Buzzwole Discussion

I could see an assault vest set being popular, so something like this:

Buzzwole @ Assault Vest
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Leech Life
- Ice Punch
- Superpower
- Poison Jab

EVs allow it to live max special attack Mega Diancie's moonblast 100% of the time.

Alternatively, Choice Scarf and Choice Band seem like good options as well.

Statwise, it's really reminiscent of Rhyperior: Good HP, Beefy Physical, and atrocious special. Except that Buzzwole has a low but, usable 79 speed compared to useless base 40 and better defensive typing than Rhyperior. Also, unlike Rhyperior it has access to decent recovery in Leech Life. Probably OU/BL.

Buzzwole @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
Evs:252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Def

Easily revenge killable if someone carries any remotely competent Scarf user on them, largely unreliable because of said vulnerability to revenge killing and no consistent attack sans your Bug move, and somewhat counterproductive because Leech Life + Reversal and that + coverage move is just plain awful without an Attack boost. I mean you could try with Beast Boost but that depends on how competent the opposing team is.

You're plain just better off using a something with higher and more reliable BP STAB attacks like Terrakion or Keldeo. Unlike Buzzwole, most of them don't compromise their offensive stat with their own main attack and have simply better speed or coverage.

This is literally Conkeldurr with an added Bug typing. Good physical bulk (though Conkeldurr not as much) and a very good Attack stat combined with good coverage, but the Sp. Defense and Speed is just too much. As such, I see it getting tiered similarly to Conkeldurr, people will overhype it at first then it'll drop to being a niche Pokemon then become a semi top tier threat in UU in months to come.

I ran some calculations and...well...
0- SpA Wingull Gust vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Buzzwole: 160-192 (44.9 - 53.9%)
Yeah, it's not surviving any Air Slashes any time soon.
it lives bulky sigilyph's air slash:

4 SpA Sigilyph Air Slash vs. 112 HP / 144 SpD Assault Vest Buzzwole: 300-352 (78.3 - 91.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

actually, av's pretty bulky

other things that run air slash:

252 SpA Choice Specs Shaymin Air Slash vs. 112 HP / 144 SpD Assault Vest Heracross: 360-428 (93.9 - 111.7%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

0 SpA Togekiss Air Slash vs. 112 HP / 144 SpD Assault Vest Heracross: 336-400 (87.7 - 104.4%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Rotom-S Air Slash vs. 112 HP / 144 SpD Assault Vest Heracross: 372-444 (97.1 - 115.9%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

8 SpA Rotom-S Air Slash vs. 112 HP / 144 SpD Assault Vest Heracross: 304-360 (79.3 - 93.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 SpA Mantine Air Slash vs. 112 HP / 144 SpD Assault Vest Heracross: 240-288 (62.6 - 75.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

ofc u can get flinched, but the point is it's not glass. it's more like reinforced cardboard

Star Platinum Buzzwole (Best Name, hands down) does not get Close Combat. No Ora Ora Ora for me...

It doesn't have Megahorn either.

Glad they're trying to set it apart from Heracross, but still...

With how much GF wanted to stop power creep, it doesn't surprise me they didn't give this guy those moves. Still, a buffed Leech Life and Superpower are better than nothing, and I imagine the stat drops wouldn't affect it too much since it already has good physical bulk.

I'd probably use Hammer Arm, since he's barely using his Speed anyway.

Leech Life, Hammer Arm, Roost (is it really necessary with Leech Life?,) Bulk Up / Ice Punch / Poison Jab

I wasn't sold on this guy until I saw that idle animation in Amie.. Those flexes! (Way more animated than Beauty who's basically a dead fish.) We Sun players gotta take what we get.. At least he won't be banned to Ubers like Beauty. xD

I find this thing viable with a Choice Scarf, reaching a good enough 385 speed with an Adamant nature, and let's not forget this thing pretty much gets Moxie. It gets walled by Clef tho. This thing would've LOVED Poison Jab.

Some calcs (not to test its viability, just to show some things Buzzwole could do):

252+ Atk Buzzwole Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Diancie: 210-247 (87.1 - 102.4%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Buzzwole Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Diancie: 232-274 (96.2 - 113.6%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Buzzwole Superpower vs. 252 HP / 88+ Def Ferrothorn: 306-360 (86.9 - 102.2%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Buzzwole Superpower vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 600-708 (93.4 - 110.2%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Buzzwole Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 176+ Def Zapdos: 216-256 (56.3 - 66.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

-1 252+ Atk Buzzwole Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Landorus-T: 200-236 (52.3 - 61.7%) -- 95.3% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Buzzwole Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Metagross: 178-210 (59.1 - 69.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Buzzwole Leech Life vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mew: 302-356 (74.7 - 88.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Buzzwole Stone Edge vs. 96 HP / 0- Def Tornadus-T: 338-398 (104.6 - 123.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

We can see how this thing misses Megahorn to OHKO Mew and other stuff. But I can see it still get some usage in OU. My guess is that it'll probs be BL.

If Buzzwole was a lot slower, then I'd agree that it should use Hammer Arm.

It isn't though. 79 isn't much, but that's still pretty fast for a bulky attacker. Having that speed alongside Roost/Leech Life for recovery allows Buzzwole to set up on defensive mons and physical based mons that aren't capable of knocking it out.

I've heard they're short of room in hell
Buzzwole is faster and physically bulkier than Conk on top of having access to Roost(!), secondary STAB, and a Ground resist.
Buzzwole also lacks mach punch, and knock off. Plus, Conkeldurrs abilities are stellar compared to buzzwole, especially guts now that burn does such little damage. I think buzz is better overall but conk still has a trick or two.

This is a trick room variant hence Hammer Arm is a pseudo speed boost

I was really liking the Scarf set too. Depending on whether or not Beast Boost also counts Scarf as part of making it the highest stat, it can either get a speed boost every kill with a Jolly set, or an attack boost with an Adamant set. If you choose the Jolly nature on the scarf (again presuming beast boost counts the scarf), you essentially don't get a speed drop on KOs with Hammer Arm. And it does get Poison Jab thankfully.

I'm a little disappointed of Buzzwole.
It has a good physical bulk but low SpD, but Assault Vest can easily fix this problem in order to shield this Ultra Creature from its weakness, which are mainly special bar Flying.
Bulky Fairy types easily checks it, but Fairies have low physical bulk, so they lose a huge chunck of HP anyway.
79 Speed is lower than magical base 80 to hold a Choice Scarf, but I have to say that Scarf + Beast Boost is similar to Moxie, due to the fact that Buzzwole's Atk is higher than everything else.
Low Sweep seems mandatory to me to catch off guard faster opponents.

Nah, Beast Boost raises the higher stat on your stat screen, without any item or stats boosts, so if I have an Adamant 252+ in attack Captain Zika Buzzwole, Beast Boost will raise Attack. If I had an Impish 252+ in defense Bzzwole, Beat Boost would raise defense.

Thanks for clarification. I don't know why, but I don't have a good feeling about this Pokemon being very good, in OU at least. Maybe an Assault Vest set as nameless90 suggested may work alright as it can semi recover with Leech Life. Leech Life and Drain Punch would be awesome! But alas, we may have to wait for move tutors for that. I like the design of this Pokemon though, especially its shiny.
