use its other amazing ability Neutralizing Gas to mess up opponents in specific matchups by cancelling out their abilities. In addition, it has a high defense stat with some great support moves to disrupt the opponent and support its team. These combined traits give it a great matchup against high tier picks such as Garchomp, Meowscarada and Sneasler, giving Weezing a lot of value as a low tier pick. On the flip side, its low special bulk and Speed makes it vulnerable to most special attackers. Weezing also tends to be passive due to its poor offensive stats, and thus can potentially be taken advantage of by fast Taunt and Encore users, as well as bulky opponents that can take its rather weak attacks.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Gunk Shot

**Setup Moves**: Curse Discussed with abriel + other QC team members and we agreed it isn't worth mentioning. What you had originally is fine

**Utility Moves**: Acid Spray, Clear Smog, Destiny Bond, Haze, Memento, Pain Split, Protect, Taunt, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Will-O-Wisp

**Coverage**: Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt

Niche Moves
========
**Explosion**: A powerful attack that not only has the potential to inflict huge damage, but will also allow Weezing to enable a teammate to safely hit the field afterwards. It works similarly to Memento in this regard, but since it is not a status move, it will bypass status blocking such as Taunt and do damage instead of lowering stats.

I can respect the vision but I've never seen this used before and feel like it's too niche

Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Finding itself often switching into physical attacks, most of them being contact moves, Weezing can punish opponents with Rocky Helmet, forcing chip damage over the course of a game.

**Black Sludge**: Having very limited forms of recovery, Black Sludge is used to allow Weezing to stick around for longer. This can be combined with Protect to allow for even more turns of recovery.

Niche Items
========
Move this to common

**Custap Berry**: Boasting sacrifical moves such as Memento, Explosion and Destiny Bond, Weezing can run a Custap Berry to successfully use these moves while bypassing its low speed stat.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Weezing may find itself using Neutralizing Gas in some matchups, making it more vulnerable to hazards. As such, Heavy-Duty Boots can be used to remedy this issue, allowing Weezing to switch in and out of battle more safely.

**Payapa Berry**: As mentioned above, Weezing only has one weakness in Psychic, limiting the coverage options opponents have to break it. This makes Payapa Berry effective in luring and either KOing or statusing opponents that fail to bypass it with Psychic-type coverage, such as Iron Valiant.

Tera
========
Weezing generally should not be used as doesn't need to be a Tera Captain. It does not have amazing offensive power on its own and it already has a fantastic defensive typing. However, should Weezing be made a Tera Captain anyway, it can use its fantastic ability in Levitate to retain a Ground-type immunity when changing types. Tera types such as Steel- and Fire-type work very well in this regard, with a particular mention to Electric-type giving it no weakness. However it can also abuse a number of other great mono-types such as Fairy- and Water-type to wall more specific threats. Finally, Dark-type can be used to make itself immune to its sole weakness.
Slight rephrasing since Weezing isn't terrible as a 2nd tera captain to pair with a high budget one. Doesn't need Tera ofc but it's alright

Draft Strategy
========
Weezing should be drafted for teams that would appreciate its physical bulk, its wide support movepool, and a Toxic Spikes absorber valuable resistances. Weezing is kind of a fake TSpikes absorber so I don't think it should be explicitly listed.

With only one type weakness to compensate for, many Pokemon can form such a core with Weezing. Pokemon with high Special Defense such as Primarina, Corviknight and Clefable can reliably tank special attacks aimed at Weezing, allowing it to survive for longer.

**Pokemon vulnerable to status**: Being a slow Poison-type that primarily uses special moves, Weezing does not usually care for the three main forms of status used in poison, paralysis and burn.

**Offensive Teammates**: Due to its low offensive stats, Weezing should not be relied upon to do massive damage to opposing teams. Rather, it requires offensive teammates benefitting from its support to force progress and do reliable damage throughout the game. These can range from wallbreakers such as Palafin to break bulky Pokemon Weezing cannot damage very well, to cleaners like Weavile that can reliably claim KOs against weakened opponents.
Change this section to focus on offensive mons that can take advantage of Steel/Poison types since Weezing invites those in

**Hazard Control**: Regardless of which ability Weezing runs, it appreciates teammates that can remove entry hazards. If it runs Levitate, it cannot absorb Toxic Spikes and thus cannot protect its team from being poisoned. On the other hand, Neutralizing Gas sets will become vulnerable to Spikes, and Weezing prefers to run items other than Heavy-Duty Boots. Rapid Spin users such as Terapagos, Iron Treads and Blastoise can reliably remove hazards and solidify Weezing's walling capabilities.

