[OVERVIEW]

Qwilfish is one of the PU tier's top Spikes and Toxic Spikes setters thanks to its good physical bulk, solid defensive typing, and access to Intimidate, which lets it handle a good number of the tier's physical attackers such as Gurdurr and Skuntank. These qualities separate it from its main competition in Froslass, which is unable to handle the aforementioned Pokemon's Dark attacks and unable to remove Toxic Spikes. With a multitude of support moves to choose from, like Taunt, Thunder Wave, and Destiny Bond, Qwilfish is able to add a great amount of utility to teams and succeeds at performing different functions apart from setting entry hazards. Swords Dance also enables Qwilfish to function as a fast rain sweeper alongside its near unresisted STAB combination and ability to remove Toxic Spikes. However, Qwilfish lacks recovery, which means it's susceptible to getting chipped throughout the course of a game from hazards and continually switching into the Pokemon it needs to check like Hitmonchan and Gurdurr. Qwilfish also has a really poor Special Defense stat and is at the mercy of special attackers like Alolan Raichu and Drampa, which easily force it out. In addition, Qwilfish's passiveness means these special attackers have an even easier time threatening it, since it cannot do anything in return to force them out. Furthermore, outside of rain, Qwilfish struggles to break through bulkier walls such as Gurdurr and relies on Explosion in order to threaten these Pokemon.

Moves
========

Scald has the potential to burn opposing Pokemon, greatly crippling physical attackers such as Aggron and Primeape and preventing Dodrio from using Qwilfish as setup fodder. Waterfall is an alternative over Scald, having higher damage output and a flinch chance. Waterfall also lets Qwilfish hit Pokemon like Aurorus and Lycanroc for much more damage than Scald. Taunt is essential on Qwilfish to shut down slower Pokemon like Regirock, Quagsire, and Gurdurr, preventing them from setting up entry hazards, recovering, and setting up. Taunt also stops slower hazard removers like Skuntank and Articuno to keep Qwilfish's hazards on the field. Destiny Bond can be run over Toxic Spikes to take down slower Pokemon that are able to take Qwilfish out, such as Drampa and Mudsdale. Thunder Wave is also another option that allows Qwilfish to cripple faster Pokemon such as Primeape and Silvally formes, giving opportunities to slower teammates.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed investment with a Timid or Jolly nature allows Qwilfish to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Skuntank and in general gives it a faster Taunt and Destiny Bond. Timid is preferred if running Scald, and Jolly is superior if running Waterfall. Intimidate in conjunction with maximum HP investment gives Qwilfish better opportunities to set up entry hazards and allows it to take on physical attackers like Hitmonchan and Scyther. Rocky Helmet punishes physical attackers that utilize contact moves such as Hitmonchan and racks up damage against U-turn and Knock Off users like Scyther and Gurdurr. Alternatively, Black Sludge provides Qwilfish with the recovery it otherwise lacks and lets it better handle the chip damage it accumulates over the game.

Usage Tips
========

Qwilfish can come in on more passive Pokemon like Clefairy and Gurdurr, prevent them from setting up with Taunt, and set up Spikes when a switch is expected. It is ideal to do this early-game to immediately apply pressure with entry hazards. Taunt can also be used against slower hazard removers like Lurantis and Skuntank to stop them from removing hazards. Aside from setting up Spikes, Qwilfish is able to spread status with Thunder Wave to punish its switch-ins like Primeape, Jellicent, and Cryogonal. Once Qwilfish has fulfilled it role of setting hazards, Destiny Bond should be used against slower foes that are able to KO it like Choice Specs Aurorus and Victreebel, eliminating a wallbreaker from your opponent's side. Qwilfish should rely on teammates that have good matchups against the aforementioned Pokemon. If Qwilfish has been weakened enough, it is recommended just to bring in it and set up Spikes, as any defensive utility is gone once its health has been depleted. Destiny Bond can also be used at this point.

Team Options
========

Spinblockers are essential to have with Qwilfish, as they prevent its Spikes and Toxic Spikes from being removed. Golurk is notable for also doubling as an entry hazard setter. Other common spinblockers are Jellicent, Silvally-Ghost, and Oricorio-G, and all of them are able to reliably deal with Primeape, which Qwilfish cannot handle well. Oricorio-G and Choice Specs Jellicent also benefit from the entry hazards Qwilfish provides, and Jellicent can take advantage of Qwilfish's status by utilizing Hex. Primeape also works well with Qwilfish, deterring the use of Defog due to its ability Defiant and benefiting from the damage that Spikes provide. It also appreciates Qwilfish being able to handle Gurdurr, and Qwilfish appreciates Primeape handling Cryogonal and Aurorus. Kangaskhan and Omastar are examples of wallbreakers and sweepers that appreciate Qwilfish's Spikes. In return, Qwilfish handles the Fighting-type Pokemon that bother them like Hitmonchan and Gurdurr. Specially bulky Pokemon like Hitmonchan handle special attackers like Aurorus and Eelektross. Hitmonchan also possesses hazard removal in Rapid Spin, making sure that the hazards Qwilfish has set up do not disappear and increasing Qwilfish's longevity by preventing additional damage. Eelektross is also a nice partner for Qwilfish, handling fast Electric- and Psychic-type Pokemon like Alolan Raichu and Z-Lovely Kiss Jynx. It can also pivot back out to Qwilfish if they switch out, and Qwilfish can continue to apply pressure by setting up hazards.

[SET]
name: Rain Sweeper
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Waterfall / Liquidation
move 3: Poison Jab
move 4: Explosion
item: Life Orb / Waterium Z
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Waterfall and Liquidation are Qwilfish's options for rain-boosted STAB moves; the former is preferred for its 30% chance to cause a flinch to the opposing Pokemon, but the latter is also an option for increased damage and a potential Defense drop. Poison Jab hits Pokemon that resist Water such as Tangela, Drampa and Lanturn for more damage. Explosion is Qwilfish's strongest move and can instantly break through any Pokemon that are not in range of its STAB attacks like Gastrodon. Explosion also offers momentum and allows one of Qwilfish's teammates to come in.

