Choice Band Golurk is among the strongest wallbreakers in NU, able to OHKO Cofagrigus and 2HKO Weezing. Heat Crash is primarily for bulky Grass-types, being able to OHKO Eldegoss and Ferroseed as well as 2HKO Tangela, while Golurk's impressive weight allows it to retain 120 Base Power against most Pokemon in the tier. Trick allows Golurk to free itself of its Choice item constraint to better access its coverage while also making itemless targets, namely Cofagrigus, vulnerable to Poltergeist. Close Combat can be used to maximize Golurk's holepunching capabilities, as it can OHKO Alolan Persian after Stealth Rock damage, OHKO Miltank, and nearly guarantee a 2HKO against even physically defensive Avalugg. Golurk prefers maximum Speed investment to ensure that faster bulky Pokemon such as Garbodor, Lanturn, and Sandaconda cannot outrun Golurk without hefty Speed investment of their own, as well as to allow it to Speed tie with Bouffalant and opposing Golurk. No Guard is the most useful of Golurk's abilities, if only because it allows Golurk to always land its Poltergeists.

Golurk's low Speed and weaknesses mean it can falter very hard against faster offensive teams, so partners are required to deal with this issue. Fast Dark-types such as Alolan Persian, Liepard, and Silvally-Dark are especially exceptional in this regard, as they can outrun most offensive Pokemon, mitigate Golurk's Ghost- and Dark-type weaknesses, and use pivoting moves to allow Golurk easier entry into battle. Speaking of pivoting, VoltTurn users are also great for giving Golurk optimal attacking opportunities, with slower users such as Lanturn and Wishiwashi using their bulk to soak a hit for Golurk before switching, while faster users such as Rotom-S, Ninjask, Basculin, and Accelgor can bait in defensive responses on the switch for Golurk to break. Most of them can even help cover for Golurk's weaknesses to Water and Grass. Kangaskhan, Ninjask, and Accelgor are other great ways to keep faster teams under control, while Choice Scarf users such as Basculin, Gourgeist-S, Togedemaru, and Toxicroak can revenge kill fast threats while also threatening to clean up teams weakened by Golurk's hole-punching.

Golurk is an offensive Stealth Rock user that can also spinblock for its own Stealth Rock by virtue of being a Ghost-type. Alternatively, Golurk can run Rock Polish role, leveraging its powerful coverage against faster teams and aim to clean games after their Choice Scarf user is gone. Spell Tag boosts the power of its Poltergeist while potentially bluffing a Choice item, with the power boost giving Golurk a decent chance to OHKO Cofagrigus after Stealth Rock damage as well as 2HKO Eldegoss, Ferroseed, and Clefairy. Close Combat rounds off the set, pulverizing Silvally-Dark, Kangaskhan, and Bouffalant after Stealth Rock damage and deterring the likes of Alolan Persian and Miltank with the threat of a 2HKO. A Jolly nature can be used to allow Rock Polish Golurk to outrun Choice Scarf Toxicroak after a boost if that is so desired, though the loss in power is notable. Colbur Berry can help weaken Knock Offs in general, but it is also nice for the Rock Polish set to allow it to tank a Sucker Punch. No Guard is the only remotely worthwhile ability Golurk could use, but it's still useful, as it ensures an accurate Poltergeist. An alternative variant of this Golurk would be Trick + Sticky Barb, which can mess with defensive cores that could pivot around Golurk's attacks, notably Weezing and Miltank cores, while being able to keep its item a surprise thanks to Klutz.

Golurk can't use Stealth Rock or Rock Polish in the face of faster offensive pressure, so teammates are needed to prepare ideal conditions for it. Fast pivots such as Ninjask, Basculin, Rotom, and Silvally can force in the opponent's more defensive Pokemon and then pivot into Golurk, with Parting Shot support being especially appreciated to soften blows for Golurk as it sets up Stealth Rock or Rock Polish; Dark-type pivots such as Silvally-Dark, Alolan Persian, and Liepard are notable for helping to cover for Golurk's weakness to Dark- and Ghost-type attacks. Because Stealth Rock Golurk can't function as a defensive backbone like other Stealth Rock Ground-types such as Sandaconda and Piloswine can, bulkier teammates such as Wishiwashi and Weezing are recommended to take the brunt of attacks. Offensive Pokemon are good partners for Golurk in general, as they either capitalize on Golurk's Stealth Rock support and strong offensive presence or soften up the opposing team enough for Rock Polish Golurk to potentially sweep. Specially offensive wallbreakers, such as Abomasnow, Magneton, Basculin, and Nasty Plot Toxicroak, can apply heavy offensive pressure by targeting physically defensive Pokemon for Golurk, while other powerful attackers, such as Rapidash, Sawk, Rotom, and Flapple, can still do a good job at weakening walls such as Tangela, Sandaconda, and itemless Cofagrigus.

