Project UU Next Best Thing Crown Tundra Edition: Week 52: Slowking | Voting Phase

Toxic Orb Jirachi

Jirachi @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 24 SpD / 232 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Trick
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock / Wish

Normally Jirachi can cripple foes by tricking them a Scarf, so I've taken it a step further and given it the Toxic Orb instead. And by virtue of its Steel-tpying you don't have to try and get the Trick of asap as it will never get poisoned. I personally like the Rocks Jirachi set, so I have used a similar EV spread for this, a bit more speed to make sure of out-pacing Haxorus. Iron Head is there because flinch-hax is a win-con, U-turn for pivot, and then your choice of Rocks if you have none already or Wish if your team requires this support.

Special Attacker + Toxic Protect Rachi

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Aura Sphere
- Toxic
- Protect

This jirachi set uses a combination of psychic and aura sphere to have near perfect coverage while using toxic and protect to wear down checks that otherwise resist the combinations or can stand up like latias, salamence, slowking, victini, and and mew. Protect helps it scout moves like fire blast from mence, helps against choice locked pokemon, gives extra leftovers recovery, and also racks up toxic damage. Max special attack and speed let it hit as hard and let it be as fast as possible.

angels like you (Jirachi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 120 SpD / 136 Spe
Timid Nature
- Iron Head
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect

Wish Jirachi has been called a do-nothing pokemon frequently. Moonblast is something I've been liking on fatter teams to change that. It essentially works the same as Confide Blissey the last generation but trades the guaranteed drop for decent damage. Moonblast's special attack drop can annoy pokemon like Latias, Mew, and Celesteela nicely. Timid lets it do a bit more to pokemon like Crawdaunt and Condeldurr that could otherwise be a nuisance for bulky teams and guarantees an OHKO on mixed offensive sr Kommo-o. The rest is standard to adequately handle LO Latias.

This week's Next Best Thing is...

Week 13: Keldeo

:xy/keldeo:

Taking advantage of Latias's recent UU ban, here comes Keldeo! Its huge Special Attack, great Speed, and powerful STAB moves make it one formidable foe! Secret Sword lets is shred the tier's best special wall in Chansey and its Hydro Pump is just as strong. Coverage moves such as Air Slash and Icy Wind allow Keldeo to face checks such as Tangrowth and Amoonguss. However, Keldeo's special movepool is still very very shallow, and common Pokemon such as Amoonguss and Slowking can handle almost every set very well. How will you explore Keldeo's potential?

Keldeo-Resolute @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 32 Atk / 224 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Work Up
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Poison Jab

A different take from CM Keldeo, as Keldeo has access to Poison Jab+Work Up, enabling it to setup and beat common checks such as Tapu Bulu or Azumarill. You still function primarily the same as CM, though you miss out on last slot options such as sub, airslash, etc. Poison Jab also has the benefit of having the 30% poison chance, enabling you to wear down stuff like Slowking. While it certainly isnt as good as sets like CM+Toxic, Choice Sets, or even Boots+FlipTurn+Toxic, it certainly is a decent next best thing.

Taunt+ Toxic stall breaker

Keldeo @ Leftovers
Timid Nature
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Taunt
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Toxic

Neat little tech that can be used to break stall. Taunt and toxic helps wear down chansey and quaqsire, while scald and secret sword act as attacking options. To be fair it was hard to think of something for keldeo, but this is a somewhat viable set so this is the best I can do.

Keldeo @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Substitute

Substitute Calm Mind Keldeo has seen a weird resurgence lately, mainly in the form of mock "wish killer" builds and picking up wins throughout masters games. Calm Mind Keldeo does a solid job of punishing passive Amoonguss teams and takes advantage of Slowking rarely running Psyshock nowadays. Keldeo in general has gotten better with no Latias, but Sub CM stands out as stuff like Toxic was already crippling Latias. Standard Leftovers lets Keldeo make the most of the special defense boosts and check things throughout the game rather than just go for an end game sweep.

The Sash Endeavor Lead

:ss/Keldeo:
Keldeo @ Focus Sash
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Endeavor
- Aqua Jet
- Secret Sword
- Taunt

So this set is pretty simple - Keldeo is very fast, so you can taunt most things like that are in play. If it's obvious they are going to attack, then you just use Endeavor right away for a surprise DownToOneHP on the enemy right away, then KO them with Aqua Jet. Secret Sword is still here in for standard damage and good coverage against threats like Kyurem, etc., but the Endeavor/Jet strategy is the way to go.

Keldeo @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flip Turn
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Toxic

This set is probably the 4th most known here, but it's not considered standard, so I'm doing it. Keldeo's Speed tier is one of the best in the tier, so even when not predicting a switch, Keldeo will most likely get to Flip Turn out of something like Tapu Bulu and Azumarill. Toxic is there to cripple stuff like Slowking, Chansey, AV Tang, etc. Dual STABs hit very hard, although Amoonguss shits on this set LOL. Having Flip Turn is also nice since you can bluff being Scarf/Specs and surprise the walls above with Toxic. It's different enough from scarf since it doesn't outspeed stuff it otherwise would, like scarf tini, scarf rachi, scarf krook, lycan-d, zeraora, etc.

Sub + CM + Salac

Keldeo-Resolute @ Salac Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Secret Sword
- Surf

This set abuses a switch in like crawdaunt, nidoqueen, and skarmory and uses them as setup fother, It subs then CM's in their face, then you just spam sub until salac range and unleash a +1 secret sword or surfs onto your opponent which are only resisted by a handful of mons. Amoongus, Slowking, and salamence, but you can easily take advantage of them with a partner like Kyurem. Salac lets it to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame and reduces the offensive option of being revenge killed

Keldeo @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Flip Turn
- Scald
- Taunt
- Toxic

This is a supportive Keldeo set that seeks to punish and annoy physical attackers, particularly U-Turners, with its decent physical defensive typing. This Keldeo is capable of spreading burns on physical attackers, preventing setup with Taunt, spreading toxic on things that would otherwise wall it like Blissey and Salamence, and pivoting out of things it can't meaningfully damage (mostly the grasses).

just a suggestion, but i'd opt for scald > hydro, as this keldeo will most likely be playing hit and run, so catching burns on stuff like Amoonguss, or potential pivots like Tapu Bulu, would be more beneficial, as well as having the extra PP, with Scald being a lot more spammable.