Set Details
========

An Adamant nature is preferred over Jolly to maximize Qwilfish's wallbreaking power, especially when rain is active. Life Orb offers a consistent boost in damage but gives Qwilfish recoil damage after every attack. Waterium Z gives Qwilfish a one-time nuke, easily chunking opposing Pokemon under rain, especially at +2 Attack, without the recoil Life Orb possesses.

Usage Tips
========

Qwilfish should be brought in ideally when rain is active on the field, as Swift Swim allows it to outspeed every unboosted Pokemon in the tier and rain boosts its damage output. While Qwilfish to able to switch into weaker attacks like Hitmonchan and Gurdurr's Drain Punch, its poor bulk limits opportunities to switch in against other Pokemon. Swords Dance should only be used against more passive Pokemon like Clefairy and Audino, which cannot damage Qwilfish reliably, or against threats Qwilfish forces out, such as Golurk. Explosion should only be used to knock out specific threats like Quagsire or generate momentum by bringing in another teammate like Ludicolo. Using this move at the right time is a necessity, as Qwilfish is sacrificed. Qwilfish's status as one of the fastest Swift Swim Pokemon in the tier benefits rain teams, and bringing it in to revenge kill Choice Scarf users like Manectric and Scyther, which are able to outspeed partners like Ludicolo, helps out the team.

Team Options
========

Rain setters such as Volbeat and Liepard are required in order for this set to function properly. Liepard and Volbeat also offer U-turn support, and both have access to Prankster, which ensures rain can be safely set up. Other rain sweepers like Kabutops, Ludicolo, and Omastar work well with Qwilfish, since it is able to break opposing Pokemon to give them a better time cleaning as well. The latter two break through physical walls like Gurdurr, which Qwilfish has trouble dealing with, and Qwilfish handles Poliwrath and Tangela for Kabutops, which easily wall it. Pokemon that also deal with Choice Scarf Aurorus and Abomasnow are ideal, since they stop rain with their hail and outspeed Qwilfish. Choice Scarf Primeape is a good example, being able to threaten the two of them with Close Combat. In addition, Alolan Sandslash uses the hail Aurorus and Abomasnow sets up against them and checks them with Iron Head. Assault Vest Crabominable is also notable for its ability to threaten them with super effective STAB Fighting attacks and appreciates rain weakening Fire-type attacks.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Poison Jab is an option in the fourth slot of the utility set, giving Qwilfish an option to hit Water-resistant Pokemon better, such as Lanturn, as well as Fairy-types like Silvally-Fairy and Clefairy. Poison Jab pressures the former to not use Defog. However, it is more beneficial for Qwilfish to run one of its utility moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond for crippling other foes. Running Protect on the utility set enables Qwilfish to scout against Choice Scarf Primeape, which can activate its ability Defiant against Qwilfish and potentially do a lot of damage. Pain Split gives utility Qwilfish a more reliable recovery over Black Sludge, especially if you have opted for Rocky Helmet, but Qwilfish's other utility moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond tend to be more useful in games and are very good at crippling certain threats. Maximum Defense investment instead of Speed on the utility set makes Qwilfish bulkier to better take on threats like Stoutland; however, Qwilfish loses out on speed, which is quite important in order to use Taunt on certain Pokemon, and is left more vulnerable to Pokemon like Aurorus.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Special Attackers**: Special attackers such as Jynx, Alolan Raichu, and Oricorio-E easily threaten out Qwilfish with their strong attacks due to Qwilfish's low Special Defense stat and can use Qwilfish as setup fodder.

**Taunt Users**: Faster Taunt users like Froslass and Alolan Persian prevent Qwilfish from setting up entry hazards and stop Qwilfish from utilizing its status moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond. Froslass is able to set up its own Spikes, and Alolan Persian can pivot into something that checks Qwilfish.

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Hazard removers like Silvally-Fairy and Rotom-F shut down Qwilfish's attempts to set up Spikes or Toxic Spikes. Both possess Thunderbolt to check Qwilfish, but Silvally-Fairy has to be careful about Poison Jab.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Rain sweeper Qwilfish struggles to break through bulkier Pokemon like Quagsire and Gastrodon, which take Qwilfish's attacks quite well. Nevertheless, Explosion can catch these Pokemon off guard and deal a good amount of damage.

  • Qwilfish is one of the PU tier's top Spikes and Toxic Spikes setters, thanks to its good physical bulk, solid defensive typing and access to Intimidate, which lets it handle a good amount of the tier's physical attackers such as Dodrio and Skuntank. (it doesn't rlly handle dod, replace with gurdurr)
  • With an multitude of support moves to choose from, like Taunt, Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond, Qwilfish is able to add a great amount of utility to teams and succeeds at performing different functions apart from setting hazards.
  • Qwilfish is also able to function as a fast rain sweeper in conjunction with Swords Dance, alongside with its near unresisted dual-STAB and its ability to remove Toxic Spikes, make it an ideal pokemon on rain teams. (also mention explosion, it's a reason as to why it's so good imo, as it opens the way for kabu to clean w/ gastro and stuff gone)
  • However, Qwilfish lacks recovery which means it's susceptible to getting chipped throughout the course of a game from opposing hazards and continuous switching into the pokemon it needs to check like Hitmonchan and Gurdurr.
  • Qwilfish also has a really poor Special Defense stat, and is at the mercy of special attackers like Mesprit, Raichu-A and Guzzlord, which easily force it out.
  • In addition, Qwilfish tends to be quite passive, due to Scald coming off its lackluster Special Attack and Waterfall not doing a lot without investment. (merge this with the previous point, as usually what makes special attackers so threatening is because it's extremely passive)(also mention that these have to be wary of dbond variants of qwil)
  • As a rain sweeper, it faces competition with Kabutops, which has more immediate power without a Swords Dance boost and it relies on rain to break through bulkier pokemon such as Gurdurr and Mesprit. (i mean, kabu too, kinda. idk abt this point, as usually you see them on the same team. you can keep it, but personally i'd nuke it)
  • Nevertheless, Qwilfish's amazing utility and its breaking power under rain make it an overall solid pokemon on many teams.

