[OVERVIEW]

Skuntank stands out as one of the most versatile Pokemon in PU, being able to serve as a revenge killer and Pursuit trapper while also possessing strong utility options such as Defog and Taunt; these traits, alongside having multiple viable sets, make it very easy to fit onto most teams. Skuntank's fantastic typing makes it one of the best Pursuit trappers and most reliable checks to various Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokemon such as Bronzor, non-Barrier Musharna, and Jellicent while its ability to run multiple viable sets makes it difficult to predict at Team Preview and allows it to easily fit a team's needs; Choice Band sets can trade some reliability due to Choice locking for more reliably Pursuit trapping Jellicent and Metang and revenge killing Pokemon such as Simisear and Stoutland at higher HP, while Choice Scarf sets can instead let Skuntank more reliably check faster Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Oricorio-E, and Simisear. Furthermore, Skuntank can choose to run specially attacking sets that help threaten switch-ins such as Mudsdale and Ferroseed more effectively and break through walls such as Torterra and Audino with moves like Acid Spray and Taunt. Skuntank's ability Aftermath also allows it to support its teammates by trading itself to chip physical attackers that use contact moves such as Primeape, Stoutland, Crabominable, and Dodrio, especially if holding a Rocky Helmet, letting it provide valuable support and momentum even when it is no longer useful. Skuntank is, however, held back by its overall average stats, facing competition from generally stronger Pursuit trappers such as Stoutland and Absol and struggling to switch repeatedly into Pokemon it checks such as Haunter and Musharna. Furthermore, its average attacking stats make it unreliable at revenge killing higher HP targets and cause it to struggle greatly against common physical walls such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Gurdurr. It also faces competition as a revenge killer from Kangaskhan due to the latter's double priority, stronger STAB move in Double-Edge, and better coverage in Earthquake. Skuntank is also held back as a Defogger by its poor matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra and its lack of reliable recovery, meaning it can struggle to support teams that are particularly vulnerable to Stealth Rock compared to other options such as Rotom-F, Swanna, and Lurantis that have better matchups versus the aforementioned setters and reliable recovery for the latter two.

Moves
========

Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark-weak Pokemon such as Haunter and Bronzor, as well as Cryogonal and weakened Jellicent. Sucker Punch allows Skuntank to revenge kill faster threats such as Alolan Raichu, as well as Dodrio and Ludicolo after chip damage. If another Pokemon on Skuntank's team has Defog or Rapid Spin, Taunt can be used to prevent Pokemon such as Regirock and Ferroseed from setting up Stealth Rock and foes such as Victreebel and non-Scald Jellicent from freely healing against or statusing it. Toxic is an option to help Skuntank punish switch-ins such as Regirock, Mudsdale, and Torterra, but it lacks the utility and team support that Defog and Taunt otherwise provide.

Set Details
========

Aftermath allows Skuntank to punish Pokemon such as Primeape and Dodrio for KOing it with a contact move and can be used in conjunction with Sucker Punch to more reliably revenge kill such Pokemon by increasing the potential damage. Rocky Helmet allows Skuntank to punish contact moves such as Kangaskhan's Fake Out and Primeape's U-turn, and it pairs well with Aftermath by removing a considerable amount of HP from such Pokemon when Skuntank is KOed. Black Sludge is an alternative that offers Skuntank a passive form of recovery, letting it more reliably use Defog and Pursuit trap targets. Black Glasses is another alternative that increases the power of Skuntank's Pursuit and Sucker Punch, allowing it to revenge kill Pokemon such as Simisear from higher HP and pressure Bronzor and Musharna more.

Usage Tips
========

Skuntank can make use of Sucker Punch to revenge kill weakened, faster threats such as Ludicolo under rain, Dodrio, and Simisear or try to Pursuit trap them when they switch out under the threat of Sucker Punch. Skuntank should watch out when using Sucker Punch against Oricorio-G, Simisear, and Alolan Raichu, however, if it is not yet known whether they are running Substitute. In matchups where Skuntank is necessary to Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Haunter and Future Sight Musharna, it should try to preserve its HP as much as possible to ensure it has enough HP to survive a hit from such Pokemon if they stay in. If Skuntank's running Rocky Helmet and low on HP or no longer useful in a match, it can be brought in on physical attackers such as Dodrio, Stoutland, Gurdurr, and Crabominable to deal a considerable amount of recoil to the foe through the combination of Aftermath and Rocky Helmet damage and offer a safe switch in to a teammate, although Skuntank should only attempt this versus Gurdurr if the former is at very low HP due to Drain Punch. If running Defog, since Skuntank does not have a good matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra, it should primarily attempt to remove entry hazards on Pokemon that it can force out or is not threatened by such as Musharna, Clefairy, Sableye, and Cryogonal. If running Taunt, Skuntank can more readily Pursuit trap targets such as Victreebel and Jellicent for its teammates by preventing Victreebel from staying in and using Strength Sap and stopping Jellicent from using Recover or Will-O-Wisp; however, Skuntank will need to be brought in safely if it does not want to risk being burned, and it must watch out for Scald variants of Jellicent.

Team Options
========

Water- and Grass-types such as Jellicent and Victreebel can help threaten Mudsdale and Regirock, which can both set Stealth Rock against and wall Skuntank. Victreebel can also help deal with Gurdurr and appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal and Musharna. Torterra can also help threaten Mudsdale and Regirock while being able to provide Stealth Rock support or a potential wincon with Rock Polish, and it also appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping the aforementioned targets. Teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal can help check Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G, with Regirock also helping to check Kangaskhan and providing Stealth Rock support and Cryogonal helping Skuntank check Victreebel and Jellicent while allowing it to run Taunt or Toxic instead of Defog. Fighting-type Pokemon such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank being able to Pursuit trap Future Sight Musharna and, if running Taunt, Victreebel. In return, they are able to pressure Regirock and Alolan Sandslash, while Primeape can provide Skuntank with free opportunities to Pursuit trap targets such as Jellicent through U-turn. Pokemon walled by Bronzor, such as Aurorus, Alolan Sandslash, Musharna, and Kangaskhan, appreciate Skuntank's Pursuit trapping. Aurorus can also help pressure Mudsdale and appreciates Skuntank's support in removing or preventing Stealth Rock from setters such as Bronzor and Regirock, while Musharna can offer Future Sight support to help pressure switch-ins such as Mudsdale and Regirock and check Gurdurr.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark-weak Pokemon such as Musharna, Bronzor, Jellicent, and Haunter and weakened, slower Pokemon such as Stoutland, Victreebel, and Lanturn. Crunch offers Skuntank a reliable Dark-type STAB move, 2HKOing physically defensive sets of both Pokemon, although Skuntank should watch out for Earthquake from Metang.

Set Details
========

Choice Band provides Skuntank with greatly increased damage potential on its moves, allowing it to be a more potent Pursuit trapper and revenge killer. It also allows Skuntank to 2HKO Calm Mind Musharna with Crunch and OHKO Abomasnow with Poison Jab. Maximum Speed with a Jolly nature is preferred to allow Skuntank to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Jolly Absol, notably letting Skuntank revenge kill the latter after Stealth Rock damage. An Adamant nature can be run instead for better damage output, allowing Skuntank to better punish switch-ins such as Mudsdale and more reliably Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Jellicent and Metang while guaranteeing that Skuntank can OHKO Silvally-Fairy with Poison Jab.

Usage Tips
========

Thanks to the increased damage output provided by Choice Band and threat of Choice Band-boosted Crunch, Skuntank is able to more reliably Pursuit trap threats such as Metang, Jellicent, and Victreebel that it would struggle with otherwise. Skuntank should, however, avoid directly switching into the former two and only switch into the latter's STAB moves, as it can be heavily punished by Metang's Earthquake, Jellicent's Will-O-Wisp, and Victreebel's Strength Sap. In general, Choice Band Skuntank should be very careful about locking into specific moves, especially when Pokemon that can punish them are still present. For instance, locking into Sucker Punch allows Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Omastar, and Musharna to set up for free and is especially dangerous if Substitute users such as Combusken and Alolan Raichu are present. Locking into Pursuit can also offer Pokemon such as Carracosta and Oricorio-E free setup opportunities while giving powerful wallbreakers such as Stoutland and Drampa free turns. While not as dangerous as the previous two, locking into Poison Jab can instead offer free turns to Steel-types such as Aggron, Alolan Sandslash, and Ferroseed, the latter of which can take advantage of any move Skuntank locks into.

Team Options
========

Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Gurdurr are capable of consistently walling Choice Band Skuntank. Teammates such as Victreebel, Jellicent, and Simisear can help break these Pokemon; in return, Victreebel appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal, Musharna, and Oricorio-G, while Choice Specs Simisear appreciates Jellicent being Pursuit trapped. Pivots such as Lanturn and Eelektross are able to bring Skuntank in on Pokemon such as Victreebel, Cryogonal, and Musharna that it can Pursuit trap. Eelektross can also help pressure Mudsdale and Regirock, while Assault Vest Lanturn can help check Omastar and non-Grassium Z Simisear, which can set up on Skuntank locked into Pursuit or Sucker Punch. Teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal can check Pokemon such as Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G that may attempt to set up on Skuntank after locking into an unfavorable move. Lycanroc is a more offensive option that can also help revenge kill these Pokemon as well as Turtonator and Simisear that attempt to set up on Skuntank, although it will need some chip damage on Turtonator. Musharna pairs excellently with Choice Band Skuntank, as Skuntank is able to Pursuit trap problematic Pokemon such as Bronzor, Haunter, and Metang, while Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help punish switch-ins to Skuntank such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Regirock and help check Gurdurr. Teammates such as Alolan Sandslash and Primeape appreciate Skuntank's ability to Pursuit trap Jellicent, enabling Alolan Sandslash to more easily remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin or break through the opposing team with Swords Dance. Primeape in particular invites Jellicent in and can use U-turn against it, bringing Skuntank in safely without risk of being burned. Teammates such as Aurorus, Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy, and Kangaskhan appreciate Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor and Metang, enabling the former two to break enemy teams more easily. Silvally-Fairy in particular is able to bring Skuntank in on these Pokemon through U-turn.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Pursuit
move 2: Poison Jab
move 3: Crunch
move 4: Defog / Punishment
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Aftermath
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Punishment is an alternative option to Defog that allows Skuntank to more easily beat setup sweepers such as Oricorio-E, Musharna, Turtonator, and Simisear. Memento is another option that allows Skuntank to sacrifice itself to offer a setup opportunity to one of its teammates late-game while providing free momentum; however, it is not as reliable when Regirock or Carbink are present due to Clear Body blocking the stat drops. Toxic can instead be run to cripple switch-ins such as Mudsdale and Regirock but is more situational, especially in matchups against Pokemon such as Qwilfish, and can be dangerous to lock into if predicted.

Set Details
========

While a Jolly nature is usually preferred for outspeeding +2 Omastar, an Adamant nature can instead be run to allow Skuntank to do more damage, notably guaranteeing that Skuntank KOes offensive Oricorio-G from full HP and bulky Oricorio-G after Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========

Choice Scarf Skuntank should be careful about what move it locks itself into, as locking into Pursuit could provide free opportunities for wallbreakers such as Drampa, Aurorus, and Crabominable or setup sweepers such as Carracosta and Oricorio-E; therefore, you should carefully consider this when using Pursuit. Locking into Defog is a very risky, last-resort option that leaves Skuntank wide open, and it should only be done when absolutely necessary. Thanks to the increased Speed from its Choice Scarf, Skuntank can be used to Pursuit trap faster, Dark-weak Pokemon such as Alolan Raichu and Jynx that could otherwise KO Skuntank or put it to sleep first, as well as weakened, fast threats such as Simisear, Lycanroc, Oricorio-E, and Swanna. Skuntank should be wary about attempting this versus the latter two Pokemon if it has not yet revealed that it is a Choice Scarf set, as they may attempt to heal with Roost predicting a Sucker Punch. If running Punishment, Skuntank can aim to use it versus Pokemon such as Carracosta, Calm Mind Oricorio-E, and Nasty Plot Simisear if they are already worn down; however, Skuntank should be careful not to reveal that it is a Choice Scarf variant or that it is running Punishment if attempting to do this to prevent the opponent swapping out and using Skuntank for free turns due to Punishment's low natural Base power.

Team Options
========

Pivots such as Silvally-Fairy, Lanturn, and Rotom-F can help Skuntank perform its roles more reliably despite its average defensive stats. Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy can help to put pressure on the physically defensive Pokemon Skuntank struggles with such as Mudsdale and Gurdurr while being able to pivot Skuntank in on Bronzor with U-turn so that it can be Pursuit trapped, allowing Silvally-Fairy to more reliably clean late-game. Lanturn can instead offer Heal Bell support, allowing Skuntank to attempt to Pursuit trap Jellicent with less fear of being burned, and if Skuntank is running Punishment, Lanturn can pivot into Calm Mind Oricorio-E and safely bring Skuntank in against it with Volt Switch. Rotom-F can help break Mudsdale and Torterra and offer Defog support so Skuntank can run a different move such as Punishment or Memento. Gurdurr is able to switch into Skuntank fairly safely and use it as setup fodder, so reliable checks such as Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G are helpful teammates. While it can't deal with Gurdurr well, Jellicent is another option that can effectively handle Choice Scarf Primeape and isn't weak to Stealth Rock, which is especially useful due to Choice Scarf Primeape outspeeding Skuntank. In return, these Pokemon appreciate Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal and, in non-Taunt Oricorio-E's case, Bronzor. Teammates such as Ludicolo and Abomasnow can help pressure Torterra, Mudsdale, and Regirock, helping create situations where Skuntank can potentially clean up late-game. Ludicolo can also offer an additional late-game sweeper and appreciates Memento support if Skuntank is running it, while Abomasnow appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor and can bluff a Choice Scarf set to help Skuntank surprise foes such as Oricorio-G. Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, Primeape, and Combusken appreciate Skuntank's support in Pursuit trapping Pokemon such as Musharna and Alolan Raichu. Gurdurr can in return help check Regirock and Mudsdale and appreciates Skuntank's support against Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G, while Combusken can help patch up Skuntank's below-average Speed for a Choice Scarf user with Speed Boost and help break Pokemon such as Regirock and Torterra with a special attacking set. Alternatively, Swords Dance Combusken sets appreciate Memento support from Skuntank to more reliably set up late-game. Setup sweepers such as Carracosta, Omastar, and Rock Polish Torterra can help break through problematic Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Regirock, with Torterra in particular highly appreciating Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor. All three can also take advantage of Memento support to set up more easily and become harder to revenge kill.

[SET]
name: Special Attacker
move 1: Defog
move 2: Dark Pulse
move 3: Acid Spray / Sludge Bomb
move 4: Taunt / Fire Blast
item: Darkinium Z / Black Sludge
ability: Aftermath
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Acid Spray allows Skuntank to pressure usual switch-ins to other Skuntank sets such as Mudsdale, Torterra, Qwilfish, and Gurdurr, putting the former two into range of Skuntank's Z-Move. Sludge Bomb is an alternative that lets Skuntank more immediately threaten Silvally-Fairy and Gurdurr and attempt to poison switch-ins such as Regirock that Acid Spray cannot affect due to Clear Body. Taunt allows Skuntank to prevent entry hazard setters such as Regirock and Carbink, which otherwise wall it, from setting up Stealth Rock and, in conjunction with Acid Spray, allows Skuntank to break through Audino. Fire Blast is an alternative that lets Skuntank OHKO Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash. It also allows Skuntank to do more damage to Torterra without using its Z-Move and lets it offensively check Victreebel.

Set Details
========

Darkinium Z provides Skuntank with a powerful nuke that it can take advantage of in combination with Acid Spray to KO Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Torterra. Black Sludge is an alternative if another member of Skuntank's team has a Z-Crystal, providing it with a passive form of recovery and allowing it to use Defog more reliably. Maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature allows Skuntank to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Jolly Absol; however, a Modest nature can be run for higher damage output, allowing Skuntank to do more chip damage to Pokemon such as Gurdurr and Regirock on the switch in.

Usage Tips
========

Skuntank can aim to use Acid Spray early- and mid-game on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Victreebel and Jellicent to punish switch-ins such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Eelektross. If Regirock or Carbink is present, however, Skuntank should only ever do this once they have been crippled or removed due to Clear Body preventing Special Defense drops and should instead either use Taunt on the switch or double switch to a Pokemon that can pressure them. Skuntank should be careful about when it uses its Z-Move, as this is usually a very obvious move after Skuntank has used Acid Spray versus a Pokemon such as Mudsdale, and it may be useless if the opponent switches out. If another Pokemon such as Cryogonal or Lanturn is present that may attempt to switch into the Z-Move, Skuntank should ideally wait until they are removed or in range of the Z-Move and focus more on using Dark Pulse when predicting Mudsdale to switch in. Skuntank should prioritize using Defog on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Jellicent, Musharna, and Bronzor. If Skuntank is running Taunt, it can more freely use Defog while Regirock is still healthy and use Taunt on it after it switches into Skuntank, although it must watch out for Regirock running Earthquake. Skuntank should, however, prioritize attacking Mudsdale if expecting it to come in because Skuntank can't prevent it from setting Stealth Rock back up. If running Taunt, Skuntank can aim to use it when predicting a Pokemon such as Regirock or Carbink to switch in, preventing them setting up Stealth Rock. Skuntank can also aim to use it versus sweepers such as Turtonator, Omastar, and Carracosta that attempt to set up on Skuntank. If running Fire Blast, be careful not to reveal that Skuntank is running a special set early in the match if teammates that appreciate Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash being removed are present, as the opponent will likely anticipate that you are running Fire Blast after this.

