Proof of peak:
Introduction:
Hey, I welcome you to my first RMT in SM OU.This team is the final version of my Baton Pass team. It is extremly strong and easy to use. Skill is only needed, when you are facing some tough matchups. I will talk about those later. Lets hop right into the team!
Analysis:
Scolipede @ Leftovers
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Poison Jab
- Protect
- Substitute
- Baton Pass
We all know what this mon does. Gather as many boosts as you need and pass them to the appropriate mon. Not much has changed for this Set. Just be careful against powerful Z-Moves like Supersonic Skystrike or Continental Crush. It is incredibly important to not waste this mon because you protected on those moves. It still dies!
I was experimenting with a variant that outspeeds Scarf Tapu Lele at +1, kills it with Poison Jab and allows its Substitute to never be broken by Toxapex Scald. As I laddered I realized, it is best to go with max Speed, so that are you not forced to protect too often.
Excadrill @ Focus Sash
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Toxic
This set is incredibly good. It always does something and is never shut down. You can either break a threats Sash, set up Hazards or Toxic. Setting up Hazards is not always necesarry.
If you are facing a Mega Metagross, Mamoswine or Garchomp turn 1, it is important to Earthquake them to break the potential sash. You definitely do not want to set-up and realize it is Sash Chomp after you are ready to sweep!
As for Mega Metagross, this team can deal with it but most of the time it is better to just Earthquake it rather than getting up Stealth Rocks.
I usually lead with this or Scolipede, depending on how much I wanna Toxic stuff or get up Rocks.
Xurkitree @ Air Balloon
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Energy Ball
When you look at my team you will realize, that it lacks a ground resist/immunity. This is not a teambuilding mistake, but an intended design. This will give my opponent a false sense of security with spamming Earthquake. One of the easiest way to sweep is to gather Speedboosts as my opponent is forced to Earthquake. Especially if you look at my team, the temptation is huge, right? Be careful against Zygarde though. Its Thousand Arrows does ignore Air Baloon!
Always consider potential priority revengekillers as well as your current health and speed when you decide to click Tail Glow. At +3, not much can stop this monster from going havoc.
I decided to go with max Speed and max Special attack. It is not worth investing in bulk because sometimes, you can only get one speedboost. You must be able to sweep as much as possible even with limited speedboosts. Sadly, even at +1 you cannot outspeed Ash-Greninja with this set. Just acknowledge the fact and act accordinly ;)
Maximum special attack is necesarry to blow through Spdef Amoonguss and hit mons who resist Thunderbolt incredibly hard.
Manaphy @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 132 HP / 252 SpA / 124 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Energy Ball
Manaphy became a staple on good Baton Pass teams. Its natural bulk and pure Water typing allows it to sweep teams very easily after one Tail Glow boost. Sitrus Berry is used over Leftovers for the immediate recovery. This is important because you do not want Manaphy to be revengekilled easily.
Surf and a Modest nature ensures the OHKO on common threats like Mega Metagross and Tapu Lele at +3.
124 Speed allows Manaphy to outspeed Ash-Greninja at +1 and Scarf Latios at +2. The rest was put into HP.
Magearna @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
This mon right here is very bulky even without any investments. Sadly, its natural speed is very low, forcing me to invest into it. Shuca Berry allows me to set up at least one Calm Mind against Ground-Types if necesarry.
The combination of Calm Mind and Thunderbolt allows me to heavily weaken Toxapex, a common mon used to hard counter Magearna. Magearnas natural bulk and typing makes it very easy to setup and boost as it kills. Very simply, yet deadly.
Ice Beam is important to OHKO common mons like Zygarde, Lando-T and Garchomp without using Fleur Cannon. It never misses and has great natural coverage alongside Thunderbolt.
Flash Cannon is my stab of choice. It is very strong, especially after a boost.
Thanks to Calm Mind, I can also comfortably set up on opposing Magearna.