Moves
  • Spikes lets opposing pokemon take damage upon switching in and Qwilfish is a solid user of this move, due to its decent bulk, its ability and it is able to deal with opposing hazard removers like Hitmonchan. (remove, basic info)
  • Scald has the potential to burn opposing pokemon, crippling physical attackers greatly such as Dodrio and Primeape. (also mention that it deters stuff like dod (which u already mention) from using it as setup fodder)
  • Waterfall is an alternative over Scald, thanks to its higher damage output and the potential flinch chance. Waterfall also lets Qwilfish hit pokemon like Aurorus and Lycanroc for much more damage than Scald
  • Taunt is essential on Qwilfish, since it allows it to beat slower pokemon like Regirock, Quagsire and Gurdurr, preventing them from setting up hazards, recovering or setting up respectively. (mention that it also allows it to taunt stuff like skunk, which may try to remove its spikes)
  • Toxic Spikes is amazing chip damage, either poisoning or badly poisoning and alongside with Spikes, pressures opposing pokemon immensely. (basic info, remove)
  • Alternatively, Destiny Bond can be run to take down slower pokemon that are able to take Qwilfish out, such as Mesprit or Guzzlord.
  • Thunder Wave is also another option that allows Qwilfish to cripple faster pokemon such as Primeape and Silvally forms, giving opportunities to slower teammates to threaten them.
Set Details
========
  • Maximum investment with Timid or Jolly nature allow Qwilfish to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Skuntank
  • Timid is preferred if running Scald and Jolly is preferred if running Waterfall. (you can merge this with the previous point)
  • Intimidate is Qwilfish's preferred ability, which allows it to take on the tier's physical attackers in conjunction with maximum HP investment, Qwilfish can handle pokemon like Aggron and Kangaskhan. (this sounds redundant and it's not even true. replace aggron and kanga with hitmonchan and scyther)
  • Rocky Helmet punishes physical attackers that utilise contact moves such as Hitmonchan and racks up damage against U-Turn (and koff) users like Scyther (and gurdurr).
  • Black Sludge provides Qwilfish with the recovery it lacks and lets Qwilfish better handle the chip damage it accumulates over the game. Running Black Sludge also punishes Trick users like Choice Scarf Manectric by whittling at their HP. (this one uses switcheroo, and it already has a really mediocre bulk so it doesnt matter most of the time. i'd nuke the trick / switcheroo part bc users of these moves all beat qwil)
Usage Tips
========
  • Qwilfish is able to pivot into physical attackers early to mid game and start setting up its hazards. It is ideal to set up hazards as early as possible. (nuke this, you already semi-cover this with the next point)
  • Qwilfish can come in on more passive opposing pokemon like Clefairy and Gurdurr and prevent them setting up with Taunt and set up Spikes when a switch is expected. Taunt can also be used against against slower hazard removers like Lurantis and Skuntank and stop them removing hazards.
  • (mention that, while it's bulky, it shouldnt be used as a switchin to strong stuff like stout)
  • Aside from setting up Spikes, Qwilfish is able to spread status with Thunder Wave (and scald) to punish switch-ins that deal with Qwilfish like Mesprit and Cryogonal.
  • Use Destiny Bond on Qwilfish when a slower foe is able to KO it like Choice Specs Aurorus or Mesprit, eliminating a wallbreaker from your opponent's side.
  • Avoid bringing in Qwilfish against opposing Primeape, which activates its Defiant when Qwilfish is brought in against it and it can start to inflict a good amount of damage. (this is a fine point, but imo just say mon with defiant / competitive / contrary)
  • Be aware of Qwilfish's health, as it's a pokemon that has the job of constantly being physical attackers in check. If Qwilfish is low on HP, bringing it in is ideal because it can let off an Intimidate and potential Rocky Helmet damage. (idk abt this point honestly, like most of the time if it's whittled down it's bc it's used to check what it's supposed to check)