Choice Band Golurk is power incarnate and nearly unwallable, possessing devastatingly powerful STABs attacks with excellent complementary coverage that are strong in their own right; to put it into perspective, the sheer strength of its Choice Band Poltergeist is enough to OHKO Cofagrigus and 2HKO Weezing. Heat Crash is primarily for bulky Grass-types, being able to 2HKO Tangela as well as OHKO Eldegoss and Ferroseed, while Golurk's impressive weight allows it to retain 120 BP against most Pokemon in the tier. Trick allows Golurk to free itself of its Choice item constraint to better access its coverage while also being able to cripple its defensive switch-ins making itemless targets vulnerable to Poltergeist (while crippling switchins is a safe play, golurk already destroys most targets with its CB intact, and the itemless walls are more of a concern than anything. I took out the following sentence as this condenses the point). Trick can even be used in a cheeky way to bestow an item to a target that would otherwise be unaffected by Poltergeist, which can slightly lessen the clash with teammates that have Knock Off. Close Combat can be used to maximize Golurk's holepunching capabilities, as it can OHKO Alolan Persian after Stealth Rock damage while having a nearly guaranteed chance to 2HKO even physically defensive Avalugg outright. Golurk prefers maximum Speed investment to ensure that faster bulky Pokemon such as Garbodor, Lanturn, and Sandaconda cannot outrun Golurk without hefty Speed investment of their own, as well as being able to speed Speed tie Arctovish and opposing Golurk (arcto is UR at the moment and shouldn't be mentioned). No Guard is relatively the most useful of Golurk's abilities, if only because it allows Golurk to always land its Poltergeists.

For the raw might that Golurk brings, it can falter very hard against faster offensive teams due to its low Speed and common weaknesses, so partners are required to respond to said offensive teams. Fast Dark-types such as Alolan Persian, Liepard, and Silvally-Dark are especially exceptional in this regard, as their Speed allows them to pressure offensive teams, they can mitigate Golurk's Ghost- and Dark-type weaknesses, and they all have pivoting moves to allow Golurk easier entry into battle. Speaking of pivoting, VoltTurn users are a generally great way to give Golurk optimal attacking opportunities. Slower users such as Lanturn and Wishiwashi can use their bulk to soak a hit before granting Golurk safe entry, while faster users such as Rotom-S, Ninjask, Basculin, and Silvally-Steel can bait in defensive responses on the switch for Golurk to start smashing; most of them can even help cover for some of Golurk's weaknesses (this last point is a little vague, I'd rather you mention specifically the Water- and Grass-type resistances these pivots have in comparison to how the Dark-types covered its other weaknesses). Kangaskhan and Ninjask are great ways to keep faster teams under control, while Choice Scarf users such as Basculin, Gourgeist-S, Togedemaru, and Toxicroak can revenge kill fast threats while also threatening to clean up teams weakened by Golurk's holepunching.

Golurk is one of the few an offensive Stealth Rock users in the tier, and being a Ghost-type means it can spinblock for its own Stealth Rock (I wouldn't say few when it competes with Cursola, Drednaw, and even Sanda and Pilo to an extent for offensive SR use). (Move the RP point here) That said, it would be more accurate to say that Golurk is still functionally a holepuncher with the option to set up Stealth Rock, rather than being a dedicated setter like fellow Ghost-type Stealth Rock user Cursola (The second sentence contradicts the first by declaring a more accurate role for Golurk to be called then the one you previously called it, and isn't too relevant in the first place when this set is two different roles as is). Close Combat rounds off the set, pulverizing Silvally-Dark and Kangaskhan after Stealth Rock damage and deterring the likes of Alolan Persian and Miltank with the threat of a 2HKO. Alternatively, Golurk can adopt a Rock Polish role instead, leveraging its powerful coverage against faster teams and aim to clean games after their Choice Scarf Pokemon is gone (see above). A Jolly nature can be used to allow +2 Golurk to outrun Choice Scarf Toxicroak if that is so desired, though the loss in power is notable. Colbur Berry can help weaken Knock Offs in general, but is also nice for the Rock Polish set to allow it to tank a Sucker Punch. No Guard is the only remotely worthwhile ability Golurk has, but it's still useful as it ensures an accurate Poltergeist.

Both variants of Golurk can't set up in the face of faster offensive pressure, so teammates are needed to prepare ideal conditions for Golurk. Fast Dark-types such as Silvally-Dark, Alolan Persian, and Liepard can force in the opponent's more defensive Pokemon and pivot out into Golurk to let it enter battle easier, with Parting Shot support being especially appreciated to soften blows for Golurk as it sets up (this is just the same points and examples as last paragraph; broaden this point to fast pivots with varying examples) . Offensive Pokemon are good partners for Golurk in general, as they either capitalize on Golurk's Stealth Rock support and strong offensive presence, or they can soften up the opposing team enough for Rock Polish Golurk to potentially sweep. (I split up the run on sentence. Also mentioning specific defensive checks was important, especially polterproof cofa that this set cannot deter; for that matter, compounding Poltergeist abusers with Froslass is a bad idea, whereas Rotom is better fit)

Swap around mentions; Eldegoss OHKO is the most relevant, unsure if Tangela is used enough to justify a mention. Trick allows Golurk to free itself of its Choice item constraint to better access its coverage while also making itemless targets, namely Cofagrigus, vulnerable to Poltergeist. Close Combat can be used to maximize Golurk's holepunching capabilities, as it can OHKO Alolan Persian after Stealth Rock damage while having a nearly guaranteed chance to 2HKO even physically defensive Avalugg outright. Both variants of Golurk can't set up in the face of faster offensive pressure, so teammates are needed to prepare ideal conditions for Golurk. I want some mention of well, bulky stuff like Wishiwashi / Weezing as teammates as Golurk doesn't fulfill the "general purpose physical wall" that other SR grounds do, and you have to make up for that (this is relevant mainly to the SR set). This sentence is a bit confused, perhaps too many ideas, eg the AVeil thing is nice, but not needed.

Specially offensive wallbreakers, such as Abomasnow, Magneton, Basculin, and Nasty Plot Toxicroak, can help to apply heavy offensive pressure by targeting physically defensive Pokemon for Golurk, while other powerful attackers, such as Rapidash, Sawk, Rotom, and Flapple, can still do a good job at weakening walls such as Tangela, Sandaconda, and itemless Cofagrigus.
