Some things I also wonder.
How does a SHINX intimidate a tyranitar?
How does togekiss learn focus punch?
How does snorlax fit into such a small egg?
According to the pokedex arbok is taller than groudon.wtf?
Wailord only weighs 877.4 pounds
Steelix the giant metal snake only weighs 881.8.This thing should weigh atleast several tons.
There are some other strange things aswell but I don't remember them right now.

There are some other strange things aswell but I don't remember them right now.
dodudo is flying with no wings. Gyrados flies like a chinese dragon.
mew is the ancestor of all pokemon, so it can learn and tm/tutor move (softboiled was a tm in rby). It conjures the eggs with its super psychic abilities
but dugtrio can scratch and slash with no hands...maybe it uses its nose?...but then they gave it sucker punch this gen...

Snakes are long, makes sense to me. What did you think groudon was as tall as a skyscraper? he's not, he's only 11 feet or something.
Maybe wailord is like an inflatable toy or something so it's full of air.
Maybe steelix is titanium
but metagross and groudon destroy snorlax, so they don't respect his heavyweight title... Dialga came later, but still loses to groudon...
If it were alluminum it wouldn't have 200 base def.

And the only thing I had to somehow contribute is the Wooper thing, but it was already mentioned. I can see why Togekiss gets Focus Punch (Togetic), Dugtrio gets Sucker Punch (its Japanese name is Ambush), and why do we have small Snorlax eggs (who cares about these details, seriously). But Wooper...

Steelix probably isn't metal all the way through... i'm sure he has organs
Steel is lighter than iron. Since he lives deep underground, i'm sure some minerals are mixed in there (carbon steel ftw)
and titanium is stronger and lighter than both (you missed that post)