Checks and Counters
========

Fast Taunt users like Tornadus-Therian and Darkrai can prevent Weezing from using status moves altogether. Substitute is a move learned by many Pokemon that can block most forms of status and take advantage of Weezing's low damage output, with some Pokemon like Garchomp also resisting Weezing's limited coverage. Finally, Lum Berry can be used by breakers such as Urshifu to prevent Weezing from immediately checking it and potentially using it to setup.

**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 5-6 Points

**Overview**: Weezing is a defensive Pokemon with many things going for it. Levitate combined with its Poison typing give gives it just one weakness and numerous resistances combined with a powerful Ground-type immunity. It can also use its other amazing ability, (AC) Neutralizing Gas, (AC) to mess up opponents disrupt foes (opponent = opposing player, foe = opposing mon) in specific matchups by cancelling out their abilities. In addition, it has a high defense stat with Defense and some great support moves to disrupt the opponent foes and support its team. These combined traits give it a great matchup matchups against high-tier (AH) picks such as Garchomp, Meowscarada, (AC) and Sneasler, giving Weezing a lot of value as a low-tier (AH) pick. On the flip side, its low special bulk and Speed makes make it vulnerable to most special attackers. It can also deny opposing setup by using moves such as Haze, Clear Smog, (AC) and or even Taunt. Weezing is quite flexible in the support it can offer, but its passivity can be taken advantage of, especially since it doesn't aim to stick around as long as possible.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Gunk Shot

**Setup Moves**: 404: Could not be found

**Utility Moves**: Acid Spray, Clear Smog, Destiny Bond, Haze, Memento, Pain Split, Protect, Taunt, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Will-O-Wisp

**Coverage**: Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt

Niche Moves
========
**Explosion**: A Explosion is a powerful attack that not only has the potential to inflict huge damage (RC) but will also allow allows Weezing to enable a teammate to safely hit the field afterwards. It works similarly to Memento in this regard, but since it is not a status move, it will bypass bypasses status move-blocking methods such as Taunt and do does damage instead of lowering stats.

Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Finding itself often switching into physical attacks, most of them being which are contact moves, Weezing can punish opponents foes with Rocky Helmet, forcing chip damage over the course of a game.

**Black Sludge**: Having very limited forms of recovery, Black Sludge is used to allow Weezing to stick around for longer. This can be combined with Protect to allow for even more turns of recovery.

**Sitrus Berry**: While Weezing has a good defensive profile, it is not world breaking invincible (world-breaking is colorful but has the wrong connotations- more offensive), and it can find itself struggling against high base power Base Power attacks and opponents foes with massive attacking stats. A Sitrus Berry works better than Black Sludge in these scenarios by providing Weezing a burst of recovery all at once (redundant with burst), potentially giving it potentially an extra turn to survive and mess with disrupt its opponent foe.

Niche Items
========
**Custap Berry**: Boasting sacrifical sacrificial moves such as Memento, Explosion, (AC) and Destiny Bond, Weezing can run a Custap Berry to successfully use these moves while bypassing its low speed Speed stat.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Weezing may find itself using Neutralizing Gas in some matchups, making it more vulnerable to entry hazards. As such, Heavy-Duty Boots can be used to remedy this issue, allowing Weezing to switch in and out of battle more safely.

**Payapa Berry**: As mentioned above, Weezing effectively (not its actual only weakness) only has one weakness in Psychic, limiting the coverage options opponents foes have to break it. This makes Payapa Berry effective in luring to let Weezing lure and either KOing KO or statusing opponents status foes that fail to bypass KO it with Psychic-type coverage, such as Iron Valiant.

Tera
========
Weezing generally doesn't need to be a Tera Captain. It does not have amazing offensive power on its own, (AC) and it already has a fantastic defensive typing. However, should Weezing be made a Tera Captain anyway, it can use its fantastic ability in Levitate to retain a Ground-type immunity when changing types. Tera types such as Steel- and Fire-type Tera Steel and Fire work very well in this regard, with a particular mention to Electric-type Tera Electric giving it no weakness weaknesses. However, (AC) it can also abuse exploit (abuse is banned wording) a number of other great mono-types Tera types such as Fairy- and Water-type Tera Fairy and Water to wall more specific threats. Finally, Dark-type Tera Dark can be used to make itself Weezing immune to its sole effective weakness, Psychic.

