High-low My-low
[OVERVIEW]
Quagsire’s plethora of admirable defensive traits, such as its great typing, decent physical bulk, reliable recovery, and Unaware ability, allows it to maintain a niche on stall-based teams as a reliable check to threatening setup sweepers such as Mega Absol and Cobalion. Quagsire’s Electric-type immunity and key resistances to Fire-, Steel-, and Rock-type moves alongside its access to Toxic also allow it to take full advantage of Unaware to tank various physical hits, stall foes, and overall fit very comfortably on defensive teams. Unfortunately, Quagsire’s 4x weakness to Grass-type attacks leaves it extremely vulnerable to the likes of Celebi, Roserade, and Mega Sceptile, as well as to common carriers of Grass-type coverage such as Infernape and Heliolisk. Furthermore, Quagsire’s middling mixed bulk leaves it susceptible to special attackers and especially powerful physical attackers such as Crawdaunt and Haxorus, and its passiveness makes Swampert a better decision on non-stall teams. Overall, Quagsire is a rather niche option that only fits on very defensive teams, but can be very beneficial for its teammates as a stop to certain setup sweepers.

Moves
========
Scald allows Quagsire to burn physical attackers such as Swords Dance Lucario and Mega Absol, and Earthquake is a decently powerful secondary STAB attack that allows Quagsire to hit threats such as Chandelure and Empoleon for fair damage. Recover allows Quagsire to remain healthy throughout the match as well as stall foes out after inflicting status on them. Lastly, Toxic can be used to punish Quagsire’s common switch-ins in Hydreigon and Mega Blastoise; it aids Quagsire greatly in stalling these Pokemon out.
Set Details
========
252 EVs in HP and Defense allow Quagsire to make as much use of its physical bulk as possible and reliably tank powerful physical attacks, such as Cobalion's Close Combat and Krookodile's Earthquake. A Relaxed nature is preferred, as it further increases Quagsire's physically defensive prowess while only taking away from its Speed, which it won't often rely on. Leftovers provides Quagsire with passive recovery at the end of every turn, which is important for avoiding 2HKOs from the likes of Mamoswine and Mega Swampert and retaliating with Toxic or Scald.
Usage Tip
========
It is best to avoid status conditions when using Quagsire, as burn slowly wears it down and Toxic puts it on an undesirable timer. Quagsire should be switched into physical setup sweepers, as its impressive physical bulk and ability allow it to reliably tank the hits of most physical setup sweepers that are known to threaten stall. Unless it is resisted or immune, Quagsire should almost never come in on special attacks due to its poor Special Defense and lack of investment. Toxic and Recover are both good options when predicting the opponent to switch, as Quagsire will be able to either cripple the opponent's switch-in or recover its health and switch out. Due to narrowly avoiding 2HKOs from the likes of Jolly Lucario and Crawdaunt, Quagsire should usually be preserved and close to full health before these threats are brought out in order to adequately check them.
Team Options
========
Blissey is a great partner for Quagsire, as it is able to reliably switch into the special attacks Quagsire hates taking, such as any of Celebi's STAB attacks, Hydreigon's Dark Pulse, and Heliolisk's Grass Knot. Furthermore, Blissey is able to utilize its access to Heal Bell to heal Quagsire of any status ailments it's been hit with. Other specially bulky Pokemon, such as Porygon2 and Goodra, are also able to tank certain hits for Quagsire quite well. Pokemon that are able to tank Grass-type attacks, such as specially defensive Bronzong and Mega Aggron, are able to help compensate for Quagsire's 4x Grass weakness. Given their access to Heal Bell, Sylveon and Umbreon also make for good partners, as they are able to heal status ailments Quagsire is burdened with during a match. Additionally, both are able to provide decent offensive presence in the forms of Pixilate Hyper Voice and Foul Play, which can help compensate for Quagsire's lack of power. Quagsire is easily worn down by entry hazards, so it appreciates Defog or Rapid Spin support from the likes of Gligar, Mandibuzz, and Forretress. Roserade and Chesnaught both function as decent semi-stall partners for Quagsire, as both are able to come in on Grass-type attacks that it hates taking as well as provide it with Leech Seed support. Sableye is also able to function as a semi-stall partner for Quagsire, as it is able to invest in Special Defense and form a decent defensive core to help Quagsire with its low Special Defense. Additionally, Sableye can cripple especially powerful physical attackers that are able to break Quagsire, such as Lucario and Haxorus, with priority Will-O-Wisp.

Other Options
=============
Curse can be used to boost Quagsire's Defense to extremely high levels as well as give its Earthquake a bit more power, though Quagsire usually prefers Toxic to hit Pokemon immune to Scald burns and is outdone as a Curse user by Gastrodon. Haze can also be used in order to remove the stat boosts of Pokemon that may use Quagsire as setup fodder, such as Suicune and Haxorus. However, Suicune is able to stall Quagsire out with Pressure, and Haxorus is capable of 2HKOing Quagsire unboosted, so this generally isn't preferred over Toxic. Encore is another option that can be used to lock entry hazard setters or status spreaders into their non-attacking moves, though this is hard to pull off given Quagsire's low Speed.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Grass-type Pokemon**: Grass-type Pokemon such as Mega Sceptile, Chesnaught, and Mega Abomasnow can reliably switch into either of Quagsire's STAB attacks and OHKO it with their respective super effective STAB attacks. Celebi and Roserade in particular are good counters, as they can OHKO Quagsire with Giga Drain and use Natural Cure to relieve any status conditions they've been inflicted with.
**Powerful Special Attackers**: Powerful special attackers like Kyurem and Sylveon can threaten to OHKO or 2HKO Quagsire with their respective STAB attacks due to its poor Special Defense.
**Taunt**: Common wielders of the move Taunt such as Hydreigon, Sableye, and Mega Aerodactyl can all outspeed and shut Quagsire down, as it will be restricted to two rather weak attacks and have no way of recovering bar Leftovers.
**Status**: Quagsire is easily worn down by common status ailments in burn and poison, as the former will chip wear it down, and the latter will force it to use Recover after it takes too much residual damage.
**Haxorus**: Haxorus's access to Mold Breaker allows it to use Quagsire as setup fodder and threaten to OHKO after just one Swords Dance or Dragon Dance boost. Furthermore, Haxorus scoffs at Quagsire's attempts inflict status given that it frequently holds a Lum Berry.
