Earthquake is your primary stab option that lets you deal with the Electric types and physically frail pokemon. Rock Slide gives you an option to hit the relevant Ground Immune Pokemon of Doduo and Gastly. Substitute allows you to fish for paralysis and activate your own Sitrus Berry, which then allows you to use Thief to steal your opponent's Sitrus in situations where you cannot switch due to trapping abilities. Thief is most prominently used vs Porygon, where you can substitute down to below 50% to eat your own berry, and then steal any Porygon trying to counter-trap with trace and disable its ability to recycle its berry.

**Counter-trappers** Porygon and Trapinch are by far the most common response to Diglett’s shenanigans. Either via tracing Diglett’s arena trap or simply by naturally getting the ability, Porygon and Trapinch are able to flex their physical bulk to live an attack and KO it in return. Diglett can use Thief to prevent Porygon from using recycle, but that is generally all you can do.
**Water and Grass Types**: While not as immediately threatening as counter trapper, Pokemon like Wailmer and Cacnea can force Diglett out with the threat of their super effective stab while Earthquake fails to pose a significant threat.
