sorry for calling you Roaring Mid, you're actually pretty good

:sv/roaring_moon:
[SET]
name: Offensive Tailwind Setter
move 1: Breaking Swipe / Throat Chop
move 2: Acrobatics / Throat Chop
move 3: Tailwind
move 4: Protect
item: Booster Energy
ability: Protosynthesis
nature: Jolly
evs: 36 HP / 220 Atk / 252 Spe
tera type: Flying

[SET COMMENTS]
  • Roaring Moon has grown into the role of DOU's premier offensive Tailwind setter, using its blazing Speed to provide both damage and team support.
  • Booster Energy lets Roaring Moon outspeed every other Pokemon in the format besides Booster Energy Iron Bundle. This ensures Roaring Moon is able to set Tailwind before being KOed and may even allow its partner to KO opposing threats instead.
  • Breaking Swipe offers survivability for Roaring Moon and its partner as well as chip damage that can break the Focus Sash of Pokemon such as Chien-Pao and Iron Bundle.
  • Acrobatics is immediately activated when Booster Energy is consumed and offers strong damage, nearly matching Roaring Moon's best STAB options, Throat Chop and Dragon Claw. With Tera Flying, it becomes Roaring Moon's best damage-dealing option, threatening massive damage on Pokemon such as Amoonguss and Great Tusk.
  • Throat Chop can be used over either Breaking Swipe or Acrobatics as a consistent STAB option that hits Indeedee-F and Armarouge for super effective damage.
  • Roaring Moon's defenses are decent, but both Dragon / Dark and Flying have notable weaknesses, especially to opposing Ice-types like Iron Bundle and Chien-Pao; Protect gives Roaring Moon the opportunity to avoid these attacks while its partner removes such threats. Protect can also be used to stall out field effects like weather, Trick Room, and an opponent's Tailwind.
  • The listed EVs will boost Roaring Moon's Speed with Booster Energy. If an Attack boost is desired instead, 32 HP EVs can be moved into Attack.
  • If being used on sun teams, Life Orb is preferred as the item. Sun will activate Protosynthesis without consuming Booster Energy, keeping Acrobatics at a measly 55 Base Power. Keep this in mind while facing sun teams as well.
  • Taunt is an option to prevent opposing forms of speed control such as Tailwind and Trick Room.

Here's what I think the set should be, with the usage from DPL to back it up below. Dragon Claw is stinky, Breaking Swipe offers something different in terms of spread option and Attack reduction is nice. All possible combos of the three main attacks are used, but Breaking Swipe and Acrobatics together is the most common. Now for Tera, obviously with Acrobatics then Flying is a given, but without Acrobatics (which is a thing) you should use something else so there should be a slash. Other Teras are rarely clicked on Roaring Moon in practice so I don't have a lot of data on what other people use but I've seen Poison and Ghost, Ghost seems probably best to me, Fighting immunity, Fake Out/Extreme Speed immunity, weaknesses are covered by base typing.

  • "Booster Energy lets Roaring Moon outspeed almost every single other Pokemon in the format" - name the exception here (Booster Energy Iron Bundle). Also the part of being able to set Tailwind "without being knocked out" is wrong, it can still be knocked out as it sets Tailwind, just not before it uses it, so change that.
  • The way you compare Acrobatics to Throat Chop is a little weird, for all three attacks I'd just individually explain what they do then see how that looks. For Acrobatics turn what you said into Tera Flying Acrobatics being Roaring Moon's strongest offensive option.
  • The mentioning of weaknesses for Protect feels a bit clunky, I'd try to condense that point.
  • Instead of saying "more damage" explicitly say an Attack boost since it's a little unclear if you don't already understand.
  • Mention the possibility of more offensive Life Orb sets with sun as well with that point, and add Taunt also as a 'other option' as well.
Tag once implemented so I can check over.

Circumstances(tm) have left me without enough time to finish implementing QC checks before Home, so I’m giving qsns and the rest of the team permission to take over this analysis and Walking Wake

Honestly this is more or less exactly what I want from this, excellent job. It hits all the important parts about Moon in a more or less concise way so I don't have any feasible changes.