Team Options
========

Pokemon such as Lycanroc and Stoutland appreciate Skuntank weakening Mudsdale and Gurdurr, allowing them to more easily break the enemy team. Lycanroc in particular can help check problematic special walls such as Articuno and Cryogonal as well as Calm Mind Oricorio-E, which can set up on Skuntank, while Skuntank benefits from Stoutland wearing down a shared check in Regirock, allowing it to more easily keep entry hazards off the field. Pokemon such as Golurk, Victreebel, and Eelektross that can pressure Regirock and Carbink make for good teammates; Golurk can set Stealth Rock; Victreebel can pressure Gurdurr and Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move as well as help wear down Eelektross and check Assault Vest Hitmonchan; and Eelektross can check Cryogonal with Drain Punch, wear down Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move, and bring Skuntank in on Pokemon such as Musharna and Audino that it can help break. Teammates such as Regirock and Metang can help to consistently check Silvally-Fairy, making up for Skuntank's inability to reliably pressure it when running Acid Spray. They can also help pressure special walls such as Articuno and Cryogonal and offer Stealth Rock support; in return, they appreciate Skuntank pressuring Jellicent, Victreebel, and Sableye. Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G can help check Gurdurr and appreciate Skuntank being able to remove specially defensive Alolan Sandslash with Fire Blast. Taunt Skuntank sets can instead help pressure Audino and appreciate their help dealing with Victreebel. Skuntank also enjoys Oricorio-E being able to poison its checks such as Regirock, Lanturn, and Eelektross with Toxic. Fighting-types such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank taking on Jellicent, Musharna, and Victreebel. Primeape and Skuntank can wear down down shared checks such as Mudsdale and Gurdurr, while Primeape and Gurdurr can help pressure Regirock and Carbink and specially defensive Pokemon such as Lanturn and Eelektross. If Skuntank is running Fire Blast, Pokemon such as Kangaskhan, Aurorus, and Musharna enjoy its ability to lure in and KO Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash, especially specially defensive variants of the latter. In return, Aurorus is able to help pressure Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra, Kangaskhan can help pressure Pokemon such as Cryogonal and Calm Mind Oricorio-E, and Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help chip switch-ins to Skuntank such as Regirock and Carbink and provide an answer to specially defensive Pokemon that Skuntank struggles with such as Assault Vest Hitmonchan and Eelektross.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Darkinium Z is an option on physical Skuntank that allows it to use a powerful Dark-type STAB attack versus Pokemon that could otherwise set up on it, such as Calm Mind Musharna, and gives it a single-use nuke for threats such as Aurorus and Stoutland. This comes at the cost of a teammate being able to use a Z-Move, however, and is hard to justify over more useful items such as Rocky Helmet and Black Sludge. Skuntank can also opt to run Memento with Darkinium Z, letting it fully heal a teammate when it is no longer useful in a match and provide free setup opportunities. Iapapa Berry is also an option on Skuntank to provide more longevity, but the healing provided by Black Sludge is more consistent due to the chance that Skuntank will not be able to activate its Iapapa Berry. Crunch is an option on physical Skuntank over Defog or Taunt to allow it to more directly threaten Pokemon such as Metang and Musharna but comes at the cost of a utility move or the ability to revenge kill faster Pokemon such as Dodrio and Simisear. Skuntank can also opt to run Taunt and Toxic together on its physical set, allowing it to spread poison for teammates such as Substitute + Protect Combusken and Calm Mind Musharna while preventing Pokemon such as Lanturn and Audino from using Heal Bell; however, this comes at the cost of one of Skuntank's attacking moves. Skuntank can choose to run a set with both Substitute and Toxic, allowing it to punish Pokemon such as Jellicent and Victreebel for switching out or using Strength Sap and allowing it to wear down Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Regirock with Toxic poison. This, however, comes at the cost of preventing Skuntank from running a utility move such as Taunt or Defog and one of its attacking moves. Fire Blast is an option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to threaten Alolan Sandslash and Ferroseed, although Skuntank cannot outspeed offensive Alolan Sandslash sets in hail, and Fire Blast is heavily prediction reliant and very weak against targets not 4x weak to Fire. Explosion is another option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to generate momentum and either heavily chip defensive Pokemon such as Mudsdale for a setup sweeper or remove an offensive threat such as Oricorio-E or Rotom-F in the process. Memento's ability to offer easier setup opportunities for sweepers such as Omastar is, however, generally more useful late-game.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-types**: Mudsdale and Torterra are capable of consistently switching into Skuntank's attacks due to their good bulk, can OHKO Skuntank in return with Earthquake, and can both consistently set up Stealth Rock versus teams where Skuntank is running Defog. They must, however, both watch out versus special Skuntank, which can KO them if they switch in on Acid Spray. More niche Ground-type options such as Gastrodon and Golurk can also threaten Skuntank, although Golurk cannot switch into Skuntank.

**Defensive Pokemon**: Physically defensive Pokemon such as Regirock, Gurdurr, and Ferroseed are capable of consistently switching into and walling physical Skuntank sets, using it as a free opportunity to set entry hazards or, in Gurdurr's case, set up with Bulk Up, although Ferroseed must watch out for Taunt. Conversely, specially defensive Pokemon such as Cryogonal, offensive Articuno, and Assault Vest Eelektross are capable of checking specially offensive Skuntank sets, although the latter two must watch out for Skuntank's Z-Move KOing them after switching into Acid Spray, and Cryogonal must watch out for Fire Blast after Acid Spray.

**Faster Pokemon**: Due to Skuntank's average Speed stat, it is outsped and revenge killed by faster Pokemon such as Swanna, Simisear, and Rotom-F due to Sucker Punch's inability to KO them without considerable chip damage and the risk of Will-O-Wisp from Rotom-F. Skuntank also suffers from being slower than Pokemon such as Oricorio-G and Alolan Raichu that it must rely on Sucker Punch to deal with, allowing them to potentially outplay this with moves such as Roost and Substitute, which is an especially noticeable issue for Choice Band variants. While Choice Scarf sets are capable of outspeeding such Pokemon, as well as other Pokemon it can attempt to revenge kill such as Silvally-Fairy, they also suffer from being slower than common Choice Scarf users such as Primeape and Dodrio as well as Alolan Sandslash under hail.

**Setup Sweepers**: Due to Skuntank's mediocre damage output, setup sweepers such as Carracosta, Turtonator, and Gurdurr can take advantage of it for free setup opportunities, although they must watch out for sets running Taunt. Furthermore, Skuntank's reliance on Sucker Punch to revenge kill faster threats can allow Substitute users such as Alolan Raichu and Jynx to outplay it and potentially use it for free setup opportunities. Additionally, Choice item sets can be scouted with such moves and taken advantage by Pokemon such as Oricorio-E, Oricorio-G, and Torterra for free setup if Skuntank locks into, or is already locked into, Sucker Punch or Pursuit. Many of these Pokemon, however, must watch out for Choice Scarf sets running Punishment, which can revenge kill them after they set up.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Skuntank stands out as one of the most versatile Pokemon in PU, being able to serve as a revenge killer and Pursuit trapper, while posessing strong utility options such as Defog and Taunt, all of which alongside multiple viable sets make it very easy to fit into most teams due to the utility and role compression it offers.
  • Skuntank's typing makes it one of the most reliable checks to various Psychic- and Ghost- type Pokemon such as Musharna, Bronzor, and Haunter in the tier, and depending on the Skuntank set also allows it to check other threats such as Jellicent, and Oricorio-G. Access to Pursuit therefore makes Skuntank an incredible teammate for the various Pokemon in PU walled by them. not sure a massive list is really what's gonna grab someone in this intro
  • Skuntank's ability to run multiple viable sets makes it difficult to predict at team preview, and allows it to easily fit a teams needs. Physical utility sets allow Skuntank to serve as a reliable Pursuit trapper, revenge killer, and entry hazard remover, while Choiced sets trade some of this reliability for the ability to either Pursuit trap Jellicent and Metang, and more reliably revenge kill higher HP targets, or the ability to more reliably check faster Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Oricorio-E, and Simisear. Furthermore, Skuntank's decent special movepool also allows it to viably run a special attacking set to help threaten switch ins such as Mudsdale far more, and help break through defensive walls such as Mudsdale, Torterra, Ferroseed, and Audino through Acid Spray, and access to Fire Blast or Taunt. there's also a decent bit of repetition, the first 3 bullets talk about skunk having pursuit and revenge killing, although this could definitely just get better in writeup
  • Skuntank's ability Aftermath further allows it to support its teammates, by allowing it to trade itself to greatly chip physical attackers with contact moves such as Primeape, Stoutland, Crabominable, and Dodrio, and if holding a Rocky Helmet allows it to remove considerable amounts of HP when being sacrificed, allowing Skuntank to provide valuable support and momentum even when it is no longer useful during a match.
  • Skuntank is however held back by its overall average stats, making it less reliable at revenge killing higher HP targets compared to other options such as Absol and Kangaskhan, and also facing competition from other stronger Pursuit trappers such as Stoutland and Absol. Because of this, Skuntank also greatly struggles against very common physical walls such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Gurdurr, and Choice Band sets especially suffer due to this compared to other stronger physical attackers such as Stoutland, Crabominable and Dodrio.
  • Skuntank as a Defogger is also held back by its poor matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra, and while it can find multiple opportunities during a match to remove entry hazards versus Pokemon such as Musharna and Victreebel, it is forced to abandon attempting to Pursuit trap or revenge kill such targets when attempting to do this, and due to its lack of reliable recovery, it can struggle to support teams that are particularly vulnerable to Stealth Rock compared to other options such as Rotom-Frost, Swanna, and Lurantis that have better matchups versus the afforementioned setters, and reliable recovery for the latter two.

  • Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark weak Pokemon such as Musharna, Haunter, and Bronzor, as well as Cryogonal and weakened Jellicent, and other assorted Pokemon that may attempt to directly switch into an answer to Skuntank to avoid taking crucial damage, such as Eelektross and Lanturn.
  • Sucker Punch allows Skuntank to revenge kill faster threats such as Dodrio, Ludicolo, and Alolan Raichu, however it will usually need considerable chip damage first against the former two.
  • Defog allows Skuntank to support its teammates by removing entry hazards, pairing well with its ability to absorb potential Toxic Spikes from Qwilfish.
  • Taunt is an alternative choice if another Pokemon on Skuntank's team has Defog or Rapid Spin, allowing it to prevent Pokemon such as Regirock, Ferroseed, and Bronzor setting up Stealth Rock, and prevent foes such as Victreebel, Carbink, Audino, and Jellicent from freely healing against or statusing Skuntank. again with lots of very big example lists. examples are good but im on the second section and it already feels like massive padding to an already big analysis
  • Toxic is an option to help Skuntank punish switch ins such as Regirock, Mudsdale, and Torterra, but lacks the utility and team support that Defog and Taunt otherwise provide.

Set Details
========

  • Aftermath is the ability of choice, allowing Skuntank to punish Pokemon such as Primeape for KOing it with a contact move, and can be used in conjunction with Sucker Punch to more reliably revenge kill such Pokemon by increasing the potential damage.
  • Rocky Helmet allows Skuntank to punish contact moves such as Kangaskhan's Fake Out and Primeape's U-turn.
  • Black Sludge is an alternative that offers Skuntank a passive form of recovery, allowing it to more reliably use Defog and Pursuit trap targets.
  • Black Glasses is another alternative that increases the power of Skuntank's Pursuit and Sucker Punch, allowing it to revenge kill Pokemon such as Simisear and Omastar from higher HP and KO Bronzor and Calm Mind Musharna after two Pursuit traps.

Usage Tips
========

  • Skuntank can make use of Sucker Punch to revenge kill weakened faster threats such as Ludicolo, Dodrio, and Omastar, or try and Pursuit trap them when switching out under the threat of Sucker Punch. Skuntank should watch out when using Sucker Punch against Oricorio-G and Alolan Raichu however, if it is not yet known whether they are running Substitute.
  • In matchups where Skuntank is necessary to Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Haunter and Musharna, Skuntank should try and preserve its HP as much as possible, to ensure that it has enough HP to survive a hit from such Pokemon if they stay in.
  • If running Rocky Helmet, when low on HP or no longer useful in a match, Skuntank can be brought in on physical attackers such as Dodrio, Primeape, Stoutland, or Crabominable in order to deal a considerable amount of recoil to the opponent through the combination of Aftermath and Rocky Helmet damage, and offer a safe switch in to a teammate. this is another drawback of massive example lists, these are like all the same mons u mentioned earlier that Skuntank can chip because u went through all the relevant ones already
  • If running Defog, as Skuntank does not have a good matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra, it should primarily attempt to remove entry hazards on Pokemon that it can force out or is not threatened by such as Musharna, Clefairy, Sableye, Cryogonal, and Victreebel.
  • If running Taunt, Skuntank can more readily Pursuit trap targets such as Victreebel and Jellicent for its teammates, by preventing Victreebel from staying in and using Strength Sap, and preventing Jellicent from using Recover or Will-O-Wisp, however Skuntank will need to be brought in safely or by a double switch versus Jellicent if it does not want to risk being Burned. This also allows Skuntank to more easily Pursuit trap Bronzor, which can otherwise use Rest and wall Skuntank if it is able to survive the initial hit, and Musharna, which can make use of its good physical bulk and heal with Moonlight before switching out. the length of this analysis is also not helped by "taunt can be a surprise factor that helps trap some things like vic" being expanded out into a massive 5-line bullet point when, tbch, this is just massively padded. It's not strictly wrong and this could just get fixed in writeup, but I just don't see any need for this to be so long

Team Options
========

  • Skuntank is a great option for most teams, thanks to its ability to check and Pursuit trap Ghost- and Psychic-types such as Haunter and Musharna, its ability to act as a revenge killer via Sucker Punch, and its ability to either remove or prevent entry hazards via Defog or Taunt respectively. delete this bullet. sometimes a point like "this mon fits best/almost exclusively on hyper offense" makes sense to mark what kind of teams you want to run it on but just going "yeah skunk goes well on a lot of things because of all the stuff I talked about earlier" is 100% unnecessary
  • Pokemon what kind of Pokemon? Strong special attackers? Water- and Grass-types? such as Jellicent and Victreebel can help threaten Mudsdale and Regirock, which can both set Stealth Rock against and wall Skuntank. Victreebel can also help deal with Gurdurr, and appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Oricorio-G, Cryogonal and Musharna for it. Torterra is another option that can help threaten them, while being able to provide Stealth Rock support or a win condition with Rock Polish, and also appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping these targets.
  • Musharna is an excellent option to pair with Skuntank, being able to provide Future Sight support to aid against Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Regirock that can consistently switch in on Skuntank, and can help to check Gurdurr. In return, Musharna appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor for it, which can otherwise switch in on Future Sight consistently, and other targets that may attempt to switch out to prevent being hit by Future Sight, such as Victreebel and Oricorio-E. I don't like this bullet because you make the same point in the CB skunk TO where it's far more true. Like future sight isn't especially notably good with this set, it feels like you'd be better off folding mush into the "things what appreciate pursuiting bronzor" category
  • Despite being it being weak to Sucker Punch, Skuntank is rather unreliable at checking Oricorio-G, as it can safely roost on Skuntank, and attempt to set up with Calm Mind on Sucker Punch, while tanking a Sucker Punch from full and KOing Skuntank with a +1 Z-Hurricane. a great example of what unnecessary padding looks like. The overall point is ok but 2 full lines about how skunk doesn't check oricorio-G very well in team options is just massive fluff. I'm just belaboring this because 1. I think it'll help your writing a lot and 2. it's especially important for these 4 set behemoths Teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal can help Skuntank check Oricorio-G, while also providing an answer to Oricorio-E, while Regirock can offer Stealth Rock support, and Cryogonal can allow Skuntank to run Taunt instead of Defog and help Skunatnk type to check Victreebel and Jellicent. I also just don't think a whole TO for one mon that isn't a skunk check makes any kind of sense, when you build with skunk you never go "gosh I need to worry about a sensu check". id either delete this point or merge its ideas into something else or just change what its about in some other way
  • Fighting-type Pokemon such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank being able to Pursuit trap Musharna, and if running Taunt, Victreebel, for them. In return, they are able to pressure Regirock and Alolan Sandslash for Skuntank, while Primeape can provide Skuntank with free opportunities to Pursuit targets such as Musharna and Oricorio-G through U-turn.
  • Pokemon such as Choice Specs Aurorus, Swords Dance Alolan Sandslash, and Kangaskhan appreciate Skuntank's ability to Pursuit trap Bronzor for them again I think it's better to write this as something like "Pokemon walled by Bronzor such as xyz appreciate skunk's trapping". That way when you say "Pokemon such as" it's more clear what group of Pokemon you're talking about. Aurorus can also help to pressure Mudsdale for Skuntank, and apppreciates Skuntank's assistance in removing or preventing Stealth Rock from setters such as Bronzor and Regirock.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark weak Pokemon such as Musharna, Bronzor, Jellicent, and Haunter, and weakened slower Pokemon such as Stoutland, Victreebel, and Lanturn.
  • Crunch offers Skuntank a reliable Dark-type STAB move, allowing it to more reliably threaten targets such as Musharna and Metang at high HP that would not be bothered by Sucker Punch, 2HKOing physically defensive sets of both Pokemon.

Set Details
========

  • Choice Band provides Skuntank with greatly increased damage potential on its moves, allowing it to be a more potent Pursuit trapper and revenge killer. This in particular allows it to 2HKO Calm Mind Musharna with Crunch, and have a good chance to OHKO Victreebel with Crunch or Poison Jab after 2 rounds of Stealth Rock damage.
  • Maximum Speed with a Jolly Nature is preferred to allow Skuntank to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Jolly Absol, noteably allowing Skuntank to revenge kill the latter after Stealth Rock damage. An Adamant Nature can be ran instead for a better damage output, allowing Skuntank to punish switch ins such as Mudsdale more and to more reliably Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Jellicent and Metang.

