The replay to 1500
I think I had an aneurysm missing all those hydros.
unfortunately no interesting replays as I mostly made the journey w/ rain
I was using monosteel until I was tired of low ladder being filled with infernapes which is almost an auto-loss for me if the opponent knows to preserve it, it was probably not a very good team anyways because half the time the matchup was pretty unplayable
So I was thinking, what other monotypes would be good? I was thinking of fighting and psychic, but finally decided to go rain with monowater. Funnily enough, I did not use gyarados or suicune which are thought to be staples of monowater.
IB meta for rotom and HP Elec tran for gyara
The most interesting part was not the gameplay (which is kinda depressing if you think about it LOL) but instead the building part and looking at how it actually played out in the games. Aside from the typical 3 rain abusers with LO (I dislike specs kingdra because it wastes turns), I also had omastar with a damp rock as a lead, which was actually pretty interesting.
I wanted a rocker that can also set up rain and is a water type, so I was thinking pert at first, but I don't want to be leading pert because I don't want opposing rotoms to be able to catch my pert switch. I originally had modest omastar with near max HP and speed but I kept seeing machamp leads for some reason and kept losing out on speedties (oma can actually take a dynamic punch and live the ensuing bullet punch) so I just had enough and made it +speed instead. Oma actually turned out to be a pretty solid rain lead, as you can go with rain t1 on stuff that can outspeed and 2hko it (which are rare) and then click rocks on t2, or go with rocks -> rain -> spikes or hydro on 3hkos which are most leads including non-bp meta. Taunt leads are problematic, but almost all of them does nothing back to oma and oma can hit them hard in return and come back in later potentially, especially on tar. Sandstorm buffing its spdef helps in tanking special hits too and setting up rain again, completely reversing the tempo. Breloom leads however, are disastrous, especially sash. I ran into a scarf once and was able to sac oma to sleep so it turned out fine but I just knew sash leads would be auto-loss if I did run into one.
Previous experience with a janky TR rain octillery team suggests that Empoleon provides amazing defensive utility, it can bait a tbolt from rotom at full and destroy it, and more importantly blocks latias / opposing kingdra and promptly net a ko in return with a nuclear specs hydro in rain. And that conclusion turned out to be true.
Finally I had a damp rock pert which I would never imagine myself running at all, but I wanted a second dr user and I had decided to include pert previously for rotom. Lefties was enticing, but imo damp rock was the way to go. Pert is that mon who can live a big hit like luc cc and setup long rain in return which pretty much just wins the game, and also help checks late game sweepers like nape luc and nite. It most importantly turns rotom rks (especially on empoleon) into my own tempo, if for whatever reason rain wasn't up (I got taunted / oma got ohkod by smth like hpgrass tran or got scared out).
Sorry for the essay, but yeah.
