or

Runerigus
Ability: Wandering Spirit
EVs: 248 / 212 Def / 48 Spe
Impish Nature

Runerigus is a defensive check to Tyrantrum. Thanks to key resistances, it is able to take Head Smashes and its main coverage in Close Combat while Wandering Spirit steals the dino's Rock Head, leaving it vulnerable to massive recoil damage. The sets above each serve a different purpose, with the first having a better Bewear matchup by taking Fluffy and getting massive defensive boosts to spam Body Press, and the second being an overall more solid defensive glue with utility Will-o-Wisp and ability to block Poltergeist. Very solid pick.

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Runerigus: 109-129 (34 - 40.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Crunch vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Colbur Berry Runerigus: 78-92 (24.3 - 28.7%) -- 99.1% chance to 4HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Crunch vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Runerigus: 156-184 (48.7 - 57.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Be mindful of the possibility of Crunch with itemless variants because it still deals a hefty amount of damage.

Neutralizing Gas Weezing is an interesting defensive check to Banded Tyrantrum that doesn't have Earthquake. If you switch in on a Head Smash, Rocky Helmet+Recoil is doing (56.666 - 63.86%) to Tyrantrum, if they opt to attack again, they are left at ~12%. If you have a free switch-in, you can Will-O-Wisp burn it, which will end up with double-down if they Head Smash, or smaller chip if they decide to Dragon Claw to avoid recoil.

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Weezing: 244-288 (73 - 86.2%) (40 - 47.2% recoil damage)
252+ Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Dragon Claw vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Weezing: 130-154 (38.9 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery

There's a new Fighting-type in town, Sirfetch'd!
After the recent bans, Sirfetch'd is ready to step into the limelight.
When submitting your check/counter, try to keep it to mons that are NU by usage (pokemon that have the NU label in the teambuilder on ps). PU mons are allowed but keep your submissions relevant to the NU metagame.

Mantine is a solid check to Sirfetch'd as it can come in on its Close Combat pretty well and easily, it also can tank a Choice Band-boosted First Impression and threatens Sirfetch'd with its coverage or a burn due to Scald lowering its wallbreaking potential for the rest of the game. Mantine also has Roost to recover any damage it took while checking this threatening Pokemon. However Mantine doesn't like to get its Heavy-Duty Boots
removed with Knock Off and Brave Bird still does a decent chunk of damage to it. But in overall Mantine is a great check to Sirfetch'd as it reliably tanks any of its attacks.

Our best fighting answer at the moment, Sylveon is one of the best defensive checks to The Duck Knight. With it's Fairy typing and access to recovery in Wish, it can consistently switch into Fetch'd while abusing CB variants into letting a Wish or Heal Bell go off for the team. The only thing to watch out for is P Jab, but you always survive from full and can KO it right back.

Cresselia is probably one of the only pokemon we have available at the moment that can take all of Sirfetch'd's attacks without being 2HKOed bar Choice Band Knock Off (which in theory shouldn't 2HKO as you are faster and can recover the first Knock Off damage off). In return you outspeed Sirfetch'd and 2HKO it with Moonblast 99.6% of the time (28 SpA EVs allow for a guaranteed 2HKO) or simply set up on it which is a bit greedy but w/e.

With lesser defenses than weezing but still a decent check, we have Garbodor. Although it is not viable to outspeed Jolly Sirf and it does not have viable recovery move, our C rank pokemon with rocky helmet + aftermath effectively punishes Sirfetch'D and his bulky is enough to not be a 2hko for the main bird stab, making it a possible revenge kill with Gunk Shot.

Vaporeon is a check to Salazzle, it can come in an check it at any given point when Salazzle is unboosted. Salazzle can't do much versus Vaporeon and Vaporeon is able to KO Salazzle due to its natural high special attack stat with its option in Scald. Salazzle does only 36,8% damage output at neutral with its best STAB in Sludge Wave. However, when Salazzle is boosted Vaporeon can only come in, when it is nearly healthy because a +2 Sludge Wave will do around 73% max roll leading to Vaporeon relying on being relatively healthy with checking Salazzle. But in overall Vaporeon can serve as a great check towards that lizard.