Team Options
========
  • Stealth rock setters increase the incoming chip damage the opposing pokemon take when switching in. Mesprit and Clefairy are ideal, especially Mesprit, which is a Ground immunity that Qwilfish appreciates to switch in against pokemon like Mudsdale. Mesprit also has Healing Wish support and a slow U-turn to keep Qwilfish healthy throughout the game and gets it in easier respectively. (it also acts as a secondary fighting check)
  • Spinblockers are also essential to have with Qwilfish, as they prevent Spikes and Toxic Spikes being removed. Notable spinblockers are Jellicent, Silvally-Ghost and Oricorio-G, and all of them are able to reliably deal with Primeape, which Qwilfish cannot handle well. (mention golurk. say that it also acts as a rocker, give it its own sentence)
  • Primeape also works well with Qwilfish, detering the use of Defog due to its ability Defiant and benefits the damage that Spikes provide. It appreciates Qwilfish being able to handle Gurdurr and Qwilfish appreciates Primeape handling Cryogonal and Aurorus.
  • Kangaskhan and Omastar are examples of wallbreakers and sweepers that appreciate Qwilfish's Spikes. They are able to wallbreak easier and Qwilfish handles the Fighting type pokemon that bother them like Hitmonchan and Gurdurr.
  • Special walls like Eelektross handle special attackers like Raichu-Alola and Mesprit. (i mean, no. eel rlly dislikes switching into both and it's not even supposed to switch into stuff. replace it with chan, and say that it checks stuff like guzz and eelektross for qwil) Eelektross has an easy time pivoting with Volt Switch on the anticipated switch and gives Qwilfish a chance to lay its hazards. Eelektross handles Electric types like the aforementioned Raichu-Alola, Oricorio-E and Lanturn and Qwilfish pressures physical attackers that Eelektross has trouble against, like Kangaskhan and Lycanroc.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Swords Dance doubles Qwilfish's Attack and opens opportunities for it to break through bulkier pokemon such as defensive Mesprit and Tangela with ease. (fluff, remove)
  • Waterfall is one of Qwilfish's STAB attacks, which is boosted by rain, allowing Qwilfish to deal good amounts of damage to anything that doesn't resist.
  • Liquidation hits slightly harder than Waterfall if Life Orb and a Swords Dance boost are factored in but Waterfall still has the flinch factor, which can turn out to be quite important in some matchups.
  • Poison Jab is Qwilfish's other STAB attack, which hits pokemon that resist Water, such as Tangela, Guzzlord and Lanturn for more damage.
  • Explosion is Qwilfish's strongest move and can instantly break through any pokemon that are not in range of your dual-STAB attacks.(of its) Explosion also offers momentum and allows one of Qwilfish's teammates to come in. (pokemon such as? mention gastrodon)
Set Details
========
  • Maximum Attack and Speed investment allow Qwilfish to hit as hard as it can and be as fast as it can. An Adamant nature is preferred to maximise Qwilfish's wallbreaking power, especially when rain is active.
  • Jolly does allow Qwilfish to outspeed pokemon like Skuntank and Kangaskhan outside of rain but the power difference isn't worth it in the end. (give some examples of notable ohko / 2hkoes u miss w/ jolly)
  • Life Orb offers a consistent boost in damage but gives Qwilfish recoil damage after every attack.
  • Waterium Z gives Qwilfish a one-time nuke, easily chunking opposing pokemon easily under rain and especially at +2 Attack and without the recoil Life Orb possesses.
Usage Tips
========
  • Qwilfish should be brought in ideally when rain is active on the field, as Swift Swim allows it to outspeed every mon in the tier and rain boosts its damage output.
  • Directly switching in Qwilfish is not recommended, since the lack of Intimidate and HP investment leave it more vulnerable so bringing it in on a slow U-Turn, either from Mesprit or Volbeat is suggested.
  • Also, Qwilfish's typing does allow it to switch in on predicted weaker moves, such as Fighting-type attacks from Gurdurr or Hitmonchan.
  • By virtue of its Poison typing, Qwilfish can be switched in in order to remove Toxic Spikes, which tends to be a hindrance for rain builds, which appreciate not getting slowly chipped. (remove it's an obvious point)
  • Swords Dance should only be used against more passive opposing pokemon like Clefairy, which are unable to pose you much trouble. (mention stuff like audino and hitmonchan)
  • If you are unable to take out the opposing pokemon with either of your dual-STAB, using Explosion is ideal since it has a high damage output and it gives free momentum, allowing in partners like Ludicolo or Kabutops.
  • Qwilfish being the fastest Swift Swim pokemon in the tier benefits rain teams and bringing it in to revenge kill scarfers like Manectric or Scyther, which are able to outspeed partners like Ludicolo helps out the team.
Team Options
========
  • Rain setters such as Mesprit, Volbeat and Liepard are required in order for this set to function properly. Mesprit offers Stealth Rock, chipping foes and giving Qwilfish an easier time of sweeping alongside with a slow U-Turn, making sure Qwilfish gets in safely. Liepard and Volbeat also offer U-Turn support and both have access to Prankster, which ensures rain is always active.
  • Other rain sweepers, like Ludicolo, Kabutops and Omastar work well with Qwilfish since it is able to break opposing pokemon and that allows its teammates to have a better time cleaning as well. The latter two break through physical walls like Mesprit and Gurdurr, which Qwilfish has trouble dealing with and Qwilfish handles Poliwrath and Tangela for Kabutops, which easily wall it. (qwil doesnt deal with tangela)
  • Pokemon that also deal with Choice Scarf Aurorus and Abomasnow are ideal, since they stop rain with their hail and outspeed Qwilfish. Scarf Ape (lol) is a good example, being able to threaten the two of them with Close Combat and also Assault Vest Hitmonchan, (just hitmonchan) which also threatens them with a Mach Punch. (no snowslash mention?)
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Poison Jab is an option in the fourth slot, giving Qwilfish an option to hit Water resistant pokemon better, such as Lanturn and hit Fairy-types like Silvally-Fairy (mention that it allows qwil to pressure it, as otherwise it just defogs) and Clefairy. However, it is more beneficial for Qwilfish to run one of its utility moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond and sacrifice not hitting Fairy-types for crippling other foes.
Checks and Counters
===================

Electric Types: Electric types such as Eelektross, Raichu-A and Lanturn easily threaten Qwilfish with their super-effective STAB Electric attacks. The former two have access to Volt Switch, easily grabbing momentum for their team. Raichu-A also easily sets up Nasty Plot in front of Qwilfish and becomes a huge threat to deal with. Rotom-F and Oricorio-E are other examples that outspeed Qwilfish and check it. Rotom-F also defogs away Qwilfish's hazards and Volt Switches against it.

Psychic Types: Mesprit and Jynx are examples of Psychic types that also easily check Qwilfish due to its poor Special Defense stat and is KO'd by their super-effective STAB attacks. Defensive Mesprit handles offensive Qwilfish sets and easily U-turns on the predicted switch, creating momentum. Offensive Mesprit and Jynx also set up Calm Mind and Nasty Plot respectively against Qwilfish.

Special Attackers: Special attackers like Specs Guzzlord, Drampa and Omastar easily deal huge amounts of damage to Qwilfish and they don't particularly mind its attacks. (just merge the first 3 points together, all of the mons u mentions are special attackers anyway)

Taunt Users: Faster Taunt users like Froslass and Persian-A prevent Qwilfish from setting up hazards and stop Qwilfish utilising its status moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond and Froslass is able to set up its own Spikes and Persian-A pivots into something that checks Qwilfish.

Entry Hazard Removal: Hazard removers like Silvally-Fairy and Skuntank shut down Qwilfish attempting to set up Spikes or Toxic Spikes. The latter also removes Toxic Spikes on the switch in and the former runs Thunderbolt to check Qwilfish.

**Strong Physical Attackers**: (yes it's bulky, but it shouldnt be used as a switchin to stuff like stout)

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: (it struggles to break through mons like quag, for example)

  • Use Destiny Bond on Qwilfish when a slower foe is able to KO it like Choice Specs Aurorus or Mesprit, eliminating a wallbreaker from your opponent's side.
Team Options
========
Furthermore, Mesprit is another Fighting-type check alongside Qwilfish.
  • Spinblockers are also essential to have with Qwilfish, as they prevent Spikes and Toxic Spikes being removed. (give golurk its own sentence here) Notable spinblockers are Jellicent, Silvally-Ghost and Oricorio-G, and all of them are able to reliably deal with Primeape, which Qwilfish cannot handle well.
  • Golurk in particular doubles as a Stealth Rock setter and a spinblocker. (remove this point)
  • Special walls like Hitmonchan handle special attackers like Guzzlord and Eelektross. Hitmonchan is also hazard removal and makes sure Qwilfish doesn't take additional damage, giving it more longevity.

