Gm, I am here to bring you all the recent tiering survey results! This time around we had 68 responses which is a pretty big jump from last time so thank you to those of you who took the time to fill it out! As always if you would like to discuss anything about the survey whether it be what you submitted or the results feel free to post in the
Metagame Discussion thread of in the
1v1 Discord.
The results for each question will be shown in three different manners, being a graph for a visual representation of everyone's answers, an average value of everyone's answers, and an average value of the 52 responses from people who met the tour/ladder criteria to be counted as a qualified response.
1. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you enjoy the current metagame? See: do you enjoy playing it? 1 being unenjoyable, 10 being extremely enjoyable.
From the total 68 responses
the average response was 6.55. This means that for the most part people are enjoying the metagame. This was just slightly lower than the previous survey
Of the 52 qualified responses
the average response was 6.69. This means that more experienced players find the metagame a little more enjoyable than the average person, and slightly less than the previous survey
2. On a scale of 1-10, how competitive do you find the current metagame? See: does the better player win more often than not? 1 being uncompetitive, 10 being extremely competitive.
From the total 68 responses
the average response was 7.04. This means that for the most part people find the metagame competitive. This was just slightly higher than the previous survey
Of the 52 qualified responses
the average response was 6.69. This means that more experienced players find the metagame a little less competitive than the average person, and also quite a bit less than the previous survey.
3. Which statement most accurately describes how you feel about Togekiss in SS 1v1?
Of the 68 responses
64.7% does NOT believe that action should be taken place on Togekiss. Of the 68 responses only 24 supported tiering action. While this is a considerable amount, it isn't anywhere close to a majority.
From the 52 qualified responses,
71.1% do NOT believe that action should be taken against Togekiss. This is a considerable amount higher than the general public. For a more specific breakdown of the votes 6 qualified voters said Togekiss is entirely balanced, 31 said it's generally balanced, 14 said it is generally unbalanced, and only 1 supported direct tiering action.
While there's a significant number of people who support action against Togekiss, it is still a far cry from a majority. If you wish to give your opinions on the subject, I once again encourage you to start discussion in the
Metagame Discussion thread of the
1v1 discord.
4. If you could retest any currently banned Pokemon right now, would you?
This question produced somewhat messy results, but hey that's why we're trying new stuff to see where we can improve. From the general results it appears that none of the offered options for a retest have very much support,
with the highest being Necrozma at only 25%. I'd also like to mention that there was 1 vote for Marshadow, 1 vote for Palkia, 3 for Zekrom, 3 for Sableye, 1 for Kyurem-Black, a few people asking for complex bans like Victini without V-create, and 1 for dmax which surprisingly wasn't me and I 100% can get behind (free it cowards).
The results of the qualified responses were roughly the same. Of the responses
16 did not support any retesting (30.7%), 14 supported retesting Necrozma (26.9%), 13 supported retesting Genesect (25%), 11 supporting restesting Victini (21.1%), 10 supported retesting Power Construct (19.2%), and 9 supported retesting Snorlax (17.3%). Similar to the general responses none of these have anywhere near a majority support and as such you shouldn't expect any suspects on previously banned mons anytime soon.
5. Would you support tiering action on any of these lesser used uncompetitive aspects of 1v1?
This question was incredibly contested, with multiple answers coming close to a majority, but none quite receiving one from the general public although Attract seems to be a perfectly even split.
The qualified results have similar responses with
21 responses did not support tiering action on any of the options (40.3%), 21 responses supporting tiering action on King's Rock and Razor Fang (40.3%), 22 responses supporting tiering action on Sand Veil and Snow Cloak (43.3%), and 27 responses supporting tiering action on Attract (51.9%). Something significant from this is that of the qualified responses, a majority support tiering action on Attract.
This was to be expected as lesser used uncompetitive aspects are a constant debate so if you have opinions on the subject please start discussions in the
Metagame Discussion thread of the
1v1 discord. I hate to repeat myself so many times, but it's really the best way to have your voice be heard and attempt to make a difference. I wouldn't expect anything in the immediate future, but these will all be up for discussion for the time being. Additionally, I understand that there were some options such as Quick Draw that people might have preferred to be on the survey. This does not mean that they are not up for discussion and if the community wants the council to look at other aspects the council will.
Open response question notes (yes the council reads these)
- Shoutouts to the 1 person who pointed out the typo! Glad at least someone read the questions
- To those of you who support retesting a mon you weren't around for, trust me there's a very good reason it's banned
- While they seemed somewhat arbitrary, we had the questions about unbans and uncompetitive stuff just to gauge community support. The council likes the current meta, but if they community significantly disagreed we would like to know.
- Someone mentioned fixing how we do samples and made some very good arguments on why! As such we'll be taking a look at how we do them in the future to ensure a more fair process
- hiii Vrji rumia
With these results in mind it looks like various uncompetitive aspects will remain a hot topic for the remainder of the generation. One could argue that this being the main focus is a good thing because it means there aren't any overbearing mons to focus on instead, and any discussion on the topic will be closely followed by the council as they continue to discuss it as well. The council will also be keeping an eye on Togekiss, but seeing the results of the survey it is unlikely that anything will become of it. If you have any questions, recommendations,
or spot any errors feel free to reach out to anyone on the council as well.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the survey. It's really important to me that we stay in touch with you all so those of you who took this seriously are greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to the new generation and what it will bring, but for now we have to make sure we leave SS in as good of a spot as possible and these help make that possible. GN