Careful Nature

Counter to the chosen set and probably one of the best checks to all the possible Salazzle sets. Its dual typing allows it to wall both of Salazzle's STAB attacks and it doesn't get any notable coverage move against it. Rock Blast is its best way of hitting Salazzle with the very much appreciated side effect of even bypassing the Substitute from other Salazzle sets. The last move can vary from what you prefere. Toxic cripples incomming walls like Gastrodon and Mudsdale, while Superpower hits Steel types and still deals good damage overall. Earthquake also hits steel types but has the benefit of giving you a move to use first vs Salazzle's Protect as the very uncommon Protect + Disable set would be able to Toxic stall mono Rock Blast Gigalith. It is also more reliable in hitting Salazzle. You do trade your ability to hit Bronzong so watch out for that.

:sm/flygon:
Flygon @ Lum Berry
Ability: Levitate
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Throat Chop

Flygon is a Check to Salazzle. Flygon resists Salazzle's dual stab. Fire blast and dragon pulse can be threatening on flygon trying to swtich in, but if you can get flygon is safely, it should be able to force salazzle out. A lum berry allows Flygon to be less concerned about a toxic, although it is still annoying. Even against the annoying subtox set, this pokemon can safely switch in to either pick up the KO or force it out. Flygon can use Salazzle to set up a dragon dance, thanks to the lum berry making Flygon less worried about being hit by a toxic. Earthquake immediately threatens Salazzle out, as this move will always OHKO, even if Flygon is burned. Dragon claw is here because of the presence of steel types in the tier as well as Sylveon, making it difficult to be able to lock into outrage. Dragon claw will 2HKO Salazzle, and it has a 31.3% chance to OHKO after a dragon dance. the last move on this set is throat chop, as it allows flygon to stop Sylveon from using hyper voice, although people running moonblast over hyper voice is something to look out for. It also helps with Bronzong, threatening a 3HKO when unboosted, or a 2HKO after a dragon dance. This is my personal favorite set, but scarf is also another very good set for beating salazzle.

Dragalge dual resists both of Lazzle's STAB's, and for non Toxic variants on HO, it has the ability to shrug off Dragon Pulse's. At the same time, it's one of the few safer switch ins to SubTox Lazzle because of it's newfound access to Flip Turn, able to come in and pivot out into a faster threat, such as Scarf Flygon. All in all, a fantastic check.

One thing I remember fondly about some of the older VotW picks was that there were sometimes added scenarios. Maybe it's raining, and the swift swimmer is a speedy speed boy. Maybe the victim already has a boost under their belt. If I can help it, I like to apply those things.

Anyway, since there's no attachment here, Diancie can stand as a counter against an unboosted Salazzle, but gets downgraded to a check if she used Nasty Plot beforehand. The special defense investment makes it so that she takes pretty poor damage from unboosted Sludge Wave, and can withstand even a crit +2 if Salazzle flexes her thoughts on Diancie's switch-in. The attack-hindering nature doesn't matter here, since Diamond Storm dispatches her in one hit, with the solid chance of boosting defense for the next challenger to deal with.

Xerche I think without recovery Flygon is a check; after switching into fire blast once it is probably in range of 2 fire blasts, not even to mention dragon pulse

edgequake is good (even tho u hit like a wet noodle), i prefer toxic to annoy gastrodon / mudsdale more but dual wingbeat is nice to have something to hit flygon and fighting types with. u can also run non-max speed if u REALLY want those extra 20-ish hp evs but imo might as well tie w other aero. if u run it alongside a good remover (dhelm, maybe mantine...?) u could experiment w an item other than boots, such as cb/lo, so u are less wimpy.

Check. In the current metagame, mostly Mantines distributes their evs in physical defense, but due to its huge natural bulk in SpD it still doesn't take even 3HKO for stabs of a Salazzle with smogonset w/o boosts. However, some variations like Knock Off (in addition to suffering 25% with rocks, generally teams that contain this pokemon use it as a hazard remover), Toxic, or even Nasty Plot can put Mantine in a complicated situation. With some supportive offensive checks on your team like Flygon or Tyrantrum, Mantine is not overloaded and can work more efficiently.

Hello guys
:ss/indeedee-f:
Indeedee-F (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Expanding Force
- Mystical Fire
- Dazzling Gleam
- Healing Wish

While this is pretty standard, this mon is able to switch in into Salazzle (Scarf isnt even a thing lol) and Rkill it, however it can't switch in two times in a row, so its only a temporal switch-in, so you probably need to bring it freely, she is a check that can act as a ''one-time counter'', but check after all, it can be also a cool offensive scarfer with Hwish support and Psychic Terrain for avoid prio too, it has cool coverage so thats another good point too.