Moves
========
(life orb and sd dont need to be factored in, as liquidation hits harder)
  • Poison Jab is Qwilfish's other STAB attack, which hits pokemon that resist Water, such as Tangela, Guzzlord and Lanturn for more damage.
  • Explosion is Qwilfish's strongest move and can instantly break through any pokemon that are not in range of its dual-STAB attacks like Gastrodon. Explosion also offers momentum and allows one of Qwilfish's teammates to come in like Ludicolo.
Set Details
========
  • Maximum Attack and Speed investment allow Qwilfish to hit as hard as it can and be as fast as it can. An Adamant nature is preferred to maximise Qwilfish's wallbreaking power, especially when rain is active.
  • Jolly does allow Qwilfish to outspeed pokemon like Skuntank and Kangaskhan outside of rain but the power difference isn't worth it in the end as you have a lower chance of 2hko defensive Mesprit under rain.
Usage Tips
========
  • Swords Dance should only be used against more passive opposing pokemon like Clefairy and Audino, which cannot damage you reliably. (or threats you force out)
  • If you are unable to take out the opposing pokemon with either of your dual-STAB, using Explosion is ideal since it has a high damage output and it gives free momentum, allowing in partners like Ludicolo or Kabutops.
  • Qwilfish being the fastest Swift Swim pokemon (floatzel is faster, although it isn't rlly common) in the tier benefits rain teams and bringing it in to revenge kill scarfers like Manectric or Scyther, which are able to outspeed partners like Ludicolo helps out the team.
Team Options
========
(i mean, ludi breaks through gurdurr easier, so maybe change it the order and put kabu first. they also have similar answers)
  • Pokemon that also deal with Choice Scarf Aurorus and Abomasnow are ideal, since they stop rain with their hail and outspeed Qwilfish. Scarf Ape is a good example, being able to threaten the two of them with Close Combat and also Assault Vest Hitmonchan, which also threatens them with a Mach Punch. (you didnt mention snowslash, and chan doesnt even need to be av or mach punch them to threaten them)
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Poison Jab is an option in the fourth slot, giving Qwilfish an option to hit Water resistant pokemon better, such as Lanturn and hit Fairy-types like Silvally-Fairy and Clefairy. Poison Jab pressures the former to not use Defog. However, it is more beneficial for Qwilfish to run one of its utility moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond and sacrifice not hitting Fairy-types for crippling other foes.
  • offensive spikes
Checks and Counters
===================

Special Attackers: Special attackers such as Specs Guzzlord, (doesnt need to be specs) Mesprit and Oricorio-E easily threaten out Qwilfish with their strong attacks, due to Qwilfish's low Special Defense stat. The latter is able to outspeed Qwilfish and hit it with a super-effective Revelation Dance. (the former two need to be wary abt dbond though, so mention that)

(rotom-f too)

Stronger Physical Attackers: Qwilfish is unable to switch in to pokemon like Choice Band Stoutland and finds itself 2hko by the latter even after an attack drop. (say that while it's bulky, it can easily be overwhelmed by strong attackers instead)

Physically Bulky Pokemon: Qwilfish struggles to break through bulkier pokemon like Quagsire. (and gastrodon) (mention that explosion can catch them off guard)

[OVERVIEW]
  • Qwilfish is one of the PU tier's top Spikes and Toxic Spikes setters, thanks to its good physical bulk, solid defensive typing and access to Intimidate, which lets it handle a good amount of the tier's physical attackers such as Gurdurr and Skuntank (specify how some of these qualities give it a niche over froslass which is currently the tier's top spiker).
  • With an multitude of support moves to choose from, like Taunt, Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond, Qwilfish is able to add a great amount of utility to teams and succeeds at performing different functions apart from setting hazards.
  • Qwilfish is also able to function as a fast rain sweeper in conjunction with Swords Dance, alongside with its near unresisted dual-STAB and its ability to remove Toxic Spikes.
In addition, Qwilfish's passiveness means these special attackers have an even easier time threating it since it cannot do anything in return to force them out.
  • Outside of rain, it struggles to break through bulkier walls such as Mesprit and relies on Explosion in order to threaten these pokemon.
  • Nevertheless, Qwilfish's amazing utility and its breaking power under rain make it an overall solid pokemon on many teams. (i dont rly see a need for this bullet, I understand it's to end on a positive note but we already know this information)