Usage Tips
========

  • Thanks to the increased damage output provided by Choice Band, Skuntank is able to more reliably Pursuit trap threats such as Metang, Jellicent, and Victreebel that it would struggle with otherwise, due to the threat of a Choice Band boosted Crunch. Skuntank should however still be careful when attempting this and should not attempt to switch in versus the former two, due to the risk of an Earthquake or Will-O-Wisp if predicted.
  • Due to this increased damage, Skuntank is also able to better revenge kill faster threats such as Ludicolo and Choice Specs Simisear with Sucker Punch, although it is no longer able to safely revenge kill Pokemon such as Omastar, Carracosta, and Substitute Nasty Plot Simisear, which can bait out Sucker Punch and use Skuntank as setup fodder.
  • In general, Choice Band Skuntank should be very careful about locking into specific moves, especially when Pokemon that can punish them are still present. For instance, locking into Sucker Punch allows for free setup from Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Omastar, and Musharna, and is especially dangerous if Substitute users such as Combusken, Simisear, or Alolan Raichu are present. Locking into Pursuit can also offer Pokemon such as Carracosta and Oricorio-E free setup opportunities, while giving powerful wallbreakers such as Stoutland and Drampa free turns. While not as dangerous as the previous two, locking into Poison Jab can instead offer free turns to Steel-types such as Aggron, Alolan Sandslash, and Ferroseed, the latter of which can abuse any move Skuntank locks into.

Team Options
========

  • Choice Band Skuntank fits well on teams that appreciate a strong Psychic- and Ghost- check, revenge killer, and Pokemon capable of trapping walls such as Bronzor, Jellicent, and Musharna for its teammates. again this just adds nothing, it's literally just "teams that like the things skunk does will want to run skunk"
  • Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mudsale, Regirock, Ferroseed, and Gurdurr are capable of consistantly walling Choice Band Skuntank. Teammates such as Victreebel, Jellicent, and Simisear can help break these Pokemon for Skuntank, and in return Victreebel appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal and Oricorio-G, while Choice Scarf or Choice Specs Simisear sets appreciate Jellicent being Pursuit trapped. another drawback of big lists- sometimes you accidentally include something like ferroseed which cb skunk is actually real nice at pressuring
  • Pivots such as Lanturn and Eelektross are able to bring Skuntank in on Pokemon such as Victreebel, Cryogonal and Musharna that it can Pursuit trap. Eelektross can also help to pressure Mudsdale and Regirock for Skuntank, while Assault Vest Lanturn can help to check Omastar and non-Grassium Z Simisear, which can set up on Skuntank locked into Pursuit or Sucker Punch.
  • Teammates that can help to check Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G are incredibly useful, as these two Pokemon can easily abuse Skuntank being locked into Sucker Punch, and in Oricorio-E's case, Pursuit, to set up with Calm Mind or use Roost. Regirock is an option, which can offer Stealth Rock support and also help to check Kangaskhan, Cryogonal can help to check Aurorus, assist Skuntank versus Victreebel, and provide entry hazard removal, while Lycanroc provides a more offensive alternative, that appreciates Skuntank wearing down their mutual checks such as Regirock and Mudsdale, and can revenge kill other setup sweepers such as Turtonator and Simisear that attempt to set up on a choice locked Skuntank. again it's incredibly weird to have a way-too-long point about oricorio when that isn't especially worse for skunk to face than anything else. I like talking about defensive partners that let skunk more easily risk locking itself into pursuit/sucker and getting set up on, but framing explicitly around oricorio doesn't make sense
  • Musharna pairs excellently with Choice Band Skuntank, as Skuntank is able to Pursuit trap problematic Pokemon such as Bronzor, Haunter, and Metang for Musharna, while Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help punish switch ins to Skuntank such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Regirock, and help to check Gurdurr for Skuntank.
  • Teammates such as Alolan Sandslash and Primeape appreciate Skuntank's ability to Pursuit trap Jellicent, enabling Alolan Sandslash to more easily remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin or break through the opposing team with Swords Dance. Primeape in particular is able to invite Jellicent in and U-turn against it, bringing Skuntank in safely without risk of being Burned.
  • Teammates such as Choice Specs Aurorus, Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy, and Kangaskhan appreciate Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor and Metang for them, enabling the former two to break enemy teams more easily. Silvally-Fairy in particular is able to bring Skuntank in on these Pokemon through U-turn.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Punishment is an alternative option to Defog, that allows Skuntank to more easily beat set up sweepers such as Oricorio-E and Simisear, while allowing Skuntank to beat Barrier Musharna, and thanks to Choice Scarf, Omastar and Turtonator after they have used Shell Smash once.
  • Memento is another option that allows Skuntank to sacrifice itself to offer a setup opportunity to one of its teammates late game, while providing free momentum.
  • Toxic can instead be run to cripple switch ins such as Mudsdale and Regirock, but is more situational, especially in matchups against Pokemon such as Qwilfish, and can be dangerous to lock into if predicted.

Set Details
========

  • A Choice Scarf with a Jolly Nature allows Skuntank to outspeed Pokemon such as Dodrio, Alolan Raichu, Lycanroc, and +2 Speed Omastar, allowing it to more reliably revenge kill faster threats without needing to use Sucker Punch.
  • An Adamant Nature can instead be ran to allow Skuntank to do more damage at the cost of outspeeding +2 Omastar, notably guaranteeing that Skuntank KOs offensive Oricorio-G from full HP, and bulky Oricorio-G after Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========

  • Choice Scarf Skuntank should be very careful about what move it locks itself into, as locking into Pursuit could provide free opportunities for wallbreakers such as Drampa, Aurorus, and Crabominable, while locking into Sucker Punch can offer free setup opportunities for Pokemon such as Combusken, Oricorio-E, and Gurdurr.
  • Thanks to the increased Speed from its Choice Scarf, Skuntank can be used to Pursuit trap faster Dark weak Pokemon such as Alolan Raichu and Jynx that could otherwise KO or put Skuntank to sleep first, as well as weakened fast threats such as Simisear, Lycanroc, Oricorio-E, and Swanna. Skuntank should be careful when attempting this if it is still necessary to remove entry hazards or check Pokemon such as Haunter and Omastar, especially if Skuntank has not yet revealed that it is a Choice Scarf set, as the latter two Pokemon may attempt to Roost on a potential Sucker Punch.
  • If running Defog, Skuntank should be very careful about when it uses it, as locking into Defog will offer free turns to potential wallbreakers and set up sweepers, or allow for the opposing Stealth Rock setter to immediately set them back up unfazed. It is therefore advisable to only use Defog against Pokemon Skuntank isn't threatened by, such as Victreebel, or Pokemon it can force out such as Alolan Raichu, and only when necessary, as Skuntank will often benefit more from using Pursuit in the latter situation. again feels like 4 lines is very long for what's just "choice locking yourself into defog is a last resort risky option that leaves you wide open"
  • If running Punishment, should use it versus set up sweepers such as Omastar and Turtonator that have set up on a teammate, although it must be careful to not let them use Shell Smash twice, and you must be careful not to activate Weak Armor on Omastar with another teammate first. Skuntank can also aim to use Punishment versus Pokemon such as Calm Mind Oricorio-E, Nasty Plot Simisear, and Swords Dance Lycanroc if they are already chipped, however it should be careful not to reveal that it is Choice Scarf, or that it is running Punishment, if attempting to do this, in order to prevent the opponent swapping out and using Skuntank for free turns due to Punishment's low base power. I like the second part about how both scarf and punishment have good surprise factor but the whole earlier bit where you restate what punishment does and warn about weak armor is very unnecessary and removable
  • If running Memento, Skuntank should aim to use it when it is no longer useful in the match in order to provide safe set up opportunities for teammates, or to make use of the free momentum it provides to safely bring a win condition in. If Skuntank is likely to be able to clean during the late game it may be worth not using this move however.
  • If running Toxic, Skuntank can attempt to use it on predicted switch ins to cripple checks such as Mudsdale and Regirock. Skuntank should however be very careful about when it does this, especially after it has revealed the move, due to Skuntank being easily taken advantage of after locking into Toxic.

Team Options
========

  • Choice Scarf Skuntank is a good speed control option for teams that struggle with Pokemon such as Bronzor and Musharna. again this should get nuked
  • Pivots such as Silvally-Fairy, Lanturn, and Rotom-F can help Skuntank perform its roles more reliably despite its average defensive stats. Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy can help to put pressure on the physically defensive Pokemon Skuntank struggles with such as Mudsdale and Gurdurr, while being able to pivot Skuntank in on Bronzor with U-turn so that it can be Pursuit trapped, allowing Silvally-Fairy to more reliably clean late game. Lanturn can instead offer Heal Bell support, allowing Skuntank to more readily attempt to Pursuit trap Jellicent, and if Skuntank is running Punishment, Lanturn can pivot into Calm Mind Oricorio-E and safely bring Skuntank in against it with Volt Switch, while Rotom-F can help to break Mudsale and Torterra for Skuntank, and offer Defog support so that Skuntank can run a different move such as Punishment or Memento.
  • Gurdurr is able to switch into Skuntank fairly safely and use it as setup fodder, and therefore reliable checks such as Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G are helpful teammates for Skuntank. While it can't deal with Gurdurr well, Jellicent is another option that can deal well with Choice Scarf Primeape and isn't weak to Stealth Rock, which is especially useful due to Primeape outspeeding Skuntank as a Choice Scarf user. In return, these Pokemon appreciate Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal, and also Bronzor in Oricorio-E's case.
  • Pokemon such as Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G can readily take advantage of a choice locked Skuntank to find safe set up opportunities, making teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal that can help check them highly advisable. Regirock can also set Stealth Rock and help to check non-Fightinium Z Swords Dance Dodrio for Skuntank, while Cryogonal can offer entry hazard removal and assist Skuntank in dealing with high HP Victreebel. I still am just baffled by why oricorio is supposed to be the bane of Skuntank when this applies to plenty of other shit too
  • Teammates such as Life Orb Ludicolo and Abomasnow zero idea why life orb is specified here, non LO does same shit can help pressure Torterra, Mudsdale, and Regirock for Skuntank, helping to create situations where Skuntank can potentially clean up during the late game. Ludicolo can also offer an additional late-game win condition, and appreciates Memento support if Skuntank is running it, while Abomasnow appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor, and can bluff a Choice Scarf set at team preview in order to help Skuntank surprise foes such as Oricorio-G.
  • Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, Primeape, and Combusken appreciate Musharna's support in Pursuit trapping Pokemon such as Musharna and Alolan Raichu. Gurdurr can in return help to check Regirock and Mudsdale for Skuntank, and appreciates Skuntank's support against Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G, while Combusken can help patch up Skuntank's below average speed for a Choice Scarf user with Speed Boost help to break Pokemon such as Regirock, Gurdurr, and Torterra for Skuntank with a special attacking set, while Swords Dance Combusken sets appreciate Memento support from Skuntank in order to more reliably set up late-game.
  • If running Memento, late-game set up sweepers such as Carracosta, Omastar, and Rock Polish Torterra make for good partners that can take advantage of the easier set up opportunities and make themselves harder to revenge kill. Torterra especially appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor, while all three Pokemon can help to break through problematic Pokemon for Skuntank such as Mudsdale and Regirock during the early-game if they are unlikely to sweep themselves, to allow Skuntank to clean late-game.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Acid Spray allows Skuntank to pressure usual switch ins to other Skuntank sets such as Mudsdale, Torterra, and Gurdurr, putting the former two in particular into range of Skuntank's Z-move.
  • Sludge Bomb is an alternative that allows Skuntank to more immediately threaten Silvally-Fairy and Gurdurr, and attempt to Poison switch ins such as Regirock and Carbink that Acid Spray cannot affect due to Clear Body.
  • Taunt allows Skuntank to prevent entry hazard setters such as Regirock and Carbink which otherwise wall Skuntank from setting up Stealth Rock, and in conjunction with Acid Spray allows Skuntank to break through Audino.
  • Fire Blast is an alternative that allows Skuntank to break through prefer OHKO to break through because you already are solid vs them even without fire blast, it's not like skunk is guaranteed to lose the 1v1 otherwise Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash. It also allows Skuntank to break on the other hand, tort will eat a fire blast and kill you so the use of break is weird as opposed to, idk, some synonym for do mildly better vs Torterra without using its Z-move and lets it offensively check Victreebel.

Set Details
========

  • Darkinium Z provides Skuntank with a powerful nuke, which it can take advantage of in combination with Acid Spray to KO Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Torterra, and cripple Gurdurr. uh, Gurdurr is not a target for z-dark pulse
  • Black Sludge is an alternative if another member of Skuntank's team has a Z-Crystal, providing it with a passive form of recovery and allowing it to Defog more reliably.
  • Maximum Speed investment with a Timid Nature allows Skuntank to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Jolly Absol, however a Modest Nature can be run for a higher damage output, allowing Skuntank to threaten Pokemon such as Gurdurr and Regirock on switch in.

Usage Tips
========

  • Skuntank can aim to use Acid Spray during the early- and mid-game on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Victreebel and Jellicent to punish switch ins such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Eelektross. If Regirock or Carbink are present however, Skuntank should only ever do this once they have been crippled or removed, due to Clear Body preventing Special Defence drops, and should instead either attack, Taunt on the switch or double into a Pokemon that can pressure them.
  • However, Skuntank should be careful about when it uses its Z-Move, as this is usually a very obvious move after Skuntank has used Acid Spray versus a Pokemon such as Mudsdale, and may be useless if the opponent switches out. If another Pokemon such as Cryogonal or Lanturn is present that may attempt to switch into the Z-Move is present, Skuntank should ideally wait until they are removed or in range of the Z-Move, and focus more on using Dark Pulse when predicting Mudsdale to switch in.
  • Skuntank should prioritise using Defog on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Jellicent, Musharna, and Bronzor. If Skuntank is running Taunt, it can more freely use Defog while Regirock is still healthy, and Taunt it after it switches into Skuntank, although it must watch out for Regirock running Earthquake. Skuntank should however prioritise attacking Mudsdale if expecting it to come in, due to being unable to prevent it setting Stealth Rock back up.
  • If running Taunt, Skuntank can aim to use it when predicting Pokemon such as Regirock or Carbink to switch in, to prevent them setting up Stealth Rock. Skuntank can also aim to use it versus set up sweepers such as Turtonator, Omastar, and Carracosta that attempt to set up on Skuntank.
  • If running Fire Blast, Skuntank should be careful not to reveal this too early in the match, especially if teammates that appreciate Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash being removed are present, allowing it to potentially surprise them when attempting to switch into Acid Spray.

Team Options
========

  • Pokemon such as Lycanroc and Stoutland appreciate Skuntank weakening Mudsdale and Gurdurr, allowing them to more easily break the enemy team. Lycanroc in particular can help to check problematic special walls such as Articuno and Cryogonal, as well as Calm Mind Oricorio-E which can set up on Skuntank, while Skuntank appreciates Stoutland wearing down a shared check in Regirock, allowing it to more easily keep entry hazards off the field.
  • Thanks to Clear Body, Regirock and Carbink are capable of causing serious issues for Skuntank. Pokemon such as Golurk, Victreebel, and Eelektross that can pressure them make for good teammates, with Golurk being able to set Stealth Rock, Victreebel also being able to presure Gurdurr and Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move, as well as helping to wear down Eelektross and check Assault Vest Hitmonchan, and Eelektross being able to check Cryogonal with Drain Punch and also wear down Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move, and bring Skuntank in on Pokemon such as Musharna and Audino that it can help break.
  • Teammates such as Regirock and Metang can help to consistently check Silvally-Fairy, making up for Skuntank's inability to reliably pressure it when running Acid Spray. They can also help to pressure special walls such as Articuno and Cryogonal for Skuntank, and offer Stealth Rock support, and in return appreciate Skuntank pressuring Jellicent, Victreebel, and Sableye for them.
  • Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G are able to help check Gurdurr for Skuntank, and appreciate Skuntank luring specially defensive Alolan Sandslash with Fire Blast. Taunt Skuntank sets instead appreciate them being able to help check Victreebel, and can help pressure Audino. Skuntank also appreciates Oricorio-E being able to Poison Regirock with Toxic, allowing it to more reliably wear it down, and in return can help wear down their shared checks in Lanturn and Eelektross.
  • Fighting-types such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank taking on Jellicent, Musharna, and Victreebel for them. Primeape and Skuntank appreciate each other wearing down shared checks such as Mudsdale and Gurdurr, while Primeape and Gurdurr can help to pressure Regirock and Carbink, and specially defensive Pokemon such as Lanturn and Eelektross, for Skuntank.
  • If running Fire Blast, Pokemon such as Aurorus, Kangaskhan and Musharna appreciate Skuntank being able to lure Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash, especially specially defensive variants of the latter. In return, Aurorus is able to help pressure Mudsdale, Regirock and Torterra for Skuntank, Kangaskhan can help pressure Pokemon such as Cryogonal and Calm Mind Oricorio-E, and Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help chip switch ins to Skuntank such as Regirock and Carbink, an answer to specially defensive Pokemon that Skuntank struggles with such as Assault Vest Hitmonchan and Eelektross, and Healing Wish support for Skuntank's teammates.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Darknium Z is an option on physical attacking Skuntank that allows Skuntank to use a powerful Dark-type STAB attack versus Pokemon that could otherwise set up on it, such as Calm Mind Musharna, and allows it a one time opportunity to do large damage to threats such as Aurorus and Stoutland. This comes at the cost of a teammate being able to use a Z-move however. Skuntank can also opt to run Memento when doing this, to allow it to fully heal a teammate when it is no longer useful in a match and offer free set up opportunities.
  • Crunch is an option on physical attacking Skuntank over Defog or Taunt to allow it to more directly threaten Pokemon such as Metang and Musharna, however comes at the cost of a utility move or the ability to revenge kill faster Pokemon such as Dodrio and Omastar.
  • Skuntank can also opt to run Taunt and Toxic together on its Physical set, allowing it to spread Poisons for teammates such as Substitute + Protect Combusken and Calm Mind Musharna, while preventing Pokemon such as Lanturn and Audino from using Heal Bell, however this comes at the cost of one of Skuntank's attacking moves.
  • Skuntank can opt to run a set consisting of both Substitute and Toxic, allowing it to punish Pokemon such as Jellicent and Victreebel for switching out, or using Strength Sap, and allowing it to Toxic stall Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Regirock to wear them down, this however comes at the cost of preventing Skuntank from running a utility move such as Taunt or Defog, and one of its attacking moves.
  • Fire Blast is an option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to threaten Alolan Sandslash and Ferroseed, however Skuntank cannot outspeed offensive Alolan Sandslash sets in Hail and Fire Blast is heavily prediction reliant.
  • Explosion is also an option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to generate momentum and either heavily chip defensive Pokemon such as Mudsdale for a set up sweeper or remove an offensive threat such as Oricorio-E or Rotom-Frost in the process. Memento's ability to offer easier set up opportunities for win conditions such as Omastar is however generally more useful during the late-game.
iapapa or whatever pinch berry u prefer is defo a decent item if u want a bit more tankiness out of this

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-Types**: Mudsdale and Torterra are capable of consistently switching into Skuntank's attacks due to their good bulk, and can OHKO Skuntank in return with Earthquake, and can both consistently set up Stealth Rock too versus teams where Skuntank is running Defog. They must however both watch out versus special Skuntank, which can OHKO if they switch in on Acid Spray not really a one hit KO then, just say KO. More niche Ground-type options such as Alolan Dugtrio and Golurk can also threaten Skuntank, although Golurk cannot switch into Skuntank as it needs its Colbur Berry to check it.

