It's a relatively pleasant day, sunny without being hot, overcast just enough to prevent the sun glaring in your face. You had come to Professor Birch in Littleroot Town (of the Hoenn region) to pick up a new starter Pokemon, from the [REDACTED] region. However, on your way through Oldale Town, you find that there's police "Do Not Enter" tape around the Pokemon Center, and when you get to the lab in Littleroot, you see Professor Birch looking concerned.

"Hey, there. I would love to give you the starter you came here for, but a man in a football uniform came by and stole all three! I don't have any Pokemon on hand to go get them back, but he ran north, up to Route 103. I'd like you to come with me to try and get them back, if that's okay?"​
 


"Aaaah, the Pokémon! We have to save them! Let's go!"

She then rushed back outside to the quaint pastel yellow scooter motorcycle that she had arrived in.

"Quick, jump on my scooter! Maybe we can catch up to them if they're just running by foot!"
 
"Excellent! Let's get going!"

You ride through Route 101 without issue, and while people's heads turn in Oldale Town, you whizz through there too! However, when you arrive at Route 103, the Pokemon are upset and aggressive; and two Pokemon go to attack you!

Route 103
A small route north of Oldale Town, it's got a calm ocean breeze and salty smell in the air. The grass is tall and everywhere, and there's a few ledges. Overall, a nice and serene place, most of the time.

The motorcycle screeches along the pavement as it slides and spins out of control as the birds flock over them viciously.

But suddenly, a big dinosaur-like mon appears with a red glow, and uses its large body (somewhat unwittingly) to block the vehicle and stop them.

"Thank you! Take care of them Dracovish!! They've gone crazy!!" she then pleaded. "They must've eaten something from some tourist, probably something illegal!!"

And with that, you've fought off the wild Pokemon on Route 103, at a heavy cost. Professor Birch digs through his bag, and pulls out a Potion and an Ether.

"I can't help your fainted Pokemon, but I can heal your Mollux a bit!"

Professor Birch applies an Ether and a Potion to Mollux- Mollux is restored to full HP, and also regains 20 EN.

While he heals your Pokemon, you see an odd path in the trees on the northern part of the Route. When you point it out, Birch nods.

"I've never really seen that path before on this route. It must be where they went!"

He leads you forward, but as you reach the forest edge, you trip- and find a Snowball (as the item)!

 
"Wow, thanks Prof. Birch! I've got to invite you later to a drink or something for this one."

Later on, I trip on a... Snowball! I grab it and carefully wrap it in tissue paper.

"Hey, maybe the cops can get some fingerprints on this later to catch the guy, because maybe he dropped it! Let's keep going!"
 
You continue the path for a couple minutes; a time or two, you nearly lose it, because it's not a very well-tread path, but one of the two of you finds it again quickly each time. A painful thing about the trip is that it's all uphill- but the reason for that becomes apparent shortly, as a cave into the hill appears before you.

"Well, this must be it. I've never explored so far into this forest; I didn't know this cave was here! I'll have to come back after all this!"

You head into the cave, but an issue comes up- light. Birch fishes out his Dexnav and uses it as a flashlight, but a great idea occurs to you- your Mollux can light things up!

The light attracts notice from the cave's denizens, however. Two Pokemon appear to get you off of their turf!


Midforest Cave
A hidden alcove north of Route 103, it seems that the thief fled here- but you're going to have to work to make it to them!
  • If the challenger does not have a non-fainted Fire-type, Electric-type, or another way to light up the cave using a non-fainted Pokemon's biology (such as Solrock spinning to provide light), abilities (such as Illuminate), or moves (such as Tail Glow or Charge) (ref discretion using Bulbapedia, but be loose), the challenger's Pokemon have a flat -10% to Accuracy unless they can be caught in a cave (using this list of caves for ingame).
  • If a #sound move is used, the next battle might become more difficult- prevent Whismur from doing so if you can, with moves such as Throat Chop!
  • Weather cannot be summoned in the cave without the appropriate weather rock.
  • Moves that rely on a source of sunlight, such as Solar Beam or Synthesis, do not have that source of sunlight. Fly, Bounce, and Dive cannot be used Evasively in the small cave. Using Surf can only be done by a Water-type.