Moves
  • Scald has the potential to burn opposing pokemon, crippling physical attackers greatly such as Aggron and Primeape and prevents Dodrio from using Qwilfish as setup fodder.
  • Waterfall is an alternative over Scald, thanks to its higher damage output and the potential flinch chance. Waterfall also lets Qwilfish hit pokemon like Aurorus and Lycanroc for much more damage than Scald
  • Taunt is essential on Qwilfish, since it allows it to beat slower pokemon like Regirock, Quagsire and Gurdurr (you dont beat the former two, you just prevent them from using their utility moves. rephrase this), preventing them from setting up hazards, recovering or setting up respectively. Taunt also stops slower hazard removers like Skuntank and (and what) keeps its hazards on the field.
Set Details
========
  • Maximum investment with Timid or Jolly nature allow Qwilfish to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Skuntank (and in general it gives you the fastest possible taunt/dbond). Timid is preferred if running Scald and Jolly is preferred if running Waterfall.
  • Intimidate is Qwilfish's preferred ability, which allows it to take on the tier's physical attackers in conjunction with maximum HP investment, Qwilfish can handle pokemon like Hitmonchan and Scyther (and facilitates its opportunities to set spikes).
  • Rocky Helmet punishes physical attackers that utilise contact moves such as Hitmonchan and racks up damage against U-Turn and Knock Off users like Scyther and Gurdurr (specifically note rapid spin).
  • Black Sludge provides Qwilfish with the recovery it lacks and lets Qwilfish better handle the chip damage it accumulates over the game.
Usage Tips
========
  • Qwilfish can come in on more passive opposing pokemon like Clefairy and Gurdurr and prevent them setting up with Taunt and set up Spikes when a switch is expected (mention how doing this as early in the match as possible allows it to apply immediate pressure on teams with entry hazards). Taunt can also be used against against slower hazard removers like Lurantis and Skuntank and stop them removing hazards.
  • Despite Qwilfish's decent physical bulk in addition with Intimidate, Qwilfish shouldn't be brought in against stronger physical wallbreakers like Stoutland (or sparingly rather — it can still come in on certain physical attackers to weaken them or pressure their team with spikes/dbond. talking about its preservation early-game seems more appropriate).
  • Aside from setting up Spikes, Qwilfish is able to spread status with Thunder Wave to punish switch-ins that deal with Qwilfish like Mesprit, Guzzlord, and Cryogonal.
  • Use Destiny Bond on Qwilfish when a slower foe is able to KO it like Choice Specs Aurorus or Mesprit, eliminating a wallbreaker from your opponent's side (I'd only encourage its use if knocking out said pokemon is imperative or qwilfish has fulfilled its role).
  • (highlight some of the shaky matchups qwilfish has against entry hazard setters like mesprit, mudsdale, froslass, etc. and how qwilfish should go about entering play accordingly)
  • (if qwilfish has been weakened enough you can usually neglect its defensive utility to quickly set up entry hazards before going out. dbond also comes into play here)
Team Options
========
  • Stealth rock setters increase the incoming chip damage the opposing pokemon take when switching in (yeah no shit this is what sr does. im sure you meant to say an entry hazard core but just extend the second sentence to mention that they're a core). Other common spinblockers are Jellicent, Silvally-Ghost, and Oricorio-G, and all of them are able to reliably deal with Primeape, which Qwilfish cannot handle well (ori-g and specs jellicent also appreciate entry hazards wearing things down and jellicent can even utilize hex with tspikes/twave).
  • Kangaskhan and Omastar are examples of wallbreakers and sweepers that appreciate Qwilfish's Spikes (qwilfish's intimidate also gives them better chances of entering play and setting up). They are able to wallbreak easier and Qwilfish handles the Fighting type pokemon that bother them like Hitmonchan and Gurdurr.
  • Special walls like Hitmonchan (it's not a special wall, specially bulky would be more appropriate) handle special attackers like Guzzlord and Eelektross. • Waterium Z gives Qwilfish a one-time nuke, easily chunking opposing pokemon easily under rain and especially at +2 Attack and without the recoil Life Orb possesses (what are some notable koes this has over lorb).
Usage Tips

  • Directly switching in Qwilfish is not recommended, since the lack of Intimidate and HP investment leave it more vulnerable so bringing it in on a slow U-Turn, either from Mesprit or Volbeat is suggested.
  • Also, Qwilfish's typing does allow it to switch in on predicted weaker moves, such as Fighting-type attacks from Gurdurr or Hitmonchan (this can also be merged into one sentence — "while qwilfish can come in on things like x and y, its otherwise poor bulk limits opportunities to switch in against other pokemon").
  • Swords Dance should only be used against more passive opposing pokemon like Clefairy and Audino, which cannot damage you reliably or against threats you force out, such as Golurk.

  • Qwilfish being one of the fastest Swift Swim pokemon in the tier benefits rain teams and bringing it in to revenge kill scarfers like Manectric or Scyther, which are able to outspeed partners like Ludicolo helps out the team (this seems more appropriate for a team options introduction as a pokemon that can take care of specific threats to rain teams)
  • (what pokemon should be weakened before attempting to sweep? while explosion can break though something like gastrodon it forces you to sacrifice it so being able to use its stab moves more freely would be nice).
Team Options
========
Liepard and Volbeat also offer U-Turn support and both have access to Prankster, which ensures rain is always active (you make it sound like rain will always be up which is clearly incorrect).
  • Other rain sweepers, like Kabutops, Ludicolo and Omastar work well with Qwilfish since it is able to break opposing pokemon and that allows its teammates to have a better time cleaning as well. The latter two break through physical walls like Mesprit and Gurdurr, which Qwilfish has trouble dealing with (z-move qwilfish uses gurdurr as setup fodder) and Qwilfish handles Poliwrath and Tangela for Kabutops, which easily wall it.
  • Pokemon that also deal with Choice Scarf Aurorus and Abomasnow are ideal, since they stop rain with their hail and outspeed Qwilfish. Scarf Ape is a good example, being able to threaten the two of them with Close Combat. In addition, Sandslash-Alola uses the hail the aforementioned pokemon start up against them and checks them with Iron Head. Hitmonchan is also notable for its ability to threaten them with super-effective STAB Fighting attacks (av crab is better on rain imo, just a better offensive presence and appreciates rain weakening fire moves).

  • Poison Jab is an option in the fourth slot (on the spikes set), giving Qwilfish an option to hit Water resistant pokemon better, such as Lanturn and hit Fairy-types like Silvally-Fairy and Clefairy. Poison Jab pressures the former to not use Defog. However, it is more beneficial for Qwilfish to run one of its utility moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond and sacrifice not hitting Fairy-types for crippling other foes.
  • (I think protect is a really cool tech on spikes sets since most qwilfish teams are super primeape weak since you proc defiant and protect gives you a free scouting tool and a turn for tspikes damage/sludge recovery. also scouts for things like scarf mes which is neat)
Checks and Counters
===================

Special Attackers: Special attackers such as Guzzlord, Mesprit and Oricorio-E easily threaten out Qwilfish with their strong attacks, due to Qwilfish's low Special Defense stat. The latter is able to outspeed Qwilfish and hit it with a super-effective Revelation Dance. However, the former two must be wary of Destiny Bond since Qwilfish is faster (you should be listing faster special attackers, the only one here is pompom)(alolan raichu and oricorios can also use qwilfish as setup fodder).

Taunt Users: Faster Taunt users like Froslass and Persian-A prevent Qwilfish from setting up hazards and stop Qwilfish utilising its status moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond and Froslass is able to set up its own Spikes and Persian-A pivots into something that checks Qwilfish (this is a big run-on sentence, put a period after destiny bond).