Draft Strategy
========
Weezing should be drafted for on teams that would appreciate its physical bulk, its wide support movepool, and valuable resistances.

Pokemon with high Special Defense such as Primarina, Corviknight, (AC) and Clefable can reliably tank special attacks aimed at Weezing, allowing it to survive for longer.

**Status-weak Pokemon vulnerable to status**: Being a slow Poison-type that primarily uses special moves, Weezing does not usually care for the three main forms of status used in ignores ("doesn't care for" means the wrong thing here + sleep is also used so better not to categorize) poison, paralysis, (AC) and burn. As such, Weezing it can find itself as a great status absorber, taking status attacks for its teammates (RC) and ensuring they stay healthy throughout the match. Pokemon such as Palafin, Garchomp, (AC) and Iron Valiant detest all forms of status and can rely on Weezing to take these moves for them.

**Setup Sweepers**: Weezing has numerous ways in which it can enable setup sweepers, whether it be providing a switch opportunity with Memento or weakening a physical threat with a burn, providing safe entry for its teammables teammates. Setup sweepers such as Dragonite, Volcarona, (AC) and Quaquaval can more safely setup set up more safely and potentially end the game thanks to the support Weezing offers.

**Offensive Teammates**: Due to its low offensive stats, Weezing struggles to do much damage, even with its coverage moves. As such, Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon, to name a couple examples, often switch in freely against Weezing it. Offensive teammates that can take advantage of these types of Pokemon pair well with Weezing. Ground-types such as Greak Great Tusk and Fire-types such as Cinderace are reliable Pokemon that can switch into these types of Pokemon and remove them.

**Entry Hazard Control**: Regardless of which ability Weezing runs, it appreciates teammates that can remove entry hazards. If it runs Levitate, it cannot absorb Toxic Spikes and thus cannot protect its team from being poisoned. On the other hand, Neutralizing Gas sets will become vulnerable to Spikes, and Weezing prefers to run items other than Heavy-Duty Boots. Rapid Spin users Spinners such as Terapagos, Iron Treads, (AC) and Blastoise can reliably remove hazards and solidify Weezing's walling capabilities.

Checks and Counters
========
**Psychic-types**: Psychic is Weezing's sole weakness when using Levitate, and thus it finds itself frequently targeted by both Psychic-type coverage and powerful Psychic-type Pokemon. Pokemon such as Latias, Latios, (AC) and both Slowking forms formes have both the typing and the bulk to switch into Weezing directly and threaten it with super effective STAB attacks.

**Poison-types**: Weezing is helpless against most opposing Poison-type Pokemon. It lacks powerful moves to hit them, (AC) and they are immune to the poison status being poisoned. Weezing can still threaten them with burns Will-O-Wisp and its other support moves, but Pokemon that do not mind these tactics such as Iron Moth, Gengar, (AC) and Glimmora make for excellent switch-ins (AH) to Weezing, often completely blanking it.

**Special Attacks**: Even when investing into in its Special Defense stat, Weezing is still threatened by powerful special attacks attackers, (AC) (parallelism) which it cannot weaken in the same way it can threaten weaken physical attackers with burns burn. Special attackers such as Kyurem, Greninja, (AC) and Darkrai can repeatedly fire off special STAB attacks, (AC) which Weezing will struggle struggles to handle.

**Status blockers Blockers**: Since Weezing's offense damage output is low, it relies on status and status moves to threaten opponents foes. As such, Pokemon that can ignore these moves give Weezing it a lot of trouble. Fast Taunt users like Tornadus-Therian and Darkrai can prevent Weezing from using status moves altogether. Substitute is a move learned by many Pokemon that can block most forms of status and allow them to take advantage of Weezing's low damage output, with some Pokemon like Garchomp also resisting Weezing's limited coverage. Finally, Lum Berry can be used by wallbreakers such as Urshifu (Urshifu-R, Urshifu-S, or "both Urshifu formes") to prevent Weezing from immediately checking it them and potentially using use it to setup set up.