**Defensive Pokemon**: Physically defensive Pokemon such as Regirock, Gurdurr, Mudsdale, and Ferroseed are capable of consistently switching into and walling physical Skuntank sets, and using it as a free opportunity to set entry hazards or in Gurdurr's case, set up with Bulk Up.

**Faster Pokemon**: Due to Skuntank's average speed stat, it is easily outsped and revenge killed by faster Pokemon such as Swanna, Simisear and Rotom-Frost, due to Sucker Punch requiring considerable chip damage to KO them. While Choice Scarf sets are capable of outspeeding such Pokemon, as well as other Pokemon it can attempt to revenge kill such as Silvally-Fairy, they also suffer from being slower than common scarfers such as Primeape, Dodrio, and Simisear. Skuntank also suffers from being slower than Pokemon such as Oricorio-G and Alolan Raichu that it can otherwise revenge kill with Sucker Punch, allowing them to potentially outplay this with moves such as Roost or Substitute, this is an especially noticeable issue for Choiced sets.

**Setup Sweepers**: Due to Skuntank's mediocre damage output, set up sweepers such as Carracosta, Turtonator, and Gurdurr can take advantage of it for free set up opportunities, however they must watch out for sets running Taunt. Furthermore, Skuntank's reliance on Sucker Punch to revenge kill faster threats can allow Substitute users such as Alolan Raichu and Simisear to outplay it, and potentially use it for free set up opportunities, while Choiced sets can be scouted with such moves, and can be taken advantage by Pokemon such as Oricorio-E, Oricorio-G, and Torterra for free set up if Skuntank locks, or has always locked, into Sucker Punch, or Pursuit. Many of these Pokemon however must watch out for Choice Scarf sets running Punishment, which can revenge kill them after they set up.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Skuntank stands out as one of the most versatile Pokemon in PU, being able to serve as a revenge killer and Pursuit trapper, while posessing strong utility options such as Defog and Taunt, all of which alongside multiple viable sets make it very easy to fit into most teams due to the utility and role compression it offers. last part is a bit fluffy
  • Skuntank's fantastic typing makes it one of the most reliable pursuit trappers it is arguably THE BEST pursuit trapper in the metagame and one of the most reliable checks to various Psychic- and Ghost- type Pokemon such as Musharna, Bronzor, and Jellicent in the tier. this is very true but i'd like to see a short explanation on why it is the case (unlike absol for example, skuntank can switch in really easily on mushy and bronzor as it doesnt take supereffective dmg from dgleam and bronzor cant cripple it w toxic, and it also doesn't die to haunter)
  • Skuntank's ability to run multiple viable sets makes it difficult to predict at team preview, and allows it to easily fit a teams needs, with Skuntank being able to run Choiced sets that trade some reliability due to move locking for the ability to more reliably Pursuit trap Jellicent and Metang and revenge kill higher HP targets such as?, or the ability to more reliably check faster thraets threats such as Oricorio-G, Oricorio-E, and Simisear, and special attacking sets that help to threaten switch ins such as Mudsdale and ferro far more, and break through defensive walls such as Torterra and Audino with Acid Spray and Taunt. did you mean to say respectively? you're not taunting tort. also this is an insanely long sentence that's pretty hard to read, make sure to break it up or make it more concise on writeup
  • Skuntank is however held back by its overall average stats, making it less reliable at revenge killing higher HP targets compared to other options such as Absol and Kangaskhan, skunk's atk and spe stats are only a tiny bit worse than kanga's, kanga is a better rker bc of its access to double priority, a stronger stab move in double-edge, and better coverage with eq and also facing competition from other Pursuit trappers with higher damage outputs such as Stoutland and Absol. skunk's pursuit is stronger than stout's. either remove the crossed-out section or reframe this ("and also facing competition as a Pursuit trapper from Absol and Stoutland, which are also generally stronger etc etc). also, absol shouldn't be mentioned twice so cut one of the mentions Because of this, Skuntank also greatly struggles against very common physical walls such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Gurdurr, when u point out its stats as to why it's struggling with said threats i get the notion that kanga and stout handle regi and gurdurr better, which is hardly true and Choice Band sets especially suffer due to this compared to other stronger physical attackers such as Stoutland, Crabominable and Dodrio. ftr the first two struggle somewhat w gurdurr, stout also struggles with regi, and the last only really threatens regi with sd fightinium, which is like, not a very common set and not very comparable to cb skunk. also cb skunk is legit quite the threat so id either reword the last portion about cb skunk to be less harsh or remove it entirely
  • Skuntank as a Defogger is also held back by its poor matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra, and while it can find multiple opportunities during a match to remove entry hazards versus Pokemon such as Musharna and Victreebel, it is forced to abandon attempting to Pursuit trap or revenge kill such targets when attempting to do this, idg why this (it is forced to abandon attempting to Pursuit trap or revenge kill such targets) is a point. u can say that just about any other hazard remover and it's kinda real basic and due to its lack of reliable recovery, it can struggle to support teams that are particularly vulnerable to Stealth Rock compared to other options such as Rotom-Frost Rotom-F, and this doesn't have reliable recovery either, Swanna, and Lurantis that have better matchups versus the afforementioned setters, and reliable recovery for the latter two.

Moves
========

  • Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark weak Pokemon such as Musharna, Haunter, and Bronzor, as well as Cryogonal and weakened Jellicent, and other assorted Pokemon that may attempt to directly switch into an answer to Skuntank to avoid taking crucial damage, such as Eelektross and Lanturn. the latter two are not good examples as in most cases they're much more likely to use volt switch, negating pursuit's power boost, or even attempt to burn you with scald in lanturn's case
  • Sucker Punch allows Skuntank to revenge kill faster threats such as Dodrio, Ludicolo, and Alolan Raichu, however it will usually need considerable chip damage first against the former two. this is framed a bit negatively for a second, non-slashed move, instead of saying "however u need considerable chip damage" say "as well as dodrio and ludicolo after chip damage"
  • Defog allows Skuntank to support its teammates by removing entry hazards, pairing well with its ability to absorb potential Toxic Spikes from Qwilfish. no need to explain defog. if you still want to talk about tspikes absorbance somewhere then u can try to fit it in the overview or usage tips
  • Taunt is an alternative choice if another Pokemon on Skuntank's team has Defog or Rapid Spin, allowing it to prevent Pokemon such as Regirock and Ferroseed and setting up Stealth Rock, and prevent foes such as Victreebel and Jellicent from freely healing against or statusing Skuntank. jelli can burn u with scald, another example plz
  • Toxic is an option to help Skuntank punish switch ins such as Regirock, Mudsdale, and Torterra, but lacks the utility and team support that Defog and Taunt otherwise provide.

Set Details
========

  • Aftermath is the ability of choice, allowing Skuntank to punish Pokemon such as Primeape and Dodrio for KOing it taking it out (doesnt have to be a KO necessarily) with a contact move, and can be used in conjunction with Sucker Punch to more reliably revenge kill such Pokemon by increasing the potential damage.
  • Rocky Helmet allows Skuntank to punish contact moves such as Kangaskhan's Fake Out and Primeape's U-turn a lil smth smth about how nicely it pairs with aftermath bc it's a bit too general atm.
  • Black Sludge is an alternative that offers Skuntank a passive form of recovery, allowing it to more reliably use Defog and Pursuit trap targets.
  • Black Glasses is another alternative that increases the power of Skuntank's Pursuit and Sucker Punch, allowing it to revenge kill Pokemon such as Simisear and Omastar from higher HP and KO Bronzor and Calm Mind Musharna after two Pursuit traps. just say that it allows to pressure the last two better, like trapping twice in a row isn't very meaningful when both of them run recovery

Usage Tips
========

  • Skuntank can make use of Sucker Punch to revenge kill weakened faster threats such as Ludicolo under rain, Dodrio, and Omastar simisear or alolachu are better examples, or try and Pursuit trap them when switching out under the threat of Sucker Punch.
  • If running Rocky Helmet, when low on HP or no longer useful in a match, Skuntank can be brought in on physical attackers such as Dodrio, Stoutland, and Crabominable in order to deal a considerable amount of recoil to the opponent through the combination of Aftermath and Rocky Helmet damage, and offer a safe switch in to a teammate. id mention ape over crab seeing as it's much more common and relevant, or gurdurr if you don't want to be too repetitive
  • If running Defog, as Skuntank does not have a good matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra, it should primarily attempt to remove entry hazards on Pokemon that it can force out or is not threatened by such as Musharna, Clefairy, Sableye, Cryogonal, and Victreebel. this list is a bit long and i'd remove vic seeing as attempting to defog on it is fairly situational (u only threaten it out if it's below 50% hp)
  • If running Taunt, Skuntank can more readily Pursuit trap targets such as Victreebel and Jellicent for its teammates, by preventing Victreebel from staying in and using Strength Sap, and preventing Jellicent from using Recover or Will-O-Wisp, however Skuntank will need to be brought in safely or by a double switch versus Jellicent if it does not want to risk being Burned. well, scald is p common on jelli too

Team Options
========

  • Water- and Grass-types such as Jellicent and Victreebel can help threaten Mudsdale and Regirock, which can both set Stealth Rock against and wall Skuntank.
  • Teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal can help check Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G for Skuntank, with Regirock also helping to check Kangaskhan and providing Stealth Rock support, and Cryogonal helping Skuntank check Victreebel and Jellicent, while allowing it to run Taunt or Toxic instead of Defog.
  • Fighting-type Pokemon such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank being able to Pursuit trap Musharna, and if running Taunt, Victreebel, for them. In return, they are able to pressure Regirock and Alolan Sandslash for Skuntank, while Primeape can provide Skuntank with free opportunities to Pursuit targets such as Musharna and Oricorio-G through U-turn. mush doesn't really switch in on ape's u-turn comfortably
  • Pokemon walled by Bronzor such as Choice Specs Aurorus, Swords Dance Alolan Sandslash no need to point out specific sets for these two, Musharna, and Kangaskhan appreciate Skuntank's Pursuit Trapping. Aurorus can also help to pressure Mudsdale for Skuntank, and appreciates Skuntank's support in removing or preventing Stealth Rock from setters such as Bronzor and Regirock, while Musharna can offer Future Sight support to help pressure switch ins such as Mudsdale and Regirock, and help to check Gurdurr.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark weak Pokemon such as Musharna, Bronzor, Jellicent, and Haunter, and weakened slower Pokemon such as Stoutland, Victreebel, and Lanturn.
  • Crunch offers Skuntank a reliable Dark-type STAB move, allowing it to more reliably threaten targets such as Musharna and Metang at high HP that would not be bothered by Sucker Punch wdym not bothered by sucker punch?, 2HKOing physically defensive sets of both Pokemon.

Set Details
========

  • Choice Band provides Skuntank with greatly increased damage potential on its moves, allowing it to be a more potent Pursuit trapper and revenge killer. This in particular allows it to 2HKO Calm Mind Musharna with Crunch, and have a good chance to OHKO Victreebel with Crunch or Poison Jab after 2 rounds of Stealth Rock damage. can u find a better example, like counting on vic to get chipped from stealth rock twice is highly ambitious let alone that this thing runs reliable recovery

Usage Tips
========

  • Thanks to the increased damage output provided by Choice Band, Skuntank is able to more reliably Pursuit trap threats such as Metang, Jellicent, and Victreebel that it would struggle with otherwise, due to the threat of a Choice Band boosted Crunch. Skuntank should however still be careful when attempting this and should not attempt to switch in versus the former two, due to the risk of an Earthquake or Will-O-Wisp if predicted. well, it shouldn't attempt to switch in on vic either bc ssap renders ur cb useless
  • Due to this increased damage, Skuntank is also able to better revenge kill faster threats such as Ludicolo and Choice Specs Simisear with Sucker Punch, although it is no longer able to safely revenge kill Pokemon such as Omastar, Carracosta, and Substitute Nasty Plot Simisear, which can bait out Sucker Punch and use Skuntank as setup fodder. don't really agree with this bullet, like, if you're not certain for sure that the opposing skunk is cb then you're not going to press shell smash 8 times in a row only to risk dying to crunch. in fact, i think u covered everything that can be said about sucker in the following bullet and there's no need for this one
  • In general, Choice Band Skuntank should be very careful about locking into specific moves, especially when Pokemon that can punish them are still present. For instance, locking into Sucker Punch allows for free setup from Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Omastar, and Musharna, and is especially dangerous if Substitute users such as Combusken, Simisear, like one person used sub simisear in a tour once. idg why there are so many mentions of it throughout the analysis or Alolan Raichu are present.

========

  • Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mudsale, Regirock, and Gurdurr are capable of consistantly walling Choice Band Skuntank. Teammates such as Victreebel, Jellicent, and Simisear can help break these Pokemon for Skuntank, and in return Victreebel appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal and Oricorio-G and mush, while Choice Scarf or Choice Specs Simisear sets appreciate Jellicent being Pursuit trapped.
  • Teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal can let Skuntank more freely risk locking into Pursuit or Sucker Punch, by helping to check Pokemon such as Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G that may attempt to set up on it after locking into an unfavorable move. Lycanroc is a more offensive option that can also help to revenge kill Turtunator and Simisear that attempt to set up on Skuntank, and appreciates Skuntank wearing down mutual checks such as Regirock and Mudsdale. yeah like, neither of them should count on each other to deal with these two
  • Musharna pairs excellently with Choice Band Skuntank, as Skuntank is able to Pursuit trap problematic Pokemon such as Bronzor, Haunter, and Metang for Musharna, while Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help punish switch ins to Skuntank such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Regirock, and help to check Gurdurr for Skuntank.
  • Teammates such as Choice Specs Aurorus this equally applies to scarf aurorus, Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy, and Kangaskhan appreciate Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor and Metang for them, enabling the former two to break enemy teams more easily. Silvally-Fairy in particular is able to bring Skuntank in on these Pokemon through U-turn.

Moves
========

  • Punishment is an alternative option to Defog, that allows Skuntank to more easily beat set up sweepers such as Oricorio-E and Simisear, while allowing Skuntank to beat Barrier Musharna, and thanks to Choice Scarf, Omastar and Turtonator after they have used Shell Smash once. unnecessarily long and complicated, just say "setup sweepers such as oricorio-e, musharna, omastar etc"
  • Memento is another option that allows Skuntank to sacrifice itself to offer a setup opportunity to one of its teammates late game, while providing free momentum. mention how it's not reliable when facing clear body mons like regi and carbink
  • Toxic can instead be run to cripple switch ins such as Mudsdale and Regirock, but is more situational, especially in matchups against Pokemon such as Qwilfish, and can be dangerous to lock into if predicted.

