* Amoonguss is the premier Spore user this generation, providing fantastic team support in stopping various Dynamax sweepers with Sleep status.
* Giga Drain helps keep Amoonguss healthy while doing reasonable damage to Pokemon that do not resist it.
* Spore is Amoonguss' main niche as the only competent user left in the metagame, and is particularly useful in stopping Dynamax sweepers that cannot OHKO it.
* Clear Smog helps prevent Amoonguss from being setup bait while doing great damage to Fairy-types like Lum Togekiss that otherwise might try to set up on Amoonguss.
* Foul Play can be used to punish physical set sweepers like Mimikyu.
* If opting against Foul Play, Sludge Bomb is a useful STAB with a good poison chance.
* Synthesis is useful against passive foes with less wallbreaking ability, allowing Amoonguss to maintain enough HP to beat its checks throughout the course of a game.
* Black Sludge is the primary item of choice, giving Amoonguss great passive recovery throughout a game.