Entry Hazard Removal: Hazard removers like Silvally-Fairy, Rotom-F and Skuntank shut down Qwilfish attempting to set up Spikes or Toxic Spikes (you taunt skuntank?). The latter also removes Toxic Spikes on the switch in and the former two possess Thunderbolt to check Qwilfish.

Stronger Physical Attackers: While it is bulky, Qwilfish is overwhelmed by pokemon like Choice Band Stoutland and finds itself 2hko by the latter even after an attack drop (there's maybe 2 applicable pokemon that fit under here, I would just remove this altogether tbh. if you wanted to highlight stoutland at all it'd be a section dedicated to pokemon that can limit its turns to set spikes).

Physically Bulky Pokemon: Qwilfish struggles to break through bulkier pokemon like Quagsire and Gastrodon, which take Qwilfish's attacks quite well. Nevertheless, Explosion can catch these pokemon out and deal a good amount of damage.

there's a few issues with this analysis in terms of structuring — there's some typos scattered throughout but the main one is stringing points together. referencing other sentences and using phrases like former/latter and respectively should be used sparingly because excessive use can make reading this hard for new users. this is pretty evident in sections like team options when it should be much easier and more cohesive to understand what I should pair this thing with but I'm too busy trying to understand what the 4th or so cross-reference is supposed to tell me. You're a good writer, and there's a clear understanding of how to use this Pokemon being demonstrated here, but do look for ways to make your writing flow better. 2/3 when this is done tho good work

idk that this really gets across why fish is good, it kinda has the basic points of checking most physical things and being very good at setting hazards, but somehow it ends up not terribly clear at all

Set Details

Maximum investment with Timid or Jolly nature allow Qwilfish to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Skuntank and in general gives you the fastest Taunt/Destiny Bond. Timid is preferred if running Scald and Jolly is preferred if running Waterfall. Intimidate is Qwilfish's preferred ability, which allows it to take on the tier's physical attackers in conjunction with maximum HP investment, Qwilfish can handle pokemon like Hitmonchan and Scyther and gives it better opportunities to set up hazards. Rocky Helmet punishes physical attackers that utilise contact moves such as Hitmonchan and racks up damage against U-Turn and Knock Off users like Scyther and Gurdurr. Albeit situational, the use of Rocky Helmet can prevent the removal of hazards via Rapid Spin if the user, such as Hitmonchan faint from the recoil this could go in usage tips instead. Black Sludge provides Qwilfish with the recovery it lacks and lets Qwilfish better handle the chip damage it accumulates over the game.

Usage Tips
========

Qwilfish can come in on more passive opposing pokemon like Clefairy and Gurdurr and prevent them setting up with Taunt and set up Spikes when a switch is expected. It is ideal to do this early on into the game to immediately apply pressure with entry hazards. Taunt can also be used against against slower hazard removers like Lurantis and Skuntank and stop them removing hazards. Despite Qwilfish's decent physical bulk in addition with Intimidate, Qwilfish should be used sparingly in the early-game this directly contradicts the first sentence about wanting to spike early and has nothing to do with the last half of the sentence, idk why it's here at all. you don't need to use it sparingly early game and not be brought in against stronger physical wallbreakers like Stoutland in order for Qwilfish to still perform its roles. Aside from setting up Spikes, Qwilfish is able to spread status with Thunder Wave to punish switch-ins that deal with Qwilfish like Mesprit, Guzzlord, and Cryogonal. Destiny Bond on Qwilfish should be used once it has fulfilled its role of setting hazards against slower foes that are able to KO it like Choice Specs Aurorus or Mesprit, eliminating a wallbreaker from your opponent's side. Qwilfish has hard matchups against entry hazard setters like Mesprit, Mudsdale and Froslass. It is ideal for Qwilfish not to brought in against them since they all have ways to deal with it this sentence is so obvious that it doesn't need to be here, you don't switch things in on pokemon that beat it. the second sentence isn't any better either, it could be turned into a team option but again, you're obviously not using qwilfish to beat a mesprit. there's no usage tip contained in this bit. Qwilfish should rely on teammates that have good matchups against the aforementioned pokemon. If Qwilfish has been weakned enough, it is recommended just to bring in it and just set up Spikes, as any defensive utility is gone once its health has been depleted. Destiny Bond can also be used at this point.

Team Options
========

Mesprit and Clefairy are ideal teammates for Qwilfish, especially Mesprit, which is a Ground immunity that Qwilfish appreciates to switch in against pokemon like Mudsdale. Mesprit also has Healing Wish support and a slow U-turn to keep Qwilfish healthy throughout the game and gets it in easier respectively. Furthermore, Mesprit is another Fighting-type check alongside Qwilfish. Spinblockers are also essential to have with Qwilfish, as they prevent Spikes and Toxic Spikes being removed. Golurk, in particular is notable for being both a hazard setter and a spinblocker and complements well with Qwilfish. Other common spinblockers are Jellicent, Silvally-Ghost and Oricorio-G, and all of them are able to reliably deal with Primeape, which Qwilfish cannot handle well. In addition. Oricorio-G and Specs Jellicent also benefit from the entry hazards Qwilfish provides and Jellicent is able complement status like poison and paralysis by utilising Hex. Primeape also works well with Qwilfish, detering the use of Defog due to its ability Defiant and benefits the damage that Spikes provide. It appreciates Qwilfish being able to handle Gurdurr and Qwilfish appreciates Primeape handling Cryogonal and Aurorus. Kangaskhan and Omastar are examples of wallbreakers and sweepers that appreciate Qwilfish's Spikes. They are able to wallbreak easier and Qwilfish handles the Fighting type pokemon that bother them like Hitmonchan and Gurdurr. Specially bulky Pokemon like Hitmonchan handle special attackers like Guzzlord and Eelektross. Hitmonchan also possesses hazard removal in Rapid Spin, making sure the hazards Qwilfish has set up do not disappear like it would with Defog and makes sure Qwilfish doesn't take additional damage, giving it more longevity. Eelektross is also a nice partner for Qwilfish, that is able to handle fast Electric- and Psychic-type Pokemon like Raichu-Alola and Choice Scarf Mesprit. It can also pivot back into Qwilfish if they are swapped out and Qwilfish can continue to apply pressure by setting up hazards.