Set Details
========

  • A Choice Scarf with a Jolly Nature allows Skuntank to outspeed Pokemon such as Dodrio, Alolan Raichu, Lycanroc, and +2 Speed Omastar, allowing it to more reliably revenge kill faster threats without needing to use Sucker Punch. this list of mons isn't particularly helpful given that 90% of scarfers are capable of outspeeding them so like, yeah duh
  • While a Jolly Nature is usually preferred for being able to outspeed +2 Omastar, An Adamant Nature can instead be ran to allow Skuntank to do more damage at the cost of outspeeding +2 Omastar, notably guaranteeing that Skuntank KOs offensive Oricorio-G from full HP, and bulky Oricorio-G after Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========

  • Choice Scarf Skuntank should be very careful about what move it locks itself into, as locking into Pursuit could provide free opportunities for wallbreakers such as Drampa, Aurorus, and Crabominable, while locking into Sucker Punch can offer free setup opportunities for Pokemon such as Combusken, Oricorio-E, and Gurdurr scarf doesn't run sucker punch. Likewise, locking into Defog is a risky last resort option that leaves Skuntank wide open, and should only be done when absolutely necessary. on the contrary, due to its increased speed skunk can actually press pursuit against a lot of mons with little to no risk. it is true that stuff like drampa can take advantage of u after u trapped smth but i'd reword this bullet to reflect that clicking pursuit is not nearly as risky as clicking other stuff like defog
Skuntank should be careful when attempting this if it is still necessary to remove entry hazards or check Pokemon such as Haunter and Omastar, especially if Skuntank has not yet revealed that it is a Choice Scarf set, as the latter two Pokemon may attempt to Roost on a potential Sucker Punch. this bullet really confuses me, scarf skunk doesn't sun sucker punch and oma and haunter don't have access to roost. i just don't get what you're trying to say here
  • If running Punishment, Skuntank can also aim to use it versus Pokemon such as Calm Mind Oricorio-E, Nasty Plot Simisear, and Swords Dance Lycanroc lycan is a passable mention but carracosta is a better, more prevalent example if they are already chipped, however it should be careful not to reveal that it is Choice Scarf, or that it is running Punishment, if attempting to do this, in order to prevent the opponent swapping out and using Skuntank for free turns due to Punishment's low base power.
Skuntank should however be very careful about when it does this, especially after it has revealed the move, due to Skuntank being easily taken advantage of after locking into Toxic. you p much covered everything important in the moves section and these memento and toxic bullets don't really add much of value. seeing as these two moves are not even slashed on the main set i don't think they warrant dedicated bullets here

Team Options
========

  • Pivots such as Silvally-Fairy, Lanturn, and Rotom-F can help Skuntank perform its roles more reliably despite its average defensive stats. fluff Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy can help to put pressure on the physically defensive Pokemon Skuntank struggles with such as Mudsdale and Gurdurr, while being able to pivot Skuntank in on Bronzor with U-turn so that it can be Pursuit trapped, allowing Silvally-Fairy to more reliably clean late game. Lanturn can instead offer Heal Bell support, allowing Skuntank to more readily attempt to Pursuit trap Jellicent, and if Skuntank is running Punishment, Lanturn can pivot into Calm Mind Oricorio-E and safely bring Skuntank in against it with Volt Switch, break the two sentences here while Rotom-F can help to break Mudsale and Torterra for Skuntank, and offer Defog support so that Skuntank can run a different move such as Punishment or Memento.
In return, these Pokemon appreciate Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal, and also Bronzor in Oricorio-E's case maybe if taunt wasn't a thing.
  • Teammates such as Ludicolo and Abomasnow can help pressure Torterra, Mudsdale, and Regirock for Skuntank, helping to create situations where Skuntank can potentially clean up during the late game.
  • Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, Primeape, and Combusken appreciate Musharna's :smogthink: support in Pursuit trapping Pokemon such as Musharna and Alolan Raichu. Gurdurr can in return help to check Regirock and Mudsdale for Skuntank, and appreciates Skuntank's support against Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G, while Combusken can help patch up Skuntank's below average speed for a Choice Scarf user with Speed Boost help to break Pokemon such as Regirock, Gurdurr, meh and Torterra for Skuntank with a special attacking set what does threatening said mons have to do with skunk's speed?, while Swords Dance Combusken sets appreciate Memento support from Skuntank in order to more reliably set up late-game. long sentence alert
  • If running Memento, late-game set up sweepers such as Carracosta, Omastar, and Rock Polish Torterra make for good partners that can take advantage of the easier set up opportunities and make themselves harder to revenge kill. Torterra especially appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor, while all three Pokemon can help to break through problematic Pokemon for Skuntank such as Mudsdale and Regirock during the early-game if they are unlikely to sweep themselves, to allow Skuntank to clean late-game. while it shouldn't be framed around memento i think this bullet is fine, just restructure it so that any memento mention comes last and is fairly brief

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Acid Spray allows Skuntank to pressure usual switch ins to other Skuntank sets such as Mudsdale, Torterra, and Gurdurr, qwil def deserves a mention here too putting the former two in particular into range of Skuntank's Z-move.
  • Sludge Bomb is an alternative that allows Skuntank to more immediately threaten Silvally-Fairy and Gurdurr, and attempt to Poison switch ins such as Regirock and Carbink that Acid Spray cannot affect due to Clear Body. you still lose the 1v1 to carbink esp if not running taunt bc sludge bomb deals less damage than u take from moonblast (u get 4hkod) and it can heal itself of poisoning with rest. so to sum up this absurdly long comment i would just drop the carbink mention lol
  • Taunt allows Skuntank to prevent entry hazard setters such as Regirock and Carbink which otherwise wall Skuntank from setting up Stealth Rock, and in conjunction with Acid Spray allows Skuntank to break through Audino.
  • Fire Blast is an alternative that allows Skuntank to OHKO Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash. It also allows Skuntank to do more damage versus Torterra without using its Z-move and lets it offensively check Victreebel. black hole eclipse actually deals a bit more damage to both, and honestly i'd remove the torterra mention bc fire blast still doesn't help you vs it much if you don't hit it with acid spray before

Set Details
========

  • Darkinium Z provides Skuntank with a powerful nuke, which it can take advantage of in combination with Acid Spray to KO Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Torterra.
  • Black Sludge is an alternative if another member of Skuntank's team has a Z-Crystal, providing it with a passive form of recovery and allowing it to Defog more reliably.
  • Maximum Speed investment with a Timid Nature allows Skuntank to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Jolly Absol, however a Modest Nature can be run for a higher damage output, allowing Skuntank to threaten Pokemon such as Gurdurr and Regirock on switch in. moreso chip, ur damage output is still kinda garbo

Usage Tips
========

  • Skuntank can aim to use Acid Spray during the early- and mid-game on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Victreebel and Jellicent to punish switch ins such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Eelektross. If Regirock or Carbink are present however, Skuntank should only ever do this once they have been crippled or removed, due to Clear Body preventing Special Defence drops, and should instead either attack, no point in doing this Taunt on the switch or double into a Pokemon that can pressure them.
  • If running Fire Blast, Skuntank should be careful not to reveal this too early in the match, especially if teammates that appreciate Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash being removed are present, allowing it to potentially surprise them when attempting to switch into Acid Spray. actually they're very likely to expect fire blast after they see you're not physically offensive. instead talk about not revealing that you're special before using fire blast

Team Options
========

  • Thanks to Clear Body, Regirock and Carbink are capable of causing serious issues for Skuntank. this is just the kinda fluffy unnecessary intro that u can easily merge into the rest of the bullet Pokemon such as Golurk, Victreebel, and Eelektross that can pressure them and here you just say "regirock and carbink" make for good teammates, with Golurk being able to set Stealth Rock, Victreebel also being able to presure Gurdurr and Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move, as well as helping to wear down Eelektross and check Assault Vest Hitmonchan digimon, and Eelektross being able to check Cryogonal with Drain Punch and also wear down Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move, and bring Skuntank in on Pokemon such as Musharna and Audino that it can help break. aaaaa long sentence alert. so here instead of saying "and deal with this mon by doing this, and deal with this mon by doing this, and and..." u can just list the mons
  • Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G are able to help check Gurdurr for Skuntank, and appreciate Skuntank luring specially defensive Alolan Sandslash smh my head with Fire Blast. Taunt Skuntank sets instead appreciate them being able to help check Victreebel, and can help pressure Audino. Skuntank also appreciates Oricorio-E being able to Poison Regirock with Toxic, allowing it to more reliably wear it down a bit too specific for smth that pompom really doesn't run that often, and this bullet is detailed enough as is, and in return can help wear down their shared checks in Lanturn and Eelektross. lanturn and eel don't really check skunk?
  • Fighting-types such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank taking on Jellicent, Musharna, and Victreebel for them. Primeape and Skuntank appreciate each other wearing down shared checks such as Mudsdale and Gurdurr, while Primeape and Gurdurr can help to pressure Regirock and Carbink, and specially defensive Pokemon such as Lanturn and Eelektross, for Skuntank.
  • If running Fire Blast, Pokemon such as Aurorus, Kangaskhan and Musharna appreciate Skuntank being able to lure Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash, idk kanga doesn't have an issue with slash, it's the other way around if anything especially specially defensive variants of the latter girl. In return, Aurorus is able to help pressure Mudsdale, Regirock and Torterra for Skuntank, Kangaskhan can help pressure Pokemon such as Cryogonal and Calm Mind Oricorio-E, and Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help chip switch ins to Skuntank such as Regirock and Carbink, an answer to specially defensive Pokemon that Skuntank struggles with such as Assault Vest Hitmonchan and Eelektross, long sentence alert and Healing Wish support for Skuntank's teammates. fluff

Other Options
=============

  • Darknium Z is an option on physical attacking Skuntank that allows Skuntank to use a powerful Dark-type STAB attack versus Pokemon that could otherwise set up on it, such as Calm Mind barrier? Musharna, and allows it a one time opportunity to do large damage to threats such as Aurorus and Stoutland. This comes at the cost of a teammate being able to use a Z-move however moreso bc its hard to justify it over truly useful items like rocky helm and sludge when you already deal with your targets pretty well. Skuntank can also opt to run Memento when doing this, to allow it to fully heal a teammate when it is no longer useful in a match and offer free set up opportunities. ?? i don't understand what this last sentence has to do with the rest of the bullet
  • Iapapa Berry is also an option on Skuntank to provide more longevity, however the healing provided by Black Sludge is more consistent due to the chance that Skuntank will not be able to activate its Iapapa Berry.
  • Crunch is an option on physical attacking Skuntank over Defog or Taunt to allow it to more directly threaten Pokemon such as Metang and Musharna, however comes at the cost of a utility move or the ability to revenge kill faster Pokemon such as Dodrio and Omastar. please another example over oma, sucker does really garbo damage even to -1 def oma
  • Fire Blast is an option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to threaten Alolan Sandslash and Ferroseed, however Skuntank cannot outspeed offensive Alolan Sandslash sets in Hail and Fire Blast is heavily prediction reliant and really weak and useless when not targeting 4x weak mons.
  • Explosion is also an option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to generate momentum and either heavily chip defensive Pokemon such as Mudsdale for a set up sweeper or remove an offensive threat such as Oricorio-E or Rotom-Frost Rotom-F in the process. Memento's ability to offer easier set up opportunities for win conditions such as Omastar is however generally more useful during the late-game.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-Types**: Mudsdale and Torterra are capable of consistently switching into Skuntank's attacks due to their good bulk, and can OHKO Skuntank in return with Earthquake, and can both consistently set up Stealth Rock too versus teams where Skuntank is running Defog. this is an example of where u can rewrite things to improve their flow; the multiple "and"s make this sentence more awkward to read than it should be. They must however both watch out versus special Skuntank, which can KO if they switch in on Acid Spray. More niche Ground-type options such as Alolan Dugtrio digimon. u can talk about gastrodon instead if u want and Golurk can also threaten Skuntank, although Golurk cannot switch into Skuntank as it needs its Colbur Berry to check it period.

**Defensive Pokemon**: Physically defensive Pokemon such as Regirock, Gurdurr, Mudsdale already mentioned it above, and Ferroseed are capable of consistently switching into and walling physical Skuntank sets, and using it as a free opportunity to set entry hazards or in Gurdurr's case, set up with Bulk Up well, not completely free in ferro's case as it can't do much if it gets taunted.

**Faster Pokemon**: Due to Skuntank's average speed stat, it is easily outsped and revenge killed it's not easily revenge killed, bc as u said later on, your opponent has to rely on their fast mons being at full health to do so by faster Pokemon such as Swanna, Simisear and Rotom-Frost Rotom-F, due to Sucker Punch requiring considerable chip damage to KO them. frosttom can also cripple u with will-o-wisp While Choice Scarf sets are capable of outspeeding such Pokemon, as well as other Pokemon it can attempt to revenge kill such as Silvally-Fairy, they also suffer from being slower than common scarfers such as Primeape, Dodrio, and Simisear neither is it an analysis set nor is it common. u can mention alolan sandslash under hail. Skuntank also suffers from being slower than Pokemon such as Oricorio-G and Alolan Raichu that it can otherwise revenge kill with Sucker Punch i don't get what you're trying to say, if u were faster then u wouldn't have needed sucker punch to take them out, allowing them to potentially outplay this with moves such as Roost or Substitute, this is an especially noticeable issue for Choiced sets. reorder the last two sentences so there's a clearer distinction between non-scarf and scarf skunk sets

**Setup Sweepers**: Due to Skuntank's mediocre damage output, set up sweepers such as Carracosta, Turtonator, and Gurdurr can take advantage of it for free set up opportunities, however they must watch out for sets running Taunt the first two also must watch out for punishment. Furthermore, Skuntank's reliance on Sucker Punch to revenge kill faster threats can allow Substitute users such as Alolan Raichu and Simisear um, jynx to outplay it, and potentially use it for free set up opportunities, while Choiced sets can be scouted with such moves, and can be taken advantage by Pokemon such as Oricorio-E, Oricorio-G, and Torterra for free set up if Skuntank locks, or has always locked, into Sucker Punch, or Pursuit. another sentence that's a bit long and awkward to read. if you're not sure what's wrong try reading it out loud in one breath Many of these Pokemon however must watch out for Choice Scarf sets running Punishment, which can revenge kill them after they set up. now i see that you addressed punishment lol. i already managed to forget about the first three mons you were talking about by the time i got to this part so please, structure this so that all "however"s are concentrated in the end of the paragraph where you can more easily link each downside to the specific mons

very good job!!
this might seem like a lot but legit most of the bolded text is just me getting pissy about long sentences or things that can easily be replaced or removed. when writing up please make the effort to make the analysis more concise and flow-y (i tried to point out the worst offenders to make it easier for you), and also watch out for general spelling errors

[OVERVIEW]

Skuntank stands out as one of the most versatile Pokemon in PU, being able to serve as a revenge killer and Pursuit trapper while possessing strong utility options such as Defog and Taunt, all of which alongside having multiple viable sets make it very easy to fit into most teams. Skuntank's fantastic typing makes it one of the best Pursuit trappers and most reliable checks to various Psychic- and Ghost- type Pokemon such as Musharna, Bronzor, and Jellicent in the tier. (Tho you do almost always straight lose to barrier mush) Skuntank's ability to run multiple viable sets makes it difficult to predict at team preview and allows it to easily fit a teams needs, with Skuntank being able to run Choiced sets that trade some reliability due to move locking for the ability to more reliably Pursuit trap Jellicent and Metang and revenge kill targets such as Simisear and Stoutland at higher HP, or the ability to more reliably check faster threats such as Oricorio-G, Oricorio-E, and Simisear.(super long split this point up please) Furthermore, Skuntank can also run special attacking sets that help to threaten switch ins such as Mudsdale and Ferroseed far more, and break through defensive walls such as Torterra and Audino with Acid Spray and Taunt respectively (meh on the muds point you have to hit acid spray on the switch and still have dark z). Skuntank's ability Aftermath also allows it to support its teammates by allowing it to trade itself to greatly chip (nah) physical attackers that use contact moves such as Primeape, Stoutland, Crabominable, and Dodrio, and if holding a Rocky Helmet allows it to remove considerable amounts of HP when being sacrificed, allowing Skuntank to provide valuable support and momentum even when it is no longer useful during a match. Skuntank is however held back by its overall average stats, facing competition from Pursuit trappers such as Stoutland and Absol that are generally stronger, and struggling to switch repeatedly into Pokemon it checks such as Haunter and Musharna due to average bulk. Furthermore, its average attacking stats make it unreliable at revenge killing higher HP targets and causes it to struggle greatly against common physical walls such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Gurdurr, while Skuntank also faces competition as a revenge killer from Kangaskhan due to its double priority, stronger STAB move in Double Edge, and better coverage in Earthquake. Skuntank is also held back as a Defogger by its poor matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra and its lack of reliable recovery, meaning it can struggle to support teams that are particularly vulnerable to Stealth Rock compared to other options such as Rotom-F, Swanna, and Lurantis that have better matchups versus the afforementioned setters, and reliable recovery for the latter two.

Moves
========

Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark weak Pokemon such as Musharna, Haunter, and Bronzor, as well as Cryogonal and weakened Jellicent (never a fan of mushy as an example ngl). Sucker Punch allows Skuntank to revenge kill faster threats such as Alolan Raichu, as well as Dodrio and Ludicolo after chip damage. Taunt is an alternative choice if another Pokemon on Skuntank's team has Defog or Rapid Spin, allowing it to prevent Pokemon such as Regirock and Ferroseed and setting up Stealth Rock, and prevent foes such as Victreebel and non-Scald Jellicent from freely healing against or statusing Skuntank. Toxic is an option to help Skuntank punish switch ins such as Regirock, Mudsdale, and Torterra, but lacks the utility and team support that Defog and Taunt otherwise provide.

Set Details
========

Aftermath is the ability of choice, allowing Skuntank to punish Pokemon such as Primeape and Dodrio for KOing it with a contact move, and can be used in conjunction with Sucker Punch to more reliably revenge kill such Pokemon by increasing the potential damage. Rocky Helmet allows Skuntank to punish contact moves such as Kangaskhan's Fake Out and Primeape's U-turn, and pairs well with Aftermath by removing a considerable amount of HP from such Pokemon when Skuntank is KOd. Black Sludge is an alternative that offers Skuntank a passive form of recovery, allowing it to more reliably use Defog and Pursuit trap targets. Black Glasses is another alternative that increases the power of Skuntank's Pursuit and Sucker Punch, allowing it to revenge kill Pokemon such as Simisear and Omastar (you do piss weak damage to oma) from higher HP and pressure Bronzor and Musharna more.

Usage Tips
========

Skuntank can make use of Sucker Punch to revenge kill weakened faster threats such as Ludicolo under Rain, Dodrio, and Simisear, or try and Pursuit trap them when switching out under the threat of Sucker Punch. Skuntank should watch out when using Sucker Punch against Oricorio-G and Alolan Raichu however, if it is not yet known whether they are running Substitute. (Simi runs sub too is) In matchups where Skuntank is necessary to Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Haunter and Musharna (again meh), Skuntank should try and preserve its HP as much as possible, to ensure that it has enough HP to survive a hit from such Pokemon if they stay in. If running Rocky Helmet, when low on HP or no longer useful in a match, Skuntank can be brought in on physical attackers such as Dodrio, Stoutland, Gurdurr, and Crabominable in order to deal a considerable amount of recoil to the opponent through the combination of Aftermath and Rocky Helmet damage, and offer a safe switch in to a teammate. (Tho gurdurr can be super iffy) If running Defog, as Skuntank does not have a good matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra, it should primarily attempt to remove entry hazards on Pokemon that it can force out or is not threatened by such as Musharna, Clefairy, Sableye, and Cryogonal. If running Taunt, Skuntank can more readily Pursuit trap targets such as Victreebel and Jellicent for its teammates, by preventing Victreebel from staying in and using Strength Sap, and preventing Jellicent from using Recover or Will-O-Wisp, however Skuntank will need to be brought in safely or by a double switch if it does not want to risk being Burned, and must watch out for Scald variants of Jellicent.

