I also seem to be able to study well even while listening to rather weird, technical/experimental instrumental prog metal; it seems kind of counter-intuitive at first that something like that wouldn't mess up concentration.
yet when I actually tried it out, realised that Animals As Leaders for example is some of the best background music I've ever listened to (as well as very good music to pay attention to, but it doesn't take away your attention if you don't want that to happen, at least it works for me), here's a song from them.
