Pokemon count as fictional animals, yes.
Hard truth, I wish Myzo hadn’t switched out songs for this category. I liked the previous submission more. This is an odd song that leaves me confused. The beatboxing obscures the lyrics and harmonies. If there’s some sort of message here, I’m missing it too easily.
This is a jaunty song with a measure of confidence to it, but I definitely wasn’t thinking of Simon and Garfunkel when I made this category. Feels less like getting psyched up and more like reassurance. It’s got that classic Simon and Garfunkel bounciness and those cerebral Simon and Garfunkel lyrics, which saves it from a super low score.
I was worried that South Park had ruined this one for me. It kinda sorta hasn’t, though? Sure, I’m thinking of Stan Marsh’s dad in his underwear as I listen to this, but I’m digging it. The song, not the imagery.
Yeah, maybe South Park has ruined this for me.
The moment you say “children’s show theme song”, I have babysitting flashbacks. This is pretty good, though, if super mellow. Far more relaxing to me than energizing, but it’s a breath of fresh air compared to some other kid show theme songs I know. Not saying which ones, because I like going an entire day without a persistent eye twitch.
This is nice and bouncy. The horns and chanting are a nice touch. It’d probably be more of a generic love song without them, though.
Kinda sorta digging this. I like the vocals and the “bring it on” message, but I think it’d be better if there was some more intensity to the backing. The drop’s good, but the build up to the drop comes on soft when I want it to go a little harder.
Starts like it’s gonna go hard, then pulls back before building up again. Pull back and build up and pull back and build up and never quite get to a point that makes me go “fuck yeah”. Nice, but doesn’t really get me going.
This is strangely catchy. Parts of the backing distract a little from the vocals, but otherwise the backing and the vocals mesh well. Though I feel like Ullar could have submitted Black Skinhead and gotten a higher score. The lyrics are what really catch my interest.
Playing around with the stereo surround, noice. I like the rhythm, but it took me a few plays (and a few days) for it to have more than a tentative hold on my attention.
Nice and quirky. The vocals harmonize and dance around each other in lovely ways. But the tempo was pretty mellow and never picked up the pace when I was expecting it to. This is a good song, I just think it has the potential to be more energetic than it is. Then again, if they’d have to reduce the length of those harmonies for a pluckier tempo… tough choice.
This is hard driving feel good rock. This song has definitely got me jazzed in a jump around, dance like a dork, fist bump the air kind of way. The ending loses steam and feels kinda awkward, though. I think I’d enjoy this more if it cut off at 3:16 instead of slowing down and dragging on.
The drums really carry the energy here. I should be more jazzed about this song, and I don’t get why I’m not. Sweet guitar solo.
As a former orchestra dork, I’m a sucker for some good strings. The banjo and accordion add some nice quirkiness. The instruments definitely carry this song into its ranking, because the energy is pretty laid back.
Nice rhythm, nice harmonies, nice synth, nice and groovy. The energy’s on the mellow side, but it’s got me nodding my head to the beat.