Team Options
========

Water- and Grass-types such as Jellicent and Victreebel can help threaten Mudsdale and Regirock, which can both set Stealth Rock against and wall Skuntank. Victreebel can also help deal with Gurdurr, and appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Oricorio-G, (ehhh ori-g can be a tough mu depending on the set is my only issue. ik sub is less common now but even the bulky fly z sets can seriously smash skunk) Cryogonal and Musharna for it. Torterra is another option that can help threaten them, while being able to provide Stealth Rock support or a win condition with Rock Polish, and also appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping these targets. Teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal can help check Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G for Skuntank (see this contradicts the previous point innit), with Regirock also helping to check Kangaskhan and providing Stealth Rock support, and Cryogonal helping Skuntank check Victreebel and Jellicent, while allowing it to run Taunt or Toxic instead of Defog. Fighting-type Pokemon such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank being able to Pursuit trap Musharna (some mushys, not all) and if running Taunt, Victreebel, for them. In return, they are able to pressure Regirock and Alolan Sandslash for Skuntank, while Primeape can provide Skuntank with free opportunities to Pursuit targets such as Oricorio-G :blobglare: through U-turn. Pokemon walled by Bronzor such as Aurorus, Alolan Sandslash, Musharna, and Kangaskhan appreciate Skuntank's Pursuit Trapping.

Moves
========

Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark weak Pokemon such as Musharna, Bronzor, Jellicent, and Haunter, and weakened slower Pokemon such as Stoutland, Victreebel, and Lanturn. Crunch offers Skuntank a reliable Dark-type STAB move, allowing it to more reliably threaten targets such as Musharna and Metang at high HP, 2HKOing physically defensive sets of both Pokemon. (tho metang is iffy because eq also hits hard af in return)

Set Details
========

Choice Band provides Skuntank with greatly increased damage potential on its moves, allowing it to be a more potent Pursuit trapper and revenge killer. This in particular allows it to 2HKO Calm Mind Musharna with Crunch, and OHKO Abomasnow with Poison Jab. Maximum Speed with a Jolly Nature is preferred to allow Skuntank to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Jolly Absol, noteably allowing Skuntank to revenge kill the latter after Stealth Rock damage. An Adamant Nature can be ran instead for a better damage output, allowing Skuntank to punish switch ins such as Mudsdale more and to more reliably Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Jellicent and Metang, while guaranteeing that Skuntank can OHKO Silvally-Fairy with Poison Jab.

Usage Tips
========

Thanks to the increased damage output provided by Choice Band, Skuntank is able to more reliably Pursuit trap threats such as Metang, Jellicent, and Victreebel that it would struggle with otherwise, due to the threat of a Choice Band boosted Crunch. Skuntank should however still be careful when attempting this and should not attempt to switch in versus the former two or a predicted Strength Sap from Victreebel, due to the risk of an Earthquake or Will-O-Wisp if predicted. In general, Choice Band Skuntank should be very careful about locking into specific moves, especially when Pokemon that can punish them are still present. For instance, locking into Sucker Punch allows for free setup from Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Omastar, and Musharna, and is especially dangerous if Substitute users such as Combusken or Alolan Raichu are present.

========

Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mudsale, Regirock, and Gurdurr are capable of consistantly walling Choice Band Skuntank. Teammates such as Victreebel, Jellicent, and Simisear can help break these Pokemon for Skuntank, and in return Victreebel appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal, Musharna, and Oricorio-G, while Choice Specs Simisear appreciate Jellicent being Pursuit trapped. Pivots such as Lanturn and Eelektross are able to bring Skuntank in on Pokemon such as Victreebel, Cryogonal and Musharna that it can Pursuit trap. Eelektross can also help to pressure Mudsdale and Regirock for Skuntank, while Assault Vest Lanturn can help to check Omastar and non-Grassium Z Simisear, which can set up on Skuntank locked into Pursuit or Sucker Punch. Teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal can check Pokemon such as Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G that may attempt to set up on it after locking into an unfavorable move. Lycanroc is a more offensive option that can also help to revenge kill Turtunator and Simisear that attempt to set up on Skuntank (lycan only does like max what 70% to +2 turt with accel tho, when turt has -1 def). Musharna pairs excellently with Choice Band Skuntank, as Skuntank is able to Pursuit trap problematic Pokemon such as Bronzor, Haunter, and Metang for Musharna, while Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help punish switch ins to Skuntank such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Regirock, and help to check Gurdurr for Skuntank. Teammates such as Alolan Sandslash and Primeape appreciate Skuntank's ability to Pursuit trap Jellicent, enabling Alolan Sandslash to more easily remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin or break through the opposing team with Swords Dance. Primeape in particular is able to invite Jellicent in and U-turn against it, bringing Skuntank in safely without risk of being Burned. Teammates such as Aurorus, Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy, and Kangaskhan appreciate Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor and Metang for them, enabling the former two to break enemy teams more easily. Silvally-Fairy in particular is able to bring Skuntank in on these Pokemon through U-turn.

name: Choice Scarf

move 4: Defog / Punishment
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Aftermath
nature: Jolly / Adamant

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Punishment is an alternative option to Defog, that allows Skuntank to more easily beat set up sweepers such as Oricorio-E, Musharna, Turtonator, and Simisear. Memento is another option that allows Skuntank to sacrifice itself to offer a setup opportunity to one of its teammates late game, while providing free momentum, however is not as reliable when Regirock or Carbink are present, due to Clear Body blocking the stat drops while Skuntank still faints. Toxic can instead be run to cripple switch ins such as Mudsdale and Regirock, but is more situational, especially in matchups against Pokemon such as Qwilfish, and can be dangerous to lock into if predicted.

Set Details
========

While a Jolly Nature is usually preferred for being able to outspeed +2 Omastar, an Adamant Nature can instead be ran to allow Skuntank to do more damage, notably guaranteeing that Skuntank KOs offensive Oricorio-G from full HP, and bulky Oricorio-G after Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========

Choice Scarf Skuntank should be careful about what move it locks itself into, as locking into Pursuit could provide free opportunities for wallbreakers such as Drampa, Aurorus, and Crabominable or set up sweepers such as Carracosta and Oricorio-E, and you should therefore carefully consider this when clicking Pursuit. Locking into Defog is a very risky last resort option that leaves Skuntank wide open, and should only be done when absolutely necessary. Thanks to the increased Speed from its Choice Scarf, Skuntank can be used to Pursuit trap faster Dark weak Pokemon such as Alolan Raichu and Jynx that could otherwise KO or put Skuntank to sleep first, as well as weakened fast threats such as Simisear, Lycanroc, Oricorio-E, and Swanna. Skuntank should be wary about attempting this versus the latter two Pokemon if it has not yet revealed that it is a Choice Scarf set as they may attempt to Roost predicting a Sucker Punch. If running Punishment, Skuntank can also aim to use it versus Pokemon such as Carracosta, Calm Mind Oricorio-E, and Nasty Plot Simisear if they are already chipped, however it should be careful not to reveal that it is Choice Scarf, or that it is running Punishment, if attempting to do this, in order to prevent the opponent swapping out and using Skuntank for free turns due to Punishment's low base power.

Team Options
========

Pivots such as Silvally-Fairy, Lanturn, and Rotom-F can help Skuntank perform its roles more reliably despite its average defensive stats. Lanturn can instead offer Heal Bell support, allowing Skuntank to more readily attempt to Pursuit trap Jellicent, and if Skuntank is running Punishment, Lanturn can pivot into Calm Mind Oricorio-E and safely bring Skuntank in against it with Volt Switch. Rotom-F can help to break Mudsale and Torterra for Skuntank, and offer Defog support so that Skuntank can run a different move such as Punishment or Memento. Gurdurr is able to switch into Skuntank fairly safely and use it as setup fodder, and therefore reliable checks such as Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G are helpful teammates for Skuntank. While it can't deal with Gurdurr well, Jellicent is another option that can deal well with Choice Scarf Primeape and isn't weak to Stealth Rock, which is especially useful due to Primeape outspeeding Skuntank as a Choice Scarf user. In return, these Pokemon appreciate Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal, and also Bronzor in Oricorio-E's case if not running Taunt. Teammates such as Ludicolo and Abomasnow can help pressure Torterra, Mudsdale, and Regirock for Skuntank, helping to create situations where Skuntank can potentially clean up during the late game. Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, Primeape, and Combusken appreciate Skuntank's support in Pursuit trapping Pokemon such as Musharna and Alolan Raichu. Gurdurr can in return help to check Regirock and Mudsdale for Skuntank, and appreciates Skuntank's support against Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G, while Combusken can help patch up Skuntank's below average speed for a Choice Scarf user with Speed Boost and help to break Pokemon such as Regirock and Torterra for Skuntank with a special attacking set, while Swords Dance Combusken sets appreciate Memento support from Skuntank in order to more reliably set up late-game. Set up sweepers such as Carracosta, Omastar, and Rock Polish Torterra can help break through problematic Pokemon for Skuntank such as Mudsdale and Regirock, with Torterra in particular highly appreciating Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor. All three can also take advantage of Memento support to set up more easily and become harder to revenge kill.

Moves

Acid Spray allows Skuntank to pressure usual switch ins to other Skuntank sets such as Mudsdale, Torterra, Qwilfish, and Gurdurr, putting the former two in particular into range of Skuntank's Z-move. Sludge Bomb is an alternative that allows Skuntank to more immediately threaten Silvally-Fairy and Gurdurr, and attempt to Poison switch ins such as Regirock that Acid Spray cannot affect due to Clear Body. Taunt allows Skuntank to prevent entry hazard setters such as Regirock and Carbink which otherwise wall Skuntank from setting up Stealth Rock, and in conjunction with Acid Spray allows Skuntank to break through Audino. Fire Blast is an alternative that allows Skuntank to OHKO Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash. It also allows Skuntank to do comparable damage versus Torterra without using its Z-move and lets it offensively check Victreebel.

Set Details
========

Darkinium Z provides Skuntank with a powerful nuke, which it can take advantage of in combination with Acid Spray to KO Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Torterra. Black Sludge is an alternative if another member of Skuntank's team has a Z-Crystal, providing it with a passive form of recovery and allowing it to Defog more reliably. Maximum Speed investment with a Timid Nature allows Skuntank to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Jolly Absol, however a Modest Nature can be run for a higher damage output, allowing Skuntank to do more chip damage to Pokemon such as Gurdurr and Regirock on switch in.

Usage Tips
========

Skuntank can aim to use Acid Spray during the early- and mid-game on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Victreebel and Jellicent to punish switch ins such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Eelektross. If Regirock or Carbink are present however, Skuntank should only ever do this once they have been crippled or removed, due to Clear Body preventing Special Defence drops, and should instead either Taunt on the switch or double into a Pokemon that can pressure them. However, Skuntank should be careful about when it uses its Z-Move, as this is usually a very obvious move after Skuntank has used Acid Spray versus a Pokemon such as Mudsdale, and may be useless if the opponent switches out. If another Pokemon such as Cryogonal or Lanturn is present that may attempt to switch into the Z-Move is present, Skuntank should ideally wait until they are removed or in range of the Z-Move, and focus more on using Dark Pulse when predicting Mudsdale to switch in. Skuntank should prioritise using Defog on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Jellicent, Musharna, and Bronzor. If running Taunt, Skuntank can aim to use it when predicting Pokemon such as Regirock or Carbink to switch in, to prevent them setting up Stealth Rock. Skuntank can also aim to use it versus set up sweepers such as Turtonator, Omastar, and Carracosta that attempt to set up on Skuntank. If running Fire Blast, Skuntank should be careful not to that Skuntank is running a special set early in the match if teammates that appreciate Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash being removed are present, as the opponent will likely anticipate that you are running Fire Blast after this.

Team Options
========

Pokemon such as Lycanroc and Stoutland appreciate Skuntank weakening Mudsdale and Gurdurr, allowing them to more easily break the enemy team. Pokemon such as Golurk, Victreebel, and Eelektross that can pressure Regirock and Carbink make for good teammates, with Golurk being able to set Stealth Rock, Victreebel also being able to presure Gurdurr and Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move, as well as helping to wear down Eelektross and check Assault Vest Hitmonchan, and Eelektross being able to check Cryogonal with Drain Punch and also wear down Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move, and bring Skuntank in on Pokemon such as Musharna and Audino that it can help break. Teammates such as Regirock and Metang can help to consistently check Silvally-Fairy, making up for Skuntank's inability to reliably pressure it when running Acid Spray. They can also help to pressure special walls such as Articuno and Cryogonal for Skuntank, and offer Stealth Rock support, and in return appreciate Skuntank pressuring Jellicent, Victreebel, and Sableye for them. Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G are able to help check Gurdurr for Skuntank, and appreciate Skuntank being able to remove specially defensive Alolan Sandslash with Fire Blast. Taunt Skuntank sets can instead help to pressure Audino for them, and appreciate their help dealing with Victreebel. Skuntank also appreciates Oricorio-E being able to Poison its checks such as Regirock, Lanturn, and Eelektross with Toxic. Fighting-types such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank taking on Jellicent, Musharna, and Victreebel for them. If running Fire Blast, Pokemon such as Kangaskhan, Aurorus, and Musharna appreciate Skuntank being able to lure Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash, especially specially defensive variants of the latter. In return, Aurorus is able to help pressure Mudsdale, Regirock and Torterra for Skuntank, Kangaskhan can help pressure Pokemon such as Cryogonal and Calm Mind Oricorio-E, and Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help chip switch ins to Skuntank such as Regirock and Carbink, and an answer to specially defensive Pokemon that Skuntank struggles with such as Assault Vest Hitmonchan and Eelektross.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Darknium Z is an option on physical attacking Skuntank that allows Skuntank to use a powerful Dark-type STAB attack versus Pokemon that could otherwise set up on it, such as Calm Mind Musharna, and allows it a one time opportunity to do large damage to threats such as Aurorus and Stoutland. This comes at the cost of a teammate being able to use a Z-move however, and is hard to justify over more useful items such as Rocky Helmet and Black Sludge. Skuntank can also opt to run Memento when running Darkinium Z, to allow it to fully heal a teammate when it is no longer useful in a match and offer free set up opportunities. Iapapa Berry is also an option on Skuntank to provide more longevity, however the healing provided by Black Sludge is more consistent due to the chance that Skuntank will not be able to activate its Iapapa Berry. Crunch is an option on physical attacking Skuntank over Defog or Taunt to allow it to more directly threaten Pokemon such as Metang and Musharna, however comes at the cost of a utility move or the ability to revenge kill faster Pokemon such as Dodrio and Simisear. Skuntank can also opt to run Taunt and Toxic together on its Physical set, allowing it to spread Poisons for teammates such as Substitute + Protect Combusken and Calm Mind Musharna, while preventing Pokemon such as Lanturn and Audino from using Heal Bell, however this comes at the cost of one of Skuntank's attacking moves. Skuntank can also choose to run a set consisting of both Substitute and Toxic, allowing it to punish Pokemon such as Jellicent and Victreebel for switching out, or using Strength Sap, and allowing it to Toxic stall Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Regirock to wear them down, this however comes at the cost of preventing Skuntank from running a utility move such as Taunt or Defog, and one of its attacking moves. Fire Blast is an option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to threaten Alolan Sandslash and Ferroseed, however Skuntank cannot outspeed offensive Alolan Sandslash sets in Hail and Fire Blast is heavily prediction reliant, and very weak against targets not 4x weak to Fire. Explosion is another option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to generate momentum and either heavily chip defensive Pokemon such as Mudsdale for a set up sweeper or remove an offensive threat such as Oricorio-E or Rotom-F in the process. Memento's ability to offer easier set up opportunities for win conditions such as Omastar is however generally more useful during the late-game.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-Types**: Mudsdale and Torterra are capable of consistently switching into Skuntank's attacks due to their good bulk, can OHKO Skuntank in return with Earthquake, and can both consistently set up Stealth Rock versus teams where Skuntank is running Defog. They must however both watch out versus special Skuntank, which can KO if they switch in on Acid Spray. More niche Ground-type options such as Gastrodon and Golurk can also threaten Skuntank, although Golurk cannot switch into Skuntank.

**Defensive Pokemon**: Physically defensive Pokemon such as Regirock, Gurdurr, and Ferroseed are capable of consistently switching into and walling physical Skuntank sets, and using it as a free opportunity to set entry hazards or in Gurdurr's case, set up with Bulk Up, although Ferroseed must watch out for Taunt.

**Faster Pokemon**: Due to Skuntank's average speed stat, it is outsped and revenge killed by faster Pokemon such as Swanna, Simisear and Rotom-F, due to Sucker Punch requiring considerable chip damage to KO them, and the risk of Will-O-Wisp from Rotom-F. Skuntank also suffers from being slower than Pokemon such as Oricorio-G and Alolan Raichu that it must rely on Sucker Punch to deal with, allowing them to potentially outplay this with moves such as Roost or Substitute, which is an especially noticeable issue for Choice Band variants. While Choice Scarf sets are capable of outspeeding such Pokemon, as well as other Pokemon it can attempt to revenge kill such as Silvally-Fairy, they also suffer from being slower than common scarfers such as Primeape and Dodrio, as well as Alolan Sandslash under Hail.

**Setup Sweepers**: Due to Skuntank's mediocre damage output, set up sweepers such as Carracosta, Turtonator, and Gurdurr can take advantage of it for free set up opportunities, however they must watch out for sets running Taunt. Furthermore, Skuntank's reliance on Sucker Punch to revenge kill faster threats can allow Substitute users such as Alolan Raichu and Jynx to outplay it, and potentially use it for free set up opportunities, while Choiced sets can be scouted with such moves, and can be taken advantage by Pokemon such as Oricorio-E, Oricorio-G, and Torterra for free set up if Skuntank locks, or has always locked, into Sucker Punch, or Pursuit. Many of these Pokemon however must watch out for Choice Scarf sets running Punishment, which can revenge kill them after they set up.