Moves
========

Waterfall is boosted in rain and has a 30% chance to flinch the opposing Pokemon. Liquidation is also an option for increased damage and a potential Defense drop. Poison Jab is Qwilfish's other STAB attack, which hits pokemon that resist Water, such as Tangela, Guzzlord and Lanturn for more damage. Explosion is Qwilfish's strongest move and can instantly break through any pokemon that are not in range of its dual-STAB attacks like Gastrodon. Explosion also offers momentum and allows one of Qwilfish's teammates to come in like Ludicolo no need to specify teammates, that's what TO is for.

Set Details
========

An Adamant nature is preferred over Jolly to maximise Qwilfish's wallbreaking power, especially when rain is active. Life Orb offers a consistent boost in damage but gives Qwilfish recoil damage after every attack. Waterium Z gives Qwilfish a one-time nuke, easily chunking opposing pokemon easily under rain and especially at +2 Attack and without the recoil Life Orb possesses.

Usage Tips
========

Qwilfish should be brought in ideally when rain is active on the field, as Swift Swim allows it to outspeed every unboosted mon in the tier and rain boosts its damage output. While Qwilfish to able to switch into weaker attacks like Hitmonchan and Gurdurr's Drain Punch, its otherwise poor bulk limits opportunities to switch in against other Pokemon. Swords Dance should only be used against more passive opposing pokemon like Clefairy and Audino, which cannot damage you reliably or against threats you force out, such as Golurk. Explosion should only be used to knock out specific team threats like Quagsire or to generate momentum by bringing in another teammate like Ludicolo. Using this move at the right time is a necessity, as Qwilfish is sacrificed. Qwilfish being one of the fastest Swift Swim pokemon in the tier benefits rain teams and bringing it in to revenge kill scarfers like Manectric or Scyther, which are able to outspeed partners like Ludicolo helps out the team.

Team Options
========

Rain setters such as Mesprit, Volbeat and Liepard are required in order for this set to function properly. Mesprit offers Stealth Rock, chipping foes and giving Qwilfish an easier time of sweeping alongside with a slow U-Turn, making sure Qwilfish gets in safely. Liepard and Volbeat also offer U-Turn support and both have access to Prankster, which ensures rain can be safely set up. Other rain sweepers, like Kabutops, Ludicolo and Omastar work well with Qwilfish since it is able to break opposing pokemon and that allows its teammates to have a better time cleaning as well. The latter two break through physical walls like Mesprit, which Qwilfish has trouble dealing with and Qwilfish handles Poliwrath and Tangela for Kabutops, which easily wall it. Pokemon that also deal with Choice Scarf Aurorus and Abomasnow are ideal, since they stop rain with their hail and outspeed Qwilfish. Scarf Ape is a good example, being able to threaten the two of them with Close Combat. In addition, Sandslash-Alola uses the hail the aforementioned pokemon start up against them and checks them with Iron Head. Assault Vest Crabominable is also notable for its ability to threaten them with super-effective STAB Fighting attacks and appreciates rain weakening Fire-type attacks.

Poison Jab is an option in the fourth slot of the utility set, giving Qwilfish an option to hit Water resistant pokemon better, such as Lanturn and hit Fairy-types like Silvally-Fairy and Clefairy. Poison Jab pressures the former to not use Defog. However, it is more beneficial for Qwilfish to run one of its utility moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond and sacrifice not hitting Fairy-types for crippling other foes. Also running Protect on the utility set enables Qwilfish to scout against Choice Scarf Primeape, which can proc its ability Defiant against Qwilfish and potentially do a lot of damage. Protect can also scout against Choice Scarf Mesprit and can lock itself into something like U-turn, due to the Mesprit anticipating a switch and in turn, Qwilfish is able to get off free damage or set up hazards.

Special Attackers: Special attackers such as Jynx, Raichu-Alola and Oricorio-E easily threaten out Qwilfish with their strong attacks, due to Qwilfish's low Special Defense stat. The aforementioned Pokemon are able to use Qwilfish as setup fodder.

Taunt Users: Faster Taunt users like Froslass and Persian-A prevent Qwilfish from setting up hazards and stop Qwilfish utilising its status moves like Thunder Wave and Destiny Bond. Froslass is able to set up its own Spikes and Persian-A pivots into something that checks Qwilfish.

Entry Hazard Removal: Hazard removers like Silvally-Fairy and Rotom-F shut down Qwilfish attempting to set up Spikes or Toxic Spikes. Both possess Thunderbolt to check Qwilfish but Silvally-Fairy has to careful around Poison Jab.

Physically Bulky Pokemon: rain sweeper Qwilfish struggles to break through bulkier pokemon like Quagsire and Gastrodon, which take Qwilfish's attacks quite well. Nevertheless, Explosion can catch these pokemon out and deal a good amount of damage.

I'm fine with the grammatical mistakes but please make the effort to capitalize "Pokemon" and write out Pokemon's names correctly in the future.

Qwilfish is one of the PU tier's top Spikes and Toxic Spikes setters thanks to its good physical bulk, solid defensive typing,(AC) and access to Intimidate, which lets it handle a good amount of the tier's physical attackers such as Gurdurr and Skuntank. These qualities separate it from its main competition in Froslass, which is unable to handle the aforementioned Pokemon's Dark attacks and the inability unable to remove Toxic Spikes. With an a multitude of support moves to choose from, like Taunt, Thunder Wave,(AC) and Destiny Bond, Qwilfish is able to add a great amount of utility to teams and succeeds at performing different functions apart from setting entry hazards. Qwilfish is also able to function as a fast rain sweeper in conjunction with Swords Dance, alongside with its near unresisted dual-STAB STAB combination and its ability to remove Toxic Spikes. However, Qwilfish lacks recovery,(AC) which means it's susceptible to getting chipped throughout the course of a game from opposing hazards and continuous continually switching into the pokemon Pokemon it needs to check like Hitmonchan and Gurdurr. Qwilfish also has a really poor Special Defense stat,(RC) and is at the mercy of special attackers like Mesprit, Raichu-A Alolan Raichu,(AC) and Guzzlord, which easily force it out.
