Indie Kids Unite

yeah i have been really getting into some more indie-esque music and have really enjoyed: modest mouse (all of their stuff is soooo good, especially the lonesome crowd heads west and i am seeing them in chicago in july!!!), murder by death (some quality southern-western indie from bloomington indiana, saw them live and it was outstanding), monsters of folk, bright eyes, cursive (which has been mentioned, but make sure you check out the ugly organ), passion pit (techno-ish with a very high pitched singer), sonic youth, titus andronicus. that should work for now.

My brother recently introduced me to The One AM Radio, oh man, I can't get enough. Hirway has such an amazing voice I dig it so much, and his voice is super mellow, perfect for right before bed.

I really hate that "indie" is a genre of music. It is short for "independent," as in an artist on an independent record label, something the Flaming Lips haven't been for years.
It happens in many genres, not just indie. Like how most country nowadays is actually pop and most metal nowadays is actually country (not including death metal and the like, more like radio metal).

And how most "Classical Music" is not at all from the Classical Era, most people lump Baroque, Romantic, Impressionist and Expressionist into Classical. Pretty much anything with a string section that doesn't use an ABA song template is considered Classical by "casual" listeners.

Anyways, you should all check out The Books. They're one of the best bands I've ever laid ears on. They did the freaking elevator music for the French Ministry of Culture!

Once again, The Books.

sheesh. I don't know what exactly you are looking for, but most people label me as an "indie" kid, as my musical taste is generally very eclectic and mostly for lesser known bands. if I mentioned specific albums for certain bands, I'd only listen to those; if I just listed their band name, basically any album will be just fine, or they only have one album.
if you listen to any of those and like them, I can possibly recommend other similar bands. those are just the ones off the top of my head that you "may" like.