[OVERVIEW]

Skuntank stands out as one of the most versatile Pokemon in PU, being able to serve as a revenge killer and Pursuit trapper while possessing strong utility options such as Defog and Taunt; all of which these traits,(AC) alongside having multiple viable sets,(AC) make it very easy to fit into onto most teams. Skuntank's fantastic typing makes it one of the best Pursuit trappers and most reliable checks to various Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokemon such as non-Barrier Musharna (RC) Bronzor, non-Barrier Musharna,(AC) and Jellicent in the tier. Skuntank's ability to run multiple viable sets makes it difficult to predict at team preview and allows it to easily fit a team's(apostrophe) needs; Choice Band sets can trade some reliability due to Choice locking for the ability to more reliably Pursuit trap trapping Jellicent and Metang (RC) and revenge kill killing Pokemon such as Simisear and Stoutland at higher Hp HP, while Choice Scarf sets can instead let Skuntank more reliably check faster Pokeon Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Oricorio-E, and Simisear. Furthermore, Skuntank can choose to run special attacking sets that help to threaten switch-ins(AH) such as Mudsdale and Ferroseed more effectively and break through defensive walls such as Torterra and Audino with Acid Spray and Taunt,(AC) respectively. Skuntank's ability Aftermath also allows it to support its teammates by trading itself to chip physical attackers that use contact moves such as Primeape, Stoutland, Crabominable, and Dodrio, and,(AC) if holding a Rocky Helmet,(AC) Aftermath allows it to remove considerable amounts of HP when being sacrificed, allowing Skuntank to letting it provide valuable support and momentum even when it is no longer useful during a match. Skuntank is,(AC) however,(AC) held back by its overall average stats, facing competition from Pursuit trappers such as Stoutland and Absol that are generally stronger, and struggling to switch repeatedly into Pokemon it checks such as Haunter and Musharna due to average bulk (implied when you say its stats are overall average). Furthermore, its average attacking stats make it unreliable at revenge killing higher HP targets and causes cause it to struggle greatly against common physical walls such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Gurdurr (RC) while Skuntank.(AP) It also faces competition as a revenge killer from Kangaskhan due to its double priority, stronger STAB move in Double-Edge(AH), and better coverage in Earthquake. Skuntank is also held back as a Defogger by its poor matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra and its lack of reliable recovery, meaning it can struggle to support teams that are particularly vulnerable to Stealth Rock compared to other options such as Rotom-F, Swanna, and Lurantis that have better matchups versus the afforementioned aforementioned setters (RC) and reliable recovery for the latter two.

Moves

Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark-weak(AH) Pokemon such as Haunter and Bronzor, as well as Cryogonal and weakened Jellicent. Sucker Punch allows Skuntank to revenge kill faster threats such as Alolan Raichu, as well as Dodrio and Ludicolo after chip damage. Taunt is an alternative choice if another If another Pokemon on Skuntank's team has Defog or Rapid Spin, allowing Taunt lets it to prevent Pokemon such as Regirock and Ferroseed and from setting up Stealth Rock (RC) and prevent foes such as Victreebel and non-Scald Jellicent from freely healing against or statusing Skuntank it.(flow) Toxic is an option to help Skuntank punish switch-ins(AH) such as Regirock, Mudsdale, and Torterra, but it lacks the utility and team support that Defog and Taunt otherwise provide.

Set Details
========

Aftermath is the ability of choice, allowing allows Skuntank to punish Pokemon such as Primeape and Dodrio for KOing it with a contact move (RC) and can be used in conjunction with Sucker Punch to more reliably revenge kill such Pokemon by increasing the potential damage. Rocky Helmet allows Skuntank to punish contact moves such as Kangaskhan's Fake Out and Primeape's U-turn, and it pairs well with Aftermath by removing a considerable amount of HP from such Pokemon when Skuntank is KOd KOed. Black Sludge is an alternative that offers Skuntank a passive form of recovery, allowing letting it to more reliably use Defog and Pursuit trap targets. Black Glasses is another alternative that increases the power of Skuntank's Pursuit and Sucker Punch, allowing it to revenge kill Pokemon such as Simisear from higher HP and pressure Bronzor and Musharna more.

Usage Tips
========

Skuntank can make use of Sucker Punch to revenge kill weakened,(AC) faster threats such as Ludicolo under Rain rain, Dodrio, and Simisear (RC) or try and Pursuit trap them when switching they switch out under the threat of Sucker Punch. Skuntank should watch out when using Sucker Punch against Oricorio-G, Simisear, and Alolan Raichu,(AC) however, if it is not yet known whether they are running Substitute. In matchups where Skuntank is necessary to Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Haunter and Future Sight Musharna, Skuntank it should try and preserve its HP as much as possible (RC) to ensure that it has enough HP to survive a hit from such Pokemon if they stay in. If Skuntank's running Rocky Helmet (RC) when and low on HP or no longer useful in a match, Skuntank it can be brought in on physical attackers such as Dodrio, Stoutland, Gurdurr, and Crabominable in order to deal a considerable amount of recoil to the opponent foe through the combination of Aftermath and Rocky Helmet damage (RC) and offer a safe switch in to a teammate, although Skuntank should only attempt this versus Gurdurr if it the former (possible ambiguity with respect to what "it" refers to) is at very low HP due to Drain Punch. If running Defog, as since Skuntank does not have a good matchup versus common Stealth Rock setters such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Torterra, it should primarily attempt to remove entry hazards on Pokemon that it can force out or is not threatened by such as Musharna, Clefairy, Sableye, and Cryogonal. If running Taunt, Skuntank can more readily Pursuit trap targets such as Victreebel and Jellicent for its teammates (RC) by preventing Victreebel from staying in and using Strength Sap (RC) and preventing Jellicent from using Recover or Will-O-Wisp;(comma -> semicolon) however,(AC) Skuntank will need to be brought in safely or by a double switch (implied as a possibility when you say it should be brought in safely) if it does not want to risk being Burned burned, and it must watch out for Scald variants of Jellicent.

Team Options
========

Water- and Grass-types such as Jellicent and Victreebel can help threaten Mudsdale and Regirock, which can both set Stealth Rock against and wall Skuntank. Victreebel can also help deal with Gurdurr (RC) and appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal and Musharna for it. Torterra is another option that can also help threaten them Mudsdale and Regirock (RC) while being able to provide Stealth Rock support or a win condition potential wincon with Rock Polish, and it also appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping these targets. Teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal can help check Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G for Skuntank, with Regirock also helping to check Kangaskhan and providing Stealth Rock support (RC) and Cryogonal helping Skuntank check Victreebel and Jellicent (RC) while allowing it to run Taunt or Toxic instead of Defog. Fighting-type Pokemon such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank being able to Pursuit trap Future Sight Musharna (RC) and,(AC) if running Taunt, Victreebel (RC) for them. In return, they are able to pressure Regirock and Alolan Sandslash for Skuntank, while Primeape can provide Skuntank with free opportunities to Pursuit targets such as Jellicent through U-turn. Pokemon walled by Bronzor,(AC) such as Aurorus, Alolan Sandslash, Musharna, and Kangaskhan,(AC) appreciate Skuntank's Pursuit Trapping trapping. Aurorus can also help to pressure Mudsdale for Skuntank (RC) and appreciates Skuntank's support in removing or preventing Stealth Rock from setters such as Bronzor and Regirock, while Musharna can offer Future Sight support to help pressure switch-ins(AH) such as Mudsdale and Regirock (RC) and help to check Gurdurr.

Moves
========

Pursuit allows Skuntank to trap Dark-weak(AH) Pokemon such as Musharna, Bronzor, Jellicent, and Haunter (RC) and weakened,(AC) slower Pokemon such as Stoutland, Victreebel, and Lanturn. Crunch offers Skuntank a reliable Dark-type STAB move, allowing it to more reliably threaten targets such as Musharna and Metang at high HP (RC, this information is basically conveyed by the second phrase you have) 2HKOing physically defensive sets of both Pokemon, although Skuntank should watch out for Earthquake from Metang.

Set Details
========

Choice Band provides Skuntank with greatly increased damage potential on its moves, allowing it to be a more potent Pursuit trapper and revenge killer. This in particular It also allows it Skuntank to 2HKO Calm Mind Musharna with Crunch (RC) and OHKO Abomasnow with Poison Jab. Maximum Speed with a Jolly Nature nature is preferred to allow Skuntank to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Jolly Absol, noteably allowing notably letting Skuntank to revenge kill the latter after Stealth Rock damage. An Adamant Nature nature can be ran instead for a better damage output, allowing Skuntank to better punish switch-ins(AH) such as Mudsdale more and to more reliably Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Jellicent and Metang (RC) while guaranteeing that Skuntank can OHKO Silvally-Fairy with Poison Jab.

Usage Tips
========

Thanks to the increased damage output provided by Choice Band and threat of Choice Band-boosted Crunch, Skuntank is able to more reliably Pursuit trap threats such as Metang, Jellicent, and Victreebel that it would struggle with otherwise (RC) due to the threat of a Choice Band boosted Crunch. Skuntank should however still be careful when attempting this and should not attempt to switch in versus the former two or a predicted Strength Sap from Victreebel, due to the risk of an Earthquake or Will-O-Wisp if predicted. For instance, locking into Sucker Punch allows for free setup from Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Omastar, and Musharna (RC) and is especially dangerous if Substitute users such as Combusken or and Alolan Raichu are present. Locking into Pursuit can also offer Pokemon such as Carracosta and Oricorio-E free setup opportunities (RC) while giving powerful wallbreakers such as Stoutland and Drampa free turns. While not as dangerous as the previous two, locking into Poison Jab can instead offer free turns to Steel-types such as Aggron, Alolan Sandslash, and Ferroseed, the latter of which can abuse take advantage of any move Skuntank locks into.

Team Options
========

Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mudsale Mudsdale, Regirock, and Gurdurr are capable of consistantly consistently walling Choice Band Skuntank. Teammates such as Victreebel, Jellicent, and Simisear can help break these Pokemon for Skuntank (RC) and,(AC) in return,(AC) Victreebel appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal, Musharna, and Oricorio-G, while Choice Specs Simisear appreciate appreciates Jellicent being Pursuit trapped. Pivots such as Lanturn and Eelektross are able to bring Skuntank in on Pokemon such as Victreebel, Cryogonal,(AC) and Musharna that it can Pursuit trap. Lycanroc is a more offensive option that can also help to revenge kill these Pokemon as well as Turtunator Turtonator and Simisear that attempt to set up on Skuntank, although it will need some chip damage on Turtonator first. Musharna pairs excellently with Choice Band Skuntank, as Skuntank is able to Pursuit trap problematic Pokemon such as Bronzor, Haunter, and Metang for Musharna, while Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help punish switch-ins(AH) to Skuntank such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Regirock (RC) and help to check Gurdurr for Skuntank. Teammates such as Alolan Sandslash and Primeape appreciate Skuntank's ability to Pursuit trap Jellicent, enabling Alolan Sandslash to more easily remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin or break through the opposing team with Swords Dance. Primeape in particular is able to invite invites Jellicent in and can use U-turn against it, bringing Skuntank in safely without risk of being Burned burned.

Moves

Punishment is an alternative option to Defog (RC) that allows Skuntank to more easily beat setup(spacing) sweepers such as Oricorio-E, Musharna, Turtonator, and Simisear. Memento is another option that allows Skuntank to sacrifice itself to offer a setup opportunity to one of its teammates late-game (RC) while providing free momentum;(comma -> semicolon) however,(AC) it is not as reliable when Regirock or Carbink are present (RC) due to Clear Body blocking the stat drops while Skuntank still faints (borders on dex info I feel + the reader probably knows that Memento does). Toxic can instead be run to cripple switch-ins(AH) such as Mudsdale and Regirock (RC) but is more situational, especially in matchups against Pokemon such as Qwilfish, and can be dangerous to lock into if predicted.

Set Details
========

While a Jolly Nature nature is usually preferred for being able to outspeed outspeeding +2 Omastar, an Adamant Nature nature can instead be ran to allow Skuntank to do more damage, notably guaranteeing that Skuntank KOs KOes offensive Oricorio-G from full HP (RC) and bulky Oricorio-G after Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========

Choice Scarf Skuntank should be careful about what move it locks itself into, as locking into Pursuit could provide free opportunities for wallbreakers such as Drampa, Aurorus, and Crabominable or setup(spacing) sweepers such as Carracosta and Oricorio-E;(comma -> semicolon) and you should therefore,(AC) you should carefully consider this when clicking using Pursuit. Locking into Defog is a very risky,(AC) last resort option that leaves Skuntank wide open, and it should only be done when absolutely necessary. Thanks to the increased Speed from its Choice Scarf, Skuntank can be used to Pursuit trap faster,(AC) Dark-weak(AH) Pokemon such as Alolan Raichu and Jynx that could otherwise KO Skuntank or put Skuntank it to sleep first, as well as weakened,(AC) fast threats such as Simisear, Lycanroc, Oricorio-E, and Swanna. Skuntank should be wary about attempting this versus the latter two Pokemon if it has not yet revealed that it is a Choice Scarf set,(AC) as they may attempt to heal with Roost predicting a Sucker Punch. If running Punishment, Skuntank can also aim to use it versus Pokemon such as Carracosta, Calm Mind Oricorio-E, and Nasty Plot Simisear if they are already chipped;(comma -> semicolon) however,(AC) it Skuntank should be careful not to reveal that it is a Choice Scarf variant (RC) or that it is running Punishment (RC) if attempting to do this (RC) in order to prevent the opponent swapping out and using Skuntank for free turns due to Punishment's low base low-Base power.

Team Options
========

Pivots such as Silvally-Fairy, Lanturn, and Rotom-F can help Skuntank perform its roles more reliably despite its average defensive stats. Swords Dance Silvally-Fairy can help to put pressure on the physically defensive Pokemon Skuntank struggles with such as Mudsdale and Gurdurr (RC) while being able to pivot Skuntank in on Bronzor with U-turn so that it can be Pursuit trapped, allowing Silvally-Fairy to more reliably clean late-game(AH). Lanturn can instead offer Heal Bell support, allowing Skuntank to more readily attempt to Pursuit trap Jellicent with less fear of being burned, and,(AC) if Skuntank is running Punishment, Lanturn can pivot into Calm Mind Oricorio-E and safely bring Skuntank in against it with Volt Switch. Rotom-F can help to break Mudsale Mudsdale and Torterra for Skuntank (RC) and offer Defog support so that Skuntank can run a different move such as Punishment or Memento. Gurdurr is able to switch into Skuntank fairly safely and use it as setup fodder, and therefore so reliable checks such as Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G are helpful teammates for Skuntank. While it can't deal with Gurdurr well, Jellicent is another option that can deal well with effectively handle Choice Scarf Primeape and isn't weak to Stealth Rock, which is especially useful due to Choice Scarf Primeape outspeeding Skuntank as a Choice Scarf user. In return, these Pokemon appreciate Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal (RC) and,(AC) in non-Taunt Oricorio-E's case,(AC) also Bronzor in Oricorio-E's case if not running Taunt. Teammates such as Ludicolo and Abomasnow can help pressure Torterra, Mudsdale, and Regirock for Skuntank, helping to create situations where Skuntank can potentially clean up during the late-game(AH). Ludicolo can also offer an additional late-game win condition sweeper (RC) and appreciates Memento support if Skuntank is running it, while Abomasnow appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor (RC) and can bluff a Choice Scarf set at team preview in order (realistically you'd want to bluff that set throughout the game) to help Skuntank surprise foes such as Oricorio-G. Fighting-types such as Gurdurr, Primeape, and Combusken appreciate Skuntank's support in Pursuit trapping Pokemon such as Musharna and Alolan Raichu. Gurdurr can in return help to check Regirock and Mudsdale for Skuntank (RC) and appreciates Skuntank's support against Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G, while Combusken can help patch up Skuntank's below-average(AH) speed Speed for a Choice Scarf user with Speed Boost and help to break Pokemon such as Regirock and Torterra for Skuntank with a special attacking set.(comma -> period) while Alternatively,(AC) Swords Dance Combusken sets appreciate Memento support from Skuntank in order to more reliably set up late-game. Setup(spacing) sweepers such as Carracosta, Omastar, and Rock Polish Torterra can help break through problematic Pokemon for Skuntank such as Mudsdale and Regirock, with Torterra in particular highly appreciating Skuntank Pursuit trapping Bronzor. All three can also take advantage of Memento support to set up more easily and become harder to revenge kill.

Moves
========

Acid Spray allows Skuntank to pressure usual switch-ins(AH) to other Skuntank sets such as Mudsdale, Torterra, Qwilfish, and Gurdurr, putting the former two in particular into range of Skuntank's Z-move Z-Move. Sludge Bomb is an alternative that allows Skuntank to lets Skuntank more immediately threaten Silvally-Fairy and Gurdurr (RC) and attempt to Poison poison switch-ins(AH) such as Regirock that Acid Spray cannot affect due to Clear Body. Taunt allows Skuntank to prevent entry hazard setters such as Regirock and Carbink,(AC) which otherwise wall Skuntank it,(AC) from setting up Stealth Rock (RC) and,(AC) in conjunction with Acid Spray,(AC) allows Skuntank to break through Audino. Fire Blast is an alternative that allows lets Skuntank to OHKO Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash. It also allows Skuntank to do comparable (comparable to what? do you mean more damage to?) damage versus Torterra without using its Z-move Z-Move and lets it offensively check Victreebel.

Set Details
========

Darkinium Z provides Skuntank with a powerful nuke, which it can take advantage of in combination with Acid Spray to KO Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Torterra. Black Sludge is an alternative if another member of Skuntank's team has a Z-Crystal, providing it with a passive form of recovery and allowing it to use Defog more reliably. Maximum Speed investment with a Timid Nature nature allows Skuntank to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Jolly Absol;(comma -> semicolon) however,(AC) a Modest Nature nature can be run for a higher damage output, allowing Skuntank to do more chip damage to Pokemon such as Gurdurr and Regirock on the switch in.