No matter what kind of Magearna-Set you use, a specific group of mons will wall you. I believe, that this set has the best potential to sweep. I would love to use a Z-Move, but Shuca Berry is just too good to not use on this mon imo.
Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Thunder Punch
- Ice Punch
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
I am a fan of accurate moves. Looking at my team, the only innacurate moves are Toxic and Meteor Mash ;)
That aside, there is literally no reason to not use this mon right now. It has great resistances and with the Mega Buff, it is a threat the turn it is on the field. The moves and EVs should be self-explanatory.
Mega Metagross does its job even without speedboosts very well. But passing speedboosts to this monster is very good as well. There are many matches where Metagross just has to click its appropriate coverage. The problem are revengekillers like Sand Rush Exca, Scarf Magnezone, Pheromosa etc..
With the speedboost, those are no longer a problem.
Also with the speedboost, you do not have to Mega Evolve immediatly. This can be helpful, if the opponent tries to pivot with Lando-T and an Ice/Steel resists like Heatran. That way, Intimidate will no longer lower your attack every time.
Without the speedboosts, you are forced to Mega-Evolve, because Heatran and Lando-T might be able to outspeed you premega which you should not risk.

Synergy:
1)
+
Setting up Stealth Rocks can give Scolipede a free Substitute. Toxicing mons like Landorus-T can also give Scolipede a free substitute, should the opponent decide to save it for Rocky Helmet Chip damage.
A free Substitute means a free setup and maybe a free win ;)
2)
No Groundresist+
As already explained in the Xurkitreepart, having no Groundresist and Air Baloon Xurkitree works wonders. You can watch it yourself in the replaysection later. Most of the sweeps are from Xurkitree, just because of this teams design.
3)
+
Having the exact same coverage allows me to break through stuff with one of the mons and clean up with the second. E.g. Xurkitree can force in Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur. A +3 Thunderbolt will heavily weaken those mons in exchange for Xurkitree.
This can allow Manaphy to clean up lategame without any problems.
4)
+
I already mentioned that Magearna will always be walled depending on the moves it uses. One of the common hardwalls of Boltbeam+Flash Cannon is Alolan-Marowak. Xurkitree naturally attracts Alolan-Marowak and weakens it heavily with +3 Energyball. After that, Magearna can easily sweep the opposing team.

Tough Matchups:
There are several mons, moves and specific teams, that give this team trouble.
1) One of the most obvious annoying moves in theory: Whirlwind. Whirlwind on Skarmory and Hippo discourages me from passing Speed, since I lack Espeon which is a staple on the popular Oras Baton Pass team. Luckily, teams who utilize those moves tend to have a slow team anyway, allowing me to sweep without speedboosts
2) Ferrothorn, Mega Venusaur, Alolan-Marowak:
By deisgn, this team is able to weaken a defensive threat heavily. That way, another mon can sweep. For more information about this, read the synergypart. But what if my opponent has at least two of them? You have to play like Jesus to overcome that tough Matchup, srs.
3) Shedinja Stall.
You might have realized, that my team does not have a single move to hit Shedinja with, if my Excadrill is dead and I do not have Stealth Rocks up. Against Shedinjastall, you should lead with Scolipede and Baton Pass to Excadril, to get the speedboost because you do not want to be trapped by Duggi without breaking its sash. Thanks to Moldbreaker, you can setup Rocks even against Mega Sableye. If the opponent decides to trap my Excadrill, make sure you will constantly pressure the defogger! This can be a problem, if the defogger is Togekiss, because it could be scarfed.
a) If it is scarfed, the best way is to go to Scolipede because Poison Jab kills Togekiss.
b) If it is the bulky variant, try to make a smart double. Make the stalluser believe, that going into Togekiss is safe now. Make a double there into something that threatens to OHKO Togekiss (e.g. Xurkitree). If the double does not work, do not forfeit.
The problem is you do not know if the Togekiss is Scarf or not. Get some friends who will ghost for you :D