Usage Tips
========

Skuntank can aim to use Acid Spray during the early- and mid-game on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Victreebel and Jellicent to punish switch-ins(AH) such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Eelektross. If Regirock or Carbink are present,(AC) however, Skuntank should only ever do this once they have been crippled or removed (RC) due to Clear Body preventing Special Defence Defense drops (RC) and should instead either use Taunt on the switch or double switch into a Pokemon that can pressure them. However (RC) Skuntank should be careful about when it uses its Z-Move, as this is usually a very obvious move after Skuntank has used Acid Spray versus a Pokemon such as Mudsdale, and it may be useless if the opponent switches out. If another Pokemon such as Cryogonal or Lanturn is present that may attempt to switch into the Z-Move is present, Skuntank should ideally wait until they are removed or in range of the Z-Move (RC) and focus more on using Dark Pulse when predicting Mudsdale to switch in. Skuntank should prioritise prioritize using Defog on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Jellicent, Musharna, and Bronzor. If Skuntank is running Taunt, it can more freely use Defog while Regirock is still healthy (RC) and use Taunt on it after it switches into Skuntank, although it must watch out for Regirock running Earthquake. Skuntank should,(AC) however,(AC) prioritise prioritize attacking Mudsdale if expecting it to come in (RC) due to being unable to because Skuntank can't prevent it from setting Stealth Rock back up. If running Taunt, Skuntank can aim to use it when predicting a Pokemon such as Regirock or Carbink to switch in, to prevent preventing them setting up Stealth Rock. Skuntank can also aim to use it versus setup(spacing) sweepers such as Turtonator, Omastar, and Carracosta that attempt to set up on Skuntank. If running Fire Blast, Skuntank should be careful not to reveal that Skuntank is running a special set early in the match if teammates that appreciate Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash being removed are present, as the opponent will likely anticipate that you are running Fire Blast after this.

Team Options
========

Pokemon such as Lycanroc and Stoutland appreciate Skuntank weakening Mudsdale and Gurdurr, allowing them to more easily break the enemy team. Lycanroc in particular can help to check problematic special walls such as Articuno and Cryogonal (RC) as well as Calm Mind Oricorio-E,(AC) which can set up on Skuntank, while Skuntank appreciates Stoutland wearing down a shared check in Regirock, allowing it to more easily keep entry hazards off the field. Pokemon such as Golurk, Victreebel, and Eelektross that can pressure Regirock and Carbink make for good teammates;(comma -> semicolon) with Golurk being able to can set Stealth Rock;(comma -> semicolon) Victreebel also being able to presure can pressure Gurdurr and Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move (RC) as well as helping to help wear down Eelektross and check Assault Vest Hitmonchan;(comma -> semicolon) and Eelektross being able to can check Cryogonal with Drain Punch,(AC) and also wear down Mudsdale so that Skuntank can save its Z-Move, and bring Skuntank in on Pokemon such as Musharna and Audino that it can help break. Teammates such as Regirock and Metang can help to consistently check Silvally-Fairy, making up for Skuntank's inability to reliably pressure it when running Acid Spray. They can also help to pressure special walls such as Articuno and Cryogonal for Skuntank (RC) and offer Stealth Rock support;(comma -> semicolon) and in return,(AC) they appreciate Skuntank pressuring Jellicent, Victreebel, and Sableye for them. Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G are able to can help check Gurdurr for Skuntank (RC) and appreciate Skuntank being able to remove specially defensive Alolan Sandslash with Fire Blast. Taunt Skuntank sets can instead help to pressure Audino for them (RC) and appreciate their help dealing with Victreebel. Skuntank also appreciates Oricorio-E being able to Poison poison its checks such as Regirock, Lanturn, and Eelektross with Toxic. Fighting-types such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate Skuntank taking on Jellicent, Musharna, and Victreebel for them. Primeape and Skuntank appreciate each other wearing down shared checks such as Mudsdale and Gurdurr, while Primeape and Gurdurr can help to pressure Regirock and Carbink (RC) and specially defensive Pokemon such as Lanturn and Eelektross (RC) for Skuntank. If Skuntank's running Fire Blast, Pokemon such as Kangaskhan, Aurorus, and Musharna appreciate Skuntank it being able to lure in and KO Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash, especially specially defensive variants of the latter. In return, Aurorus is able to help pressure Mudsdale, Regirock,(AC) and Torterra for Skuntank, Kangaskhan can help pressure Pokemon such as Cryogonal and Calm Mind Oricorio-E, and Musharna can provide Future Sight support to help chip switch-ins(AH) to Skuntank such as Regirock and Carbink (RC) and provide an answer to specially defensive Pokemon that Skuntank struggles with such as Assault Vest Hitmonchan and Eelektross.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Darknium Darkinium Z is an option on physical attacking Skuntank that allows Skuntank it to use a powerful,(AC) Dark-type STAB attack versus Pokemon that could otherwise set up on it, such as Calm Mind Musharna, and allows gives it a one time opportunity to do large damage to single-use nuke for threats such as Aurorus and Stoutland. This comes at the cost of a teammate being able to use a Z-move Z-Move,(AC) however, and is hard to justify over more useful items such as Rocky Helmet and Black Sludge. Skuntank can also opt to run Memento when running with Darkinium Z, to allow letting it to fully heal a teammate when it is no longer useful in a match and offer provide free setup(spacing) opportunities. Iapapa Berry is also an option on Skuntank to provide more longevity, however but the healing provided by Black Sludge is more consistent due to the chance that Skuntank will not be able to activate its Iapapa Berry. Crunch is an option on physical attacking Skuntank over Defog or Taunt to allow it to more directly threaten Pokemon such as Metang and Musharna (RC) however but comes at the cost of a utility move or the ability to revenge kill faster Pokemon such as Dodrio and Simisear. Skuntank can also opt to run Taunt and Toxic together on its Physical physical set, allowing it to spread Poisons poison for teammates such as Substitute + Protect Combusken and Calm Mind Musharna (RC) while preventing Pokemon such as Lanturn and Audino from using Heal Bell;(comma -> semicolon) however,(AC) this comes at the cost of one of Skuntank's attacking moves. Skuntank can also choose to run a set consisting of both Substitute and Toxic, allowing it to punish Pokemon such as Jellicent and Victreebel for switching out (RC) or using Strength Sap (RC) and allowing it to Toxic stall wear down Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Regirock to wear them down (RC) with Toxic poison.(AP) this This,(AC) however,(AC) comes at the cost of preventing Skuntank from running a utility move such as Taunt or Defog (RC) and one of its attacking moves. Fire Blast is an option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to threaten Alolan Sandslash and Ferroseed, however although Skuntank cannot outspeed offensive Alolan Sandslash sets in Hail hail,(AC) and Fire Blast is heavily prediction reliant (RC) and very weak against targets not 4x weak to Fire. Explosion is another option on Choice Scarf Skuntank that allows it to generate momentum and either heavily chip defensive Pokemon such as Mudsdale for a setup(spacing) sweeper or remove an offensive threat such as Oricorio-E or Rotom-F in the process. Memento's ability to offer easier setup(spacing) opportunities for win conditions sweepers such as Omastar is,(AC) however,(AC) generally more useful during the late-game.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-Types Ground-types**: Mudsdale and Torterra are capable of consistently switching into Skuntank's attacks due to their good bulk, can OHKO Skuntank in return with Earthquake, and can both consistently set up Stealth Rock versus teams where Skuntank is running Defog. They must,(AC) however,(AC) both watch out versus special Skuntank, which can KO them if they switch in on Acid Spray. More niche Ground-type options such as Gastrodon and Golurk can also threaten Skuntank, although Golurk cannot switch into Skuntank.

**Defensive Pokemon**: Physically defensive Pokemon such as Regirock, Gurdurr, and Ferroseed are capable of consistently switching into and walling physical Skuntank sets, and using it as a free opportunity to set entry hazards or,(AC) in Gurdurr's case, set up with Bulk Up, although Ferroseed must watch out for Taunt.

**Faster Pokemon**: Due to Skuntank's average speed Speed stat, it is outsped and revenge killed by faster Pokemon such as Swanna, Simisear,(AC) and Rotom-F (RC) due to Sucker Punch requiring considerable chip damage to KO them (RC) and the risk of Will-O-Wisp from Rotom-F. Skuntank also suffers from being slower than Pokemon such as Oricorio-G and Alolan Raichu that it must rely on Sucker Punch to deal with, allowing them to potentially outplay this with moves such as Roost or and Substitute, which is an especially noticeable issue for Choice Band variants. While Choice Scarf sets are capable of outspeeding such Pokemon, as well as other Pokemon it can attempt to revenge kill such as Silvally-Fairy, they also suffer from being slower than common scarfers Choice Scarf users such as Primeape and Dodrio (RC) as well as Alolan Sandslash under Hail hail.

**Setup Sweepers**: Due to Skuntank's mediocre damage output, setup(spacing) sweepers such as Carracosta, Turtonator, and Gurdurr can take advantage of it for free setup(spacing) opportunities, however although they must watch out for sets running Taunt. Furthermore, Skuntank's reliance on Sucker Punch to revenge kill faster threats can allow Substitute users such as Alolan Raichu and Jynx to outplay it (RC) and potentially use it for free setup(spacing) opportunities.(comma -> period) while Choiced Additionally, Choice item sets can be scouted with such moves (RC) and can be taken advantage by Pokemon such as Oricorio-E, Oricorio-G, and Torterra for free setup(spacing) if Skuntank locks into, or has always is already locked into, into Sucker Punch (RC) or Pursuit. Many of these Pokemon,(AC) however,(AC) must watch out for Choice Scarf sets running Punishment, which can revenge kill them after they set up.

[OVERVIEW]

Skuntank stands out as one of the most versatile Pokemon in PU, being able to serve as a revenge killer and Pursuit trapper while also possessing strong utility options such as Defog and Taunt; these traits, alongside having multiple viable sets, make it very easy to fit onto most teams. Skuntank's fantastic typing makes it one of the best Pursuit trappers and most reliable checks to various Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokemon such as Bronzor, non-Barrier Musharna, and Jellicent in the tier, (comma) Skuntank's while its ability to run multiple viable sets makes it difficult to predict at Team Preview and allows it to easily fit a team's needs; Choice Band sets can trade some reliability due to Choice locking for more reliably Pursuit trapping Jellicent and Metang and revenge killing Pokemon such as Simisear and Stoutland at higher HP, while Choice Scarf sets can instead let Skuntank more reliably check faster Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Oricorio-E, and Simisear. Furthermore, Skuntank can choose to run specially attacking sets that help threaten switch-ins such as Mudsdale and Ferroseed more effectively and break through walls such as Torterra and Audino with moves like Acid Spray and Taunt, respectively. Skuntank's ability Aftermath also allows it to support its teammates by trading itself to chip physical attackers that use contact moves such as Primeape, Stoutland, Crabominable, and Dodrio, and, especially if holding a Rocky Helmet, Aftermath allows it to remove considerable amounts of HP when being sacrificed, letting it provide valuable support and momentum even when it is no longer useful. Skuntank is, however, held back by its overall average stats, facing competition from generally stronger Pursuit trappers such as Stoutland and Absol that are generally stronger, and struggling to switch repeatedly into Pokemon it checks such as Haunter and Musharna. Furthermore, its average attacking stats make it unreliable at revenge killing higher HP targets and cause it to struggle greatly against common physical walls such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Gurdurr. It also faces competition as a revenge killer from Kangaskhan due to its the latter's double priority, stronger STAB move in Double-Edge, and better coverage in Earthquake.

Moves
========

If another Pokemon on Skuntank's team has Defog or Rapid Spin, Taunt lets it can be used to prevent Pokemon such as Regirock and Ferroseed from setting up Stealth Rock and foes such as Victreebel and non-Scald Jellicent from freely healing against or statusing it. Toxic is an option to help Skuntank punish switch-ins such as Regirock, Mudsdale, and Torterra, but it lacks the utility and team support that Defog and Taunt otherwise provide.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Skuntank can make use of Sucker Punch to revenge kill weakened, faster threats such as Ludicolo under rain, Dodrio, and Simisear or try and to Pursuit trap them when they switch out under the threat of Sucker Punch. Skuntank should watch out when using Sucker Punch against Oricorio-G, Simisear, and Alolan Raichu, however, if it is not yet known whether they are running Substitute. In matchups where Skuntank is necessary to Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Haunter and Future Sight Musharna, it should try and to preserve its HP as much as possible to ensure it has enough HP to survive a hit from such Pokemon if they stay in.

========

Torterra can also help threaten Mudsdale and Regirock while being able to provide Stealth Rock support or a potential wincon with Rock Polish, and it also appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping these the aforementioned targets.

Moves
========

Set Details
========

An Adamant nature can be ran run instead for better damage output, allowing Skuntank to better punish switch-ins such as Mudsdale and more reliably Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Jellicent and Metang while guaranteeing that Skuntank can OHKO Silvally-Fairy with Poison Jab.

Usage Tips
========

For instance, locking into Sucker Punch allows for free setup from Pokemon such as Oricorio-G, Omastar, and Musharna to set up for free and is especially dangerous if Substitute users such as Combusken and Alolan Raichu are present.

========

Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mudsdale, Regirock, and Gurdurr are capable of consistently walling Choice Band Skuntank. Teammates such as Victreebel, Jellicent, and Simisear can help break these Pokemon; (SC) and, in return, Victreebel appreciates Skuntank Pursuit trapping Cryogonal, Musharna, and Oricorio-G, while Choice Specs Simisear appreciates Jellicent being Pursuit trapped. Teammates such as Regirock and Cryogonal can check Pokemon such as Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G that may attempt to set up on it Skuntank after locking into an unfavorable move.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Set Details
========

While a Jolly nature is usually preferred for outspeeding +2 Omastar, an Adamant nature can instead be ran run to allow Skuntank to do more damage, notably guaranteeing that Skuntank KOes offensive Oricorio-G from full HP and bulky Oricorio-G after Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========

Locking into Defog is a very risky, last-resort (AH) option that leaves Skuntank wide open, and it should only be done when absolutely necessary. If running Punishment, Skuntank can aim to use it versus Pokemon such as Carracosta, Calm Mind Oricorio-E, and Nasty Plot Simisear if they are already chipped worn down; however, Skuntank should be careful not to reveal that it is a Choice Scarf variant or that it is running Punishment if attempting to do this to prevent the opponent swapping out and using Skuntank for free turns due to Punishment's low natural (RH) Base power.

Team Options
========

Lanturn can instead offer Heal Bell support, allowing Skuntank to attempt to Pursuit trap Jellicent with less fear of being burned, and,(AC) if Skuntank is running Punishment, Lanturn can pivot into Calm Mind Oricorio-E and safely bring Skuntank in against it with Volt Switch. Gurdurr can in return help check Regirock and Mudsdale and appreciates Skuntank's support against Oricorio-E and Oricorio-G, while Combusken can help patch up Skuntank's below-average Speed for a Choice Scarf user with Speed Boost and help break Pokemon such as Regirock and Torterra with a special attacking set.(space)Alternatively, Swords Dance Combusken sets appreciate Memento support from Skuntank to more reliably set up late-game.

Moves
========

Set Details
========

Darkinium Z provides Skuntank with a powerful nuke, which that it can take advantage of in combination with Acid Spray to KO Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Torterra.

Usage Tips
========

Skuntank can aim to use Acid Spray early- and mid-game on switches it forces versus Pokemon such as Victreebel and Jellicent to punish switch-ins such as Mudsdale, Gurdurr, and Eelektross. If Regirock or Carbink are is present, however, Skuntank should only ever do this once they have been crippled or removed due to Clear Body preventing Special Defense drops and should instead either use Taunt on the switch or double switch into to a Pokemon that can pressure them. Skuntank can also aim to use it versus setup sweepers such as Turtonator, Omastar, and Carracosta that attempt to set up on Skuntank. If running Fire Blast, be careful not to reveal that Skuntank is running a special set early in the match if teammates that appreciate Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash being removed are present, as the opponent will likely anticipate that you are running Fire Blast after this.

Team Options
========

Pokemon such as Lycanroc and Stoutland appreciate Skuntank weakening Mudsdale and Gurdurr, allowing them to more easily break the enemy team. Lycanroc in particular can help check problematic special walls such as Articuno and Cryogonal as well as Calm Mind Oricorio-E, which can set up on Skuntank, while Skuntank appreciates Stoutland wearing down a shared check in Regirock, allowing it to more easily keep entry hazards off the field. Skuntank also appreciates Oricorio-E being able to poison its checks such as Regirock, Lanturn, and Eelektross with Toxic. Fighting-types such as Primeape and Gurdurr appreciate (major repetition of appreciate, swap out a couple for enjoy / other synonyms) Skuntank taking on Jellicent, Musharna, and Victreebel. Primeape and Skuntank appreciate each other wearing down shared checks such as Mudsdale and Gurdurr, while Primeape and Gurdurr can help pressure Regirock and Carbink and specially defensive Pokemon such as Lanturn and Eelektross. If Skuntank is running Fire Blast, Pokemon such as Kangaskhan, Aurorus, and Musharna appreciate it being able enjoy its ability to lure in and KO Ferroseed and Alolan Sandslash, especially specially defensive variants of the latter.

Other Options
=============

Darkinium Z is an option on physical Skuntank that allows it to use a powerful (RC) Dark-type STAB attack versus Pokemon that could otherwise set up on it, such as Calm Mind Musharna, and gives it a single-use nuke for threats such as Aurorus and Stoutland. Skuntank can choose to run a set consisting of with both Substitute and Toxic, allowing it to punish Pokemon such as Jellicent and Victreebel for switching out or using Strength Sap and allowing it to wear down Pokemon such as Mudsdale and Regirock with Toxic poison.

===================

**Faster Pokemon**: Due to Skuntank's average Speed stat, it is outsped and revenge killed by faster Pokemon such as Swanna, Simisear, and Rotom-F due to Sucker Punch's inability requiring considerable chip damage to KO them without considerable chip damage and the risk of Will-O-Wisp from Rotom-F.
